So...whats for dinner?
Comments
-
Yup, peanut butter for gum out of the hair! I think olive oil might also do the trick.
Welcome, Isabelle!
Lacey - sounds like semi-controlled chaos there. If you want to post a picture, you can email me a .jpg and I'll put it up for you. I know those iPads just won't cooperate with picture-posting. Your dinner last night sounds lovely and yes, the tropical downpour sounds very familiar. And you're smitten, you'll never be able to walk into the children's section of a store without finding adorable things! And of all things, a Patriots cheerleading outfit - nothing like getting those "almost New Yorkers" in the right spirit for football season! And kudos to DGGM for being so tech-savvy at her age, that's awesome!Deb - you'll be on your way in less than 48 hours, I'm sure you're super-excited. It's going to be a fantastic trip and I can't wait to hear all about it.
Debbie - we stopped in to visit my mom for a few minute yesterday. I found her sitting in the dining room with one of the nurses, and they had taken her to the salon for a little pampering, plus they had taken her to the Catholic communion service. She was having a hard time and they were trying to cheer her. Plus, she told them she didn't want to sit with anyone and they wouldn't let her sit by herself. So the nurse kept her company while she picked at her food. It was amazing - most of the staff was aware of her mood and they were all so kind and helpful. After a few minute of seeing us (I had DD with me) she cheered up a bit, we went back up to her place and put a new mattress pad on her bed (DD and I managed to get that done and her bed remade in less than 60 seconds while mom went in the bathroom, so she didn't see us do it). We visited a little bit, then took her to the "movie room" where they were showing "The King and I". She loves music and I remember she liked Yul Brenner, so hopefully she enjoyed the movie with the other ladies in the room. I am confident that this was the right move for her, they have demonstrated, so far, that they really do know how to deal with memory patients. She just needs time to adjust.
And I'm sending positive thoughts for a good PET scan result for your dad.
Tazzy - congrats on feeling up to an outing! I hope you had a great time.
-
Deb so glad your DAd is remaining positive, he has a great daughter to cheer him on..hope for a good PET scan.
Went to the local winery to hear some music last night and ran into the owner, who used to be a nurse with me at the hospital, but married well and now owns this upscale winery. Anyways....she had breast cancer 15 years ago and was recently diagnosed with bone cancer of the spine, but her husband sent her to Lourdes (sp) France to get dunked in the holy water. She was in a group of people with all ailments, including a child with severe touretts. She has had a recent PET scan and says that she is all clear with no evidence of bone cancer....a misdiagnosis or a miracle? She says watching the transformation of the child with tourettes was a miracle in itself. Such an inspirational talk we had...made my night.
Michelle So glad you found a good place for your mom with caring staff...that is so rare these days, restores my faith in caring people that are there because they want to make a difference and not just get a paycheck.
Off to the farmers market for some fresh dill and garlic.....time to make some homemade dill pickles and can them for the kids when they come home.
Welcome Isabelle...What a gorgeous name.
-
Arh.. beer the cure all
was nice to be out and part of the human race again. And I didn't care how lopsided I looked - no one looks anyway ha ha.... it takes courage for us ladies to get up and out again and that made me proud.
Lacey - what a busy wonderful time you had.
Debbie: made me laugh loudly when I read your kitchen mishap story - what a mess. Good luck for your Dad tomorrow.
carberry.. interesting story about Lourdes - makes you wonder...but then again. But hey if she is cancer free - that's what its all about.
No idea about dinner tonight - something on the bbq with sweet corn and a salad of some description. My roma and cherry toms are so sweet this year.
-
Tazzzy, glad you had fun. Debbie, thanks for sharing, made me feel.a bit less stupid. Good luck with your dad tomorrow. Gotta tell you guys, my mom stored her iron in the oven when we were growing. Don't know why, but we would often smell burning plastic - she would turn the oven on and forget to take it out. I really think she did it on purpose when she wanted a new.iron....LOL
Carberry, lourdes is good if you believe, but I guess miracles do happen,so just be happy for her.
Michelle, so glad your mom is settling in, sounds like a very good facility. My DH had to take Jhuang mom to see a different doc, the one she had prescribed contraindicated drugs and she was sick. She also has dementia and drives her family nuts. Well at almost 90 I guess she can do that! LOL much to all. -
i wish it would cool off. oxtail soup sounds delish. However..... we are having salmon patties. sigh.. they are good.
-
Lacey congratulations!!! It sounds like things have been crazy with family but all turned out well. Can't wait to see a picture! And kudos to the great grandma, wow! I hope I have her spunk someday, lol!
Tazzy- So glad you got out and enjoyed yourself, sometimes it is something small that can make the most difference. Take care and rest up after your night out.
Michelle- It must be overwhelming trying to choose which option you want to pursue for treatment but it is also wonderful that there are so many! You have a great team of Dr's behind you and a great family. Plus, you are super informed about everything. I am sure you are going to make the right choice and do wonderfully. Also, it must make you happy that you made such a great choice for your mom. The new place she is at sounds wonderful.
Debbie- You had me laughing at the oven story and the gum in your hair and on DH's butt?! I am so glad you are keeping up with a smile despite everything going on with your dad and DH. I hope your dads scan goes well and you get some positive news.
Apple- Your kids sound so amazing with all they do to help out. They must have one amazing mom:)
Carrie- Glad you had fun with your night out. That is an amazing story- I wish I believed in stuff like that. I wonder if it would work if you believed or not?
Moonflower- I too have done some pretty dumb stuff and can't even blame it in chemo. Don't be too hard on yourself!
Nothing too interesting going on here. Work was ok and I am glad to say next week is my last week of doing it. DS #1 starts pre school the following week and it will give me a week home with both boys before we start a new routine. I am super excited that we are booked for our camping trip for Columbus Day weekend. It is in Chocorua NH and they do the Halloween theme that weekend with site decorating, trick or treating, pumpkin carving, hay rides etc etc. We almost waited too long and didn't get in but I convinced the woman to move other single campers around so we could get sites together (our friends and us).
Tonight I think I am going to make eggplant parm with the eggplant from my dads garden.
-
Thanks for the tips Lacey and Michelle, I decided to go with the evoo it seemed to detangle it so when I washed and conditioned it, it was all gone. Yay!
Michelle- The place your mom is staying in now sounds like a great caring place (they are hard to find) I am sure it gives you some peace and comfort knowing she is being taken care of. Not to mention she is closer so will be easier for you too.
Carrie- I like reading those kinds of stories, I guess we never know if it would of happened anyway but the important thing is she is NED now.
Tazzy- I can't remember when I was able to wear a bra after Mx but I would put some soft cotton on that side so I didn't look lopsided but it also didn;t bother me not to wear it either. glad you had fun.
Apple- Salmon patties sounds really yummy!
Laurie- LOL! Yep still don't know how that happened and DH was not happy at all. He said he rolled over in bed and there was something sticky on his butt. Yes he does sleep neked! hehe! TMI I know! Glad you got your camping site all worked out and last week of work coming up. Good for you, now you can enjoy the rest of your summer.
-
Just smothered some chicken breast with mayo and covered with cracker crumbs and permesan cheese and popped them in the oven. Feeling like a crispy chicken sandwhich with lettuce and tomato.
-
my husband called and said let's go out to dinner.. to a buffet or something.. i am starving.. i guess i have been sub par. that's what he get for being spoiled for 18 years.
hurray.. i am thinking Cracker Barrel.. i love that place
-
Going to make stuffed peppers right now!!!
-
Cracker barrel sounds good. Relax and enjoy......
Pork chops last night..not sure about tonight....yet... To copy Michelle, there are 4 bell peppers in our fridge. One for each of us tonight and one for DD for lunch tomorrow..... hmmmmm:... :-)
Eric -
Can't decide if I want to.cook tonite. I am alone tonite, and feeling kinda lonely. I am still hurting, went to one pain pill today, will probably take two tonite! My drain is putting out awesome amounts, so I had to cancel my ps appt tomorrow. I saw my ps on wed, and he said he wouldn't need to see me if the drains were still.filling so much, so will.see him next week. The drain is putting over 100 ccs a day - quite a ways til under 30! LOL all through this, I have had only person bring me food, just one neighbor. I have a son, a brother in my city, a sister and brother 15 minutes away, and no one even offered s pizza. Oh well, l guess I can make Tuna casserole. will ne better with some tomatos though! LOL
-
Eric- I have a question for you or anyone else who may know. What is the cord that connects from the phone line to the laptop called? It is not the usb or power cord. it has clips on both ends one clips into the computer and the other to a box that connects to our phone line. the one I had got all twisted and broke and I replaced it but it does not fit right so I will have to get one straight from Toshiba but can't find the right name or product. Argghhh!
How is Sharon doing, did you find out anything about her lump behind her ear?
Moon-Aww, so sorry you are not getting much help from family. If you lived closer I would bring you a pizza. Sorry you are in pain. Take those pain pills they do help
Making sauted chicken, spinach for me, and green beans for DH
-
Debbie - that cord is an RJ11.
(((Moonflwr))) - so sorry to hear your family is no help. Do they understand that this is a tough surgery? I wonder sometimes, because we are in and out so quickly, if people think it's a "minor" surgery. Your drains are putting out a lot because you're probably overdoing things. Try to rest as much as possible and hopefully the flow will slow!
Apple - enjoy your dinner out! I know you don't go that often and this is a treat. I hope you're enjoying something really yummy.
Laurie - I love that area where you are going camping. I climbed Mt Chocorua when I was in high school. It was buggy - this I remember!!! Sounds like it will be a fun weekend with all the family activities. We camped at a national campground on the Kancamangus many years ago during Columbus Day weekend. It got so cold - down in the teens! But with the climate changes, you should have a lovely weekend!
Eric - enjoy your peppers. Mine were really good, maybe the best I've made. It was the black pepper, I think. Lots of it. For some reason, that spice doesn't bother me. DH is now trying to fit the leftovers into the freezer as we'll be busy for the next few days. I usually make 6 peppers, cut them in half, nuke/steam them for 5 minutes then stuff and nuke about 20-25 minutes. I've decided that they don't taste any better if I actually bake them, so nuking is the way to go.
-
Moon, I am sorry. I wish I were closer
. I think you probably are doing too much for the drains not to be improving more. Mine never put out that much when I had my mx. I did make sure i took it easy though. What surgery did you have? will someone be home with you soon?
Apple enjoy your dinner. Cracker Barrel is one of the few chains that are not around here.
Laurie, I totally agree about the fresh veggies. My boss gave me some tomatoes from his garden and I made gazpacho with them. Delicious! Had corn on the cob and mahi mahi burgers with tomato slices and onions and this really good cranberry horseradish spread on whole wheat buns. Nice summer meal.
Debbie, it is fine to all me Kay. I just changed ny name because the mods said it was a good idea not to use your real name since someone could search on it in google or in the member list.
Doing laundry to get ready for our trip tosan francisco Saturday morning. I am so excited. Can't wait!
Lacey, anxiously waiting for a pic of that sweet little baby! Take care everyone. -
Just emptied my drain again, 50 ccs . That's 130 for the day so far. And.I have only gotten up to get the newspaper, mail, go to the bathroom, and fix a Lunch of reheated chili, dinner of a frozen meal and get a glass of water. So not doing anything but sitting! Drainage is still red red too. So definetly needing to come put. I think he went and took off the dog ear I had under my ARM though, cause I don't see it now maybe I wouldn't with the swelling. And, no, its not red, or.hot, and I am not running a fever. LOL sorry o just read over the previous post of mine and boy, I can whine with the best.of them! LOL.
-
Moonflower- I missed something? I didn't know you were having surgery? I am glad you are laying low but wish we could all be there to bring you some yummy food
I am sorry friends/family are not stepping up. Thats BS.
Kay have fun on your trip!!
To the ladies who said they made spaghetti sauce from their tomatoes from the garden- how did you do it?
Tonight's eggplant was out of this world. I don't know if it was because it was from the garden, or because it was white eggplant but wow- what a difference! It was sweet and didn't absorb any oil in the frying and was just awesome. Dh and I tried to figure out why and just decided we don't care- we just want more
-
Michelle- YES! thanks. It lead me to the word I was thinking of which was ethernet cable which is the same. Yay!
Kay- Love San Fransico be sure to go to the Warf and eat at the great restaurants there. Have fun!
Moon- Whine away, thats what we are here for. Hope you can get those dreaded drains out soon.
Laure- Did you know... Male eggplants are sweeter because of less seeds. Also white eggplant have tougher skins but really mild. so could of been a white male eggplant lol! Did you make your own sauce?
-
I agree with Michelle. RJ11 plugs on a cord. It's the standard cord that goes between the phone set and the wall. Even the big box home improvement stores will have them for a few dollars.
Hi Izabelle. Glad you found us.
It's thundering and the dogs are trying to scare it away by barking and growling at it...and carrying Sharon's shoes aroand
Debbie.. I'm read your post at the bookstore and I was laughing so much everyone was looking at me. I was confused for a moment.
Chrissy needed a book for a literature "pick your book to read" assignment, so we were at Barnes and Noble. She got one on Cleopatra. I bought a European bread book from the $5 table.
Moonflower, I didn't realize either. Call your family and ask...I couldn't imagine not coming over and bringing something or saying hi..anything... if we lived close...you'd probably get tired of us....
Tazz, it's good to get out! There is nothing worse than being stuck in the house.
Lacey....it sounds like a good time there. I like the idea of getting together to celebrate a new baby.
Sharon beat me to dinner tonight...nuked leftovers...so peppers tomorrow.
No news yet on Sharon's biopsy...Hopefully tomorrow.
Eric -
Hi All, Seems like many are on a great harvest cook fest these days. Laurie I was sitting here with my mouth watering over your eggplant!!!
Moon, I also wish I could help you with meals. Maybe people don't understand your condition?
Michelle, positive thoughts on your appt tomorrow and have a wonderful Russian dinner. We'll have to head there soon, too.
Kay, have a fabulous trip!! Love San Francisco.....
Debbie, I'm glad you are now gum free...and hope DH is too.
EVOO is just a little higher class remedy than the old peanut butter trick I learned about when my boys were little.
So I am still up because we drove home late today...after picking up our sweet little 20 mo old "big brother" DGS from nursery school. I love going there and seeing how his school operates. His class is basically just toddler boys, and I was happy to see that the main teacher was gently caring for a little guy who is always pretty unhappy at school. Our guy was busy going with the flow with the rest of his class. As much as I was unsure about this plan for him, he is thriving there, and we see so much growth, since it is his chance to be with other children. He has many adults in his life...so kids to play with, good lamguage modeling, and stimulating structure will be key for him.
Anyway, I had felt badly that baby Ava showed up before I had a chance to make DDIL's nursing "hooter hider". Since she couldn't find her old one, I had promised to make her one. So tonight that was my project when we arrived home...which I just completed. Tomorrow it gets put in the mail and another thing gets checked off my "to do" list.
I will post some pics through Michelle, once I get back to NH tomorrow. Need to get some sleep now......feel like I've been on a marathon of sorts...but already miss the little grandkids. -
Ok, lacey, I'll bite! What the heck is a hooter hider? Some kind of shawl? I nursed my four kids for about two years each. It's good you support breast feeding, because there are people who don't! Much love and congrats. Ava seems to be a popular name, my neighbor also picked Ava, and my cousin picked Eva. Funny how things trend.
-
LOL.. it figures we have to ask a man the name of a computer to laptop line. (that's not it)
-
LOL, Apple. My DH works in telecommunications and I worked for decade in IT, so we are both pretty well-versed in these things.
Debbie - the ethernet cable is an RJ45, there is a difference between the two. So if you're looking for an ethernet cable, ask for an RJ45. Both are quite inexpensive these days and readily available.
Moonflwr - what does your surgeon have to say about such a prolific output? It doesn't seem normal to me, but he knows how much work he did and should be able to set some expectations for you. It certainly doesn't sound like you are overdoing anything. And by now, I would think you'd be heading towards drainage that is not so red. It's worthy of a phone call.
Lacey - looking forward to seeing those pictures of precious little grandchildren!
I sure hope this afternoon's appointment ends with a plan. Keep your fingers crossed for me, I am anxious to get onto something to slow down this screaming demon.
-
I've had a request for stir fry.. sound some sirloin steak for 50 % off (before 8 AM) and I have vegetables. I wonder if I have any cornstarch.
Btw. I have been using miso lately.. it really is delish. My kids always comment on how good the food tastes but insist they don't like miso.
bwa ja ha ah ah a.
-
LOL Apple. I use low fat yogurt instead of sour cream all the time and less sugar and things in what I make. No one ever notices, but of course, they hate yogurt. Right.
Moon, I don't know what is normal or not, but when you said you had 100 cc's of ouput, I thought that was at one time, not over the whole 24 hours. It will be one year tomorrow since I had my mx, so I don't recall exactly, but I think maybe I did have outputs similar to that in the beginning. I just didn't want to leave that I said I didn't have outputs like that when I really might have. I'm just not sure. I definitely took it easy though.
Going to a fun place for dinner tonight. It's called Chickie and Pete's and is a sports bar near the Phillies stadium. We have to go down to exchange tickets that we have for next week when we'll be away, so we won't waste the trip just on that. They have the most delicious crab nachos. Looking forward to them. Take care everyone.
-
Good luck today Michelle!!! I'll be thinking of you.
Apple- LOL!!
The only thing on the agenda for me today is cleaning and a haircut this afternoon. I haven't had a haircut in three months...I wonder if I will go for a trim or chop it?
-
Kay - I will be near you week after next. DH has a business trip to a customer near Philadelphia, I am going with him and we are planning to stay at a hotel in Atlantic City, purely for my amusement
PM me if you think we could get together for lunch or dinner - it would be great to meet you in person!
Thanks, everyone! We are meeting friends at the Russian restaurant that I have mentioned after my appointment...planning to sample a vodka or two! So it will be later in the evening when we get home and I can tell you about our plan and our fine dining experience - I hope!
-
Moon, you guessed correctly...it is a nursing cover, made in a pretty cotton print with a peek a boo neck area so mom can look down at her little one. They are really easy to make...even tho my eyes were crossing after travelling back all afternoon...so it took me longer than it should have. Lots of casual patterns for these on the internet...a great gift, I think, for nursing mothers. I'd found an adorable cotton print...looks like a batik print with a cute turtle design...much prettier than my description....and from underneath the baby will see some nice color contrasts to enjoy looking at.
I forgot to mention last night Michelle, I'm so glad for your mother (and relieved for you) that she is with caring, attentive staff in her new setting.
Fingers crossed here......and I will get some photos to you for posting.... -
Moonflwr Big Hugs!! You know if we were there, you would have meals coming so fast you wouldnt be able to eat them all. I would order a home delivery pizza...and get what I want on it and not have to share! Rest and relax and read a good book, if you only have one drain left it may just be doing the work of the other ones that are gone, and may take awhile to slow down, but I agree, it should be light pink and not red.
Tazzy, how was your night out?
Michelle Good luck today.
Yesterday I painted a bathroom, today I will add the horizontal stripe...I can never just paint a room one color LOL
Laurie I thin the purple eggplant can be bitter sometimes, good to know the white ones didnt absorb the oil. I have changed my technique for eggplant parm, and bread it and bake it, to save some caloies.
Debbie Interesting facts on eggplant...you are a wealth of knowledge.
-
Michelle- I think it is the eternet cable rj45 because it doesn't go in the wall one end clips into the DSL box and the other end in the computer. But your answer led me to the right one. hehe. My DH kept saying it was the usb port, I knew that was wrong. LOL! I ordered one hope it gets here soon it is hard to type with one hand while holding the clip in with the other. I am sending positve thoughts and prayers for you today and always!
Apple- LOL!
Kay- Have fun tonight and yum on the crab nachos!
Laurie- I havn't had a hair cut in ages either unless you count the (times) I have cut or should I say chopped my hair up while drinking wine. For some reason when I drink wine I want to cut my hair. I hate looking in the mirror the next day.
Carrie- Google can be good sometimes lol!
