Good morning, Loungettes! Had a wonderful massage last night, slept like a log, but wish I could have slept longer. Hopefully today will be crisis ad emergency admission free, I've got a lot to catch up on from earlier in the week. Such is the life of a Hospice Nurse.
Goldie--Your DH's BP may be high because of the coughing, Get that under control and then give the new BP med a few days to work before giving up on it. Hmmm, I never thought about planting in intervals. Gonna have to think about that one for my plan this year. I love being able to freeze stuff for the winter!
Cammy--Of course I'm in on the conspiracy to keep the crazy side of Maine, I don't want to share it with anyone! We didn't look for the Pet Semetary. His book of short stories (Night Shift) is mostly set on the University of Maine at Orono campus where I went to school for 2 years. THAT one was very freaky to reat! Sitting vigil with families can be hard, but that's where I can make the most difference, so it's worth it. Why are you feeling shaky inside? Feeling shaky can definitely make you crabby.
ORLA--Glad you’re feeling better. And Maine is SPECIAL and UNIQUE, not weird! I resemble that remark!
Wahine--King did get hit by a car years ago. He was walking and reading, got hit by a car driven by an older man who was distracted by his little doggie in his lap. King got a broken femur-the big bone in the upper leg, and a head injury. It did take awhile for him to recover, he was in the hospital for some time, then did rehab at home. He did recovery completely, and even wrote the event into one of his books, one of a series of books whose title escapes me just at the moment. He and his wife Tabitha both have a talent for writing. And don't feel badly for me when I lose a patient, I know I'm going to lose them eventually, and I'm pleased when I can make sure it's peaceful and pain free.
CynCyn--the jewelry is beautiful! Thanks for sharing, it's a wonderful memorial to Lynda.
Cammy--it's annoying when the computer freezes up. Have you tried shutting it down and rebooting? I find that this fixes a multitude of problems! The shawl sound really fun! Would love to see a pic!
Mema--I'm sad you didn't get to meet Lynda. I'm sure she was looking forward to it, too. I think King's earlier books are his best, more suspenseful and less gory. His later stories tend to be more gory and gross than frightening. But that's just my opinion. Here's hoping your back gets better quickliest!
DorKable--thanks for the pretties!
Princess Glitter Sizzle's DOTD is The Scary Story
¾ oz 90 proof Rum
1 ½ oz Gold Rum
¾ oz Light or White Rum
¾ oz pineapple juice
3 tablespoons lime juice
1 tsp super fine sugar
1 tablespoon 151 proof Rum
Mix al the ingredients except the 151 rum in a shaker with cracked ice. Shake ‘til cold and pour it all into a tall (hopefully Halloween appropriate) glass or mug. Float the 151 rum on top by softly pouring it over the back of a spoon slightly above the drink. Dust the drink with powdered sugar and turn on a zombie movie.

Kathy I hope those pretty little peepers are doing mucho better today. How about your DH. Mine still isn’t better either, and now having pain in his neck and down his arm. He is going to call the doctor this ayem, so might not be going to the movies today.
Cyn, thanks so much for sharing the jewelry. She was such a talented lady, with painting, beading, raku and she was quite the photographer too.
Happy fart day to you too Dorky.
Cami, my husband has been on prolly a dozen different BP meds. I wish he would just lay off the salt for a week, just to see if that helps. For example, last night at dinner, he almost a whole box of stove top stuffing, that alone was like 2500 mg of sodium, not to mention what all else he had for the day. Yes we have a BP machine at home. So sweet of your friend to send you and Joey gifts.
Hey SuziQ, good to see your pretty lil face. I sawry bout you back girl, I hope it’s feeling better this morning. Meese tinks it’s doze damn bone mets?
“Such is the life of a hospice nurse” but you are the best of the best, the Crème de la Crème. They are fortunate to have you, the patient and the families. I’m glad they have you too. DH’s BP was high before the cough. He has been on BP meds for years. 135/103, 158/107 135/95 149/93, those are just some of his readings, over the last couple of days.
Happy Valentines Day to the best group of friends a goil can hab! I love each and every one of you, you are all so very special to me. Thank you for being my friends.
A Valentine Cocktail:
Bailey’s Cool Raspberry

Sorry, but gonna blow up the page with some of Lynda's art work.

WOW.....those are so beautiful, Lori. And ALL those paintings stacked up in her kitchen for a "group photo" (lol)....and the girls (people are so hard to do!). I love the one with the bird of paradise in it too, as that is my fav flower. I have some pics of different paintings on this puter, so will try to share them later. What a talented artist, and I am so glad her family has those beautiful paintings, etc., as additional memories of her. Thanks for all the valentine goodies, esp the last one ...
Dorkie, Such nice Valentines....mucho tanx and same back atcha!
NM, Hmmmm.....annudder dwink...and nice way to honor Steven King...amazing mind that guy has! Can imagine how eerie it was to read the story that took place at the school you went to...yikes!! I don't think I have seen Pet Semetary yet. So GLAD you love your job and do not feel too sad when you lose someone, because, like you said, you know they are going to pass soon, and you are there to make them more comfortable, and help the family too, so it is the best it can be. (((((NM)))))
Cami, Good idea from NM, as sometimes rebooting can take care of a myriad of puter probs. Another thing to do if you REALLY have probs, is unplug it for a few min. Several times my puter locked up and I thought it had crashed for good, and my DD reminded me to turn it off, unplug it for a few min, then try again. And *voila* it worked perfectly! Of course sometimes it crashes for good and nuttin kin help it.
Sue, Is your back better today? You are always on the go, and doing so much, and all that walking, that I forget you even have ANY pains! Are you on that walk right now? MIght be, as its still early. Hope a lot of money/awareness is raised!!! You go, girlfriend!
Lori, that IS high b/p since he is ON b/p meds. Mine have been high like that lately...seems to be right on the cusp of needing meds, but so far my dr doesn't think I need any. Its my top number that gets too high. Good thing NM said that coughing like he has been doing can make it higher, and MAYBE those new meds might work, once he is well. Glad he is going back to the dr...that is WAY too much sodium....does the dr know how much he ingests? Any way you can (on the sly) tell his nurse or dr before he sees him? Maybe a lecture from his dr might scare him??? Once I found out how bad too much sodium is, I took it off the table. BUT they do say we get more from the foods we eat (processed) rather than adding it at the table. And with that dressing he had...yikes....thats a ton of salt. My DH seems better today, but it has been on/off every other day, with his cold. Today is FINALLY sunny, so a good day to walk around town and explore the bavarian shoppes. Of course, he already wants to go back tonight to that good restaurant we found last night. Thank God it was excellent, as there isn't much open during the week, which we found out last night!!! Season prolly starts in May or so...we sure want to come back when its warm, as there are rivers and wide streams everywhere, and lots of water sport companies.
OK, I'll add my HAPPY VALENTINE WISHES to ALL YOU LOVELY LADIES!!!!
(read this as to "ALL" my breast friends....
And since we are in a Bavarian town, a Valentine wish in German....
-
HAPPY VALENTIES DAY MY BEAUTIES!!
NM - I read those books of his where he waas a 'character' who was hit by a car...chit...I can't member the name either. I've read almost all. Last series was the Dark Tower I think was the name. Don't think I finished the last one tho. I kno you are comforted for the most time when you lose a pt cuz you kno you did the best for them and their passage to the next journey...it still saddens me and I truely admire people who devote their lives to care for others in that way. MUAH!!
Lori - I like the advice of NM...didn't kno that about coughing. But again, now bp meds hard to regulate, so good he going to dr again. Where did you find all those pics that Lynda did? They are sooo sooo beautiful...thank you for sharing too. And oooo your Valentines and dwinks yum yum. You are right about my back. It feels a tad better today, but still gonna do that walk. :-)
Cami - Back pain is a constant with me, but worse if I over do or get too tired. That's when I am prone to take a pain killer or dwink lots n lots...heehee. But usually I can get by with a couple of ibupro's. But don't want to take them daily cuz I am on coumadin and I drink. Don't want no GI bleed. Don't worries about me girlfriend...I'm doing fine...go go go cuz I want to and rest rest rest when I need to.
-
Dorfy - Thank you fer da Valentine....hope you on your way now for your weekend of R & R. Of course...lot's a dwinks too!
Kathy - Thank you too fer da Valentine. So glad it sunny there today, mayb get Glenn out for awhile. The whole place sounds soooo wonderful!
Love you goils sooo much!!

Good Morning Loungettes!
Happy Thirst dey to one and all!!
Hope everyone has a splendid one or two or three..or however many you desire.
Steven King is my fav author and I have read that book Kathy..its one of my favorites . There are a few in recent years that I havent read but all the oldies I have. He did do an awesome job with 11/22/63..so much so that I would love to re read it. His son who writes under the penn name Joe Hill is also supposed to be a terrific writer. Tried Tabitha but couldnt get into her much.
No worries NM ...I wont let any secrets out on the Maine crazies..
Back to work ...no rest for the weary
-
AND...a very Happy Valentines day to everyone !!
Love the photo's of Lyndas paintings Lori..beautiful. She sure was talented.
-
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY ALL MY SPECIAL LADIES.
Lori Those pics from Lynda are amazing she had so much talent and love. It's sad.
Lori yea u DH BP's a little hight for being on meds--something might not be clicking eith--but NM saud coughing (which I never knew) could cause it o go up. So when r u taking it. Maybe when he's completely relaxed?? I don't know really altho BP was my thingfor years to know about it, I really don't anymore.
NM u'r not creepy at all---but u don't know everyone in Maine and it looks like SK studies more about it. So we'll leave it at that.
Kat that restaurant must be great for u'r DH to want to go back--Good thing it's open and I hope he gets better.
Dork is on her way to fun--so we prolly won't hear from her.
Cyn u'r back in the swing of things--ugh Vacation is so much better.
My day was busy/lazy I spent it in ER--had some tests and gave me acouple of drips one an antibiotic for severe bladder infection. But this was the thing==The ER Dr said how are they treating u'r back and I was why, and he said Cancer--The look gave him must have knived him right in the throat--So he apologized and sai U really need more test, I'll let u'r Dr. know but it might not be can cer at all so please don't worry. I started laughing cuz I told him u sure have a way with throwin' around words. I'm not worried, but I wish I could have taken a pic of his face--oh and he was nice looking around 40---so I didn't have to ask his age for once.
My kids went out for Valentines Dinner so sweet--I didn't feel like going but they had to go early, Leslie didn't think about everyone being out so they'll be home early too. This is President week-end so Joey is off on Monday.
So I hope everyone has a swwet day (get it) sweet--Valentine candy- OK I'm tired and still crabby hahaha This is my crabby and I get mad cuz no one knows it so no one cares about it. LOL Oh well
-
Cami, Sure didn't sound like a fun Valentines Day for you....in the ER! BUT you did have a handsome dr, so that is ONE good thing. So he was saying you need more tests for what you went in there for? Mese funcused....but he did say he would get with your other dr., and then they will get back with you? Glad you will have Joey an extra day this weekend. We leave for home tomorrow, so it will end our week with our g'dau. IT was fun though...but I did have to make sure she did her schoolwork every day since she is home-schooled. Went well, except a little bump today, as she was tired, and it took awhile to explain the math she was working on. So I got her away from it, then we tackled it again and I *think* she got it. But I sure wouldn't be able to help her with math when she's older!!!
Hmmmm.....hadn't heard of 11/22/63 by SK...will have to check into it,Cyn.
Bernie, Did you get back home from your weekend with Liam in England? How is he doing? Did you get to do anything else while there? Missing you, and your jokes!
Oh, I am hoping our Dorkie is hitting it BIG at the Casinos!!!! And eating good food, getting tons of drinks, etc...... PLUS having fun!
Big Hugs to all, gotta hit the bed...lotta packing to do in the ayem before we are "On the Road Again....."

Kat I didn't realize u' GD is homeschooled , u had to keep up with it? I could never do that. It's really good for u cuz u can take her anytime without her missing school. I bet u hate to see this week end--except for u'r DH getting some reast.. LOL It's wonderful when u spend u time with u'r grandgtr tho. Makes it perfect.
When is Bernie coming back- it seems lik she's been gone for a while now.
Well I just woke up at 2ayem I'd better ged back to sleep---

Good morning, Loungettes! A very long week is drawing to a close, eventually. I'm on call from 5pm to midnight tonight, covering for the regular gal. I'm hoping there won't be any calls, but the way this week is going I'm not counting on it. Still, when midnight comes I'll be done for 2 whole days! Yeah!
Goldie--Ouch! Those BP readings are a bit scary, aren't they? You have a good point about the salt, too. One way to offset the salt intake is to drink lots of extra water, can you get DH to try drinking 1 1/2 liters of water a day? That would be 6 eight ounce glasses a day. He could drink 2 at each meal, or one at each meal and 1 after each meal. Or you could be sneaky and replace the salt in the salt shaker with a substitute. Is your DH at all overweight? Losing 10 pounds can make a big difference in BP and may be more acceptable to him than cutting back on salt. Thanks for the kind words, it's really nice to hear that after having a cranky day yesterday. Not sure why I was having a cranky, but I was and I had to speak sharply to myself and eat a lot of chocolate to adjust my attitude. Fortunately, it was easy to find chocolate yesterday!
Ooh, look at the Valentine's yummies! And the neat cupcakes and dwinkies!
Rakul's art work is GEORGEOUS! Thank you so much for posting.
Wahine--It was very eerie, and I was ATTENDING the school when I read the stories! I walked past the places mentioned every day! Very, very eerie at night, especially.
Mema--Yes, it's in the Dark Tower series! I couldn't think of the series name, still can't think of the name of the book, but that's OK. Why do you have back pain? Is it anything fixable?
ORLA--I know you were joking, I was playing along! It's fun! Hooray for feeling good!
CynCyn--No need to worry about the Maine craziness getting out, we sorta let the cat out of the bag when we started calling ourselves the Mainiacs. The Maine Air National Guard 101st Air Refueling Wing is based in Bangor and goes by the name of The Mainiacs. So all the planes getting refueled in the air over the northern Atlantic get their gas from a Mainiac!
Cammy--thanks for noticing that I'm not creepy! I can just imagine the look on that doc's face, and I can just imagine you having a great time playing with him over that remark! So funny!
Princess Glitter Sizzle's DOTD is the TGIF

Good Morning Loungettes,
Cami...why did you go to the ER? Did you feel sick and then they found the bladder infuction? Did the drips help?
Kat....safe travels today. So glad you had a good time in spite of DH being sick and that Maddy had a good time too. Girl, I give you so much credit with teaching her math. I still dont know simple math well, let alone teach to someone else..I would ruin them mathmatically for life.
Looks like another rainy and cloudy day here on the Sun Coast...hey..wait is that Dorty I see waving?? why yessss it is!!! HI Dorty!!!how are you making out dere in AC??? Win BIG for the team...(dats us). You also have safe travels home.
Orla..how are you feeling hun?
Miss ya Bernie!! But you as well be safe in your traveling.
HI and Hugz to eberyone ((( Hugz)))

good morning all, back in orlando for the girls last few days. went to kennedy space centre yesterday in the rain, back to universal today. cammi what have you been up to! a trip to the er
hope your feeling better today. lori good advice from nm about hubbys bp, as he had his renal function and kidneys checked out? because if there is not sufficient blood flow to the kidneys ,various chemicals are released which can make bp very difficult to control. re the water ,good fluid intake is good unless there is a problem with heart failure. does he know his ef or ejection fraction of his heart? do you think you could get him to track his salt intake for a day? sometimes seeing it in black and white makes more of a impression! kathy .hope your hubby is feeling better today hope you had a great time with your g dau. teaching her maths, good for you. bernie-hope you had agreat time with liam and your sister. dorty-have fun! don't do anything we wouldn't do( that gives you great latitude!)
-
So glad to see this thread. I have been feeling guilty for years... I am six years out-thanks be to God.
Wasn't it Ben Franklin who wisely once said, "Beer is proof that God loves us!"?
Cheers!!
-
Lynda sold a lot of her paintings. Seems she did a lot of art fairs. But gosh, she is SO GOOD!
Sue/NM, DH is not coughing as much, so it’s not that. He has had high BP for years. He is going to try and cut down on the sodium this week to see if that helps. Letting me cook for him, instead of eating the processed crap. Keep your fingers crossed, that it does help and he can pull it off! For instance, he likes that little can of Deviled Ham. Y’all know what I’m talking about? Teeny tiny can of, of, of (not sure) but that little bitty thing contains almost 1000 mg of sodium, and of course you have to eat it with saltines! 2000 mg, I think, is the recommended daily amount to be consumed.
Oooooh dats a pretty rose and diamonds Lara. How are you feeling and is your DH taking good care of you? Back to work on Monday?
Cami, DH does take his BP when he’s relaxed. We’ve been taking it in the morning and early evening.
OH NO Cami, ER. Well what other tests did they end up doing? And WTF is up with that doctor, gheesh! I hope you are feeling better today and no crabbyness. (((((CAMI)))))
And extra day with Joey is great, but don’t you have “something” going on, on Monday???
Safe travels home today Kathy. I know you will be sad to have your week with your g’dau over. As for math, used to be one of my favorite subjects, but could tell you a thing about it now! How are those peepers doing? Did you guys get to hit all the little shops?
NM, DH does drink water. Maybe not quite as much as you suggest, but in the summer he does. Doesn’t do anything to the BP. But I appreciate all of the info and suggestions. Yes, he is overweight, (who isn’t, lol) 6’3” 300 lbs. His rheumatologist used to get on him about his weight and BP, but since he (Darrell) doesn’t really do anything to try and lose weight, he quit harping on him. He doesn’t get the salt from the salt shaker, it’s the crap he eats that comes from a box, a can and frozen dinners. I hope your day is quiet and uneventful (no calls). I just can’t even imagine, you being cranky, glad you found some chocolate. Love the play on “Mainiacs”.
Cyn and Dorky, love how you two are waving and communicating with one another along the coastline. Dat is so coot.
Dorty, wese nose you habbing fun, it’s just in your nature!
Julie, not sure about the renal and kidney functions. He does get blood work done every 6 weeks, might it be checked there? I don’t know what that EF is. And I have tracked his salt intake, it’s always high. Usually 4000 or more, and I have calculated as high as 10,000. YES I said 10 THOUSAND. And I have mentioned to him about the amount of sodium in stuff, he gets sort of mad, and said he doesn’t want to hear about it. Sounds like you are having a great time with the “girls”, sorry bout the rain tho, that puts a damper on things. Have fun at Universal today. Are you purse holding????
Thank you so much everyone for all of the advice on DH. I am going to keep on him the best I can, and try not to sound like a nag. I keep telling him that this could kill him and I can’t manage without him. This morning he is having Shredded Wheat cereal ( NO SODIUM) instead of his frozen breakfast pizza (750 mg sodium). Gonna go and Google EF now. Love you all so beery muchly.
Well, hello LisaEllen. You are more than welcome to stay and have a drink with us, or not, that is fine too. Don’t be shy.
-

Cy u saw Dorky lucky u wave from all of us.
Oh and my Dr. sent me to the ER--she wanted my bladder and kidnewy with an ultra sound, the kidnewy part was where he climed to see 'cancer" I had a couple of IV's that why I was there for hrs. Ick and I was sent home with 2 NEW meds,hahaha-they'll never fiure me out. Oh thanks Lori I try to foret such things till the day I need to know LOL--I'm such a baby I know. She's soften today I know but I really think she should be fine about it. Why is she so upset?? Anyone--she should be happy. It's so boring-
Well I hope everyone has a good day and Kat be safe..
