"Congress has done something quite extraordinary - nothing at all,”
For those of us looking in from the outside, (yep a Canadian here
) those words echo a lot of our sentiments. -
Hulk hands, Sandy. Big and green.
I have to take a vacay from oliticspay. My tiny pea brain and huge 3D hands can only handle so much. -
Athena~we haven't heard anything yet from the job DH is most interested in, but he just applied on Friday. The interviewer was busy when Jim was there, and doesn't work again until Friday, so we're still hopeful.
The temp service he's been working for called yesterday to say the assignment he's been working was no longer needed, so they sent him to a different place today. It's a little farther away, but pays $1 more per hour. Also, he's working days for a change and I for one, LOVE IT!!!
Blessings

Enjoyful, I'm still trying to figure out what kind of change in eyeglass prescription gives you Hulk hands. I'm due for an eye exam, think my prescription may have changed and hoping mine doesn't involve big green hands.
-
Good news for now, Paula. Fingers crossed for Friday!
three-D E - ninja cancer should give you ninja fingers, no? - aren't those thin.
Jingoism - the refuge of loser arguments.
-
I see big green elephants so don't worry E!

ROFL! Thread is on FIRE today.
-
First off, Paula - done with AC? Congratulations. Soon it will all be over and just a distant memory.
Athena - I haven't read your links on this AIG story, but on the face of it, it makes me sick. When the government bailed out GM, they were the ones that made the profits while holding their shares and that is how the loan was repayed to the US Citizens. AIG knows it's the kind of corporation that government can't let fail without destroying the lives of many retirees, so they're going for the gold. These managers come out of MBA school with one purpose in mind, making $$$.
Alexandria - sign me up for this alternative appreciation day.
P.S. Retirement is great so far! I can eat breakfast when I darn well want!
-
Suzie, my son is on the radio right now and they are talking about Austrailia' weather. Apparently your weather maps have had to add a new colour to indicate the higher temps.

-
Thinking of All in New South Wales!!! Stay safe!
-
Kam~I still have 2 more ACs. I just made it over the HUMP from Dec. 28. It was a bit more difficult than the first one. I hate the mid-week fog. I feel really disoriented and faint. It takes effort to hold my head up, but I'm stronger than that red poison!
Blessings

What type of gun laws do you have in Canada ?
i am guilty of having a gun in a National Park, which had recent bear attacks. 3 of us slept in a tent with "the gun", my sister slept in the car scared ! I am certain we had the gun in a Canadian National park. It was a long time ago.
I guess bears are attracted to menstruating women. My sister had her period so she slept in the car for a week !!

blue ... those videos are scary! Paranoid, irrational and obvious anger management issues. Armed and friggin dangerous is what he is. And ranting also against drugs that calm people down. Do you suppose many, many doctors have tried to give him some of those? Holy moly

This 'they want to take your guns' crap is more a marketing campaign than anything else. Those pushing it from behind the scenes know darn well that nobody is going to be outlawing all guns. But they use it to get people into a gun store - fire them up with fear and paranoia and they will buy. Disgusting how $$$ pervert everything anymore.
Happy Birthday Riley!
-
Paula ... that's what AC did to me too. Food and drink tasted either like cardboard or sewage. Head fog prevailed. The only thing that helped was really just giving in to it ... and knowing that it would end after several days. Hope you can enjoy your good days for awhile.
-
Paula, you are doing well, believe it or not, if you are able to post. Keeping engaged in life is difficult during tx, IMHO.
-
Hey, Blue, don't you worry either (re:elephants). I'm seeing opossums.
-
I am not well versed in Canadian gun laws as I, nor anyone I know, has a gun other than a hunting rifle. Storage requirements are pretty strict. There are restrictions on the sale of and ownership of amunition and magazine sizes as well as the enhancements and accessories. It is difficult, but not impossible, to get handgun possession permits. And there are not a plethora of shops that are able to sell guns.
Call me crazy...I like it this way.

-
Athena, Are they green?
-
Natalie, I suppose it depends on what we're wearing.

-
They're bird-like. Best I can say.

A cartoon that brings tears to my eyes:

-
Today will be the start of a week of high temps - we have had a heat wave in the south for the past week with bush fires raging in other states. One big problem is that the greenies have stopped controlled burn offs and there is a lot of fuel for fires all over the country. The main problem with the heat here is the high humidity, but yesterday seemed drier than we usually get. I can handle over 100 if it's dry but not when it's humid as well.

ooooohhh....linda - so good, sad, true, true, true - I am exited about Chuck Hagel being Sec. of Defense. He KNOWS war, and with Kerry at State, that means TWO veterans of Viet Nam who KNOW THE EVILS OF WAR -will be in major positions in the Cabinet....very grateful for the integrity of the President of the United States. VERY.
-
Wow, lots to catch up on! Just a few comments for now, though.
I agree that the AIG news is despicable.
Momine, I bet the Acropolis bathed in snow is an amazing sight!
Love George Carlin. Hysterical, but also wise:

-
When I see or read about the incredible hatred some have towards President Obama, I'm reminded of the following quote:

-
Belinda, yes it is. Today the snow did not stay on the ground though. If it had, it would have been a pretty sight.
-
Suzie - "the greenies." Not sure what that is exactly, but there's a remote chance i was the usa version of one of those. Lol...might have to adopt that term in retirement.
Paula - keep posting and walk walk walk, if you can. You sound like you are doing really well.
-
I think Suzie means environmentalists, when she says "the greenies," kind of like our Green Party.
Edited to fix a spelling error.
-
Athena - the AIG story reminds me of something that happenned back in the 1980's. It was an enlightning view into the private sector and how lobbys work in our government. Private timber companies bid on Federal timber, usually so many $ per 1 M board foot, back then. They could carry a contract up to 5 years, sometimes with extensions, before they had to finish removing the timber. Some time in the 80's we hit a deep recession, including the housing market and these timber companies were holding on to high priced contracts they bid up against competitors. (The money from the purchase goes to the US Treasury, and if there was any profit some of it goes back to the originating county for schools and roads.) The government didn't necessarily make money, but per law, government was required to provide an even flow of timber product. The government paid for the road building, if necessary to get to the timber.
So all of these private companies were holding contracts they did not want to complete. Their lobby groups presented to their Congressionals that they should be let out of these contracts because "the government allowed them to bid up the prices to insane levels." I got this straight from the lobbyist. They were let out of their contracts, no penalties, not having to pay for the cost of reprepaing the sale, etc., because big industry always prevails with our lawmakers when it comes to their pocketbooks.

Kam - We have a political party here called the Australian Green Party. "Greenies" are crazy about protecting the environment. Now, I am a bit of a greenie adn I love wales etc BUT the Australian bush can get very very dry and usually controlled burn offs are conducted in cooler months to remove fuel (grasses) for fires in the hotter months. When this is not done the risk and intesity of bush fires is so much greater. We have had terrible loss of life in past years due to such bad fires, but we mustn't upset the greenies.
This is an interesting article:
