All I want for Christmas is more dancing with the stable boy, but I'd throw him over in a minute for Reggie or NED!

Been redoing the kitchen and of course it isn't ready. The countertop people are behind, so No countertop, sink or dishwasher. The refrigerator is in the living room with the microwave so no place for even our small fake Christmas tree. I put a couple boards on the cabinets for counter space. We plugged in the new stove and come hell or high water, tomorrow we'll have a turkey, stove top stuffing, and canned cranberry sauce.

    Merry Christmas to all.

Merry Christmas to all. The candy is made the pie and ice cream is bought, the presents are wrapped. The house is picked up. Midnight mass tomorrow and then eight kids under eight here with parents and aunts and uncles to unwrap presents at Grandma's house. As a really good friend says, life is good.

    Yes, it is, Rosemary.

Last two presents wrapped. Forgoing Christmas Eve mass at a ridiculously high church Anglican service in Penn. Ave. Too atheistic to survive 1.5 hours of sermons, and too blind to see one of my nephews who is in the choir....but....will be picked up and taken to my sister's tonight, where Christmas will be celebrated tomorrow. Life can be really good!

    Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, thread mates!!

Thank you all for being who and how you are, for the friendship and warmth and love. You enrich my life immeasurably. I think of Alpal and KK and wish their loved ones peace.

Help!!! I had to go and have a nap - my Mother was driving me crazy. One good thing - we skyped with my brother near Seattle - good for Mum to see him. She also got to see Annie's baby for the first time over Skype. Way too hot here - food was yummy but too much of it and now I have to put up with my mother for the night (Steve's idea). We're going to a 60th birthday party tomorrow and then it's back to work for me.

Merry Christmas to all!  This is the first time I've had a chance to go on line - have a housefull and they've been hogging the computer.

I finally hear DH stirring -I've been up for an hour.  What a change from the years when the kids were bouncing on my bed at 6 a.m.  Now I'm the early riser.

May your day be merry and bright.

Merry Christmas, all! Recovering from a norovirus here -- now up to 6 lbs lost (the hard way). But have turned the corner and am feeling quite chipper - even had a cinnamon roll without disagreement!

Presents opened, cats cuddling, fire burning, everything is lovely in sunny Northern Virginia!

Thank you to all my friends here who make life better, happier and more fun. I love our exchange of ideas, the sharing of triumphs and sorrows, and our plans to make the world a better place. Thank you for giving your time, attention and love each other so freely. Thank you for choosing to spend your time and your care here with us. I am truly grateful to be among such wonderful friends. Love to you all!

Oh HL, I feel the same way - sorry you've been laid low by the dreaded norovirus - but glad that you're feeling better.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all my threadmates - it's snowless and not too cold in this part of Canada but understand all heck will break loose tomorrow night through Thursday - I LOVE snow!

We got a dusting of about an inch of snow last night and I was thrilled to be able to sweep the snow off my front walk because yesterday the doctor said I am sufficiently healed to be able to ditch the sling for my shoulder. It's a week or so before I drive again but this is all good steps forward.

Suzie - sorry you aren't enjoying time with your mother. I'd be very greatful to have time with my mother again - she fell ill just before Christmas and died in early January several years ago. Often I look at my children and grandchildren and know how much she would have enjoyed seeing them grow up.

Thanks to all here for your caring and understanding.

Lassie - good to hear you're healing nicely - I agree completely regarding mothers - mine passed away when I was 25 and even these many years later I wish I could talk to her "just one more time".

Forgot to mention this last night.  When my DD saw Wendel, she disagreed with the name we chose.  She's gonna call him Spartacus.  Too funny.

Kad -- That is the nicest, kindest thing yo could ever say to all of us!

Back from Toronto where we feasted royally last evening, and now the presents are opened, the cats are playing in the wrappings/boxes/strings, and I must tell you that my best present this year, (having received my initial Dx 5 years ago on Dec. 21) is that I'm here with my wonderful family and my wonderful cyberfriends!

And thank you to BCO for introducing me to you all!  YOU ARE THE BEST!

Merry Christmas!/Happy Holidays!  I wanted to post something here that I think most can identify with - including the ladies on the other side of the fence.  It's a poem my Uncle Bud wrote many years ago:

    Tis the Day After Christmas

Tis the day after Christmas and I must confess-

The house is all rumpled--and sure is a mess.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
And now they're all over the tables and chairs.
    The toys-you walk on to get through the house;
    The noise sure is som
    ething-not quiet like the mouse.

    The tinsel is crooked, some bulbs just broke;
But keep yourself calm-don't end up with a stroke.
The children are romping-they play without care-
While I stand here shaking and pulling my hair.

    But, there is a blessing-so, be of good cheer;
Christmas is with us -- but once each year.

    12-26-65
    My Uncle Bud

I'm sorry for venting about my mother, but we have never been close and it's all about her and always has been. Went to bed early last night to escape. I miss my Dad like you girls miss your mothers. He passed at 65 - now that I'm 60 I realise it was too young.

Woke up to rain - yeah!!! My garden was looking sad yesterday, so now I don't have to water and the pool will get a much needed boost. Poppy not happy at all as usual when it's wet.

I'm so glad you all had a nice Xmas.

An antidote to The Twelve Days of Christmas:

The first day after Christmas my true love and I had a fight,

And so I chopped the pear tree down and burned it just for spite.

Then with a single cartridge, I shot that blasted partridge,

My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

The second day after Christmas, I pulled on the old rubber gloves,

And very gently wrung the necks of both the turtle doves.

My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

    The third day after Christmas, my mother caught the croup;

I had to use the three Frech hens to make some chicken soup.

The four calling birds were a big mistake,

    for their language was obscene.

The five gold rings were completely fake and they turned my fingers green .

The sixth day after Christmas, the six laying geese wouldn't lay,

I threw them out when I found out the whole darn bunch were gay!

On the seventh day what a mess I found,

All seven of the swimming swans had drowned.

My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

The eighth day after Christmas, before they could suspect,

I bundled up the eight maids a milking, nine pipers piping, Ten ladies dancing, 'leven lords a leaping, Twelve drummers drumming and sent them back collect.

I wrote my true love, "We are through, love",

Your gifts were nothing but a farce,

You can take them all and shove them up your ar*e".

She's gone!! I had to suggest she should miss the traffic if she left when I suggested it and it's stopped raining so it will be safer.

I had to sit there this morning and listen to her say that she knows all about raising children that don't turn out how you hoped - WELL my brother and I are both long term married, we both have 2 lovely children - mine are both university educated, his are still at school but extrememly bright like mine. We both have good careers (he's a VP at Expedia for god's sake), we both own our own homes - gee we really turned out poorly.

I'm leaving the country next Christmas.

Suzie ... she was perhaps hoping for drunken scoundrels to party with?  Sometimes you just have to laugh I guess ... or scream.

Several days back I shot off my mouth that we don't have snow in central Indiana any more.  When will I learn not to taunt Mother Nature that way?!  Blizzard warning for tomorrow.  Last I saw was 10-15 inches of blowing snow.  Yikes ... luckily none of us have to go anywhere.

Relaxing now after the flurry of busy.  Hope everybody had a wonderful day!

    RR and Linda ... LOL!

Lassie ... glad to hear you can ditch the sling!

Me too on how nice it is to come here and visit with all you wonderful women about anything and everything.  Kiss

Thanks Athena - you would have to meet her to understand. I know shé's 84 but she has always been like this. There's no way I'll have her here next Xmas - she will probably not be safe to drive (1 hour). Don't know if she made it home safe, no call so far.

Steve is in a funk, all because our son didn't say Merry Christmas to him when we were skyping. I tried to explain he had to rush to the kitchen to see to something, but he won't listen - MEN!!!

At least Mum got to see both great grand children.

Merry Christmas, all!! I loved the last 48 hours but am glad to be snuggled in bed listening to the sounds of the dishwasher! The grand kids were so much fun and no drama since youngest son wasn't here. He said we were allowed to visit him in rehab today but with cooking and having everyone here, we just couldn't work it out. I think it's good for him to know it's not all about him!! Chemo tomorrow but not early so I get to sleep in. And I agree .... This thread is a fun place to come and I appreciate all of you.

    ((((((((((((((((((((((suzie))))))))))))))))))))

I'm one of the lucky ones.  My mom is 86 and has always been my friend more than my mother.  She's in the early stages of Alzheimers and is deteriorating.  I'm her only daughter though so maybe that's why.  My dad was a tyrant, but a man of honour.  He is there for my mom now and was my source of strength and support during all my health issues and divorce....gasp.....something that doesn't happen in an Italian Family.

    Content changed:

Already thinking about next Christmas. Perhaps I will take an exotic trip to Africa, or just enjoy the snow in Switzerland, or have a traditional historic Christmas in Finland.

Thanks girls - it would better if my brother lived in this country and could share the burden.

We just had ham and tomato sandwiches for lunch - yummy leftover ham. We're off to a party this afternoon even though I would rather sleep - work tomorrow. This must be the first Xmas in years where I have worked between Xmas and New Year. I'm going to take some left over lollies, cake and shortbread in to work for the boys to feast on.
