Just got home from a family Christmas celebration.  It was with DH's side of the family.  They are avid hunters and shooters, even sent each of their sons off to Ted Nugent's camp when they turned 12 I think it was, so I was interested to hear their opinions on gun control.  First off, they were surprised and appalled at Wayne LaPierre's speech.  They want high capacity guns/military type weapons to be restricted to law enforcement and the military and the gun show loophole to be closed.  They thought the idea of having retired military/NRA volunteers in schools was ridiculous.  I am sensing a sea change.

This liberal really fit in with DH's family this year.  Smile

Blue, I'm glad you got Wendel home...what a cutie!

River Rat-I'm hoping for the same tomorrow at my husband's side of the family. I am definitely a minority there. Maybe the deaths of 20 children were horrific enough to startle some people into reality.

RR & Mary, I remember talking to DH some years ago that I thought there should be mandatory registration of all guns and he was quite opposed. He loathed the NRA even then, but he was not in favor of registering all guns. He has completely changed his mind now. In addition to banning semiautomatics & extended magazines, he wants all guns registered, licenses for gun ownershiprequired, as well as mandatory liability insurance and a criminal history check. He is done with unaccountability for the guns flowing through the streets. Regulate guns as heavily as cars are regulated. He was never, ever a gun nut (it is a tool to him, not an idol), but the carnage is no longer tolerable. People do evolve.

I sure hope so, River Rat. I always feel a little tense at gatherings with that side of the family. They know I'm a "liberal" and my father in law often says things just to try and get me going. My kids are liberals too, and there's always that fine line between disagreeing with their grandfather yet respecting his seniority, if you know what I mean. My husband usually agrees with me, but he doesn't like to rock the boat. I'm sure there will be the obligatory jabs at Obama. Sigh. Nothing says Christmas like poking fun at each others' politics.

Well, I didn't convert them to loving Obama...but this was pretty big in my book.

HL, our DHs sound very similar on this issue.

You guys can have my "white stuff."  I have plenty to spare - over 2 feet, and a 4 foot x 4 foot packed berm at my driveway entrance.  Apparently, I'm "snowed in" as I tried to shovel for the first time, with my new foobs, and it just feels so odd.  The guy I usually hire is limping from the snow he shoveled and blew for me yesterday (another 2 feet).  I'm not use to this at all....is this foob thing just in my head?  I know my strength isn't what it was, but given they've tucked those implants under my snow shoveling muscles,  it just scared me to strain them....we're talking about an 1 hour of shoveling the berm and another hour, or less, on the driveway, depending if I use my snow blower or not (it takes some strength, to maneuver too).

RR - sounds like good news to me.  What LaPierre proposed is pretty irrational...not sure how most would buy into it.

No thanks Kam.  We got a dusting of the white stuff so I'm happy with that, don't need more.

Sorry, I don't have any info re the foobs.  I'm of the "fabulously flat" variety.

Kam, foobs under your pecs make for difficult shoveling. I can't remember how new thay are, but over time you should be able to strengthen the pecs sufficiently for that kind of work out. Make sure you're using your glutesd and legs for the lifting, though, or you'll ruin your back. Go for smaller shovel-loads. Do you find that your foobs get really cold?? I do not miss those things. So glad I was able to change out for SGAP/real flesh. But my pecs have never really recovered. Getting myofascial work on them now because my upper back is so tight...

Anne - thanks for the reply.  I wasn't sure how much was psychological, or how much of feeling I can't do this was being protective.  I've wondered (and my PS never mentioned this, nor was I smart enought to ask) how much of stretching these muscles was going to weaken them.  She took "the thickest pectoralis muscles she's ever seen" to mush!  No matter how much I try to use my legs and glutes, I can still feel the pecs engaging and it feels just weird.

I woke up to a blizzard this morning and now I'm sure I will be snowed in, yet another day, atleast til I can find someone with big equipmemt to move this snow.   It's starting to not be fun and going from being someone that could do it myself, if I have to, to this, is not a happy place.

Bah Humbug.  Ok - things could be much much worse - like we could be without power too!Cool

These were taken at dusk on the east side (Hilo side) of the island.  Haven't taken many pictures at all.... but thought I'd share these two.

Kam, stay as warm as you can.  The muscles feel weird.  I cannot remember if you have in TE's or have implants.  I did the DIEP reconstruction and am glad that my chest muscles feel normal again.  Keep warm - stop shoveling snow!!!

Hey Barb, that looks a little bit like Wendel! CUTE!!!

I have a 15 year old Boston Terrier/Pug, named Dandy. He has doggy dementia, and I'm afraid when he dies, I'll have to bury DH with him. They've been joined at the hip since Dandy was 5 weeks old. My baby is a 3 year old daschund, named Augustus, affectionately called Auggie doggy. I've tried to post his picture on hear via iPad, but its always upside down.

    Blessings

Paula, I've had the upside down issue with my iPad too.  When that has happened I've synced to my computer, rotated, emailed the newly fixed image to myself and then posted to my PhotoBucket account.  Convoluted, but it works - or at least it has for me.

Kam, I know what you mean. When the hydro (Canadian electricity) goes out, the first hour is kind of fun.  The second hour is "I'm ready for the lights to come back now".  The third hour is "enough already!!"

    Hi Everyone,

What's everyone doing for Christmas?  We're having my sis and her husband over tomorrow for dinner.  Tim is fixing a ham and I'll make the side dishes.  He's a great cook, so the ham should be wonderful.  It will just be the two of us on Christmas day.

Shana .. That's a cute picture of Wendel!

River .. I got your note .. thanks for the link.  I'll look into it.  I've checked into something similar before called Elance where you bid on jobs.

Gumby .. Glad you're enjoying the Big Island.  I love it.  Haven't been there in a number of years, but a long time ago when I was married to the ex, we owned property on the island.  The property was on the Hilo side.  The Kona side is lots of fun too.

I better get a move on it .. need to finish getting the kitchen and table decorated for dinner tomorrow.

    Merry Christmas to all,

    love

    Bren
