We don't run sprinklers in the summer, but I do try to keep the bird baths cool for them. My DH keeps wondering if there is a way to have a pump system put in that would keep the water circulating so it doesn't get so hot. I just am not sure if would keep the water cool enough for the birds.

Anne - LOL!

Hi Friends,
It's hot and humid here today. Hoping for some rain later. We have a 40% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.
Athena ... Thanks for posting the BCO rule. I hadn't read that before now.
Anne ... You made me laugh out loud and spit my afternoon coffee on the computer! Yes, let's talk about Willard!
Yorkiemom ... I think you have a major dental appointment coming up. I'm keeping you in my thoughts. It's been 3 weeks since I had a lower molar extracted and then sutured up. The stupid thing still hurts! At least the bone isn't sticking out anymore.
Notself ... I have a wonderful bird bath and really enjoy watching the birds play and take baths. We have so many different kinds of birds here, but then, my property is full of trees and lots of homes for them.
Ahh geez ... we're on a new page and I can't remember who is having fresh salmon for dinner. I am so jealous. I loved to deep sea fish when I lived in San Diego. It was so relaxing to go fishing in the summer after a crappy day at work.
Hope everyone is having a great day,
Bren
PS ... Wondering if Blue has heard anything about her bone scan yet.

We live in town but back onto a river on a small urban lot. Our lawn areas are small, intended to be places to sit lounge. The rest is perennial gardens, shrubs and some very old, very large sugar maples, an amazing black walnut, and some younger oaks. It has been very dry, but river levels are still ok. Until last year I had not thought of getting a pump and using river water, just followed the alternate days watering schedule and things stayed ok. But duh, it makes no sense to water with treated water when we have lovely, untreated river water. And I could water any day I wanted
. I realise that this involves getting a pump and some sort of way to power it. Fossil fuel generator is out (noise, pollution) maybe an electric pump? But then again, we are starting time of use billing here soon. If I think about it long enough it will be fall and the rain will come again (fingers crossed) and I will have to put on my list of things to get done before spring.
The robins and cardinals love it when I water, as do the insects which they are prowling after.

AnneW: Have to be careful of what's lurking in the bushes.

Wish i could send some of my water elsewhere in the country.

I'm thinking if we were bashing Obama, we would be left alone.

YramAL I bet you had a hard time not picking at scabs when you were a kid

Kay-

I've been banned a few times here, and it's always my own fault. Can't help it.

At least you are in very good company! (Well maybe not all good, but it seems that alot of very opinionated, interesting, and yes, even good, people get banned.)

Speaking of Sunflower(s) and good things, this year I put out Sunflower seeds for the birds...I've only recently gotten into bird feeding, up until this year, only Nyger seed for the Goldfinches and Pine Siskins, and Hummingbird feeders and Mitt Witts. So I put out the Sunflower seeds and coincidently, it must have been an "eruption year" for Evening Grosbeaks. My backyard was loaded with them and they are such an exotic looking bird for my parts and without feeding them, I don't think I had ever noticed them before. For awhile, my cats coexisted, but they adapted as some of the seeds fell to the ground and the birds followed, so I had to eventually remove my feeder. They are such a beautiful bird.
One of the birds I rescued from my cat and subsequently gave to a friend who rescues and releases all kinds of birds and raptors. The one I gave her did not survive (she administered antibiotics). She said cat bites are the absolute worst, infection wise. After that, I just took down the feeder. I could hardly stand the worrying I did with that sweet bird.

You never know what is going to come out of the woodwork

Add me to another one going to the dentist! I am already dreading this and my appointment isn't until Friday. Having gum surgery on the right side of my mouth along with a bone implant and a rod put in for future implant on the left side.
The bright side? I can't eat solid foods for at least a week which means I might lose the 10 lbs I gained the last couple of months.
-
On another topic - I am having a really hard time with hot flashes. Scared to take the over counter stuff as it might interfere with my tamoxifen, etc.
I am waking up at least 4 times a night dripping wet with sweat. It is absolutely disgusting and is totally interrupting my sleep patterns.
Any ideas?
-
jancie, gotta find the good in all things. Hope you do lose the 10 pounds! Never had to have a bone implant, but just the name doesn't sound good.
Hot flashes oh I'm right with you there. I thought I was past them till BC showed up, and all the treatments . My DH gets the joy of waking up with them as well as me at night because the bed gets hot and then it gets wet!!! So good for the relationship you know.
-
When I do run the sprinkler out back I love to watch the birds dance and wiggle. Bluejays
like to do it from tree branches. Cardinals like to boogie in the grass along with the mocking birds.
It's so fun to watch. -
jancie,
As long as you have to see the dentist and are going to have trouble eating (
) try to avoid carbohydrates especially any form of sugar or alcohol. In my personal experience, the more carbs I ate, the worse my hot flashes and night sweats. -
jancie, my hot flashes under Tamoxifen made me think I had died and gone to Hell to make sure it stayed hot enough down there.
There is uncertainty as to whether black cohosh a) works and b) can be used because it may be estrogenic. Go to the NCCAM web site. Most cancer docs will say no to black cohosh but, as with so many things cancer, only because it doesn't make sense - not because it has actually been found to be bad.
Other than that, nothing worked for me except standing by a cool fan. It was a terrible sufferance.
That is the nicest thing I can say about hot flashes - and Tamoxifen.

Hey, I thought we were discussing CURRENT events????? Not Allowed??????????
Bren, no results yet. No news is good news. Went down for DBS follow up neuro-psych evaluation. No deterioration since the surgery, so am as stupid as before not any more stupider!!!! hahahahha!
Sandy, Movies or should I say Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend!!!!!!!!! Gotta love Marilyn!
OK I can't remember anything else except bats which brings to mind "Dark Knight Rises", my birthday treat for Ray, tonight. Should we wear bullet-proof vests? Wait a minute, that's current events too. Please don't ban me!
-
Jancie - I welcome every hot flush - it shows the Aromasin is working - try to keep that in mind.
Wow - I actually slept in until 7!!! I should tryhaving a day off more often.
We had a terrible drought here and then we had lots of floods, so hold on to that thought.
Kay - you are right, often the nicest people get banned after a campaign against them - it's not fair.
-
Blue - don't forget to take your gun tonight so you can shoot back. Have a great time.
Floods following drought makes sense because so much vegetation dies.
Janice - good luck with the surgery and with dropping 10 pounds. Unfortunately, there are so many soft things that are high in calories that I like. Milk shakes. Pudding. Mousse au chocolate. Getting hungry now. OK - I really do know that sugar's bad for me - and I do try to stay off it -but it's just so addictive.
-
Friendly reminder that when discussing politics, please remain as respectful as possible, and do not report a post unless it is breaking a rule. Thank you!
-
Has someone reported a post??? Paw to whiskers. I wonder who that was.....
Good for the good news - forelegs crossed, Blue.
-
Archie's a genius! hehehehehehe!
-
ROFL!!!
-
I am shocked ... SHOCKED! to learn that there may be post-reporting going on in this thread!
L -
I mean, really HL, who would have thought....
-
That Archie Bunker, just too too funny!
What I want to know is this, this thread is not on the active thread lists even though it is certainly very active, so a person would have to seek it out to find out what was being discussed. So I presume that there are some people out there who do not approve of like minded people getting together to share recipes, opinions, fears, good times. Seems to me that is rather small minded. If the reporter comes here and is offended perhaps she should keep her thin skin elsewhere. She had to look to find us in the first place. Just MY opinion. -
If youse don't like the folks here and der masticating of da current eventualities, youse guys should go somewheres else.
Apologies to Carroll o'Connor! -
Ok.....I'm off to get some depends!
-
LMBO ... I picked a good time to poke my head in and check on you all
-
ROFL!!
By the way, when is the dancing horse competition at the Olympics? Or is that too political?
