What are you doing for fun??

Chele, love the picture! I'm spending my last night of a week long vacation in Ireland. Have had a wonderful time. Saw lots of beautiful scenery (dingle peninsula and cliffs of moher), picturesque villages, rip roaring pubs, castles, friaries, cathedrals, sheep, stone fences, friendly people, Burial mounds from 3000 b.c. Didn't see: lots more castles, cathedrals, friaries. One week wasn't enough but it's a start. Found a restaurant in blarney with my family name (Mackey's restaurant). Unfortunately it was closed but. I did get some pictures of me standing out front. Ireland, check!

We're having a breath of spring blow through here, temps are predicted in the mid 50s.  Sunny, too.  So, i'm definitely going to go for a walk today.  Today should be great.

Glenna, I'm so glad you enjoyed that trip.  Sounds heavenly.  I notice you didn't see any friaries, did you see any fairies?  They are called leprauchauns, in Ireland, right?

Have a safe trip home and post lots of pictures. 

LOL @ SUE! I now have SUCH a mental image of this woman knocking people out of the way to get on an elevator with ducks! You're so funny!I've never been to Europe, but I would SURE knock people down for the chance to get to your corner of the world. Too bad there's not a star trek kind of machine to turn us into specks and re-materialize us on the other side of the world so we could change venue's for a couple of weeks. Oh, and in the process, it could eliminate our cancer and make us rich and gorgeous, and, and, and ....... (well, as long as I'm dreaming.....)

Surf dreams - I agree with you totally. Bring on the star trek machine, both for the travel element and the cancer elimination!!

Of course we would have to find something different to talk about on here - but I'm sure we would manage.......!!

Funnily enough, my treat to myself from the Peabody Hotel was a mallard dressed as Elvis in a white jumpsuit and cape! You have to be me really to understand! I'm quite normal really!

I went to Washington to spend a few days at my brothers farm. I "mucked" the horse corrals, fed the horses (11), goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and sheep. It was great fun!



His wife and I spent an afternoon mending the fences where the horses were. One horse (Danny) was all over me! Almost to the point of molestation! (have you ever been molested by a horse?) My dear SIL was on the other side of the fence and I asked her, "what is the problem with this horse?!". She laughed and said, "So sorry, I forgot his carrots, I always hide carrots in my coat pockets and he hunts for them ... he is just looking for carrots!"



It was a great three days of therapy. No thought of my cancer crossed into my conscience thoughts!

Those pesky squirrels are a problem with bulbs. No deer here in the city, so have no idea about them. Could you cover the pots with chicken wire to protect the bulbs until the springtime? Optimism looks good on you.

Soleil, no fairies but we did see a beautiful rainbow .... Couldn't find the pot of gold, either. So, I crossed Ireland off my bucket list but want to go again so I'll have to put it back on my list! Sherry, your trip to Washington made me laugh ... You know, the part about being molested by a horse!!!! I want to plant bulbs by my mailbox. We have squirrels and deer but I'm going to do it anyway! I will post some pictures but probably not til after thanksgiving. I thought I had another week ..... Panic! I'm babysitting all day Wednesday for my 10 month old granddaughter so doubt I will get any pies made! Happy week, everyone! BTW, because they don't have thanksgiving in Ireland they have already decorated for Christmas!

Kathy, we plan to follow a Thanksgiving tradition established over the last three years. On Thursday morning we will drive to a Delaware beach town where friends have a house, help make a holiday dinner, take a few walks together in town and along the boardwalk, and drive home Saturday. Whether we actually do this or not depends on our aging cat, who has not defecated in her litter box for over 24 hours. This worries me. She's acting normal in every other way. I have been all over the house searching for cat poop in unauthorized places and have found none. Will call the vet at 9:00 a.m. If she is sick, we won't go to the shore.

We'll be having between 50 and 60 (yes, all family) I found a recipe for Pumpkin Bread Pudding that has really great reviews, so going to try that. And Pumpkin biscuits. (I put up about 15 quarts of pumpkin this year, may as well start using them.



Tomorrow is a girl's luncheon with nieces, aunts, moms, etc. at a wonderful little "girly" cafe in town.



I'll start on the cookies today. One old family recipe, Anise Cookies, needs to set for 4 weeks for the flavors to complete. So they are made around Thanksgiving, and if I hide them well, they are available and ready for Christmas.



For my granddaughters Advent Calendar this year I did charm bracelets. I bought a permanent calendar several years ago that has small drawers for each day. Last weekend I bought all the different charms. Need to wrap them and send them in the next few days. I hope they like this idea.

This year will be so much different. Since my mom died last Feb. nobody was really in the mood to do a big thing at their house, so we'll go out to eat at the local Golden Corral for lunch and then whoever wants to can come bac to my house and watch football or play games. I think it will be less stressful and more fun to do something so much different than usual.

Glad to hear it Tina! Most of us can sympathize with the poor dog! . And your holiday plans sound awesome...glad you're not cancelling. Hoping you all have a good holiday.

Yay! Another horse lover! Hi Melizzard!

Such s beautiful day . Dh and I went to walk 9 holes of golf. i had D 2x and finally had to quit on hole 8

We ended up with 47 for dinner, and about 10-12 dropping in later for dessert. It was not at my house! (not near big enough) My DH's younger brother has a large house, and the "formal living room" is designated for family gatherings. It is 20 by 30 feet. He sets up tables that seat 10 each. All with nice wooden chairs and table cloths. (It looks like a restaurant!) The dinner is buffet style around the formal dinning room, with the dessert table in the middle. We had sooooo much food this year!



My bread pudding with the caramel sauce was to DIE FOR! OMGosh! It is on the Epicurious cookbook sight that came with my iPad. I used a "Cinnamon Burst" bread that we found at the local bakery. (and added some really great Costa Rican rum to both the custard and the caramel sauce) The pumpkin biscuits turned out good also. Just substituted pumpkin (not pie mix) for part of the liquid and used Bisquick. Brushed with egg whites and covered in cinnamon sugar.



Finished the charms for the grand daughters. They are really going to have fun with them. Jo Ann's had all the jewelry stuff on sale yesterday at half price. So I bought necklaces to match the bracelets. They can have changing necklaces, and design their own to their heart's desires. (These are for the Advent calendar. A different charm for each day.) I wish I had known they were going to be on sale. Would have saved me a bundle ...



May head out to the Antique Fair in Boise, if I can talk my DH into it.



Bought a keyboard case, wireless, for my iPad. My grand daughter wanted one for Christmas, and when I saw it, I decided I needed one also. It is awesome! Works GREAT! Can be found at Target, Brookstone, etc. Well worth the expense!



Gotta go get busy on something or the day will be gone...
