Gorgeous SUNNY day here, whew, what a relief after the unseasonalable heat.

Hope any friends in CO are not near the fire, and those in the UK are staying dry.  Strange world....

Sadly, this is very true in Seattle these days. It's about 59 degrees right now.  I'd gladly take some of the heat from some of you-maybe make it so we all have a nice average temp-maybe about 80?

Asking for advice from the puppy folks...

We just got back from a weekend vacation.

The neighbor was taking care of our dogs.

7 month old foster puppy came out of her crate but would not go outside or back in the crate.

She was trembling, growling etc.

She has met the neighbor before and seemed ok with him.

He spent a good deal of time trying to catch her and so left her out inside the house.

She ripped up a photo album, peed/pooped in house, chewed on the dining room chair etc.

I had not idea she would behave this way.

When he called me on vaca he was out of breath and I told him to try sitting with the other dogs and some peanut butter and see if she would come to him.  No go.

Any ideas for the future?

Bluester you never, ever give a dog a cooked bone.................

bones and if you feed your dog meat should always be raw..............

 raw bones are excellent for the pooch...........

I always thought the marrow was good for a dog. I also heard raw was okay but not cooked. The bones can splinter when cooked. It's funny because you see them in the store with something on them to make them taste good. I always thought they were cooked, but maybe not.

I will add we never give any bones to out 2 dogs, but they do get raw hamberger meat when we bring it home!

blue we had something very similar happen a few years back. Keep a close eye on what's going on at the vet. We didn't and got a call a few hours later he had died. Our personal vet felt the  emergence hospital had given to many pain killers to quickly. That is why no bones for your dogs. Good luck!

That sounds similar to the mistake I made a couple weeks ago.

Mind you, I worked at a vet office all through high school.

We had mealybugs on our tomato plants.

The neighbor said to put used coffee grounds all along the base of the plants.

Well, I did and a couple hours later realized that foster puppy was acting like a total whack.

Looked outside and all the coffee grounds had been eaten?

Our puppy was sitting still but her eyes were zooming around in her head.

Called my vet who said "You know, coffee can kill a dog.  Did you not learn anything when you worked here?"

OK, I was in high school.

She said I could induce vomiting but I was not sure how long it had been since ingested.

Told me to keep a close eye and take her to ER if needed.

She bounced around the room for a couple of hours then started to go to sleep.

My daughter thought she was dying but she was obviously getting tired.

Next day seemed fine.

Oh dear Blue - how awful.

On the bone thing - have NEVER given bones to dogs - only milk bone dog biscuits - did break down once and give previous dog a "greenie" supposed to be wonderful - he nearly strangled on it and required a vet's intervention - then I googled and found there were many complaints about these supposedly healthy treats - I think boring old "milk bones" have been around forever for a reason.

That said, we had a pair of labs who ate everything - doors, desks, shoes, socks you name it they ingested it and managed to live to 15 and 14 years respectively.

Heck of a way to start the week isn't it?  She looks soooo pathetic in the picture - how is Virgil handling her absence?

I don't get it - I've always given bones to my dogs - both raw and cooked, but usually raw and NEVER EVER chicken bones.  The dogs would chew on 'em for hours and then go bury 'em.  They never had any health problems as a result of bones.  But it really sucks that your baby got sick.  No more bones for him!!!!

Blue-----So sad about Lilah, is Virgil handling this episode all right or is he wanting extra attention in this emergency? 

    Years ago we had a Lab/Coyote mix that enjoyed apples {NO NOT APPLE},ice cream and most table scraps,and she was always SKINNY,ribs showing,etc.  One Thanksgiving she ate all the turkey meat left on the bones and then the bones, she cleaned out the roasting pan!  Camping she ate a 5lb ham,and once got a 2lb box of See's candy from under Christmas tree, without putting any other packages in a mess.  She was a really good dog and miss her.  Animal tales are so much fun and so much misery!!!!!!
