Yorkie - are you a knitter? I am a card carrying yaranoholic, just ask Bren. What was your yarn emergency?
-
Cherry, I consider myself an advanced beginner to intermediate level knitter. I've done quite a few items including sweaters and Christmas stockings, but I am slooooow. I just need to do it more.
Kind of hard to explain, but I knitted the cuff of a Christmas stocking, was supposed to continue on with the wrong side of the cuff facing so the right side would show on the finished product (does that make sense?), but I did it the opposite way. Fortunately, only about 7 rows need to come out.
-
Yorkiemom, I understand. An easy mistake to make. Knit on, dear friend!!!
-
OK, I just got on the computer so don't know what the heck went on. Had a lovely day with my grandson. He sure makes life worth living. I think he's got my sense of humour. OH OH!
Sandy, thats exactly what I my vet said to me. The bone marrow is too fatty, cooked or uncooked. Didn't even ask me if it was cooked....irrelevent.
-
blue, I agree no way I'm giving marrow or any other bone products to my dogs!
-
Oh, I had such an exciting day planned yesterday. Two fun parties, one after the other. Actually, the only two party invites I've had all summer. Got myself into the tub, did all the shaving, toenails, fingernails, tweezed my chin hairs, make-up, hair, figured out what to wear .... by then I was so exhausted I could barely make it to my bed. Napped from 3-9 p.m. Missed both parties. Then was up all night because I couldn't sleep. Thank God for Words with Friends. LOL. This chemo makes my world just a bit topsy turvy. Chickadee, will be thinking of you on Tuesday and hope your scan results are boring (yeah, I picked up on that after months of lurking on your site). I hope to have a boring scan on Thursday as well! I will NOT take a nap today! Scoot, hope you're feeling better! Bren, you may need to change dentists!
-
(((Glenna))) That sucks that you got all prettied up and then missed the party. Sometimes a nap sure does feel good though.
-
Glenna, I don't have a site.......wonder what you have been lurking on.
Just as an aside, grew up in PG County. My sister lives in Bowie. -
Chickadee-Glenna's talking about how we all wish for boring, boring scans around here. Boring is the mantra. I wish for boring for you.
Glenna-I'm sorry you missed your parties! At least you're exceedingly well groomed now.
I had to laugh when you mentioned tweezing the chin hairs. Seriously, though, I'm sorry you're so wiped out. I hope you feel better soon.Mary

Boring is one of our code words. Can you believe that! We love boring results.
I have a bone scan scheduled for Thursday too because I have been having lots of pain in my lower back and down my left leg. Could be one of three things. Slipped disk (which was caught on MRI before my DBS surgery), my stimulator needs tweeking or, I don't even want to go there.
Anyways my grandson wore me out today and True Blood starts in a bit folllowed by Newsroom so I'm off for the night.
-
Thanks Cherry, I definitely will knit on, and on. I seem to have some weird addiction to moving the knitting needles, even when they convolute to various and sundry unfathomable stitches.
-
Knitting is one of life's great mysteries to me. I think it proves the existence of magic. Even more magical is that my 7 year old daughter seems to take to it like a duck to water. I have no idea what she is doing...
-
Blue - sounds like sciatic pain to me - been there done that. Can you handle physio treatment with the PD? I was SO sure I had mets a few months back, but my genius physio fixed it!!
-
CLC, it's great your daughter likes it! I wish I had learned at her age. Most of the master knitters I know learned very young.
-
That's what I'm hoping for Susie. It wasn't that bad on the MRI but that was 2 years ago. Now that my posture is a bit straighter may have affected it. Fingers crossed.
I just read on FB 100 things that will make the right's head explode and this one had me pmsl.....
"Rush Limbaugh is the only man capable of insulting African-Americans, women, homosexuals, Democrats, and Parkinson's Disease patients, all in the same sentence".
OK Night all!
-
My daughter is a natural artist and life observer. Knitting just fits right in with her love of color, texture and expression.
It's great that you knit, yorkiemom. I think it is most impressive when people learn things when they are older...shows an open mind and a love of living and learning that many people lose when they leave childhood. But, alas, my new lessons will not include knitting, as I am so unwilling to sit that patiently. I did try ballet last week, for the first time though... Not that I am graceful, but I am way more willing to make a fool of myself than be patient with my hands.
So...happy knitting to you!!
-
Glenna - now that is what would be called a true Sleeping Beauty!
-
YramAl, thanks for cluing me in on the code. Yes boring would be nice.
-
CLC, I was a crocheter (sp?) and pretty good seamstress when raising my young kids. Started knitting a few years ago, but I have always been crafty. I tend to be a couch potato unless I force myself to move. Cancer has made that imperative so I reluctantly move.
-
I'm laughing at the responses to my post .... Scuttlers .... that was good, Sleeping Beauty! You are all so much fun. Sorry, Chickadee, I forgot you were new to this thread, too, and that you might not know the boring code word. I'm wishing boring for everyone who is having tests this week. If you ever come to visit your sister, let's get together! I take my grandson to a really nice skate park and playground in Bowie called Allen's Pond. It's very close to where I live in Crofton. Mary, don't those darned chin hairs just pop up out of nowhere .... and then they're like an inch long! I wish I could join in on the knitting and crocheting conversation but my one attempt was a total failure! I'm off to bed early tonight since I had no nap today! Til tomorrow!
-
Welcome fiber nuts one and all!!!! I have been knitting for more of m ylilfe than not. I can also crochet and often use crochet sts to finish off knitted garment. I can't type, however, so it may take a while to get this message out!
I usually have at least two or three projects going at any one time. Before my vacation,I did a Nana blanket for my friend Pammy, wh ois ging to be a gramma for the first time and a prayer shawl for Brenda and a special treat for Bren. Now I'm working on my friend Roz's b'day present and a blanket in his school colors for her son Brendan. So much yarn, so little time! I see lots of folks are in the DC area, once my old stomping grounds. I'm feeling a get together coming on!!
-
Chickadee, Blue, Glenna: I wish you all the most boring of times.
Yorkie, Cherry: I admire both of you for your knitting. I have No talent whatsoever in that area. Can't knit or sew. Got an F in home ec - back in the days we had to take home ec - and to pass, we had to make an apron. Couldn't make an apron to save my life. Then when my daughters were little, their school wanted art projects, and I'd try to help - and just made it worse. It was better when they got to the writing. That I could help with.
Goodnight all. Catching True Blood - Alexander Skarsgard, sigh - tomorrow on demand.
Thinking of Sunflowers who should be here with us.
-
CLC, that is great that your daughter took to knitting. I think it is soimportant for children to learn to make something real and usable, knitting, sewing, wood work, cooking, anything!
Blue, it sounds like the herniated disk is acting up. I have one too, finally DXed about a month before I found the stupid cancer. What is this stimulator thingy that you have?
Boring wishes all around. -
Morning, all. My second cup of coffee and starting to write. I'm on page 230 of my YA novel - and about 100 pages left to go.
-
'Morning Alexandria - I am about to go for a second cup - still only about half way through my Civil War book of 900 pages.
May everybody's scan results this week prove so boring that we are put to sleep by the unremarkable results!
My granny was a very accomplished sewer, knitter and all-in-all embroiderer. Unfortunately, none of us grandchildren followed her. It's as much as we will do to sew a button.
-
Momine, I had Deep Brain Stimulation which is brain surgery, where they place two leads in the brain, connected to wires that run down behind my ear and are connected to a battery in my chest. In other words a pace maker for the brain. I have Young Onset Parkinson's Disease (like Michael J. Fox). It has done wonders for my symptoms as the medication was giving me terrible dyskinesias, as I have been on them too long and am in late stage. I still have some residual symptoms but I'm 75% better. I need to go down every once in a while to have the frequency adjusted on the battery. Lots of fun!
I used to knit, crochet, macrame (ok showing my age here) sew, do ceramics, refinish antiques, worked a full time job, took care of a 3000 sq. ft. home and raised 3 children. My ex. used to help, but not much. A chauvinistic Italian! hahahahaah!
Now I sit back and watch Ray do everything (except he doesn't knit). My children are all grown up. One is getting married the end of September, one is married (the lawyer) and has given me the greatest grandson and the other is settled with his soon to be wife (they haven't announced a date yet).
Geez I'm rambling off a storm here. I now just have two furry babies at home. Lilah and Virgil, the Lazy Liberals!
-
Blue, that is really cool. So basically, whenever your brain nods off, the stimulator gives it a kick ;P Dyskenisia is horrible, so I can see how this surgery must bring real relief.
-
Alexandria, what kind of novel are you writing? Or is it one of those epic and unfathonable legal briefs?
, To all who claim to have no talent for knitting, all it takes, for me at least, is a lot of perseverance, determination and anger control, when you have 'to let 'er rip.'
For those getting scans or waiting for results this week:ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
-
Oh, God I obviously need a second cup - Alexandria, you are writing? I'm just reading - lol!
-
Momine, they don't exactly know how it works but it works. I'm thinking it scares the neurons into behaving! hahahahhahah!
