Thanks Athena for the cat lesson! They really are outstanding animals, aren't they?
This video explains why making spending cuts is so difficult. The GOP wants to believe the government is awash with money and things will just be hunky dorry if they lop of X% off the budgets of various agencies (though today we heard of a mass shutting of Air Traffic Control towers - oh heck, let's those pilots pay for that, I guess). I'm absolutely positive, as a % of GDP, the United States pays far less in taxes than most civilized nations. Well, if they don't even know when they make a racist remark, I guess they wouldn't be able to figure this one out either?
NJ Republicans Want Cuts But Can't Name Any
Oh Jackie, were that the GOP would nominate Ron Paul for POTUS next time. Sure win for the Democrats. Sarah Palin, or him.

Big cats (and big dogs) - without paralell.
Anyone LOVE dolphins and whales? We need some seafaring pictures arounbd here.
We also need an OTTER.
-
I'm hooked on Downton Abbey! Mary looks just like my daughter! What do you think?

-
A VERY rare finding - a school of hammerhead sharks. They are believed to be mostly female and may be grouping in anticipation of mating season:

-
yikes! Now for something non threatening:
Dolphins feast on a shoal of sardines:

-
Here, the dolphins are joined by birds, who mark their prey with incredible speed and precision. They will also be joined by sharks. All predators work side by side and no one seems to bump into one another:

-
Ohhhh - to witness this in the flesh:

-
I see the resemblence Blue - startling!
-
Dolphin and calf. They are very attentive mothers. When calves are born, the first thing a mother must do is to push the calf up to the surface so that it can breathe:

-
The biggest animal of them all enjoys the sun:

This reminds me of how many animals love to do this.
Hyena bliss:

-
Athena, you have hit a nerve! Probably the greatest cause of my life is protecting dolphins and whales from human exploitation and murder.

-
Adorable!
-
-
I am fond of seals as well and in the picture above is a baby dolphin and seal who are friends.
-
Love in the water!
-
Jackie, that pic of the little seal is also just adorable! The lives of those precious babies are constantly on the line due to greedy brutal humans.

-
Dolphin wisdom!

-
I have been to the Amazon, seen pink sweet water dophins and spoken to natives who believe that dolphins were once human. They believe that dolphins have underground cities.
-
I'm with the Amazons, seriously!
-
I could get there as well. Here I go trying to trust my brain, but seems I heard a few years back that some very serious tests were done having to do with the intelligence of the dolphins. If I recall ( and it is often so hard to do that ) much mention came of the extraordinary love that was visibly displayed by the dolphins.
The majority of us are usually taught by others and then do a certain amt. of self teaching, but there are a lot of teachers on this planet....I think the dolphins easily could be among them. They could make 'learning' a true pleasure.

Athena, I've been away two days and just caught up. I have to travel to San Diego in April and will have an afternoon on my own. I think I'll have to go visit Orson.
-
ohhhh - juliaanna - please do - it would be great if you could take a pic. Have a nice trip, BTW!

Awake and watching the fire and the snow.
Loved the conversation about cheetahs and other big cats. I adore any kind of cat, but cheetahs are my special favorites in the big cat world, even though technically, because a cheetah purrs, it isn't considered a big cat. And loved the video of the cheetah. Also beautiful pictures of sea creatures. Remember a trip to a California beech where an entire pod of dolphins was playing in the water only a few yards from shore.

Humid day here today with relief coming in the form of a thunderstorm - loved it, now I won't need to water. Trouble with our climate is that we really do not have Autumn. I'm really looking forward to cooler weather.
Lazy day today - all I did was fold the washing and go out and buy a new electric jug - the old one was leaking. Too hot to do any housework.
Blue - glad you are enjoying Downton Abbey - I won't spoil it for you. Loved it!!
