I am not an outdoor gardener. Dh would probably cut everything downwith the lawnmower and weed eater anyway. He is a maniac when it comes to his grass.lol. He would think Everything is a weed and away it would go. Do love my indoor plants though. Finally got all my plans for Fla. made. I was really afraid we wernt going to find a place to stay, but finally found a hotel today. We got the last 2 rooms and its within walking distance of my sisters place, so thats a good thing. We may only be able to do a day trip to the keys though, it is just so booked down there next week, we couldnt find any place to rent down there anywhere. Oh well I am still really excited. I just hate trying to make last minute plans. Just need to find a rental car now!

If you talk your daughter into going, take a camera. Will 'adorable' jellyfish show up on film? They completely freak me out.

I hope you are able to go!

I read Chele's posts and I sit back tired as if I had done something.

My college friends are trying to plan a train trip. We are too old and infirm for driving and flying sucks.

Has anyone taken a train trip within the last few years?

Hightide, where are you thinking of going on your train trip? Will you sleep onboard? When I was a kid and saw ads for those glass-roofed cars winding through Rockies, I thought that would be the height of cool. Still do. We take the train from D.C. to New York quite often, but that's just several hours. And there are no glass observation cars. Not to mention no Rockies!

    Tina,

We have classmates in WA, CA and TX. Most of us are in the metro Atlanta area. We are looking at a connection point or a destination that will entice. Sleeping overnight is fine and sounds fun!

We would love to do the Canadian Rockies trip and Alaska Railways offers those domes but those get pricey and only our classmate who lives in WA could get there easily.

DC to NYC sounds fun and so does DC as a destination.

Today was infusion day so I will have a steroid night to do research.

Sleeping cars, dining cars, comfortable seats and the ability to get up and walk and stretch sounds good.

Were you comfortable during the trip?

Hightide, the train to and from NYC is always comfortable unless the power goes out, which has happened to us on occasion, in which case it can get stuffy and hot or very cold. The seats provide much more legroom than those in the coach sections of planes and each has a reading light overhead. The cars are kept clean and neat. Restrooms are palacial compared to those on planes, but may get grotty during a long trip particularly---sorry, guys--if men have been using the facilities during the trip and missing the target. The food in the cafe cars is nothing to write home about, so many people bring their own lunches and snack aboard.

DC would be a super place for you and your friends to visit--hotels can be pricey, but many of the countless things to see and do are free!

Hightide, I think we are going tomorrow.  I'm excited.  Its only about a half hour from here, hoping the sun will be out!

Marywh, It will be great to be in the Florida Sunshine, regardless of you spend time in Keys or not.  So, I think this trip will be awsome for you.

Caryn, the containers aren't exactly my sprawl in the midwest but they are fun.  I may order some container growing corn seeds.  I'm trying not to overspend but it looks so amazing.  Have you ever grown that?

I hope the weather was in your favor. I am really envious.

    Tina

Train trip got vetoed. Looks like we do Calloway or a mountain lodge. Healthy people are just too busy to see the fun sometimes. DH and I are keeping it on the radar. I love DC.

I think this thread should inspire all the panicked souls on some of the other threads. There is still so much to be enjoyed...not easy...but we do know how to wring out something between sunrise and sunset. Even if I can't barrel race or snowboard, I get pleasure from cheerleading.

You are the most amazing women and this is where I come when the disease and the drugs are kicking my ass.

Definitely examples for children! Fear is not in charge. Were we all a little crazy anyway when we were healthy? Played in the dirt, climbed trees, treasured sunsets over oceans, loved packing and planning?

Today was a milkshake with my daughter and a new purse. Doesn't take much to have fun.

I wish everyone something that feels good this weekend.

Next Sat. DH and I are meeting my son and his partner in Hawaii for a week. Going to Honolulu. It's going to be crowded due to Spring Break. But I don't care, will just be nice to get away, and be with my family. Looking forward to a few umbrella drinks while looking out at the ocean. Takes five hours from L.A. to get there. The Pacific is one HUGE ocean! Hope I don't feel to haggard. Going to take the Ritalin along and hope for the best!

Enjoy Hawaii! I lived at a Holiday Inn near the HNL airport for 6 weeks many, many years ago while doing my flight attendant training for Pan Am. Haven't been back to Oahu since but have been to Maui several times. I love the soft tropical breeze at night and the smell of plumeria!

My kayak is a single .... Wish it were a double, as I could get DH to do all the hard work. I think I will try this spring to just putter around Assateague where there is no strong current! Don't want to get carried out to sea, though that might be preferable to chemo .... LOL! If I can find a picture of me and my little angel, I will post it. It's been 3 years and I still miss her. Had her for 13 years. I went to Hawaii many, many years ago and loved it. I remember driving around the island and the scenery was so beautiful. I also did the train up to Denali and that was way cool. The train cars are owned by the cruise lines and they are quite luxurious with leather seats and all open glass. I would do that again in a heartbeat. Lived in key west as a kid when my dad was in the navy. We kids had the run of the island. I remember chasing the conch trains and selling coconuts to the tourists. What a carefree life! What I'd give for a little of that right now!!

I live only about 40 minutes from the coast, Santa Cruz/Capitola area. I am ashamed to say that I don't go there nearly as often as I should. My younger dd needed a new wetsuit so we drove down to O'Neill to get one. It was a glorious day and after shopping we went to Gayle's, one of my favorite places to eat. Then we went to Capitola and just stared at the water and enjoyed the warm sun. I also went to my schools fundraising gala and it was nice to see that both the parents and staff clean up so well. One of my fellow teachers had a pre-party at her house which made the evening even nicer. Also, went to Costco, which was exhausting!

Signed up for a hike that goes through brooks and over streams.  They said shoes will get wet  :)  Its a 2 hour hike and then we have lunch outside on this hill.  Very excited for this.

I'm still doing my hiking daily but its alot more fun to do this in a social situation and the ocean is wonderful but forests and brooks and streams sound pretty cool too!

Kathy, that sounds wonderful. I just love how you appreciate things. Do you have binoculars so you can watch for cool birds and critters?

With my hip and back issues, hiking is out of the question right now. I can't move very fluidly, so I wind up in pain and rocking side to side after walking about a block or two and going absurdly slowly, but I'm working on it with meds and PT! Soon I'll be "hiking" through the streets of Rome!

Photo is loadingMy grandaughter would only take one kayak picture.  What can I say she's 14?  So, this is me kayaking.  Due to wind my hair is a mess but good news is that I have hair  :) We had a wonderful time, the sun came out and the water was sparkly.  No little jelly fish, though.  Guy says they come out in June.  Guess I'll go back there then

Love the photo! It looks like a beautiful day for kayaking.

I made bread pudding for DD and SIL. Evening got cold and rainy with storms and hail. Tornado sirens and oven timer going off at the same time. I am too old for this kind of excitement.

Glenna, your comment about floating out to sea as opposed to dealing with chemo was funny. Instead of flares just pack crackers, pate and a really good cabernet? I know what you are saying about your little terrier. We had a schnauzer. Typical terrier-he was a lunatic but such a loyal, loving buddy.

Wish I had the energy for a puppy. Someone needs to start a rent-a-dog business.

High tide, You'd have to pack some chocolate brownies too  :)

But for staying home bread pudding sounds comfy.  Do you have a fireplace?  I am just imagining you sitting in front of the fire with your bread pudding and a delicious hot drink

Stagefree, you are the one who got me hooked on wordament! In case anyone is wondering why I'm not on BCO much anymore, it's because of wordament. It is absolutely addicting. Something else I'm doing that some of you might not see as fun .... a friend is out of town for the month and she has complained for years and years about the wallpaper in her bathroom. Since I have the key and am watering her plants, I decided to strip the wallpaper and put a primer coat of paint on the walls. I've got about one more hour on the wallpaper (can only do so much at a time) and then will sand and paint the walls. She will be so surprised when she comes home. She has had BC also but not stage IV. Sometimes she takes me to chemo. Anyway, I like seeing the transformation of a room and knowing that I did it. Feelings of accomplishment are FUN! But yeah, I'm hurting tonight!! LOL!

    Stagefree,

You have Charlize Theron's haircut. Now if you could just get her to give you the dress she wore at the Academy Awards.

    Soleil,

I do have a fireplace but the last time I got down on hands & knees to open the damper, I couldn't get back up. DH got down with me to check that the damper was open & then he got stuck. We had to crawl over to the coffee table...we agreed we weren't going to tell our kids. I do make my hot chocolate from scratch. Wish you lived close enough to drop in.

    Glenna,

    Wow!

I hope all of our travelers will be blessed with great weather and I hope the same for our gardeners. I miss gardening but as long as I can get into my kitchen and bake I will be a happy camper.

How do you play wordament? Is this like Words With Friends?
