For those of us looking in from the outside, (yep a Canadian here) those words echo a lot of our sentiments.

Athena~we haven't heard anything yet from the job DH is most interested in, but he just applied on Friday. The interviewer was busy when Jim was there, and doesn't work again until Friday, so we're still hopeful.

The temp service he's been working for called yesterday to say the assignment he's been working was no longer needed, so they sent him to a different place today. It's a little farther away, but pays $1 more per hour. Also, he's working days for a change and I for one, LOVE IT!!!

Suzie, my son is on the radio right now and they are talking about Austrailia' weather.  Apparently your weather maps have had to add a new colour to indicate the higher temps.

Kam~I still have 2 more ACs. I just made it over the HUMP from Dec. 28. It was a bit more difficult than the first one. I hate the mid-week fog. I feel really disoriented and faint. It takes effort to hold my head up, but I'm stronger than that red poison!

blue ... those videos are scary!  Paranoid, irrational and obvious anger management issues.  Armed and friggin dangerous is what he is.  And ranting also against drugs that calm people down.  Do you suppose many, many doctors have tried to give him some of those?  Holy moly

This 'they want to take your guns' crap is more a marketing campaign than anything else.  Those pushing it from behind the scenes know darn well that nobody is going to be outlawing all guns.  But they use it to get people into a gun store - fire them up with fear and paranoia and they will buy.  Disgusting how $$$ pervert everything anymore.

Paula, you are doing well, believe it or not, if you are able to post.  Keeping engaged in life is difficult during tx, IMHO.

I am not well versed in Canadian gun laws as I, nor anyone I know, has a gun other than a hunting rifle.  Storage requirements are pretty strict.  There are restrictions on the sale of and ownership of amunition and magazine sizes as well as the enhancements and accessories.   It is difficult, but not impossible, to get handgun possession permits. And there are not a plethora of shops that are able to sell guns.

Call me crazy...I like it this way.

ooooohhh....linda - so good, sad, true, true, true - I am exited about Chuck Hagel being Sec. of Defense.  He KNOWS war, and with Kerry at State, that means TWO veterans of Viet Nam who KNOW THE EVILS OF WAR -will be in major positions in the Cabinet....very grateful for the integrity of the President of the United States. VERY.

When I see or read about the incredible hatred some have towards President Obama, I'm reminded of the following quote:

Athena - the AIG story reminds me of something that happenned back in the 1980's.  It was an enlightning view into the private sector and how lobbys work in our government.  Private timber companies bid on Federal timber, usually so many $ per 1 M board foot, back then.  They could carry a contract up to 5 years, sometimes with extensions, before they had to finish removing the timber.  Some time in the 80's we hit a deep recession, including the housing market and these timber companies were holding on to high priced contracts they bid up against competitors.  (The money from the purchase goes to the US Treasury, and if there was any profit some of it goes back to the originating county for schools and roads.)  The government didn't necessarily make money, but per law, government was required to provide an even flow of timber product.  The government paid for the road building, if necessary to get to the timber.

So all of these private companies were holding contracts they did not want to complete.  Their lobby groups presented to their Congressionals that they should be let out of these contracts because "the government allowed them to bid up the prices to insane levels."  I got this straight from the lobbyist.  They were let out of their contracts, no penalties, not having to pay for the cost of reprepaing the sale, etc.,  because big industry always prevails with our lawmakers when it comes to their pocketbooks.
