So...whats for dinner?

Michelle,
The package.... got it! Your husband just seems so young.... must mean it is ME that is getting older. No offense meant. You two will love the freedom!

I'm fine....
Eric -
Please stay safe Eric. Luv, hope the severe stuff passes you by. I'm out of the st. Louis area at the moment but not the storms track. So far though, no warnings or watches. Good.
Homemade pizza tonight at dsil and dbil's house. Tomorrow dsil and I are doing a pasta marathon again with the end goal being a new pappardelle dish called Italian drunken noodles. Oh boy! She also makes a mean blackberry pie. I have died and gone to heaven lol.
I would love to have a tattoo, but they are such a commitment . . . -
for those of you not on facebook who need to laugh.

-
no idea what is for dinner- I am focused on packing for camping....
-
ROFL! The total look of satisfaction is priceless. Clearly, he needs some face paint so he can investigate his inner characters.
I am tired of BBQ and salads! Feel sort of bloated and huge though the scale says I haven't actually gained weight. Tonight I am making a lentil-vegetable soup with chicken stock. I have green & lima beans, tomato, carrots, onions, and spinach. Husband is hoping that I will throw a bit of homemade pasta into the pot. We shall see.

Aw mom, I just wanted a beard.
-
Laurie, too funny! Thanks for sharing! Good thing it wasn't permanent Sharpie or that he didn't draw on walls or other places!
Have been craving panzanella....
Nancy, you're the kitchen hero! Homemade pizza? OMG! Just the thought if it makes me crazy!
Eric, be safe! Hoping you return safely before Sharon's surgery. So appreciate all your efforts for those who desperately need it. -
My goodness, Laurie, your son did a bang up job of painting himself!
No dinner tonight at our house. DH drove me to a 12:30 eye dr. apptment at my request. I can't see well enough to drive after my eyes are dilated. Afterwards we had a late heavy lunch.
Nancy, I love your remark about a tattoo being a commitment.
-
Ohhh! Keep these coming Laurie! I am not on Facebook.
I wish I could be at your dinner, Nancy! Please report in after eating

-
Omg Laurie, too funny and cute!
-
Laurie Laughing...also shared with DH and he is cracking up too.
Bobo instead of a tattoo, maybe you could borrow Laurie's sons marker. When my sister also got BC she wanted us to go get a tat together, but I do not like pain! I suppose I could get one on my fake boob, cause I have no feeling there.
decided on chuck steak with zucchini in crockpot with seasonings, roasted baby potatos and cucumber salad.
Storms so bad here today, it was reported that a tornado actually touched down. I got detoured coming home from work as trees were down along the lake.Very unusual for our area, they are sometimes just called micro bursts, but I guess it was reported that an actual funnel was seen.
-
Susan - he's 62 1/2 but definitely doesn't look it. And no offense taken

-
Laurie,
Thank you for posting the picture of your son... Going through a bit of a rough patch in the family department so felt really good to laugh and remember that those early year problems passed and so shall the late teen issues! I'm not on Facebook and sometimes feel like I'm missing out!
Wanted to thank you for sharing Debbie's Facebook updates... I think of her every day and really miss her! -
Laurie! Love the artist! LOL. My brother once tried cleaning a spray can top of black enamel paint. Yep got it all over face. My mom tried everything to get it off. Yep, bleach, Soap, brillo pads! Ouch. His face was black for a week, at least where it wasn't red from the scrubbing! LOL I am glad your don had the washable ones. If you tried the pads nowadays you'd end up reported to CPS! LOL
-
Ps, happy for you, luvrving.
((Deb))
Eric, stay safe. Bobo, get the tattoo artist to draw one in permanent marker to see if you could live with it! It will wear off after a while.
Tonight I went out with my sister. I ordered thr special. Pecan crusted scallops, on balsamic potatoes, with mango pear salad. Yum! The scallops could have been a bit bigger though, but still delish. My sister had my favorite, Voodoo chicken with brown rice, steamed veggies and grilled pineapple. Yum too. much love to all. -
Nancy, after some internet shopping I found some pasta attachments for my KitchenAid on Ebay at a fairly reasonable price. The roller and two cutters for $135. They're advertised as new, in the box. I've been reading reviews of the extruder attachment which makes macaroni and other shapes. Does anybody have that? Chabba what do you use?
Darn! Just lost several paragraphs of my post! Too much trouble to re-type it.
-
carole,
Of course I have the extruder! This was my present to myself for Christmas since no one seemed to know what to get me. I have used it once. Miraculously, it worked, but you have to use the Kitchenaid recipe only. Too stiff or too loose, and the thing doesn't work. I really debated getting an all-in-one-machine like the one at Sur La Table, but for me, space in the kitchen is at a premium.
I got my pasta roller/cutter attachment for $65 years ago at a discount kitchen supply store which is no longer in business. I had no idea what a good deal that was. I use this attachment ALL the time. I make pasta at least twice a month in smaller batches [300g of flour.] I have been told that I can use it when making crackers as well, but I haven't tried that since a rolling pin works pretty well.
The other attachment that I use a lot is the meat grinder, but that is probably a different post.

Wow Carole, good thinking. I should have thought about e bay as a place to look. Would love to have an extruder. My cutters are fettuccine and angel hair. I have to cut papperdelle by hand.
-
You guys are v impressive to me regarding extruders. Homemade macaroni. I cannot believe it.
All good advice regarding tattoos! I was just thinking, regarding Laurie's DS --- good thing he does not write words yet!!
Does he? I'd rather have him color on his face than spell POOP or something. My DS wrote that word a lot when learning how to do his letters... all on his own...
-
My DD used to scream "You're not my Mother! Help! Help!" as I dragged her out of the store if she didn't get what she wanted. Surprisingly, no one ever helped her
Regarding Bobo Help!!!: She is bullying me into giving her a recipe for vegan crock pot yogurt. She says that I have to test kitchen this first. I cannot do this as the thought makes me gag.
Please help, because she can be very fiesty if she doesn't get her way, as you all know. Ha ha Bobo, I warned you that I would do this. Please, for the sake of all that is Holy, someone help me!!!
*Susan* You can do this. So can some of you others. I know you. You're all smart. Please help as soon as possible!
-
I too am impressed with all you pasta making gals! I think I'll pass on any more kitchen equipment until I have more people to cook for....and a restored brain and energy to follow through with projects. But I too, would not have thought to check on ebay to make the cost less prohibitive. Great idea, Carole! I hope you get it and can use it before you head North....can't imagine your RV being coated in flour!

Bobo, of course little kids like your son are smartly just following the basic tenet of writing ( "write what you know")... and at that age it's all about bodily functions!
Pork chops were on sale yesterday, so I bought a bunch to cook in the crock pot to bring with us to NH on Friday. Am hoping (probably against hope!) that my allergies will take a break while we are up there. I'd like to gouge my eyes out today....even with the drops that are supposed to be helping. Haven't had this much of an allergic response in the spring for years. I should be happy I'm only dealing with allergies, and not anything like our fellow staters in OK. Whining over....
On a positive note, I have really been enjoying my strength and fitness program. My trainer is lovely....and as I learned yesterday.... a BC survivor herself....way too young! So she really "gets" it and is tailoring my "training" in very helpful ways. I can tell that my body is changing in terms of feeling stronger and more flexible. -
Laughing, Lacey! 'Write what you know' indeed. In that case, he would never write about washing his hands..
I must say: Bedo is absolutely right. I am bullying her into perfecting a soy yogurt recipe as they do in America's Test Kitchen. I do not have time to do it; I just want the recipe to work perfectly. She is right.
Lacey, I think I want a personal strength and fitness trainer just like yours! It is such a good idea!
-
carol, At home I've always used a hand crank Atlas pasta machine. I've used it about once a week for over 40 years. I also have an extruder attachment for my Cuisinart food processor that I got years ago with a coupon from a class action law suit. I have rarely used it. When I bought a Kitchenaid to give the Senior Center it came with a food grinder and a pasta roller, cutter. The power food grinder is a major improvement over mom's old hand crank! I can't decide which machine I prefer for rolling pasta.
-
My golf was rained out this morning and it was a nice rainy day. I caught up on ironing (Yes, I iron!) and then made another batch of hand-made orechiette (little ears) this afternoon. I can hear Bobo in the background shouting, "Get a life!"
Tonight's dinner will be oven-fried catfish with a spicy cornmeal breading, boiled potatoes and a salad of tomato, cucumber, and avocado. Butter and sour cream for the potatoes.
We'll have the orechiette tomorrow night.
Thinking about Eric, Debbie and Deb.
-
Boy I feel so far off the good food wagon tonight. It was that random what can I get my hands on kind of night.
-
jenjen same here...worked from 8:30 am till 8:30 pm and did not plan a dinner. Grabbed some frozen burgers out of freezer...defrost in microwave...cook, add one tomato (the only one left) and a dill pickle...and that was dinner.
I would also like a personal trainer, but "he" must come to the house...be young...handsome...and wear a speedo. Just dreaming!
-
I'm embarassed to even post after all your wonderful meals. Food looks good & sounds good, but tastes horrible. Also I'm sticking mostly to the BRAT diet. Went to the freezer planning to branch out a bit & grab a Stauffers Mac & Cheese, but the Creamed Chipped Beef was on top - so SOS was my dinner.
Hope you all don't mind if I keep drooling over your meals while I eat my bananas & applesauce.
Eric - hope all goes OK in OK. Debbie - thinking of you & Chuck & your Dad. Deb - hope you got enough accomplished before your daughter had to go home. Laurie - have fun camping. Hi everyone else.
-
Last nights pizza and blackberry pie were absolutely wonderful. Tonight the drunken Italian pappardelle noodles were excellent, now waiting on buttermilk cake with raspberries and cream for dessert. I may never leave here.
-
This has been an easy one....They ask us to not "talk" too much about what we do while we're there or if a new team is coming in to replace us. I agree with the reasons, so it makes that easy.
Like any hospital, we have a pharmacy...and they don't us telling the whole world where we're at...so we don't have some outside druggies come in to rob the place. The local townspeople, of course, know we're there, but they also know what we're doing for them and they have an interest in keeping us safe.
It normally takes a couple of hours to arrange for planes/flights and get us moving to the airport, plus the airport terminal time, plus flying time, plus another couple of hours of time to get a team into place. And that's after the decision that we're needed is made. Often that's too long...and the time deciding that we're needed can take 6 or 8 hours....so they are starting to move us even before the decisions about need are made....so if we are needed, we are already there..and if we're not needed we go home.
It's like calling the fire department for a small fire and then fighting it. If you get it out, great, they just go home. If you decide you can't get it out, they're already arriving.
This time they were able to handle it on their own, so we didn't have to do anything. All was not wasted. I got to take out some of the radio and computer gear and practice using it...so I can be faster next time. everyone else did the same thing with their stuff as well.
So, unless the tonados come back, I'll be heading home as soon as the flights can be arranged....It doesn't go as fast going home as heading in...so it will likely be tomorrow before I get final word about the when.
