I finally got motivated to do something today so I went into the spare bedroom and got rid of all of the carpet tack strip and stripped wallpaper off one wall.  I need to get rid of the base in the room as it is old and not worth painting over.  There is also some "border" wallcovering on all four walls - yes, this house was built in the 70's so it is really out of date.

Now I am in a full sweat.  I hate it that I start sweating so bad now that my clothes get wet and my eyes burn from the sweat pouring off my forehead.  Menopause SUCKS!

Riley - glad you are out of that heat box!!! I hope you find a new home for your kitty.

I can sew, knit, crochet, quilt, embroider, applique etc but have settled on cross stitch as my current favourite. Haven't knitted for many many years. It's cheaper to buy ready made things these days.

Riley, I know this belongs in the altie forum, but try a few drops of Rescue Remedy daily for Lovey. Should calm her right down. You can get it at Vitamin Cottage or Whole Foods. Or Amazon.

Linda, Linda, Linda ... cats are either pretty or cute or handsome or striking.  There is no such thing as an ugly cat Smile  Especially after you get to know them.

Riley ... I sent you a PM.  Will be happy to help spread the word if you decide it best to rehome her.

Home Ec ... we sewed something.  I can't even remember what but I know it was nothing that I ever wore or used.  Which gives you a pretty good idea of how I did at that particular skill.

Blasted hot here again (still).  Just got home from the store and I'm not sticking my head back outside unless I absolutely have to.  We've got our first big tomatoes from the garden though ... BLTs tonight ... yum.

ETA:  hahaha  You popped in while I was typing Riley.  She is very pretty!!

Edited to remove scary cat picture.  Didn't fit with Riley's gorgeous kitty :)

What I hated about Home Ec wasn't the sewing - I actually wore everything I made - it was the cooking.  It seemed that everything we cooked was eggs in some form, and I dislike eggs.  I already disliked them before HomeEc, so can't blame that.  I will eat eggs when faced with nothing else in the refrigerator, but it is my choice to use eggs in some form of cooking where you aren't actually eating - well - egg.

Riley - what a cute cat

Lovey is BEAUTIFUL, Riley!  I'd adopt her if I didn't actually live in another country!  Post her pic, how could anyone resist that gorgeous face?

My prejudices are showing but I honestly do not find punched-in-the-face Persians all that attractive.  Apologies to all who find them adorable......

My memory of Home Ec in junior high was cooking a frito-chile casserole in class, which I repeated at home. It was a moment of great celebration because for the first time since she got married somebody besides my mother fixed dinner!

Sally Ride? NOO!!! She was my hero. :(

Thanks, everybody. Lovey IS gorgeous. I love the bands of ticked fur (the tips of the hairs are lighter than the base of the hair).

I must confess I didn't take Home Ec. My sister did, and still sews. I'm sewing-challenged, but wish I weren't. I'd love to try to make a quilt top. I DO crochet, but prefer thread to yarn. Doilies are a dying art, though. Nobody wants them any more. I tried knitting, but have severe tension issues. The yarn is either so tight I can't get the stitch off the needle, or it's so loose, it goes flying off the end. I'm thinking about buying one of those knitting looms. I should be able to do that! Tongue out

ETA: I was taught to crochet first by a neighbor of my grandmother, who made bathroom rugs by cutting bread wrappers into strips and crocheting them in a circle until it was as big as she wanted; then later my friend's mom taught me how to crochet in squares instead of circles and turn corners.

No no Riley! I am making fun of my homemaker-less state! I admire people who knit and crochet and garden and cook...I didn't get any of those genes so it all reads like Martian to me.

I'm with Scoot, as least as far as the knitting, sewng, etc genes.  I can kind of cook, if I pay attention and don't get too wrapped up in a book or a tv show, but I do tend to and then get a lot of grumbling about the burned or dried out dinner.

Just a thought.  Anyone who reads BCO without signing in can't see any avatars, so I'm wondering if Sunflowers can see all the lovely sunflower avatars should she venture back without signing in.   Maybe some encouraging words in your signatures might be a welcome addition.

Being a very creative group, I'm sure you'll think of lots of ideas to lift Sunflowers' spirits.

It wasn't the post about Home Ec that had the picture of Lovey in it. Just sayin'. It was the post about how much all my kitties meant to me. But, I "made it stop".

CLC .... Your daughter's creation is fantastic. You have to be proud of her. How old did you say she was? Wow, I'm impressed! I like crafty things and sewing but no crocheting or knitting. Hate cooking. In junior high home ex we made biscuits. I was a bit of a prankster so buttered and "peppered" the biscuit the teacher was to taste for our grade. Needless to say, the rest of my kitchen wasn't happy with their biscuit grade. And my mom grounded me for the weekend after the phone call home! Scoot, you made me laugh .... Homemakerish ... Too funny.

So I get an email from my BIL about one of those alty guys - the one that juices and does coffee enemas.  My dh asked me if I looked at the link - ummmm 1.5 hours long - don't think so!  Then I told my dh what this guy was proposing.  I get these unsolicited emails from so many friends and relatives - you would think by now (2.5 years later) they would have stopped.  Arrrgggghhhhhhh.

Tomorrow I am heading out of town with my dh for an overnight business trip - will have very limited internet access - ya'll take care.

Scoot - stay on those horsies!!!

Just got back from my first training bike ride - 1/2 hour was enough. I get scared of the traffic on the road parts but it doesn't take long to get to the bike track. I didn't do too badly if I may say so myself, but my bottom is sore even though I work padded bike pants under my shorts. I'll stick with that ride a few times a week for a couple of weeks and then try to increase it. The damm seat shifted a couple of times - needs looking at.

Pooped Susie :) - that means tired in Oz speak

Late to the cooking party ... I can cook, but I hardly do anymore because DH only likes about 15 things (and we work all the time).  Pre-DH, I entertained as part of my job overseas, but -- I quit, got divorced, and now I don't do that much anymore.  Although I did cater my own wedding to current DH -- a nice brunch for 125.  20 homemade quiches ... I actually had fun!

I used to sew, too -- when I was a starving grad student, I used to make my own play clothes rather than buy them.  I wasn't an outstanding seamstress, but play clothes were good enough.  I haunted the remnant tables.  But now I don't sew either -- could buy clothes off the clearance rack for cheaper than I could sew them and I'm coming up on retirement, so I don't need any more clothes either!  Tongue out

I have never knitted or crocheted.  (My mother didn't either -- nor did she sew, although she was an excellent cook ...of the "cook it until it's good and dead" Midwestern variety).  One day I'll learn to knit or crochet -- but only after I retire and I am done with all the music lessons I'll be taking!  Laughing

Riley, Lovey is beautiful!  What a sweet little face!  I hope the kids settle down and you don't have to place Lovey somewhere else.  I'm sure someone will take her right away, but -- I know you don't want to give her up!

Hugs & smooches to everyone else -- Scoot, STAY SEATED!  Chickadee, BOOOORRRRRIINNNGGG!!! (zzzzzzzz)

    XOXO

    L
