Oh OK I felt bad there for a bit, so now I don't LOL
-
Sorry some of the Babes are going through troubled times. Big hugs and lots of love for you.
-
Cammi I was brought up strict Catholic so I know exactly what you mean. I asked a nun once was she was so cruel to the children when it went against all God's teaching.
Was expelled for that one.
-
Bernie hahahaha--I know years ago there was no thinkin on the kids part--if u asked a normal question u go the mystery speech for faith and i u asked something off the grids u were thrown out of class. hahaha and u'r right getting hit by a nun was no big deal to them.LOL Now I look back and laugh at the time I thought they were all old witches. But they could teach and strict--hell that's all they did then. Bernie do u remember being taught the Palmer method of penmenship not the Kersif--It was so beautiful-it just flowed from u hand and everyone had such pretty handwritin cuz u just didn't practice letters u practiced the movements of u'r hands.

Good Morning
I hate to hear about the hard time you are having with your mom Dorty.
I am sorry that you are having to endure this . It has to be hard to have
aging parents and have to take on responsibility to secure their well being. I am
glad that you have here to come as an outlet. ((( Dorothy )))Hi Karen...Im sorry to hear about your baby sitter. It sounds like you have some
amazingly awesome memories of her. Some people come in and stay a while and when
they do go ..they still leave pieces in your heart. ((( Karen ))).Kathy..when it rains it pours eh?? One ailment after another...you need a break
from health issues...matter of fact we all do...I cant imagine getting that puking
virus...makes me a little afraid to fly Monday thinking that everyone I come in
contact with could be a carrier...and being in that metal tube with circulated and
recycled air...sounds like a recipe for disaster. Did you need any stiches? How is
your DH making out now? You sure are a trooper Ms.Katwinkawahine.Mema...I gave Reese and old slipper...but I made sure to put any footwear out of
reach..especially the LLBean slippers I got for D for Xmas.Bernie, how is Liam?
I never heard the Sadie story..
I tried to attach some pics of Reese but I couldnt change the size and they come out huge...Maybe in a new post.
Everyone have a great SaTURDay.
Luv, Cyn

Good morning, Loungettes! Almost 20 degrees here this am, regular heat wave! Hmm, the recipe that I copied and pasted posted kind of oddly. Oh, well.
Wahine--I like the idea of "puka" for hole! I may have to steal that for my work! Yup, Sadie picked me. When I went to the shelter where she was she started jumping up and down, barking over the partition "Pick me!" "I love you!" "Pick me!" "You love me, too!" "Pick me!" "Please take me home with you!" It was love at first bark, both ways. I'm hoping to get lots done here at home today, while it's warm and good for hanging out laundry. Speaking of witch, time for the 1st 15 minute work session. . .
CynCyn--didn't you know that puppies can arrange the world so they get the human they want? Reese still picked you, he just had to work through Craig's list to get to you.
Mema--yeah, my friend and I stopped at another shelter first, it had closed 20 minutes before we got there. Somehow Sadie arranged for that to happen, I'm sure. Not sure how she did it, but she did! Puppies and dogs have magic, you know.
Cammy--going through bc treatment is enough to make any of us into hypochondriacs. Cut yourself a break, keep asking the questions and getting peace of mind until the next time.
Wahine--my Mom and her mom got skin cancers on their faces, and Gram on her hands. Mom has had a couple removed and keeps watch for more. I suppose I should, too. I did have a couple of moles removed from my face last spring, because I always wanted to get rid of the "beauty marks" and they were biopsied, too, both just moles. Funny how people who always commented on my "beauty marks" have never said a word about my having them removed, not even my Mom!
Cammy--do you copy/paste or use the green tree icon? If you use the icon (I use firefox so I have to) you will see the size after you paste the url into the screen. You can change the numbers there--changing them to 800 or less will make the picture smaller and fit better on the screen. If you copy/paste I'm sure that you can do something similar, but I'm not sure how it would work. Someone here would.
ORLA--I am praying that all the nasty bugs and germs leave you alone until your recon is completely done and healed.
Karen--you and your babysitter are in my prayers. I know this must be a really hard time for you. {{{{{{{{karen}}}}}}}}}
DorKable--have your sisters get in touch with a social worker at your Mom's nursing home. He/She can help with placement in NJ and with insurance info and such. Taking your mom to the ER won't help unless you "dump" her there, take her and drop her off, leave and refuse to come pick her up. Not the best approach. It might be wise to have the nursing home make a referral to the state where she is unless she has made one of you girls her POA. Without a POA form the spouse is the automatic health care proxy decision maker, unless she is capable of making her own decisions and agrees to leave your dad, you will need something like that to make anything happen without proof of danger or actual injury to your Mom by your Dad. Crazy, but there it is.
Wahine--I hear you about the house work. How can a place with just one woman and one dog get so messy over the course of a week. Sigh.
Cammy--better a quiet day than one with the "D"1
Juliet--good point. I often with God didn't trust me so much, too!
CynCyn--I can understand your concern about being inside that metal tube with circulated and recycled air. Some things you can do to help yourself--get some saline nasal spray, keep the inside of your nose moist. This helps keep the mucus membrane intact so no germs can get through. Do not put anything inside or touch the inside of the pocket on the back of the seat in front of you, dirtiest place on the plane, never cleaned. Hand santizer every time you think of it. When you first board and sit down, put a lot of santizer on your hands, rub it partly in, then rub over the arms of the seat, the seatbelt buckle, the tray catch and the tray. The sanitizer will help clean off those surfaces. Try to be sure you don't touch your face at all. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Suck on zinc lozenges to kill off any cold viruses before they get a chance to settle in. Change clothes as soon as you can after you arrive, and wash the ones you were wearing before wearing them again. Use Airborne or Emergen-C, both come in powders you can mix into a bottle of water. Try to be sure you get a good night's sleep the night before you fly. It'll all help.
Princess Gitter Sizzles DOTD is The Happy Saturday
Three measures gin (preferably 90-proof)
One measure vodka (also 90-proof)
Half a measure absinthe or Pernod (whichever you can get locally–the flavor and color will be the same.)
Stir with ice in cocktail shaker, strain into cocktail glass, garnish with a strip of lime peel.
Fair warning: if you hate the flavor of gin, licorice, or both, you’ll hate this!

OMG thats a strong DOTD NM! Guess we may need it to deal with everything we all have to do today! Good luck with your housework. I had forgotten about a seminar I signed us up for, so have to leave out shortly. Geez....guess I can't do housework this ayem...darn it..LOL. And then we go out to lunch as thats the only way DH would agree to go with me to the seminar. To his fav place, Chipotle. Oh I love your Sadie story!!! I had been to several shelters too, and found Maverick online (he was Ralph)....his sweet face just spoke to me. BUT when we got to the shelter, he had a sister too, our Molly (was Sally)...and she was too shy and skinny and we prolly wouldn't have gotten her on her own, but saw how close she was to Mav, so of course we had to get them both. He would bark and whine and jump up on the cage when we had them take Molly out for us to see. AND the pound had kept them past the time they were supposed to get rid of them, so we are SO thankful for that. They are just the sweetest furbabies! And Molly is not shy or skinny anymore either! It scares me tho, as we got them about 8 yrs ago, which means they are 10 1/2 or so already. I hope they live a long, long time. Hope that for Sadie too!
Cyn REALLY good advice from NM....I also try to remember to sanitize the tray table on the plane, remote when they have it, the screen when they have it, etc. BUT the new Super Bug Noro-type virus is immune to the sanitizers. AND they said it can live 2 wks on surfaces. SO try not to touch your face, esp your nose, eyes, or mouth. I like her saline spray idea, I need to do that when we fly, as your nose does get so dry, and they say when its dry the germs have a field day. Well they don't say that.....but ya know!
Hugs to all, Prayers for Dotty and her family. Hoping Lori is having a good time. And hoping Lara is still improving a lot, every day.
Love!
Kathy

Good Morning Ladies---
NM great advice a bout the plane, I knew some of that but u really covered it and Kat u even added to it. Wow lots of thin' going on in a plane that u can't see.
Cyn u'r little furbaby is so adorable u have to love him/her immediately. It's funny cuz when we got sox They were walking around the place and sox was just sitting straight up so picturesgue and Marty (SIL) said u want to come home with us and he barked once and they picked him, and what a wonderful dog listens all the time and loves to be near someone all the time and follows u all over. And he's so nice to Katie-Kat and she's a bitch to him and he never gets mad. So I think u'r right how they choose who they want. My Katie did too.
Dork that's a wonderful idea about contacting th nursing home--they can be so much help to you. And possibly ease u'r decisions and it would be easier on all of u.
Orange I hope u better more so today, but keep on resting.
Kat thhat new super-bug (sounds like a hero) u said the germs last 2 weeks on surfaces, how long is it contagious between people? Do u know. and it's immune to sanitzers. Geeze my DD dcided to go to my other DD's house today cuz supposedly since she's had it almost 2 weeks she said it's no longer contsgious, it's only contagious the first couple of day. But they still don't want me to go--Huh maybe it's there way of saying haha Mommy won't have to be here. Sneaky lil brats.
OK I've got my coffee and I have to wake up completely--as if I ever do-- OK 3 days no D...
-
yes im having a beeer off the pain meds for 4 days
taste like water
-
Orange u'r kidding right???? hahahaha

Good morning, again, Loungettes!
Wahine--a strong DOTD is a good thing, right? Doggy faces do talk to us, don’t they? I just saw some pics of CynCyn's Reese on Fb, he is ADORABLE, with an ADORABLE little puppy face! I got most of the tips about flying from the AARP website. Surprisingly helpful, that site.
Cammy--The Noro virus spreads through contact--touching a contaminated surface and then touching the mouth, nose or eyes. A person's hand can be a contaminated surface, if he/she has the virus. Prevention is the best option. Lots of things aren't killed by the alcohol in hand santizers, including c-diff and things that make spores (yeasts, molds). The absolute best protection is plain old soap and water. Not anti-bacterial soap, either. That actually makes no difference and may even result in more infections due to the false sense of security it gives, so people don’t wash as often or as long. Generally speaking, as long as someone has diarrhea they are contagious. Diarrhea is the body's way of getting rid of the toxins and the germs. There will be germs in the diarrhea and it can get on hands when cleaning up yourself, and be on the toilet and bathroom doorknob and other surfaces, . Germs can get aerosolized when the toilet is flushed, and breathed in by the next person in the room. So better to stay away from DD for the time being, and make sure the other DD changes clothes and washes up when she gets home. Hooray for 3 days, no D!
ORLA--beer tastes like water? So not fair!

Happy Saturdey girls!
Thank you all for the love and support with the situation with my parents.
Camille, I was very touched by your post last night, it brought tears to my eyes. You really are quite a remarkable lady and I jest love you so much. I loved hearing you talk about your Catholic school days. I also have some friends from high school who went to Cathotic grade school and they had the same issues with the nuns. The parents of all of these girls really thought they were doing the kids a world of good but in essense, the poor girls ended up fearing God and were raised to believe that he is a punishing God which we all know is not true.
Kathy, you too, your words were touching. I hope you win something at the gig today!
NM, thanks for the advise, I have passed this info to my sisters. We are really in a desparate situation. We have to find a place for both Mom and Dad here in NJ. I told my Dad today that we would never get him be homeless. He said that he would RATHER be homeless than to go back and live with my bil. They had a fall out last time yet my sister told him that he is still invited to go there. He does not want to come here and he does not like living with dogs. I told him that my dogs would love to have him and to think about it. He would have the place to himself all day if he agreed to come and live with me.
Lara, I talked to you through PM but just want to add that we are all routing for you to have this surgery work out and hope that you are free from pain soon. (((Lara)).
You all truly make me smile with such great posts. NM, very useful info on that nuro virus thing. I am personally a soap and water person, do not like using the crap on my hands, it dries them out. I also had the sanitizer ruin a silk blouse when I got a spot on it so I do not use it. I try very hard not to touch surfaces at work. Our company just put in hand sanatizing dispensers throughout the building but when I leave my desk, I walk around with a paper towel in my hand. I do not touch anything in the coffee room without the paper towel and if I do, I immediately wash my hands very good. So far, I have escaped everything going around.
Back to you Cam, wohooooo for three days with no D! You go goil! I hope this will be a continuing trend.
Well girls, I have got to get dressed and go and get my hair done. I love my saturday pampering more than anything. I love each of you so much and pray for you all often. I need another group hug, here is one for all of you (((((BWESTIES))))). Stay well girls and be happy, ok? Cheers!
-
Morning DahhhhlinKs!!
Karen -
for your loss.
Dorfy - NM is absolutely right. If dad stays behind, without a POA (power of atty) this could be really rough. My heart is sooo heavy about all this. I can still see the smiles on their faces and holding your moms hand. And her asking me all these questions about my mom. What a sweetiepie!! Obvious you dad wud be so miserable. I'm still praying this transition goes smoothly. (((Dorfy)))
Cyn - Reese is da coootspatootie...omg...adorable and sooo widdle...ahhhh!!
Kathy - to get out of housework...yahoo. What kinda seminar is it? Very cute story about da pooches.
NM - I read an article few years ago that bleach is only thing that will kill c-diff and that med facilities were making changes and incorporating it into their cleaning routines. I still think carrying a bleach rag in a ziplock and using it on the plane etc, wud be sooo helpful. I never thot about washing me and my clothes tho. Will certainly be aware of that when I fly to CA and then AZ. And of course, I am good at nose douching. heehee.
Regarding the catholic upbringing....Bernie, Cami you both stirring up nightmares for me. There was a Sister Claudine, she was sooooo mean...many times I wud break down crying, then she'd call me a baby...tell me my hair was a mess, my uniform a disgrace, my shoes nasty (tennies cuz mese feet sooo big cudn't find blk/wht saddle oxfords in my size)really?? All this in front of the class and then send me to principle. We called that meanie Sister DirtClod. They had a box to put questions in...so I did. I asked, "how do you know who wrote the bible? It was soo long ago and other people prolly changed a bunch of stuff. How can you be sure it was so n so?" I don't kno how...but the priest KNEW it was me and boy did I hear it...and the 'faith' thing. Glad those days are behind me.
Orla - Good for you...sooo glad you are feeling better :-O!!
Lubslubslubslubslubs all ya'll...have a GR8 DAY!!
-
BEER TASTING LIKE WATER???? That is the most horrible thing I can think of...I feel for you Lara...ick...tho I have been told that my cheap Natty lights taste like water too and actually thought of changing to the full flavor Nattys so maybe I wont have to drink as many to catch a buz...but Im a creature of habit..cant teach an old dog new tricks..a little doggie humor in there.
Thanks for the advice for traveling..I'll have to see if I can track down some sanitizer. I was just thinking about the seat pockets...yeah..gross....lol...no more sky mall mag for me..going to have to remember my book.
-
Mema...I bummped right into you....ooops....
-
Dork pamper u'rself today like crazy. We had the poa for health and monetary issues then they had t be separate-all the legal stuff my brother took care of quickly--but we really didn't need it so much. Do u still need that now? I know howdifficult this is but u gave u dad choices which is good, but u have to be stern that he makes one of the choices and that's it. That's the hard part--I'm so sorry u'r family is going thru this. This is very difficult for all of u. Bt u'r a good strong family and figure it all out.
Sue sorry it brought all those memories up-u really took rhe nuns seriously, but not enought to write some fun stuff. LOL Those days the nuns said and did pretty much what they felt like doin, but they never made me cry--they thought I was cazy, cuz I'd laugh and I couldn't help it. hahaha u got suspended--See that would hurt cuz my parents would find out. There was no DNA then so got away with a lot and had so much fun. I'm sorry u didn't but we did grow up with manners didn't we? LOL

Dotty, The new tenant's children did their own POA and Health POA from forms on the internet. Thats how I did POA's when I bought 2 properties here for my parents, while they were in HI. But since I know we also need Health POA and one for money matters, I am going to have them see an elder atty here. But I think that may cost $1k or so. SO if your state recognizes forms from the internet, you would just need to have everyone involved sign it and have it notarized. Such GOOD info from everyone....we are truly blessed with the great group of ladies on our thread!!!! Well, that doesn't sound so nice....on our thread...I should say...in our LOUNGE!!! Prayers still going out for you and your family.
The seminar we went to was put on by my PS and the other 2 PS's in the office. They do it every so often. MOST times we have won gift certificates, even though they don't have many to draw for. While they are drawing for the skin care gift bags, we are hoping we don't get called. Then we hope like heck, when its the gc's. SO....I won $100 and then my DH won $250....can use for skin care items, laser at their skin care offfice, or toward a procedure from a PS. It was at a performing hall, and was packed...no one around us won anything, so that was awesome! Also the only reason I like to go. They had 2-$100 gc's, 2- $250 gc's, 1- $500 gc, and a $750 gc, which they added this time. So for us to win 2 when they only had 6, was very lucky! WooHoo!!!!!! Too bad the good stuff costs thousands!
Oh Cyn, such cute pictures....little Reese is just too cute for words! And soooo tiny! What does he weigh? I know you are going to miss him, even though you are going to have such a wunnerful time in TX!!! You know how they us "XO"'s as a symbol for love, or kisses, or sumtin? Well, the "X"'s must mean something good....so you could still sing that song..."All my "X"'s live in Texas"....lol...but this time it means a GOOD thing! lol
Wow, Mema, Bernie, Cami....all had bad catholic school experiences. Sounds scary!!! Hope they don't do those things now, and are more loving to the students. Geez, that would cause major nightmares!!!
Lara, glad you are on the beer now! WooHoo...partay!!!! Maybe you need some stronger beer??? Or else, just drink water....lol. Glad you are mending well.
Shoot, this is on a new page, so can't go and look at that other page...prolly missing someone, or something I was going to comment on.
Well, back at home now, so no excuse not to do housework. BUT it is only 2 hrs 7 min to Pau Hana time here! Yippeeeee. Oh, I told my DH that taught you gals how to say hole in Hawaiian, which like you all now know, is puka. He can't remember that word for the life of him. Comes up with all sorts of words similar, but its a riot (Dorkie knows how silly he can be)....I even remind him of those shell necklaces from ages ago, but that doesn't help! Auwe!
Take care, I wanna partay tonight....hoping Dotty will have some better news....
Luv Youse All,
Kath

Kat u lucky ducks--u both won, what are the odds of that happening.
And if u haven't been able to get out of housework by now,TA TA TA

Katwinka...coolio about winnin...and DH too..whooooooo..... what luck..now you need to go out and play the lottery..or go to Tunica and win Bigliest. So sweet of you to hailp out your new tenants with info..you Rock!
Maude, so funny talking about Catholic school...Im not catholic and was never a Catholic School girl..but thought about dressing up like one for Halloween..or sumtin....sounds like torture....yikes on dat.
K..gotta run..gettin late and I got a poopin puppy running around that I gotta train...Jeeze Louise... ..do we have anyone named Louise here?? No??

Good old catholic upbringing - fear and guilt - beaten into us.
-
- Note: Southwest has no assigned seating; you just sit where you want.) Passengers were apparently having a hard time choosing their seats, when a flight attendant announced, "People, people we're not picking out furniture here, find a seat and get in it!"
- On a Continental Flight with a very "senior" flight attendant crew, the pilot said, "Ladies and gentlemen, we've reached cruising altitude and will be turning down the cabin lights. This is for your comfort and to enhance the appearance of your flight attendants."
- On landing, the flight attendant said, "Please be sure to take all of your belongings. If you're going to leave anything, please make sure it's something we'd like to have.
- "There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane"
- "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride."
- As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Ronald Reagan, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big fella. WHOA!"
- After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight announced, "Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything has shifted."
- From a Southwest Airlines employee: "Welcome aboard Southwest Flight 245 to Tampa. To operate your seat belt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seat belt; and, if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public unsupervised."
- "In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with more than one small child, pick your favorite."
- "Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but we'll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than Southwest Airlines."
- "Your seat cushions can be used for flotation; and, in the event of an emergency water landing, please paddle to shore and take them with our compliments."
- "As you exit the plane, make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses."
- And from the pilot during his welcome message: "Delta Airlines is pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. Unfortunately, none of them are on this flight!"
- Heard on Southwest Airlines just after a very hard landing in Salt Lake City: The flight attendant came on the intercom and said, "That was quite a bump, and I know what y'all are thinking. I'm here to tell you it wasn't the airline's fault, it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't the flight attendant's fault, it was the asphalt."
- Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo, Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day: During the final approach, the Captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo. Please remain in your seats with your seat belts fastened while the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!"
- Another flight attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal."
- An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the Passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying our airline." He said that, in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally everyone had gotten off except for a little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?" "Why, no, Ma'am," said the pilot. "What is it?" The little old lady said, "Did we land, or were we shot down? "
- After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the attendant came on with, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Capt. Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal."
- Part of a flight attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of US Airways."
- Heard on a Southwest Airline flight. "Ladies and Gentlemen, if you wish to smoke, the smoking section on this airplane is on the wing and if you can light 'em, you can smoke 'em."
- A plane was taking off from Kennedy Airport. After it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain made an announcement over the intercom, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Number 293, nonstop from New York to Los Angeles. The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have a smooth and uneventful flight. Now sit back and relax... OH, MY GOD!" Silence followed, and after a few minutes, the captain came back on the intercom and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier. While I was talking to you, the flight attendant accidentally spilled a cup of hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!" A passenger in Coach yelled, "That's nothing. You should see the back of mine!"
- A mother and her young inquisitive son were flying Southwest Airlines from Kansas City to Chicago. The son (who had been looking out the window) turned to his mother and asked, "If dogs have baby dogs and cats have baby cats, why don't planes have baby planes?" The mother (who couldn't think of an answer) told her son to ask the flight attendant. So the boy dutifully asked the flight attendant, "If dogs have baby dogs and cats have baby cats, why don't planes have baby planes?" The flight attendant responded, "Did your mother tell you to ask me that?" The little boy admitted that she did. "Well, then, tell your mother that there are no baby planes because Southwest always pulls out on time. Now, let your mother explain that to you."
- Note: Southwest has no assigned seating; you just sit where you want.) Passengers were apparently having a hard time choosing their seats, when a flight attendant announced, "People, people we're not picking out furniture here, find a seat and get in it!"

Good morning, Loungettes! Winter storm warning up for today, with a beautiful sunrise and clear skies at the moment. Will be interesting to see what we actually get.
DorKable--You might want to look into an Assisted Living situation for your parents. In an assisted living setting someone administers meds, meals are provided, usually in a dining room setting like a restaurant, but the apartment will have a small stove and fridge so meals can be cooked in the apartment, too. Maintenance is taken care of, often there is an emergency call system and staff on duty 24/7. It's a great combo of independence and needed help. As far as touching surfaces at work, that's hard to avoid, isn't it? This is where bleach comes in handy. Who was it that carried around clothes with bleach in a ziplock baggie? Bleach actually will kill off viruses and stuff alcohol won't. A swipe across the computer keyboard a couple times a day, and a swipe on doorknobs and the arms of office chairs, and even the desktop helps keep the germ load under control.
Mema--You are right about the bleach thing, it probably would be more effective than alcohol on a plane. I may do that next time. Nose douching makes a big difference, I've noticed, now I just have to keep up the habit.
CynCyn--the best place to get a small bottle of hand sanitizer (pocket sized) is a dollar store. Then get a big bottle and keep refilling it. I've collected a whole bunch over time, keep one in my purse, one in my coat pocket, one or two in the car (talk about COD this time of year!), beside the easy chair, on the bedside stand, next to every box of kleenex. . . . You get the idea.
Cammy--good point about medical and financial POA. They are different, and someone needs to get a "durable" POA for the finances. A regular POA's authorization ends when the person dies, a durable POA allows the named POA to manage things after a death.
Wahine--Don't pay for lawyers to do POA forms! Not necessary! Every state recognizes notarized forms, even if they are hand written, and every state has forms you can download off the internet or get from the state Dept of Health, or from local hospitals, nursing homes, or doctor's offices. Most doctor's offices have staff who can witness and notarize such things for you, as do most banks and credit unions. I got my living will, POAs, and estate will witnessed and notarized at my credit union. Make sure each person named in the form gets a copy, and have a copy of the POAs put in the doctor's office records, too. That will save a lot of hassle in a crisis. Hooray for winning the gift cards!
CynCyn--Does Reese run around in circles when he needs to go potty? Sadie does that too!
BBBBernie--LOL! I think I've heard some of those in my traveling days!
Princess Glitter Sizzle's DOTD is The Sunday Funday
6 pack of beer,
1 can frozen Pink Lemonade concentrate.
Refill the concentrate can with vodka and add in.... Delicious but lethal.

Bernie hysterical, I never fly anymore so never hear anything I was laughing thru the whole thing.
Dork I'm glad u got so much help with all of this, and u have made u'r decisions as far as u can right now and I know u feel better about them too.
NM U are so right u can do more things without paying a lawyer than ever before--with all this computer stuff going on and things are much simpler than they make them sound. My DD1 is a Notory so my friends have used her over the years for their own put together legal stuff and they'r not paying anything instead of paying an attorney 500.00 an hr or whatever it is now.
When I worked I needed to know a lot of legal things with wills and possesion ofproperty etc. Didn't know a thing ever. But everyone would ask me all the time when things got really legl, finally I asked why do u come to me--I don't know and the answer was well u'r brother is the cheif judge, so my answer was if my brother was a surgeon would u ask me how to operte one someone????Well I got smart I cornered my nephew, who at the time was the Sttes attory for indiviuals who need looking after and my brother--And asked all my questions that I needed to know--and they did a great job of teaching me and explaining to me what I needed and those days I was smart and remembered everything so I brought my knowledge to work and did my thing, I was considered the authority on all legal issues--I cheated I know--but those days my mind was sharp now I know nothing anymore--I'm back where I started.
The vacuum is in my room now OMG do these 2 ever stop--my SIL is moving things around hahaha, I'm just sitting here.
Cyn is going to her parents and leaving for a well deserved vacation. YYAAAYYY I'm so happy.
And I miss Lori she better get back soon--wait til she sees how clean and organized the lounge is. She will be happliest/

Oh dear, I love both birds and dogs, but I would sure be PO'd if I came home to either of those scenarios!
Bernie, Those airline things were so funny. A recent flt we were on had a very funny flt attendant (small plane) and he called it the "Barbie Fun Jet" and also said that about "50 ways to leave your lover, but only 4 ways to leave the airplane". So they REALLY DO say those things, which makes it even funnier!!
Good advice for Dorkie, and I do remember printing all those forms out a couple of months ago when you first mentioned the need to do that, NM. Maybe longer ago than that. But I gave them to my dad, and I don't even know if he read them. Since he's a retired banker and likes things done by the book, for him it may be better to have the atty do all of that. I don't know...I'll see if I can pin him down on that.(NO not literally, girls....ya know I wouldn't harm my parents...lol).
How awesome, Cami, that your bro was the chief judge! WOW! I love your comments to people if they thought you would know as much as he did! Funny. Darn, that vacuum is going to wear out your flooring!!!! I need to get mine going. I love my dysons, as I can SEE how much chit it picks up, esp on the wool area rugs....seems like they are always shedding...well only when I vac them, then it seems like that. Maybe I will clean, today. There are still a few hrs in the day, right???
Okey Dokey....OH speaking of Dofey....mese tinks youse is using Reese's picture....ahh haa......lol. He sure is a cutie patootie huggable lovable furbabie! Gonna git going now.
Hugs to all, and I WILL join in the partay tonight!
