Tillycat, Glad you are having fun!  Sometimes, you just have to take the meds  :0  Then go enjoy.  I do that myself sometimes.  I think that at this point, its just fine.  Enjoying life is important.

For My Girls, My daughter used to live in Burbank.  We went to Disney often.  Its fun .  Did you have one of those very fattening, huge awsome looking pineapple whips?  I've never had one!  Well, I mooch some off of my grandaughter, from time to time, but never had my own.  Which rides did you brave?

    Tilly,

Hope your trip to Croatia continues to be fun. You asked a q about the wheelchair. I rented it at the hotel for the entire duration.

    Soleil,

I did have my own pineapple whip. It was great. My new rides were splash mountain, grizzly bear and gladiator springs. Not brave enough to do California screaming as I do not like to go upside down in roller coasters.

    Sandilee,

Your vacation sounds great. Congratulations on the upcoming wedding.

DH and I are headed to Taos and Santa Fe for Labor Day Weekend.  We have reservations for a hot air balloon ride over the Rio Grande gorge that sounds spectacular.  While we're in the area we'd like to visit museums and take a few short hikes. We plan on the Georgia O'Keefe Museum but if anyone has ideas for other sights in the vicinity, please let me know.  I'm a flatlander by birth (Long Island) and inclination, but we'd like to try some easy hikes in scenic areas.

Hey gals, still can't get enough of this thread and the bucket list thread, sharing stories of fun and good times, in spite of stupid cancer.

This weekend I met up with a group of women cancer survivors in the Cascade mountains for hiking and good times.  These amazing gals did a 24 mile hike over 3 days in the backcountry (how I wish I could have joined them, but treatments have not allowed it), anyway, I met them at the end of their hike in the remote town of Stehekin, WA, which is only accessible by boat, hiking, or float plane.  We camped overnight at the most amazing little ranch cabin, shared laughs and stories...it was the best!  As always, pictures are worth more than words...

Beautiful scenery, 8-state road trip, hot-air balloons, wow!

Had a fun garden party for my senior exercise group after our class. Love an excuse to drink something bubbly in the morning.

Looks like a beautiful place and a great group, Nancy! They are all quite amazing...24 mile hike...wow. Glad you got to meet up with them.

When I have to return to MDAnderson for my clinical trial third week of Sept., my DH and I will leave from there (Houston) and go to Florida for a week. Going to stay on the beach in Ft Lauderdale. We have some very good friends in Florida whom we will spend time with while there. Looking forward to seeing them and having some fun. Maybe just forget about the Big C for awhile.

Heading to Washington, DC this weekend to attend a family wedding, well technically my husband's family. My husband's brother had two sets of twins just under two years apart, and one of the second twins is getting married. I wish I could say that I was a favorite "aunt" but we were not really given access to these kids as they grew up. The twins' father believe that his brother and I were evil since we were musicians.

Though the family has chilled out about all of this music stuff, and we are more welcome now, the opportunities to be a special part of the children's lives has past.

On a good note, I have lost some weight, and the dress I purchased to wear for the wedding doesn't look too bad! I don't suspect that I will have any pictures of this trip. Such a well-photographed city, I don't see the point in carrying around a camera.

We are spending an extra 3 days in DC. I have only been to DC for a conference so I saw absolutely nothing, so I am going to be one of the hourdes of tourist walking the mall looking for water. I am a little concerned about the amount of walking I will want to do. If I can't keep up, we can buy a tour bus ticket.

    Susan,

Here are a few off-the-beaten tourist path suggestions from a virtual DC native. They're never mobbed and they're all free!

Head to the wonderful National Portrait Gallery and the Museum of American Art in Penn Quarter, several blocks north of the Mall. They are my favorite museums, and linked together by a gorgeous glass-roofed atrium which is a low-key place to sit and regroup. When you get hungry, there are many good restaurants in the immediate vicinity: Oyamel, Jaleo and Zaytina are standouts.

The Folger Shakespeare Library and the Library of Congress are both on Capitol Hill. They always have interesting exhibits and are never crowded. The stunning U.S. Botanical Garden is immediately south of the Capitol grounds.

The huge Udvar-Hazy Center of the Air and Space Museum is near Dulles Airport, just a short trip from the city. It has amazing holdings that include the Enola Gay, the Discovery space shuttle, satellites, the Blackbird spy plane, the Concord and much more. You can self-guide, but I recommend getting a free personalized tour from one of the docents, most of whom are ex-military and commercial pilots.

I could go on and on. I love my adopted city and hope you have a fabulous time on your visit!

Tina, You should publish your tips.  Maybe you could be the next frommer  ;)

I have only so many days, that is what I tell my self every morning.  This morning, I  needed to tell myself that a few extra times.  I have only so many days so I'm going do whatever I can to fill them up with joy.

Today, I'm going to see my daughter down in Chicago.  We''re meeting at a mall halfway.  Its always great to see her and my two little grandkids.  I need alot of hugs today.

Well, we are back. I have new shoes since we walked SO many miles, my trusty Birkenstocks cracked and gave me blisters on the bottom of my feet.

Wishing I had read Tina's notes, since I was mighty disappointed not to see the Shuttle. But backing up, we arrived Saturday morning at 8am and found some breakfast at Union Station. Enjoyed the Capital building before walking far too long for an orange subway stop. Cruised to Foggy Bottom and checked into the hotel. The wedding was in a lovely church and the reception was at a function room with the most glorious view of DC. I admit it. I was dreading this wedding. But, the children of Mr. Musicians are Evil have turned out great!! I had the best time talking with them, and I expect that they will all begin to visit Boston. They assumed that they would not be welcome because that is what Daddy Evil had told them. [argh!] The bride is a smart girl, her parents were lovely, my husband's only invited first cousin is one of my favorite people... I had a ball!

Sunday we were joined by our daughter and her boyfriend, who she now introduces as her partner, at the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods. We packed a lunch and walked directly South to the Lincoln Memorial. We went through the Vietman Memorial [man was that hard to see all those names], the WW2 monument and then cut over to do the loop around the tidal basin. So much fun to see the cherry trees in real life, then MLK, FDR [one of my favorite sights of all] and Jefferson. We had our lunch at one of the many park benches. Many well-trained squirrels competed for our scraps.

Then the walk to the Holocaust Museum. That was it for me! My feet were blistered on the bottoms in three different places, so we headed back to Foggy Bottom. Though we had planned on going to Ris for dinner, none of us wanted such a fancy dinner so we went to Circa. Close to the hotel so we could all take a refresher shower, it was perfect for how we felt.

Monday I switched to my "dress" sandals, cheap $30 footwear, and we were off again. Air & Space, Castle, gardens, then the Native American which I loved. We ate at the Mitsuma cafe which was perfect, and delicious! I bought both Native American cookbooks in the gift store. I must make that sweet potato soup. My life will not be fulfilled without it. By now, the tops of my feet had broken blisters from my cheepo shoes, so we headed back to Union Station and bought a new pair of rugged sandals at the Comfort Shoe store. We then walked to the White House testing these new shoes to the max. We just bought some bread and cheese from the Whole Foods for dinner and collapsed into bed.

Tuesday, armed with bandaids on my feet, we went to the American Art museum. Tina is right. This is a really nice museum. The courtyard was the perfect place to pull out our bottle of water and rest our feet. Lunch was our big splurge meal. Though I really wanted to go to Jaleo, I have a huge chef-crush on José Andres, my husband really preferred "that modern Indian place." So that is where we went- Rasika. I chose the one in the Penn Qtr since they have a tandori oven. Boy did we splurge! We started with the Lamb roll [roti] and Palak Chaat. The Chaat was one of the most amazing things I have ever eaten. This will not be recreated at home, I am afraid. Crispy chickpea flour coated spinach with yogurt, tamarind date chutney... oh my goodness! Our mains were the tandori mixed grill, dal makhani and the Indian eggplants with some rice. I would go to this restaurant regularly if I lived in the area. It was so very delicious, complex flavors that were properly balanced.

Back to the hotel to pick up our luggage and we were off to the airport. Sadly, there was WEATHER and we were delayed over two hours. Thank goodness we had had a good lunch. Neither of us had to succumb to the paltry offerings in our terminal.

I had so dreaded this trip, and we had the very best time. As always, glad to be back in my own house. Nothing beats your own bed for a good night's sleep.

Nancy:  What a beautiful place!!  You never cease to amaze me with all your adventures!!  :)

Susan:  Nice to hear about your trip to DC!

We just booked a trip to DC last night ourselves!!  It will be for a long weekend in early October. We have been once before, but it was a short trip and we did not get to see it all.  DH is super excited!!  He loves history and stuff so this is great for him.  I'm excited too, but more excited to see the happiness on his face!!

My only worry is scans....I'll get results the week before we leave, so either it will be a celebratory trip or possibly a bit clouded with emotions.  I'm trying to think positive thoughts and not worry yet.

The one thing I want to do for sure is take a tour of all the monuments at night.  They are so pretty all lit up!!

I decided that no matter how worried or slightly nauseous I get, I am still going to plan for fun.  I mean, I just have to!

So, this Sunday, I'm going to meet my oldest daughter and her baby kids down at Lambs Farm.  They will ride ponies and pet animals.  And we will have a old fashioned comfort food lunch.  Weather is predicted as 72 and sunny.

Next Thursday, I go out to sunny calli to be with my other daughter and Isa, my 14 year old grandaughter.  Can't wait for that.

So, decided had I not looked at those scans, how would I feel?  I'd feel excited for these two events.  So, I decided to stop being a baby and get out there and have some fun

I have tried to focus on nutrition since my dx. I always ate well but within healthy parameters and living in the SF Bay Area , was quite a foodie, taking special advantage of the offerings of our ethnically diverse population. I live in a neighborhood that has a large SE Asian and Mexican population. Mexicans love taqerias. Not the crunchy Old El Paso variety with ground beef and powdered taco seasoning, but the real deal you'd find on street carts and hole in the wall restaurants in Mexico. I was starving when I got home from work last night and younger dd was over. We headed to La Costa ( as it's name implies, seafood is a specialty). Three tacos de carne asada, two tacos al pastor, a large coctel de camarrones and a half dozen huge ostiones. Lots of lime wedges and Tapatio sauce. Yum, I've spent enough time in Mexico to know that this is the real deal. We brought this feast home. Treated myself to a glass of wine and some Ben&Jerry's frozen Cherry Garcia yogurt for dessert . I don't eat like this often but it was delicious and fun! If you ever find yourself in San Jose, La Costa Taqueria on Alum Rock Ave is fabulous. A little English works, a lot of Spanish works better. Off to Oakland today, to spend the night with dd, SIL and my sweet baby. Younger dd and fiancé coming over tomorrow for a belated b-day celebration for me. This is fun!

due to spine meds I can't walk and have a small electric scooter to get about. I Love racing other scooter users in the local park, or ever chasing my grang children. This aways causes great laughter as they can all run faster that my scooter can move -but granny has to win.

We are  planning a visit to disney land Paris, next October. We can't afford the insurance for visiting USA, plus we wil be going by self drive- so no weight limit for the bags. LOL

On Monday we set off for a two week break in Harrogate, Yorkshire , England.

In 2021 my DD wil be married 25 years and five weeks later we will celebrate our 50th. So the four of use are planning a big joint party, with as many of the original wedding guests as can be tracked down. I'm really looking forward to it.

That sounds so good.  I'm just lying here not feeling to good right now but I think I want to get up and go to a Mexican Restaurant.  How delicious.

and Harvey, you are so much fun you make embarrassed of being a dolt.  Racing scooters!  Don't get a ticket.

Stupid allergies are attacking me today.  Tomorrow I have big plans for a day in the sunshine.  Much as I hate fall, I love days like this.

    Susan,

What fun. We went shopping for my younger dd's wedding dress about two months ago. I went, older dd and baby, future MIL, future SIL.It was just like an episode of Say Yes to the Dress, without drama or cattiness. Her dress was not supposed to be in until December but it came in early. Since the wedding is not until June alterations are not scheduled until April. It's hanging on the back of my spare bedroom door. Fun to take a peek at it now and then. Enjoy the shopping!

In the past three weeks, I have had meetups with three women who share our BC story. Though eating out this often will cause me to gain weight, I find the time I spend with them to be very special. When I think about having BC, I try to remember how special the people who I have met along the way are. I never, ever, would have met these women if not through our shared diagnosis.

All three are being treated at Dana Farber, so I can hang with them anytime they are here being treated. So, I have tried three new restaurants, had three fascinating meetings, and found laughter and friendship each time.

I am taking my 'fun' anyway I can get it! And friendship is the best kind of fun.

    Susan,

    How is your hand?

I'm getting ready to take a walk today.  The sun is shining but its cold.  Autumn is not my favorite season.  Hate the creeping in cold!  So many of my customers tell me how much they love love love autumn.  I secretly think ...are you nuts?  However, I must admit the colors are breathtaking right now.  Many of the leaves are turning gold, rust and red.  Kind of takes my breath away.  So, today, I'm going to put on a sweater and take a long walk.

Such a great day today. Went on a zipline tour with a group of friends today. Wasn't sure I would make it. Spent yesterday on the couch for most of the day, but woke up this a.m. feeling pretty good. Awesome feeling - flying over the trees along the bluffs by the Mississippi River. Love flying. Great time with wonderful friends.  ;-)

OMG!!  A zipline tour? That sounds like so much fun surfdreams!  I'm going to have to look into that.  I did a zipline ride at the State Fair and loved it.

Lately I've been riding a lot.  I found a great riding buddy.  She and I are going through our second childhoods on horseback.

My Greatniece is being raised by my SIL (her Grandma).  Grandma is my husbands sister, and is stage IV with mets to her liver.  She has been Stage IV for over 11 years.  My Greatniece helps Grandma a lot, and helps take care of her brother a lot.

We invited my GN to come over and ride my friends pony. While she was riding Dice I really couldn't tell if she was having a good time. I asked her, and she said yes, but not in a convincing way. When Grandma came to get her she dismounted and walked away. I had already cooked up the plan with my friend that if she liked the pony I would take him.

I rode with my friend back to her pasture and told her I didn't think it worked, I didn't think my GN   was hooked. Later I posted the pic on fb. Grandma  posted that it had been a long
quiet ride home.  GN  was in love. ;D I wrote back that all girls' first love should be a horse ;D So of course I had to get Dice!

There are a lot of things she will never have, but a pony is something I CAN give her! I'm so excited. She finds out tomorrow!

Oh my favorite topic is back!  Hurray....Chele you are amazing.  A pony!  How exciting.....she is going to burst with joy....  And both you and surfdreams are very brave.  I am a big chicken and would never go ziplining...Well, maybe I would with alot of convincing.

i'm still lying on the couch recovering from SIRT, but I'm hoping I will be able to have some fun soon! Halloween is coming up here.  My daughter and small grandkids always come up here for trick or treat in a small town.  We go downtown, hit the stores .  Everyone dresses up here!  Its like a fairyland.  My 5 year old grandaughter is really into decorations now.  I brought her some last week, have another box for her now.  After all, her grandma owns a seasonal shop.  She should have decorations.  My daughter keeps saying thats enough, she doesn't need that much.  But I disagree, so do my employees.  We packed a huge box for Evelyne last week  :)  A person who is decoration crazy should be nurtured. I know its no pony but hey, its something.   I'm making a halloween cake too!  Have to check pinterest to get some good ideas.

Chele, you have to let us know how she liked it.  I love stories like that.
