Hope you MIL had a good day today Alexandria.
Good night.

Alexandria, that sounds promising to me. DON'T GIVE UP!!!
Paula -
Thanks girls - not long now. Put the garbage out and I'm glad I thought to give some fruit and veg to the next door neighbours. She seemd to appreciate the thought. I hate throwing out good food. They're bringing our bins in for us and collecting any junk mail, so it was the least I could do.
Weighed our bags on my digital bathroom scales and mine was over - eek. Took my little computer out and it seems to be ok. If we are over when we check in, we can get the overnight bags out and fill them up with shoes or something and take them as carry on. We have to have bags for the bike trip as they don't have enough room for big cases and I stashed them in the top of the case.
I wish I could calm down - maybe anxiety is a result of bc - I don't remember being this bad before.
-
Susie~Take a few deep breaths, then GO ENJOY YOURSELF!!!
Blessings
Paula -
Thanykyou Paula - once the cab arrives I'll be fine. We are lucky to have this lady to call when we need her otherwise we might end up with an Indian - our cabs have been taken over by them.
-
Alexandria, the critique on your book was pretty darned good if you ask me! How encouraging for you!! The situation with your mother in law is appalling!
Paula, I've been on taxol for a couple of months, 3 weeks on, 1 week off, and it's been very good to me. Slight neuropathy, slight diahrrhea, but lots of energy and really, I feel pretty normal. Counts have been good, too. And no hair loss. I'd like to stay on it forever!! And besides that, tumor markers have gone down! Hope it's just as gentle and effective for you.
Suzie, you're going to have such a wonderful time! Enjoy every minute!
Everyone have a great weekend! Those in the snow, please take care! -
Glenna~Thanks for sharing your experience with taxol. I'm hoping mine will be easy too. Mine will be weekly for 12 tx. I guess that makes the SEs a bit milder. I talked to my onc in depth about it today. She told me not to use my hand for any work the day after treatment. I don't know if that's every time or just the first tx.
Blessings
Paula -
Hoping everyone in the East is staying warm and safe. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Yesterday marked 1 year since I got that call with the words none of us wanted to hear. Thought last year was a roller coaster ride and that I was done with those feelings, but memories of all that happened are resurfacing. Even though I read more than write, I thank you, ladies, for your support.
-
Here I am sitting at the right gate at the airport ready for a flight to the sun for a week. The drive in the snowstorm yesterday was memorable. It just makes the more exciting.
-
Welcome, Julianna!
Susie - NZ is wonderful! My daughter and I went there a few years ago and had a glorious time.
Alexandria, I'd like to be first in line for an autographed copy of your book! How exciting and amazing for you. Can you work the horrors of Medicare into it somehow? ;-)
Speaking of Medicare, I had a double whammy yesterday - Zometa AND Faslodex. The bone pain usually starts 1-2 days after treatment so the weekend won't be a 6-pack of fun, but I'm grateful that they're keeping the cancer under control.
We're just south of the snow line so nothing here but wind. It's howling like Medicare out there.
Glenna - I'm sooo very glad that Taxol is kind to you. We must get together soon. A pile of us are going out to the trainer's on the 18th and watch our horses' training. Would you like to join us?
In other news, we signed the lease on our new digs yesterday, so we are MOVING TO A FARM on April 1! My happiness bubble is full to bursting! Just don't let Medicare know...they'll find a way to pop the bubble. Damned guvmint.

Enjoyful: Happy lease signing!! So glad you and your beautiful boy will be sharing homes.
Suzie: We want a full report on NZ. From the pictures, it looks so beautiful.
And everyone: Thank you for the encouraging words on my novel. I am actually now feeling very good about the comments. I was IMing my DD in California when the e-mail came in, and my first reaction was disappointment that i wasn't going to be reviewed by an agent. My DD smacked me around, telling me, "Mom, he thinks it's publishable. It's a very good review." The reviewer is a published author of thrillers. He had some comments for what he called "light polishing" but seemed to think it was pretty good even without the polishing. So I am pushing forward, hoping to finish by sometime in March. (MIL's illness got me off my writing schedule.) Will go back and do the polishing after I'm done with the first draft.
When we saw MIL last night, she was still pretty delusional but she'd eaten well and she looked better. We made a fuss about her pulling the oxygen mask off when left alone, and they promised to watch her carefully.
-
Morning everyone - glad to see some storm area dwellers checking in. The New York Times has some amazing photos that people submitted via Instagram here:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/02/08/us/the-storm-on-instagram.html?hp
E -FABULOUS NEWS! I want to visit your farm one of these days.
-
There really need to be some safety standards for shoes:

Also, they should specify whether they are for daily wear or for the circus:
-
Athena, YIKES! At the least they should carry warnings!
-
Alexandria.....I also thought your book review was much more positive than negative though got so upset about your MIL that I neglected to say anything. So...I said it. Now then, sure glad you have some assurance that she (MIL) will be watched closer at night. This just ABSOLUTELY is a TOTAL must have for her. Oxygen deprivation is never good, ever.
I sure am hoping that this storm settles out soon. It just sounds so horrific. The pictures from NY Times Instagram as well as what has come over T.V. news this morning.....wow, I"m speechless. The wind gusts with cold and snow look so over-bearing. I can certainly see why the warning is to stay inside somewhere......just hope that there is power and needed supplies for everyone. I did see pictures of empty store shelves.
Will be checking in later as I always do.
Thinking about you too, Paula.
Hi to Julianna.
Jackie

Alexandria - I agree with DD - that was a DAMN FINE REVIEW! You are PUBLISHABLE. wow, just wonderfully, happy, happy dance WOW!
Yorkie, I'm still giggling with your furry friend on TOP of the table outside...what a hoot! fabulous..
Snow, did someone mention snow

Woke up and immediately tried the light next to my bed - YIPPEEEEEE...we have power! Heat, water, and now several weeks worth of the soup I cooked yesterday to reheat on camp sterno stove if I needed it. Had to wedge open the outer glass door, which opens outward, and doing so moved about 10 inches of snow - a drift. Gorgeous, really, can't say how much cuz winds still blowing, drifts easily cover all the stone walls around me. SO BEAUTIFUL, and having power makes it easier to say that. Fields of snow, only tracks are a few deer, or squirrels, and soon cross country skiers...I'll stick to my snow shoes...
Did some shoveling, but not planing to go anyplace....still very windy. All road "legally" closed in MA, also CT.
-
Alexandria, I'll echo what everybody else said about the review. Sounds darn promising to me! Your poor MIL got all of our attention, but I think you will definitely get that book published.
-
Alexandria ... I too thought that reviewer was telling you that you had a good thing and should go for it. Congratulations!
Watching the news re all that snow ... wow. Glad to see you all seem to be weathering the storm OK.
Read this today. Glad to see that at least some are not willing to totally sacrifice the people of their state on the altar of destructive partisan politics.
http://news.yahoo.com/switch-gop-governors-back-expanding-medicaid-204338536.html
"Once largely united in resisting the Obama administration's new health care overhaul, a growing number of Republican governors are now buying into parts of the system as the financial realities of their states' medical costs begin to counterbalance the fierce election politics of the issue."
"Snyder said that in Michigan, the expansion would provide coverage for about 500,000 uninsured residents, mostly at federal expense, and save state taxpayers $1.2 billion through 2020." "This is a federal program that we would not have necessarily created for Michigan," he said Wednesday, but "this is saving money and improving lives."
Athena ... those shoes have the potential to greatly increase our health care costs

-
Nice thought for the day ...

-
Alexandra -- Congrats on a truly good review of your book!
All is calm, all is WHITE here in Niagara! Sun is supposed to come out this afternoon and tomorrow so it will be pretty before it becomes dirty and slushy! We did get about a foot or so -- hard to tell with all the drifting. Sending warm wishes to those in the NE who are still dealing with the storm. Last one of the winter, I'm thinking (hoping, actually!).
For anyone with teens wondering what profession to go into, I would strongly suggest podiatry! There will be LOTS of customers in a few years, after wearing the stilts that pass for dress shoes these past few years.
-
Nothing like an adorable kitty to brighten the day!

-
Want kitten! My cat disagrees strongly with that wish.

Catching up on my internet reading of the news (which unfortunately, these days, always includes news about guns.....) A few articles to share.....
Wow, call me naive, but I had no idea that they make pink guns. What a tragic result.....
And this was a truly fascinating read......lethal combination of guns and mental issues....

Belinda-
I know someone with a pink gun. It's the daughter of a friend of mine. Her husband got her a pink glock for Christmas, and she posted several pictures of it on facebook, I'm sure in response to the anti-gun furor after Sandy Hook. She has 2 small children. She's currently not in my newsfeed on facebook. I'm having a hard time not commenting on her pictures, and for the sake of my relationship with her mother, I'm trying not to be snarky.
I saw that article a couple of days ago and my mind instantly went to her.

Stopping in to say hi.....
Love all those pictures and captions, Blue.
Belinda....the New Yorker piece was fascinating and very chilling. I'm reminded about "witness" interviews in general where vastly different accounts can turn up over the same incident. We do seem to have materials that would aide in proving insanity......but what do we have to prove sane people will remain so. Just a thought or two here.
If I had to say....I think I'd be saying there was a cover-up long, long ago.
