I feel like I could do it easier maybe if I had a DH or significant other or someone who could rent the car when we get there, drive it etc. Make all the decisions and just let me go along for the ride. But I'm going with my 22 yr old daughter who depends on me for all that. And she can't rent a car at her age without an exorbitant cost...not that I'd feel comfortable with her driving anyway! Oh well..further I get away from chemo..maybe this Ritalin will do me some good and I'll make it work!

Got a flight on Southwest..non stop to Orlando from Htfd Ct. 200 each round trip. Leaving on a Monday, returning the following Thursday. I was pleased with the cost. I'd almost be excited about it if I thought I even had the energy to pack! :)

Jill, that picture is cool.  So beautiful.  Judy, yes, go with your bald head. No one will care, and it will be wonderful.  I love Hawaii.  It is so perfect.  Enjoy

Remember those white bathing caps with a flower( a latex flower) on the side?  Now that is a not missed item.

I don't know where they put their junk in Ca, but I can tell you its not in the alley.  My last garden had a painted wheelbarrow, about a half dozen painted chairs, the wringer washer, turtle pond.  Miss it!

So, the guy behind me is being evicted.  Not to be selfiishly mean, but I am hoping he leaves some stuff behind.  He is definitely a hoarder, he's got stuff everywhere.  I could get lucky  :)  I like old furniture in a garden.  Ii think it gives it character .

High tide, I love chocolate too.

Soleil, I have a friend who is a nationally-known professional puppeteer. She makes amazing things, often using found objects. She often trolled through alleys in the best D.C. neighborhoods early on trash days, salvaged all sorts of stuff that people had junked, and used what she found to furnish her home and garden as well as to make puppets, props, sets and costumes. Tip: check out curbs and alleys around colleges and universities at the end of the school year. Many kids will throw stuff out rather than shlep it home!

    Solely,

Do you have bulk pick up days where you live? In Northern CA, there are usually one or two times a year when you can put out large items, like furniture, with the trash. That's when the pickings are good! I don't have much talent for fixing up that stuff but when my dd's were small, they loved to look out the window on bulk pick up days and watch people load up the discards. When I sold my "big" house, I had a large garage sale. I left whatever didn't sell in the driveway and put a notice on Craig's list saying that it was all free. By 9:00 that night, there wasn't a thing left!

Soleil, one more thing: many areas have an online organization called "Freecycle." Check it out!

I could see the pic, thank you, Jill! It is cute too. I wouldn't mind something like that. It came from head coverings.com? I will check that out immediately. Yes, I was remembering those dreadful old rubber affairs with the chin strap, no less. UGH!

I have a great black swim cap and I think I did get it on head coverings.com. It's stylish and easy to put on. Since I spend a lot of time at the beach, I knew I needed something. Definitely, definitely do the snorkeling .... You don't want to miss it. I hope all of you traveling gals have the energy to make your trips wonderful. Jill, That's a great round trip price for airline tickets.

I had a busy day with grandchildren today and loved every minute but I'm exhausted. The two boys are spending the night so lots of fun yet to come!

Soleil, Tina is so right ... You should definitely try Freecycle.com. You can join a group that is local so type in your town when you're looking. You can get all kinds of free stuff plus give away stuff you don't need. I get a daily update from mine but you can set it up where you get the emails as offers are being made. You just email the offerer and if they choose you, they'll tell you where they live and you just go pick it up. It's awesome and so much better than just taking stuff to a landfill. I use it all the time.

It's actually headcovers.com. It's the turban one. I actually wear it to the side cause it's less tight that way. Because it has gathers it's not so tight to the head so it gives the illusion you might have hair underneath.

It's sunny and warm today, so I just spent a satisfying hour weeding and cutting down stalks of dead sedum and such that I had left in the garden for "winter interest."  It was tough on my back, but I moved carefully, sat on a wooden box, knelt on a padded kneeler, and--slow learner that I am--managed to make myself quit while I was ahead!

Thanks for the tips.  Glenna, I will check that out.  We had that in Wisconsin.  They probably do have that here.

Today, I rode my bike to the ferry, went over to the tourist island and had this amazing thing called a Balboa Bar.  Its chocolate ice cream dipped in chocolate and then dipped in English Toffee.  Not sure, but I may have eaten more calories than I used biking.

I keep thinking that if I drink in all the colors of the ocean and the flowers and the sky, it will keep me moving longer  :)

My stupid markers are up, so I'm using psychological warfare on them.

Its helping that is sunny and 70 degrees too .

For those of you going to theme parks ... Many of them will give you a fast lane pass if you go to guest services and tell them of your cancer .... It is free and for your entire party. They believe you .... No doctor's note required, although I had my port ID card ready to show them if they asked for any kind of proof. You don't have to wait in long lines. I have gotten them at Hershey park, Busch gardens, and sea world. When I went to Disney I didn't know to ask but imagine they have something similar. You can check the website or just ask at guest services. It really helps those of us with low energy levels and hey, there aren't many perks that come along with stage IV cancer!

I've been feeling exhausted all week.

My older son had a dress rehearsal tonight for performance on Thursday.

I took myself for a facial, Manicure and pedicure. I then wore my pretty floral dress and my bright apricot heels to the performance.

I felt a million dollars and had FUN too

My post keeps disappearing before I finish it  So, if 3 posts show up here, sorry!  But MaryWh, I love Key West.  Love to just sit and drink my morning coffee at the southernmost point, watching the pelicans and the ocean.  Dork!

But I do.  I also enjoy the sunset celebration, the music, the shops.  Its another bicycle place, you can rent a cruiser and go all over the place.   Of course, being a fan of Hemmingway, I loved his house too.  And the food!

Jill, I am so glad you are going to Florida, the sunshine will do the world for you, I am sure.

Tina, I looked up the Bonne House, very cool.

    And hurray for you Faith!

So, last night, I took my grandaughter to see Oz.  It was exciting!  Beautiful colors and scenery too

Hightide, do you have Dollar Generals where you live?  They sell cookies that are just like Thin Mints, only much cheaper.  They are a weakness of mine!  We have a Kansas connection!  Cool!  I think Wamego and Hutch have a little less wind and a bit more humidity that we do here in Ashland.  It's been so horribly HOT the past few years.  If I don't ride at 6am it's not getting done after work!  Except, of course, for Monday nights when I barrel race!

I have yet to build my cold frame.  I salvaged some glass cupboard doors from a house due to be torn down.  I think I can use them as the back side - making it more of a mini greenhouse than a cold frame.  Or, I could make two cold frames.  Decisions decisions.  Hubby and I are volunteer firemen.  He bought me the cutest garden spray nozzle, it's just like a fire nozzle!  It's even red.  I love it.  I've planted my carrots, spinach, lettuce, radishes, and my oats - I cut oat grass for my horse, he loves it!  The 17th I'll plant potatoes and when it warms up enough I'll plant yellow squash, zucchini, tomatoes and peppers.

Two of the people that were supposed to go ziplining with me this spring have injured themselves!  Crud!  Guess I'll have to wait for them to heal up.

Thin mint knockoffs! We do have Dollar Generals-and freezer space.

You have more wind? Good grief. My sister does not notice that everything leans as a result of the relentless winds. They drive me crazy.

When she visits me she complains that GA is like being dropped in the bottom of a salad bowl. She gets claustrophobic with our trees.

I think the prairies are beautiful but your climate is from hell.

Your garden sounds fabulous and delicious.

I have dogwoods and azaleas getting ready to bloom. Then there will be rhododendron and hydrandeas, spirea, Rose of Sharon, gardenias, daisies and daylillies. We have blueberries but the raccoons feast on those.

Ziplining and barrel racing! I live vicariously but for those I am definitely in the audience.

What I used to do for fun was kayaking.

Now I replay great memories while I sit in the sunshine like an old cat.

I love hearing about trips, bike rides, Balboa bars, etc. Anyone participating in these discussions has a day full of challenges to meet but I am inspired by the 'pack it up and lets go' attitude.

Hightide, I think you summed up our climate perfectily LOL!  I lived in VA for about 5 years when I was young.  I miss all the green!  You've got most of the plants/trees I grew up with.  I'm with you sister though - I feel claustrophobic when I'm closed in by trees for too long.  I've been kayaking a couple times.  I love it!  I'd like to get me a kayak for fishing on a small local lake (read that as large pond LOL).  Hubby isn't too keen on the idea.  He can fish from the bank *smirk*

High tide, I love kayaking, too. Still have my kayak though I haven't had the energy to do much the last couple of years. Breathing is a problem for me when I exert myself. I would take my camera and was able to get pretty close to blue herons for pictures. I loved ocean kayaking, too! Always fun to ride the waves in. When my little wire fox terrier was living, I would take her if I was going for a short trip. She loved it, too!

A favorite memory I have is the first time my family tried sea kayaking. My sons and DH tried and spilled constantly. It was hysterical to watch-way too many chiefs.

When my daughter and I dragged the kayak out thru the surf we got a lot of 'flack' and laughter from the testostreone group.

We were naturals. Our weight was balanced and my DD called cadence and off we went. We made it a point to turn and go back and forth several times in front of the guys.

Serving humble pie for dinner was fun.

When we lived in Houston we kayaked down by Galveston on the bayous. What a great way to see birds. You could pretend you were in Africa. The vegetation was so lush.

Glenna, is yours a two-man? You need to have someone do the hard part and take you and your camera back out. I have never seen a blue heron. They must be beautiful.

A fox terrier as first-mate sounds fun.

I love kayaking too.  I'm going to go soon.  There is no reason one cannot kayak , is there?  I read Chele's posts and always want to do more.  Maybe its all the chocolate, I should add that to my breakfast, I think.  I want to go kayaking with my daughter next week.  There's an inlet on the ocean filled with adorable jelly fish( yes, I know jelly fish can be biters but I just want to kayak out there and see them  :)  I started bugging my daughter about this already...hoping to get her on board.

I'm thinking of expanding my garden.   Space is small here and everything is in container.  Tomatoes are getting big but the cucumbers look like they are sickly, like  on chemo  :)  Very small and spindly.

I'm going out there in a few minutes, actually to move a few things around.   Hoping to get those cucumbers to grow.  I bought some that are supposed to look and taste like lemons.  All they have to do is grow  :)

I have a small patio garden too. I do have some deep planter boxes for my tomatoes and peppers but my Meyer Lemon tree is in a large pot. Lemon cucumbers do indeed look like lemons and have a slight lemon flavor but the ones I once grew had too many seeds. It's much cooler in northern CA, so I won't even put my veggies in until the end of this month or early April. Have fun.
