    I get it now.  They don't understand why we call them racists because they don't even realize when they post racist perjoratives.  Or maybe they do and are just trying to get away with it.

    Harry Reid comes from a gun toting state.  I don't know how we ever solve the gun problem - other than with term limits.

    My friend sent me the link in the New Yorker to "Republican Prayers" in the Shouts and Murmers column. They are very funny. Here is one:

    Caucus Prayer

    The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

    He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

    He endorseth my talking points and gerrymandereth my electoral boundaries.

    He leadeth me in paths of wisdom and righteousness and pressureth me to sign pledges that ensure this righteousness.

    And woe be unto him that welcheth on his pledge

    For not only shall he be cast into the wilderness,

    But he shall findeth himself opposed by a well-financed challenger

    In the subsequent primary.

    Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death;

    And scale the mountain of debt;

    And tiptoe to the precipice of fiscal cataclysm—I will fear no evil:

    For thou art with us,

    And more importantly,

    Leverage is leverage;

    Am I right?

    Amen.

    Some people are small and petty no matter what. Not even an important discussion can move them to see outside of themselves. As a result, they look like utter fools.

    We finished watching Mad Men last - now what are we going to do. Looks like you girls are getting a new series in April - we will have to wait until late this year to get our hands on it. Bummer dude!!!

    We do however still have some of the Office to watch, so that will keep me amused. I must check if I can get Newsroom from Amazon.

    Busy week at work as usual. Going to the markets tomorrow at their other location - need some magic pain cream. Otherwise hopefully I will have a lazy weekend. Doing the washing as I speak so I can rest tomorrow after the shopping.

    Got to thinking about what you said Athena and found the above pictures which have the same theme.  I'm always amazed that anyone might think ignoring facts will nullify them

    Its a great tgif day.  I worked Sunday so it has been a long week for me.  Looking forward to sleeping in which usually doesn't happen, but the thought right now induces pleasurable scenarios so I'll just go right ahead.

    Hope things are well with everyone.  See you after work.

    YORKIE - YORKIE - YORKIE - congrats on stopping Effexor and PLEASE, PUHLEEEEEEZE, be sure to wean is the correct word very, very slowly with a doctor's supervision.  That can be one nasty drug to get off of.....be gentle with yourself in the process.

    Yorkie = good your docs are on top of this.  Really is a s-l-o-w process getting off Effexor.  Slower even than some of the SSRI's - hope it's easy for you.

    I hate drugs, medications, whatever.  It so often seems like the cure is worse than the disease!

    During chemo, I felt like 90% of the medications I took were to counteract the affect of the other 10%.

    I was very lucky that I didn't have to do chemo.  Tamoxifen came close to killing me, I believe that chemo probably would have.  I've always been super sensitive to drugs, so have avoided them whenever possible.  I'm taking femara, and it's hard, but at least I'm not having an allergic reaction to it.

    I've been on the very lowest dose of Effexor. I missed my first dose yesterday and didn't notice any reaction. I was worried about going off but DH really wanted me to and I agreed that it is for the best. I was very, very anxious for several months after my dx and Effexor really helped. But I'm a year and a half out so I think it is time. I have very few SEs from Aromasin, and those are minor. The only other prescription I take is  a very low dose of Simvastatin.

    On Sunday, during an appearance on Meet The Press, Colin Powell condemned the GOP’s “dark vein of intolerance” and the party’s repeated use of racial code words to oppose President Obama and rally white conservative voters.

    Without mentioning names, Powell singled out former Mitt Romney surrogate and New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu for calling Obama “lazy” and Sarah Palin, who, Powell charged, used slavery-era terms to describe Obama:

    POWELL: There’s also a dark — a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party. What do I mean by that? I mean by that that they still sort of look down on minorities. How can I evidence that?

    When I see a former governor say that the President is “shuckin’ and jivin’,” that’s racial era slave term. When I see another former governor after the president’s first debate where he didn’t do very well, says that the president was lazy. He didn’t say he was slow. He was tired. He didn’t do well. He said he was lazy. Now, it may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African Americans, the second word is shiftless and then there’s a third word that goes along with that. The birther, the whole birther movement. Why do senior Republican leaders tolerate this kind of discussion within the party?

    Ok - back to Chickadees!

    Doubtful I can get a baby bird pic. I put the little house just out of reach in a little tree. I see mama going in and out. She's prepping the nest.

    Mama comes to the feeder but is quick as lightening. I finally got a lesser goldfinch pair back in my yard. This drought has really diminished the variety of birds through our area. Fewer berries, flowers, bugs to eat. We are promised another dry summer. So sad. For now we've had some downpours so we aren't as dry yet. I'll have to dig up some of my fav backyard pics from the wetter years.

    Kam - it's very difficult for people to see, let alone own, their prejudices.  I have tripped over a couple of mine in the past, but I'm certain that there are others lurking about waiting to nab me again.  This is just my opinion, mind you, but when people work at over-coming their prejudices then they find that yes, they really do have some.  When they stick their figurative fingers in their ears singing over and over that they don't have any - well, then maybe they really don't, but it's far more likely that they do, and simply can't (or won't) face them.

    GG - I agree - we do all have prejudices and constantly need to work on them.  It's hard to avoid, whether influenced by parents, environment we grew up in, etc....  I think racism is one step downward, though.  It is the outward exhibition of hate toward a less powerful group of people.  I posted here as they always have an answer, don't they, excusing themselves or ignoring the messenger.

    GG - is that where all of our rain went this year?  If you got south of Roseburg, you might find a more favorable climate, though today it is BRRRRR cold and breezy today.  We'd have snow flurries if we had any precip.

    One of the most bizarre and stupid prejudices to me is that against same sex marriage. Why on earth would someone even care who a stranger marries?

    Today's news mentioned very few Monarch butterfly sitings so far. They depend on Milkweed which is fading due to the harsh drought. It often grows up in corn/soy crops along the migration route and those have been badly damaged in recent years.

    I put my hummer feeders up only to be foiled by bees. They don't seem lessened right now.

    Dang - I hate to get into the definition of racism, because I don't honestly agree with the definition as only toward a less powerful group.  I believe that racism is hatred towards anyone who doesn't look like you simply because they don't look like you - whether they are less powerful or more powerful or equally powerful.  So....  for me (and I know that my definition isn't textbook) racism is another "flavor" of prejudice.  Whether a person is hated because their skin is a different color, or their sexuality is directed to a different gender, or if they speak a different language, or follow a different religion doesn't make the hatred any less, nor make the person any less dead if the hatred is taken to the end.

    It's cold here today, too.  In fact it was snowing this morning.  I looked at the weather though, and it looks like we have fair weather and a warming trend coming - which will be MUCH appreciated (at least by this Washingtonian!)
