So...whats for dinner?

Debbie, do they hide the scissors when you pop over to friends houses for a drink? LOL . Lacey, that Dou.DS like a nice gift for a nursing mom. Love to cook, no problem, it still is high even for a daily output. It will probably be over one hundred today, but it looks like it is getting lighter in color do.I think he will be able to remove it when I see him on Tuesday. Lori, enjoy your haircut! Much love to all
-
Moon- Actually they do and glue guns too, long story i will share sometime lol!
Lacey- Hooter hider cracked me up!
Today on the chew had a recipe that Jason Roberts cooked it was a Fig and hazelnut tart on puff pastry. Looked so good. Its hard to copy paste from there page but easy to get from The Chew site. I was thinking a pear and blue cheese tart on puff pastry would be good too. Oh yummm!
-
Debbie...I could have sent you the RJ45 cable. It's not like I'd miss anything fewer than a hundred.... I'm nearly pushed out of my cube by the pile of the things under my desk.
Based on your description..RJ45 is what you need. The RJ45 and RJ11 look similar, but the RJ45 is the bigger of the two.
They make cables now where the tab that locks it into place is protected by another piece of plastic.
Michelle, where does your husband work..and where did you work? I'm at Verizon Wireless..where there are many more wires than the name would suggest. :-)
Eric -
Debbie- Lol at cutting your hair!! Can't wait to hear the glue gun story
Also, who knew there were make and female eggplants? You are one knowledgable lady!
Michelle- Hope you enjoy (ed) your dinner and your drinks!
On my way to my haircut I had to stop at the mall and go to the jewlers workbench to pick up a ring I was having repaired. I noticed that there was a sale at The Childrens Place(kids clothes). I got three pairs of jeans, 4 polo shirts and a pair of shorts for the boys for 17.91!!! Hot damn! When I get deals like that it makes me feel sooooo good! Usually a pair of jeans alone would cost 15-20 dollars. Super psyched!
Here is a recipe I am thinking of trying. Another way to eat zucchini!!
- 4 medium zucchini (or one very large one)
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 chopped onion
- garlic clove, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- Spaghetti sauce (homemade or your choice)
- 1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
- salt and pepper
- fresh basil, chopped
- cooked rice (I use brown wheat rice but you can use white if you want)
- Mexican shredded cheese
DIRECTIONS:
Cut the zucchini in half lengthwise. Scoop out the insides, leaving the shells about 1/4 inch think.
Heat olive oil in a skillet, cook onion and garlic until soft. Add zucchini insides, and saute another 2 minutes.
In a separate pan cook hamburg to lightly brown. Stir in onion and zucchini mixture from the other pan. Drain fat. Add cooked rice, stir in spaghetti sauce, basil and cook for another minute or 2. Remove and set aside.
When it has cooled add some of the cheese, egg, bread crumbs and salt and pepper. Fill the shells with the mixture. Fill a baking pan with 1/4 inch of water. Place filled shells in pan and bake at 375 for 40 minutes until golden brown, add more shredded cheese on top and broil until brown and melted.

oops forgot to add whats for dinner! Steak on the grill, baked potatoes, salad and something sauteed from the garden for a veggie

Hi everyone! My head is spinning from reading all these posts. I was away for a few days in the Highlands, then at a friend's house for another day, so no time to check the computer. Next week I'm going to Myrtle Beach with a friend. It's my first time there so I'm very excited. On the way back we're going to stop in Charleston.
Michelle, anxious to hear how your appointment went, and pray you will get the tx that will work best for you.
All the good recipes and food sound wonderful. Tonight I had some stir fry broccoli with shrimp and chili sauce.
I'll try and catch up over the weekend.
-
I'm home, and I agreed to be a lab rat! But before I get into that, it gives me great pleasure to introduce Lacey's precious new granddaughter, Ava Sophia:
Proud daddy and grandpa:
And with her big brother (isn't he adorable!):
And with her great-grandma:
Woohoo, it all worked!
OK, now there is this picture of my dinner tonight at Stoli in Brookline:
Yeah, it's a beautiful plate of food, as was everything they served us. We will most definitely be going back again. And for all you beet lovers, I did order the borscht (even though beets are not my favorite by any means) and I have to say it was very, very good! My DH said he won't eat it, so I won't be making it any time soon, but I might order it again.
Now...here's the scoop. I will be doing a clinical trial using ARQ-197. This trial is specific to metastatic triple negative BC, and I will be one of 26 in the US on this trial.
http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01542996
http://www.dana-farber.org/research/clinical-trials/clinical-trial.aspx?tid=2726
The drug is administered in three week cycles, and I will take it orally twice a day...for as long as it works. This will work with our trip to Hawaii and so I am extremely happy that Dr. Chen agreed that this was a good one for me. It seems clinical trials are all about timing - showing up at the right time when a trial is opening or about to open and meeting the inclusion criteria. Lots of bloodwork and scans, but I see that as a good thing - someone is keeping very close tabs on this nasty beast.
-
Lacey: That grandbaby is just beautiful!
Michelle: So glad that you were able to get the trial that works best for you! Now you can take that fun trip to Hawaii and make some good memories!
-
Lacey- Your new grand baby is gorgeous! I love the pictures of the proud family including great grandma, Great job posting Michelle.
Michelle- Sounds like this trial is a great match for you where it is specifically geared toward triple negative. And it is wonderful that it is oral so it won't interrupt life and vacation plans. Sounds like all and all it was a good day with great possibility's and amazing food and friends at the end.
Kaara- Nice to see you check in and I am glad you are having such a great time with friends! Enjoy your trip to SC!
Deb- Enjoy your trip coming up I am sure it will be wonderful!
-
Beautiful baby and proud family Lacey - so precious.
Michelle... great you've found a trial to suit you and that will fit in with your trip to Hawaii.. go kick cancer's butt.
Dinner tonight is crab cakes, stuffed scallops, sweet corn on the cob with Rosemary & olive oil foccacia bread.
-
Michelle, you are such a dear to post those photos for me! Thank you sooo much!! I'd better get my tech abilities upscaled!
Am very proud of you for trying the borscht
Do you know all the cleansing properties of beets? I wonder if the reason beet soup is popular in Russia is so it can clean out all the toxins in the liver from the Stoli!!
We'll have to meet up sometime at Stoli ....DH's mom was from Russia! Was that lamb in your photo?
So glad that your meeting at DF went well... sounds good for the trip to Hawaii!
Kaara your travels sound delightful! Enjoy the next one....:)
We had dinner at the Inn tonight (where we had dessert last Sun, Michelle) with some friends from home. I had a lovely panko crusted haddock topped with with fresh tomatoes, peppers, squash and capers along with rice and fresh green beans.....and a great rhubarb pie for dessert. -
Tazzy, that's my idea of a real tasty feast!! Hope you are doing well....:)
-
Wow, what a head of hair on that baby. Rebekah had a lot of dark hair then it slowly fell out and turned Auburn. She is here right now, I am almost all packed, just last minute things. Our flight leaves at 7:10pm tomorrow.
Michelle~I am keeping my fingers, legs, arms and eyes crossed for you that this trial works for you.
(((EVERYONE)))

Thanks all for your lovely comments about our new DGD. She is really sweet....miss her and that pistol of a big brother already!
Funny observation about attitudes/behaviors towards the second child....DH noted to me today that he got a kick out of how much he was "allowed" to hold little Ava Sofia (like costantly!) recalling that when we cared for our then three month old DGS over a year ago, DDIL took me aside to say that she thought DH was "possibly distracted, and shouldn't hold the baby". I guess parents are a ton more relaxed about subsequent kids! -
goodness gracious Lacey.. what a gorgeous granddaughter!
-
My pleasure, Lacey! Yes, for sure, parents are way more relaxed with that second child. And by the time you get to number four, it's really "old hat"...lol. When my first grandson was born, my SIL told us they wanted a couple weeks "alone" to bond with the baby. LOL! They changed their mind after a couple of days. But he was always very protective about over-stimulating him. Now the poor child is afraid of his own shadow and he'll be 9 next week! The younger kids are not afraid of anything.
And your dinner at the inn sounds lovely! Rhubarb pie - haven't had that in decades. I used to make a good one. That's funny about borscht being a cleanser for the Stoli...lol! In that case, I need not worry about the "two" little martinis I had with my dinner. Yes, that was the lamb and it was excellent. I just loved all the fresh veggies and there was mention of Allendale Farm on the menu. I think they supply the fresh ingredients:
I love the new focus on "farm to table" dining! That farm is located in Brookline. I'm surprised to learn of a farmstand in what I think is a "city" location. I guess I need to do a little more exploring around that area. Rick and I were talking and wondering just how so many hospitals ended up in that area - it gets so congested!
So I'm going to be a "gad-about Gladys" over the next few weeks. I'm planning to go with my son and his SO to Old Orchard Beach next weekend. She is competing in a triathlon and we'll be there to support her. I think we are staying until Monday. Then on Tuesday, Rick and I are going to Atlantic City. He has to be near Philadelphia for three days so we are booked at Caesar's in AC right on the Boardwalk. And oh, how great is this...I gambled often at the Harrah's property in Kansas City so I get offers from Harrah's quite frequently. When I called to book the room, they told me it will be complimentary. We have to pay $13 for taxes...lol. OK!!! Hubby's company would pay the tab for the hotel room, but they are going to get a break as well, free is free! So I hope my clinical trial starts the first week of September because I'm gonna be a little busy! Actually, they said it might be a couple weeks so that should be just about right. Or I could start next Monday and come home early from the beach if necessary. I think that would require the stars to line up just right
Right now, DH is checking Diners, Drive-ins and Dives to see which restaurant we will hit on our way to AC. We should be getting to southern CT in time for lunch, so he is on the hunt. LOL, he loves that show! We ate at one place in Westport a couple years ago and it was fabulous.
Moonflwr - how are you doing this morning?
-
Lacey She is so beautiful, and the cutest big brother. You must be so proud of your family.
Happy travels Deb.
Michelle sounds like things are falling into place just perfectly. Hope there are no side effects...I know you will rock this!
No meal plans today, going to another wine festival, but this time mostly for the music. Molly Hatchett and some other talents. Will probably eat festival foods.
Happy weekend everyone
-
I just made breakfast - french toast with pumpernickel bread containing raisins - mighty good! And Burger Smokehouse sausage.
Carrie - the wine festival sounds like great fun...enjoy!!!
-
Speaking of "farm to table" experiences....In our town there is a family run farm (Volante Farms) which has recently initiated a "dinner in the fields" event. They have hired a chef who uses all of their produce and the fresh caught fish they get from the group that supplies them and local families (like a CSA). They sell just so many tickets, pair wine with the dishes, etc. I was in NH but many of my friends/neighbors went and raved about it. I definitely plan to make the next one. They have had two so far....not sure how often they will offer this....it's pricey....but a very cool idea. The pictures my friend had placed on facebook were stunning...it looked like they were eating in a California Vineyard!
I'm happy that this recently remodeled "Farm stand" operation is doing well. The owners' three kids went off to college and returned to run the family business...a rarity in our time, I think.
Deb, have the time of your life at this happy occasion! Safe travels.....
Michelle, you have a delightfully full docket for the next few weeks,,,,,Enjoy!
According to my NJ BIL and SIL who came to Ava's "homecoming" bash and run up and down the Northeast corridor regularly to see their Boston grandkids, there is a great Italian restaurant in CT off Rt 15 just south of New Haven. Is that too far North for your stop? If not I'll get the name and exit #. -
Lacey - that is right off the Merritt Parkway (15) and probably the way we will come down - 84 to 91 to the Merritt. It would just depend on when we leave, but it would probably be about right if we leave around 10 a.m. We lived in Trumbull, CT for 4 years so it will be interesting to hear the name of the restaurant. Who know, we may have been there in the past (would have been 20 years ago, though).
That "dinner in the fields" experience is happening across the country. The Kansas City botanical gardens has done it in the past and it sounds like the same kind of experience. I'd love to do it once. Maybe next year!
-
Lacey, beautiful GD. Congrats. Michelle, you are going to ne busy, I am so glad the trial fits in to your plans. Deb, safe travels! Carrie enjoy the wine. Hi, Apple!
I just ate strawberry and cream French toast, my DH took me out for a late breakfast. Yum! My drain is slowing output a bit, so I feel like I can relax a bit. I was getting worried. My PS worked under my ARM to remove a dog ear, at least, the dog ear is hone, and.I can feel under my arm where it hurts a bit. So I.think that is why I had so much drainage. he told me he work.on that at Exchange. But he must have gotten a head start. It does look pretty good though! LOL. Much love to all. -
Eric- If I'd of known I would of hit you up on one, we don't have a computer store near us. I will remember you next time hehe!
Lauire- What a great buy you found for the kids! It's hard to find them now a days. Your Zucchini recipe looks similar to the one you posted last year while out camping is it different I can't remember? Seemed you wrapped it in foil and cooked it outdooors. But def going to be trying this.
Kaara-Its good to see you are enjoying yourself out with friends
Lacey- What a georgous baby and beautiful grand son as well. You must be so proud.
Michelle- Sounds like this trial will work perfectly for you, and will still be able to go do all the things you have lined up. Never heard of the phrase "Gad about Gady's' Funny! I love AC it is so much fun I am sure you will find some great diners out there I can't remember the places I ate at but the food was always pretty good.
Deb- Have a great trip, send us pictures when you can.
Tazzy- Your dinner had me drooling. Yumm!
Carrie- Have fun on your Yet another wine festival (Lucky you)
Moon- Glad to see your drains are slowing down a bit and that you are happy with the results. It won't be long until you have them out, hopfully!
Last nights dinner was scallops in a champagne sauce (Delicious) crab coctail for app. Clam chowder soup. Then we all headed over to the Mist lounge which is always fun but "Not crazy" That is until last night, I swear it was girls gone wild in there. They were all going nuts over the bartender Brandon, He is a hottie but geesh! They wanted to take off there tops and I said, what are you trying to do, give my husband a heart attack? They laughed and did refrain from removing there clothes. LOL! Dh and I said we are so glad we don't have to do the "Meat markets" anymore, I love my hubby just the way he is. Had bacon, eggs and hashbrowns for breakfast and a little pickle juice too. My friend told me pickle juice was good for hangovers I think it might of helped hehe!
-
Well Debbie I must say your dinner last night sounded delish too. Seems you had lots of fun
Off to our friends for the 2 year old's birthday party then to other friends for supper, which I believe she is doing ribs - not sure what else - I must admit to really loving ribs.
I hope you are all having wonderful weekends, full of love, laughter and happiness.
-
Debbie- LOL at the bar scene! Years ago DH and I were going to Aruba and stopped for a lay over in an airport in Florida. It was about 8 am and he went and got us bloody mary's. It had a huge garlic pickle in it. I thought it was so bizarre. That was the best damn bloody Mary I have ever had and I ate both mine and DH's pickle!
Tazzy have fun tonight!
-
Have not been on this site for 2 days....can hardly catch up with all the posts. Thanks for the welcome & Deborye I loved the card. Just finished #9 rad yesterday & was a little bushed ...I would love to reply to almost every post but just too much...so I better stay in touch more often.
Lacey: The baby & brother are darling.
LuvRVing, maybe you could instruct me on posting pics. I downloaded Picassa but can't get past that. My husband and I also RV, live in a coach all winter in Florida & we have bamboo sheets too...they are the best.
Luvtocook..I made gazpacho this week too...with produce from my brother's garden...took it & homemade pesto to a Marathon Bid Euchre luncheon at our community centre. Most of the ladies did not know what either one was & were surprized at how much they enjoyed both.
On my own for supper tonight (DH is at football with buddies) so I am cooking shrimp/mushrooms/onions/garlic in butter and EVO with fresh tomatoes from my Bro's garden.
Debbie, I love scallops, especially bacon wrapped. In fact I can't think of anything I don't like.
Has anyone here made eggrolls or springrolls? Thinking of trying both next week...I bought the wrappers. So nice to meet others with the same enthusiasm for cooking and eating..
Made 4 fresh peach pies yesterday for our Ontario Bet together lunch on Sunday. Have not met anyone on these sites so tomorrow will be a treat.
Running out of steam now but I will be back. (When I say that to DH he always says "thanks for the warning".
-
Isabelle- welcome! I have been wanting to try spring rolls....had gotten a recipe from a friend, I'll have to dig it up. Have fun at your get together!
I am making stuffed peppers for dinner because lets face it- tis the season! DH is bored so he is making stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer- yum I love it when he is bored ;P
-
Tazzy- I love ribs too, pork is my choice over beef ribs. Have fun tonight!
Isabelle- Here is a good spring roll recipe that is good, this version is vegetarin but all you have to do is add, (cooked) shrimp. chicken. pork or beef.
Spring rolls
- spring roll wrappers
- 1/2 cup bean sprouts
- 1/3 head of green cabbage, chopped
- 5 green onions, chopped
- 1 cup thin noodles, pre-cooked (use rice, Chinese or bean thread noodles)
- 1/4 cup fresh herbs (use cilantro, basil or mint, your choice) I like mint in mine
- 1/4 cup carrots, grated or julienned
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, grated (optional) I actually use a lot more ginger in mine
Preparation:
Toss together all ingredients together except wrappers in large bowl. Submerge spring roll wrappers in hot water until pliable, about 15 seconds. Place about 2 tablespoons of mix on wrapper and wrap spring rolls and serve. So easy to make just fold up both ends and fold up each side tightly. I either will use a sweet chili dipping sauce or a peanut sauce. -
Isabelle- Here is a recipe for an egg roll recipe that I got off of allrecipes. com I have used it before and it is really good too.
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 quart peanut oil for frying
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 2 ounces shredded carrots
- 8 (7 inch square) egg roll wrappers
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (optional)
Directions
- Season pork with ginger and garlic powder and mix thoroughly. Heat mixture in a medium skillet, stirring, until pork is cooked through and no longer pink. Set aside.
- In another large skillet heat oil to about 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) or medium high heat. While oil is heating, combine flour and water in a bowl until they form a paste. In a separate bowl combine the cabbage, carrots and reserved pork mixture. Mix all together.
- Lay out one egg roll skin with a corner pointed toward you. Place about a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of the cabbage, carrot and pork mixture on egg roll paper and fold corner up over the mixture. Fold left and right corners toward the center and continue to roll. Brush a bit of the flour paste on the final corner to help seal the egg roll.
- Place egg rolls into heated oil and fry, turning occasionally, until golden brown. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels or rack. Put on serving plate and top with sesame seeds if desired.( I add a lot more ginger and garlic than this calls for also I add soy sauce to the mix.)
-
Wowie...love you ladies.. debbie, thank you ...I use the Allrecipes site too, but usually have to adapt. I love to get a second opinion. I find that the site has good ideas but they use a lot of "canned soups". Love to take the ideas and add my own touch.
Laurie, I make stuffed peppers regularly love them...have you ever tried quinoa (a grain) instead of rice? very healthy and not much difference tastewise.
I make stuffed mushrooms too....a Paula Dean recipe which my friends request frequently, and of course I have to change something, it is a 3 cheese recipe with spinach & garlic... if interested I will put it on here...always a winner.
-
Isabella - we are always interested in recipes. Looking forward to seeing your stuffed mushroom recipe, and if's a Paula Deen concoction, it's probably really yummy! As for posting pictures, the trick is that your picture must be on the internet somewhere. It doesn't help to download Picasa but it would help to upload your pictures to Picasaweb, Flickr, Shutterfly or Photobucket (as examples). Even a picture on Facebook works. All you have to do is click inside your picture that is on the internet somewhere, then right click your mouse, select "copy" from the drop-down menu. Then come here, click inside this text box where you'd like to put your picture, right click your mouse and select "paste" from the drop-down menu. This process works for Internet Explorer but not for other browsers. We went out to dinner with JoyceK and her DH tonight - Carrabba's. We had a great time then went back to their house and played with their Malti-poo puppy named Casey. She is adorable! Joyce is doing better. They ran some tests last week, found out where she was likely having some internal bleeding and they were able to fix the areas. She had some ulcer-like areas that the docs think were mostly the cause of the problem. She is feeling much better and now it's a matter of checking her blood count, probably in early August, to be sure she's holding steady. In the meantime, she's having her second cataract surgery at the end of the month.
