I've never done a blueberry sauce.  I've only made lemon sauce (and lemon dill sauce) for it.  How do you do the blueberry sauce - I've some fresh blueberries at home, maybe I'll give it a shot...

It's a bit cooler here today because of the overcast. The long range forecast says we will stay in drought conditions through October and the winter is projected to be warmer as well.  I hope Spring brings us long soaking rains.

OK, I've got 2 great ways to cook salmon, mix lemon, maple syrup, and a sprinking of cayenne pepper, marinate the salmon and bake at 375 for 40 minutes (more or less).

Second recipe, spread Dijon mustard on top of salmon, sprinkle with Panko bread crumbs, and parmegean cheese, and again, bake for 40 minutes.

I hope the drought doesn't last, though I keep thinking about the California drought that lasted something like 7 years.  It was a while ago, but it was brutal.  The whole country in a drought that long would be horrible.  It seems like Washington and Oregon are getting the cool weather, though we haven't had much rain lately, either...  I think I actually need to water.

no question about it, Mary.    I've never been too good at following the thought police - pc speech always drives me crazy as well....  I've always figured that calling a short person "vertically challenged" or any other pc-ism is just plain stupid.  I'm short, nothing else... well, OK, also I have short toes

I'm also genuinely concerned about what the drought and heat will do to food availability and prices.  I think we overuse corn but still, a lot of crops are failing.

Anyone seen the pictures of the dust storm around Phoenix?  Terrifying.

Yes, the drought worries me too. My friend's son-in-law is a farmer and I'm sure it has affected his crops. He's done so well the last few years as well.

I hope that teapartiers will stick to their principles and not ask the federal government to help them out so there will be enough money for aid for those that want it.

BCO has lots of rules. One of them, which I make use of and strongly suggest others do too is the second of the Rules on Conduct:

You agree that if you find yourself at odds with another member, you will (i) use the "ignore" button, (ii) not respond to an offending communication or (iii) report the communication to a moderator via e-mail or the "Report This Post" feature (but will use this feature only to report communications that are truly offensive, not those which simply reflect a view different from your own). "

I think this means that if you are someone who constantly reads a particular thread and very often find yourself disagreeing with the views expressed there, then you are, therefore, at odds with certain other members. Under the rules of conduct, this means you must

a) place them on ignore

b) not respond

c) not report if it is merely about a view different from your own.

There should be no excuse for someone to constantly visit a thread populated by people they constantly are "at odds" with. It doesn't make sense to me....on its face. I don't go and constantly visit places I know I will be at odds with. It's common sense, good mental health hygiene, and human decency.

Here in NJ, I'm hoping it won't rain - at least not until I get my gutters fixed.  Just finishing drying out my basement from the Saturday night storms.

My Dh's tomatoes are doing great, though.

I'm originally from the Midwest and all (the edge of tornado alley), but we just had a small earthquake here, not a tornado. hmmm... No accounting for the strange workings of the mind, I guess. I also have the chorus from the song "Nobody But Me" by the Human Beinz as an earworm ... You know the one: "No no nono nono nonono nobody can do the shingaling like I do . . . ." culminating in "Nobody but me, nobody but me." Wonder if they're connected?

3rd year of drought here. Front lawn is dead as a door nail. Don't have a sprinkler system, neighbor who does has beautiful lushness. Me, a bit green with envy. Not enough to waste water on it though.

I deleted it because I responded to Yorkie Mom and told her to put on her tinfoil hat, forgot to send it, and then went for lunch and came back posted and then found out that you (many of you had already advised her to do so).

The best recipe I have found for blueberry sauce with grilled salmon is on the Bon Appetit website.

One nice thing about living in the Pacific Northwest is our abundance of salmon. I love salmon and the blueberry sauce sounds yummy.

Chickadee-maybe your neighbor uses spray paint on their lawn?  I saw something on the national news about people using the same paint that sports arenas use.

I saw that too. Vegetable dye or some sort. If I was selling a house in a drought that would sure help. We keep talking about moving towards more xeroscaping. (sp?). Larger areas of gravel and rock landscaping with native plants. We already surrounded the foundation with river rocks. And a couple potted cactus.



We live on something called the dry line. 98th meridian. No kidding, it rains on the east side of the interstate and we get nada.

We put in a sprinkler system last summer because it was so dry then.  We have oaks that are most likely over 100 years old and I don't intend losing a single one.  Our system is aimed at trees and the immediate areas around them so our "yard" looks like a patch work quilt. 

Now I am watering by hose sprinkler the open areas of our property.  From the road, I'm sure it looks like we are wasting water but if one is on the property one sees flocks of birds standing in the sprinklers to get some relief from the heat.  Another reason to run sprinklers in our area it so the ground insects and grubs survive the drought.  Small mammals and larger birds feed on these insects and grubs.  They don't eat seeds.  So water I do.

Of course if our area is put on water hours, I will stop watering anything.  Right now, our lake levels are OK.

It's the rainy season in Florida, so I don't need to water at this time of year. We are restricted to how often and days of the week we can water. During the dry season which runs from November till May we just had a sprinkler system put in. With all the planting we've been doing there is no way I want to lose them.

I do agree the birds love to play in the water notself. It is fun to watch them.

I do worry with so much of the country is in such a long drought. It's sad to see all the food dying on the vine.

What I meant about the birds was they were actually cooling off.  Birds run hot with a body temp of around 100 but with the heat in this area, over 100, even birds can get overheated.  The sprinklers help them cool down to their normal body temps.  And, of course, they play as well.

We don't run sprinklers in the summer, but I do try to keep the bird baths cool for them. My DH keeps wondering if there is a way to have a pump system put in that would keep the water circulating so it doesn't get so hot. I just am not sure if would keep the water cool enough for the birds.
