Good morning, Loungettes!  Another weekend, another Blizzard Watch up.  It's 37 degrees and snowing on my back deck.  Welcome to winter in Maine!

Big ruckus in the news around here.  The local newspaper, the Bangor Daily News (aka, the BDN) filed a freedom of information act request to get the state police's list of people with concealed gun carry permits.  They asked for the names, addresses and birthdates of all the permit holders.  It sparked a big controversy and lots of references to the guy that used the online sexual offender list to hunt down and kill several people.  Lots of protesting going on, the BDN withdrew the request, but now another organization has made the same request.  So the legislature is trying to get  an emergency  bill passed to protect that information.  While I realize the names of the people with permits is public record info, what does a newspaper need with addresses and birthdates?

CynCyn--Raining where you are?  Well, could be worse, I suppose.  Hugz to you to!

Juliet--I went to the Kennedy Space Center one vacation, it was a blast.  I really enjoyed it.  Good idea for Lori's DH to track his salt intake for a day.  That can be very eye opening!

Goldie--I can see why Lynda sold so much of her work, it is absolutely wonderful!  She is VERY good!  I know that can of Deviled Ham, I actually like it for sandwiches, but not often, due to the sodium and other unpronounceable  stuff.  Hmm, I wonder if I could make that stuff myself?  Gonna have to look into that.  The nurse in me is always trying to fix things, and sometimes I get carried away.  Maybe Juliet's idea about having him add up the salt in the stuff he eats for day would be helpful.  He probably has had  his kidney function tests done with all that lab work.  Good luck keeping him on a good diet.  People coming off salt need several days to a couple of weeks to notice other tastes, so he's in for a bit of a bland eating time.  And yes, I do get cranky at times.

    ORLA--Good morning!

Cammy--Your DD may be upset with being sent away 'cause she's scared or worried about what is going on with you and wants to be there to get the info from the doc first hand.  And to make sure you are treated ok. There's lots of info out there about having someone with you whenever you are in the hospital, someone to advocate and help remember things.  Yeah, it can be boring, but being bored in the ER sitting with you is better than being at home scared and worried.

Kfontiane--welcome to the Hot Tatties Lounge!  What's your favorite adult beverage?  Let the tenders know and they'll keep the bar stocked up for you.

Princess Glitter Sizzle's DOTD is The Cranky Fixer

    2 oz peppermint schnapps

    hot chocolate

whipped cream Chocolate sprinkles for garnish (optional)

    Preparation:

Pour the schnapps into a mug or Irish coffee glass.

    Fill with hot chocolate.

    Stir well.

Optionally, top with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles or shaved chocolate.

Cami, YES we DO have the best gals for advice here, eSPEACIALly NM and Julie. Those long fleece jammies sound brutal to me, no way could I wear that to bed, too many hot flashes. I need my freedom when I sleep, if you catch my drift.

Hi Kristen and welcome. We DO indeed have some fun here, that’s what it’s all about. We call this The Hot Tatties Lounge, aka The HTL. A great place to escape. What part of the world are you in?

Lara, sorry for the bad day, I hope today is better.

Cyn, you like the rain? Or was that Cami? I think so. Oh well. How is that sweet lil baby boy doing? We need new pictures. Ya know his aunties want to watch him grow up.

Thanks again NM and Julie for the advice. DH did pretty good yesterday, so I am very proud of him, and told him so. Any idea on how long before we might see a change in the BP if we keep the sodium to a minimum?

That Cranky Fixer is poyfect, isn’t it! That should fix just about anything! And a great morning drink.

Good Morning Ladiez of de Lounge!

Whew....long drive yest....don't know why mapquest says 4.5 hrs, and yet it took 6.5 hrs! I don't think they take into acct the winding mountain roads where you can't go that fast! Was such a nice wk with our g'dau...her mommy hugged her like she wasn't ever gonna stop, when we brought her home! My g'son looked like he had grown taller in just the wk we were gone! She didn't sent much schoolwork with her, just about an hr a day, so wasn't bad at all. Good to be back home though, and be with OUR babies (M&M's as Lori named them!).

My eyes are still swollen, prolly cuz I didn't get to do the cold compresses like I was supposed to, the following day. Hope it all heals soon! I am having to put ointment on the liner lines as they have crusted up already, so the ointment gets in my eyes, and betwn being swolle and full of ointment, it is hard to see....LOL.

Lori, SO glad Darrell wants to try to watch his sodium intake, and is letting YOU do the cooking. HOORAY! However, I thought your number was high, so looked up the cdc.gov as I did always think it should be under 1500, and here is part of what they say on their site....

However, if you are in the following population groups, you should consume no more than 1,500 mg of sodium per day and meet the potassium recommendation (4,700 mg/day) with food.

    • You are 51 years of age or older.
    • You have high blood pressure.
    • You have diabetes.
    • You have chronic kidney disease.

The 1,500 recommendation applies to about half of the U.S. population overall and the majority of adults. Nearly everyone benefits from reduced sodium consumption.

Cami, I agree with NM...is IS good to have someone with you in the hosp and ER.....your DD can be your eyes and ears....while you aren't feeling so great she can remember what they do and say to you. AND it would be easier for her to be there with you, rather than at home worrying .Good advice, NM! Hope you are feeling ok today, Cami!

WELCOME to the HTL, Kristen!!! Glad you stopped by to join us, now pick out your own personal barstool, and STAY and dwink wid us, and bisit wid us for awhile!!! That is my DD's name, so I am partial to it, spelled the same way too! Let us get to know you!!

Funny that Dorkie is waving from the Atlantic Ocean, and able to see Cyn on the Gulf of Mexico side (did I get that right? Hated geography in school, since we were in HI and SO FAR from the mainland, it didn't seem like we needed to learn it!). Glad you had fun DorkiePoo!

Well, lots to ketchup on...Glad you are still having fun Julie! We have the Space Center here, so I have never been to the one in FL...but I bet its very impressive and interesting!!! Hope it hasn't rained EVERY day!

Bernie...are you home yet?? We miss ya, girl!

Hugs to all....was nice to get safely home, and ESP to get our g'dau home safely, with all those crazy drivers that want to run into you. Hoping everyone has a GREAT Sat-Turdless-Dey today!!!

    Yummmmmy dwinks today.....soooo good....*hic*....

    Hugsssssssssssssssssssssss,

    Kathy

    Good Morning Girls,

Hold it NM more snow??? That's Maine for u-u've been cursed I told u so. Oh that ham type of salad is easy to make (look who's talking) but the ham usually has a lot of salt by itself --so I don't know how good it would be for anyone with higher BP, egg sald--even if u want to use the whites only) or chicken salad would b better maybe.

Orange u sound like u feel better--hope so---and u sound alot ike me cu I'm doing the cozy pj thing with scary movies today too--It's cold here-like14 but NO SNOW NM SK is not from ILL. Bwahahaha and the DITD sounds ymmy.

BTW everyone--I got to talk to Lori yesterday YYYYAAAYYY for me. And NM she said what u said about my DD--I do understand, but I've gone thru every test, Drs. app't, chemo rads--alone and told everyone not to even come when I was in the hospital and I really meant it and when the Dr. first said bring someone one with u we have to talk--I didn't--I knew what was going to be said and I have to cheer them up, cuz I don't react normally and my girls cry all the ime and I goof around and they know this but they get upset eadily--I still remember when my surgeon said have someone with u and I said Why u need an audience to practice u'r bedside manner--cuz u don't have any. He put his head down and before u knew it he was hugging me everytime he saw me--so I hav to break these people in they'r much to serious. And we're fine now. We always are. Don't foret my kids are both sick in different way and I like to make things easier on them the way I know how. BUT I got to talk to Lori yesterday YYYAAAYYY and she is the sweetliest girl--ok woman--u'r a girl to me--Oh Lori I'm getting my meds today and I don't have to wait til Tuesday and so many thanks for the continued reminder of that stupid ass test monday--Oh I can't eat tomorrow or Monday Morn. and I don't got to the hospital til 12NOon --They seem to be doing this ass backwards, but I uess it's appropiate for the type of tests I'm having. Blah to that junk for drinking. Too bad I can't use Bailey's in it--I asked of course and I got u'r kidding right? Oh Oh yes I'm kidding.

Oh u'r going to think I'm so mean but my Katie-Kat keeps going on my side table with all my stuff on it and knocks it down so I got a spray bottle out and srayed her she got off fast now I just keep the bottle there and she's finally stopped. She loves knocking my stuff all over the place. So it's my solution. I know it sounds mean, but I don't hit her or anything like that.

Oh I just got a Frappicinno for my coffe--yummy.

    Everybody have a good day.

That's a long ride and u'r GD sounds so precious and I'm sure her mommy missed her. But u had such a good time, now let u'r DH rest please and how did Dorky every see u--good peepers ladies--nice going--haven't heard from her so she must really be having a good time.

Good morning, again, Loungettes!  Got a batch of bagels rising, and the kitchen mostly cleaned up. Gotta raid the freezer and see what I've got to work with there for the coming week.  Didn't get a single call all evening, woke up around 2 ayem and realized I was off call, fell very soundly asleep.  Now if only I can get Sadie to understand the concept of sleeping in. . . .

Goldie-- I used to love fleece jammies, and still do on the very coldest nights, but not otherwise.  Tend to get too hot even now that I'm not having hot flashes like I was.  I'm not sure how long before your DH sees an effect from the decreased sodium, I'll have to look that up.  And he's doing a great job, Hooray for Him!

ORLA--yup, more snow.  Already swept the deck off once, time to do it again.

Wahine--I think Mapquest calculates times on the maximum speed and no stops.  I always add to the trip time on mapquest.  HAH!  I just found a new trick--if I highlight and right click on a word that I can't spell correctly a pop up box comes on with suggestions!  How convenient!  The swollen eyes may not be fun right now, but I bet the end result, which you will enjoy for years, will be worth it!  In medical diet terms, NAD = no added salt = 2000 mg.  Low sodium = 1500 mg.  But you are right, the actual recommendations have changed since those definitions were created.

Cammy--Yup, more snow.  Supposed to get a lot of wind, so a lot of blowing and decreased visibility, hence the "Blizzard" warning, the accumulation prediction is for about 6 inches where I am, which is nothing, really.  The problem is that the temp is up to 40 degrees here at my house, and the stuff is very wet and heavy.  I know that spam is probably not good for me, but egg white or chicken salad just does not taste the same.  And I'm talking about once or twice a year, so it shouldn't be too big a risk for me!  Ok, you know your family better than I do, so I'll lay off.  And I've used the spray bottle of water on my dogs at times, too.  I don't think it's cruel, I think it's effective and essentially harmless.  Of course, if you get a kitty like one of my dogs, she'll think it's a game and start begging for squirts into her mouth!

OK Cami, I get it now. Didn't mean to keep bugging you about having someone with you, but now I understand you are protecting THEM....how awesome of you, really! I am impressed. NO, not mean at all to spray your furbabie....spraying them is easier than spaying them (devil made me say that...hahaha). But yeah, even NM has sprayed her furbabies....its a very humane way to let them know you mean "no"! LOL

OMG NM, more snow? Maybe two feet of snow??? (I couldn't resist....darn that devil....!)

Kat that's hysterical 2 feet of snow hahahaha--I rhink NM will enjoy that.

NM 6 inches-we get 6 inches that like a dusting almost to u. And beside 6" isn't enough for ANYTHING, yep ANYTHING.

Thanks for understanding my quirkiness I still haven't told my sister I was in ER this week she'll get so upset and for what?? U know what I mean. So I unload all my problems on u guys--u lucky ducks. hahahaha

Lara, my DH and I took our g'dau (8 yo) to Helen, GA (alpine-style town) for a week in a 2 br condo (she had entire loft to herself w 2 beds up there and walkway to her own balcony). Then we went to Asheville NC for the day, to get my eyeliner.

PULEEZ ask your dr or the nurse if you can get smaller fills....much easier on you! And I don't remember any black/blue at my port site, but then again it was almost 5 yrs ago, so memory (whats left) can get murky!

    Hello Ladies,

NM..snow again??? Thats Maine...ah ya...Great advice as usual ... we count on you so much.  Stay warm my friend and Sadie too.  How does she like the snow?

Mema....I read Geralds Game and Deloris back to back years ago..there are a few others that are related also Regulators and Desperation and some others I cant think of at the moment..I think Rose Red also has a refrence to Deloris.

    Kathy..I highly recomend 11/22/63 .

Gosh Julie..you go to Orlando a lot.  Im thinking of taking Donese when she is here next month but maybe only a day trip.

Lori..I dont think Reese looks any different..lol..but maybe because I see him all the time...his hair is growing in so he is looking a bit more like he should.  Mema gave me some tips on crate training.  I'll take some pics and post them. How your DH feeling now Lori...Kathy??  Yours? Cant wait to see the unswolen finished product of your eyeballs Kath....glad you made it home safe and sound..is your next trip the one in March?

Heya Lara...pjs and scary movies sound awesome....and yes, Lori its me that loves the rain ...gives a good excuse to do the lounging and scary movie thing.  When its bright and sunny I always feel like I need to be doing something.

    Is BBBBernie back yet?

I could see Dorty on the coast from the gulf..why yes sirree...this is a skinny state ya know!!!

Not so busy this weekend......but im only about half done.

Cami....I had wanted to tell you how much you bring to the lounge..you are awesome and I look forward to seeing you here every day.. I just had to say that ((  Cami )). Oh and I dont blame you about the squirt bottle...its not harmful and  it teaches a lesson.

LOL about seeing Dorkie from your side of FL! Skinny state, lol!!! Yeah, my Dh is better as far as the cold goes, but has been having chest pains today....always something. OF COURSE will not let me take him anywhere....he thinks he would have plenty of time if he had a heart attack, cuz he had one years ago and it was minor(? sounds like an oxymoron, yeah?) so he thinks he would be able to make a phone call, etc. But of course I lost my late DH to a heart attack and I KNOW you don't always have time to do ANYTHING. Hoping its just a pulled muscle. Yeah, our next trip is middle of March.....unless we fit in a Tunica trip before then....but I may just let him go, I have so much to do here. Can't wait to see a newer pic of Rees! (I think you decided to call him Rees and not Reese?)

Oh, my,I hope I don't get 2 feet of snow, in ANY form!  That pic is funny, though.  Actually it's been raining here for the last few hours.

Well, the bagels are done, and I now remember some of the tricks.  Like the dough needs to be REALLY stiff.  And the recipe makes 6, not 8 and not 12, no matter what I think when I'm shaping them.  They aren't good enough to take in to work, but they do taste good!

Sadie loves the snow, loves to run around in it and root around in it.  She also loves to drag her 5 foot snake toy around and get it all wet and muddy, then bring it inside and drag it all around the house. I have to make her drop it before I let her out, even then she'll grab it as she goes and get it past me anyway!  Sometimes it seems like she's messing up the house faster than I can clean it up!

kathy, while its possible his chest pain is related to the coughing he done over the last week  and its nothing more than pulled muscle ,he needs to get it checked out NOW,especially with his history!  tell him, don't make me come up there!  cyn, my nieces were here two weeks ,so came up in between working.    had mamamogram this week, seroma present but bs says unless causing me any problem will leave alone, plus he's happy to discharge me,follow up as needed. problem is ,my scar has been hurting since i got punched, so worker comp/employee health wants me to see a doctor , i would prefer to see him but will have to get clearence and straighten up who is paying for it, becuase of fraud in fl, they really tightened up on workers comp claims( know this from fellow employees experience) so will have to make sure all the t's are crossed and i dotted before making appt.  have a apt with employee health next week for follow up.nm stay warm!have a  good day everybody

Oh all the news- Julie u took a hard hit, u know u have to have it checked please--u would tell us to get it checked right? So find out quickliest.

Orange that is so funny----listen to Kat smaller fills--u'r in no hurry. Or are u?

Kat I certainly agree with Julie about u'r DH--just take him it's better to be safe than being mad at him. It wont take long and u'll both feel better cuz it prolly is from coughing. Besides he's just tryng not to worry u and u can talk him into anything.

Oh OH Cyn u got caught--Dorks home Miss skinny state--thought u could fool us-ha there's no flies on our asses.--2 more weeks right?

Well Dork now u have to keep drinking and slowly wein ur'self off--oh no I think thats crack, or meth--no heroine whatever it still works. Thenu have to go over u vacation with us--or what u can remember of it. Cyn told us she was waving to u cuz she saw u--liar liar pants on fire Cy. oops take em off Cyn u don't want to get burnt now.

NM my kids are trying to teach (well i call him Fred, but it's Sox???) hime how to wipe his feet. I won't say a word let them try. hahaha

Oh news item---I talked to the Dr. who's giving me down the throat and up the ass thing and he's cancdlling Monday. AGAIN---He said with all the infecton and kidney stone (which I don't think I had, even thos he showed me, cuz if u saw Karmer he knocked the guy off the high wire screaming so lou) but anyway as far as drinking all that stuff he thinks I shouldn't do it now and he new pain meds I got he thinks this should heal first.  I don't have a clue what he's talking about why he doesn't want to do it but that's fine with me. Boy these Drs. gossip alot and when the pain subsides I will be in a much better mood. Oh and my sister is going away for 2 weeks (sob) but now she has semi diarhhe and she needs a colonoscopy right away for the trip--hers is stranger than mine again we were laughing so hard about out poop and then I did tell her about the ER and we still were laughing--that's why I love her so much we think alike, we act alike at times we even talk alike--u could loose u'r mind--No that's a theme sone for Patty Dukes old, old show--my mind is scattering.

BTW the VACUUM was on this morning--I'm going to break that effin thing Sorry Dork but sometimes things have to be said. Anyway u ave that up for Lent not me. I don't give things up I try to be nice and don't eat meat on Fridays Well don't look for niceness here cuz I got a dispensation for that--immediately cuz computer are not on Lents list. I think that's why the Pope retired it's too hard to keep up with all this techy stuff. And I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm Catholic too so that could be it. And remember I take Caholisim seriously, I was going to be a nun, but as I ot older the nuns said they didn't think I had the true calling. And I should have been my retirement would have been great and insurance even better--so who were they to judge me. Oh yea the Monsginor said it too. Oh well I had the bigest crush on him and I know he knew it, he was so handome and not to old either. HMM maybe that's why.

I'm jammering again it' these cocamany meds I know they don't make me tired at all--I will continue with my goodole sidekick XANAX--then u won't be bothered me saying nothing

cammi, believe me i am following up as fast as workers comp will let me, if i have any serious problems i will be in er!  kathy hope hubby is seeing someone as we speak!  lori- blood work will, check how the kidneys are filtering the blood but to check blood flow to the kidneys would either be an ultrasound or xray with dye, tell him as a fellow salt addict,i know how hard it is to cut down but  you have to make cuts for your health i can't give up salt on chicken, boiled eggs or fries  but for other foods i like some of the spicy mrs dash products plus i will buy lower sodium products where ever possible and only have the high salt content as a treat now.  when salt is even in milk ,your daily total can soon mount up having eaten theme park foods and eating out at restaurents for the last 2 weeks, my daily intake as been running high  luckily the only time my bp has been up was in the days following being hit and is now back to my norma range but i did notice a difference in how i felt.when it was high.  ps my vacuum is broken so throw that one my way!

NM - good advice about the BP for Lori…but had to laugh about your own ‘tude adjustment with da chocolate…I too speak sharply to mesel…thot I was da only one…glad to kno mese gotz a partner in crime.  Den I journal…basically scream on paper…LOL.  Den bettah like buttah…now rethinking….mebe git mese some chocolate…heeehee.  Ahhh da back pain…mets girlfriend.  Not a lot I can do.  Like so many of us…try to avoid tooo many pain pills…I prefer dwinkin…but sumtimes that doesn’t work either.  They tail me when it gets debilitating…I think that means I can’t get outta bed (NOT THERE YET BY GOD) then there is radiation.  I am sure I don’t need to tell you….bone mets, anti-hormonals (aromisin/herceptin), general ‘aging’…it’s going to take it’s toll.  I’m OK….jes like most of us…we tend to ‘over-do’ cuz it’s our nature…then we gotta rest…I’m all goot wif dat chit!  I can’t remember specific names of that Dark Tower series either…but remember Rolan? and Suzanna?

I read ahead a little…saw that you woke at 2 and had not been called…that is a good thing…now u r done til what, late Sun nite?  You never cease to amaze me woman…if I had a hat I wud tip it to you….so…heres a BIG HUG!!

Julie - yeah about the renal function.  I cud tail u horror stories about that…my bff and my dd…if they’d ck’d da kidney neither one wud have had to spend so much time on pills and worry.

Lori - LOL bout the ‘bitchy pills n crabby ass’  I can so relate lately.  Glad dh is looking now at his salt intake and hope he continues to let you cook for him.  (((LORI)))  Jes saw the “HEY” post…LMAO!!!

Cami - so sad to hear u were in the ER.  But I have to add my 2 cents.  Kids will worry, no matter what their own health problems are.  So might as well give them the option of staying with or leaving.  They are grown and can decide for themselves if the boredom is more than they can handle.  Sometimes….it makes them happy to BE with/near you.  So…any results on why u were there and/or what prognosis is?  Oh wait….I see u r scheduled for a test on Monday…what’s that about…did I miss sumpin?  And doncha jes love it (hate it really) when u can’t eat, have coffee etc and ur test ain’t til noon….that’s jes crap!!   OOOPPPSS…I reading this ‘news flash’….don’t quite understand…is he putting off ur hiney/throat scope???  I am LMAO what u saying bout your sister…n Patty Duke…OMG Girl!!

Kristen - Hi Lady!  I think we have yakked on another thread?  Maybe not…I lurk on several.  But hey, welcome to da bestest of the best threads.  Like da other loungettes have sed…pull up a stool, order ur libation of choice, and one of our ‘Tenders’, as in bartenders, hunks, nekkid, boyz will be pleased to please you!!  heehee!

Lara - it’s called Gerald’s Game.  I really liked it!

Cyn - I thinks u are right….but it’s been a looonnnggg time since I read either one…but Rose Red rings a bell…must not have made the impact on me that the other 2 did.

About the squirt bottle….it is a GR8 training tool…except for doggies like Sadie…who like it…LOL NM!!

Wawa - is DH on an aspirin therapy?  I kno it’s nigh impossible to get these stubborn men to listen to us…we can only try (((Kat)))

Julie - see…more gr8 advice for WaWa…u go git em girl!!  Can’t stand that you are still hurting from that punch…I will pray dat da works comp and f/up appts go well…all tings in proper order.  You need to git this settled and git better!

Dorfy - R u dwinking???  Did u see u mama today??   I gotta go put dh feedbag on.  Will be back after he fall asleep.  Who wants to bet me…it will be within 1 hour.  It’s 4:30 PST.  Lattah tattas!!
