The pool pump is finally installed!!! Got to wait a while while the glue on the pipes dries, but it is SO quiet compared to the old one. It's a 3 speed so we can save heaps in electricity costs and I get a bonus $250 from the electricity provider for buying an energy efficient pump. The pool guy was sweet and dumped a lot of chlorine in the pool for me seeing it's been out of commission for 3 weeks.
I'm avoiding the start of the packing - wish we could just stay home - funny I still feel that way - home is safe. At least I've got all weekend to pack - I am clever in waiting until Monday to go.
-
Ok clothes all selected, now to decide whether to iron them or not - could do it as we need them each day. I'm thinking maybe only iron the pants. Seeing it's cold down there, maybe no one will notice the shirt under the coat is unironed
Sigh... -
SusieQ, I don't travel, but a friend who does alot, ROLLS all her clothes, amazing, I've watched her pack & unpack and everything fits and comes our perfectly, no crinkles...
Happy visiting new grandbaby...yummy smells, lots of cuddles, and pictures!
-
Happy trails, Susie!
-
Sunflowers ... I roll all my clothes when I pack. It's great for preventing wrinkles!
hugs,
Bren

OK, SusieQ - now you know to roll your clothes ;-) Anybody who makes those GORGEOUS hanging baskets, has gotta know about packing clothes too.
IT IS SUNNY TODAY. We have had SO much rain, and I weep for the farmers around me, so many of their crops have rotted in the ground, replanting now. Think of myself as a peaceful person, about to KILL the chipmunk if I ever find it who went thru the Zuccini plants and DUG OUT EACH ONE, bit the growing little green sprouts, SPIT THEM OUT ON THE GROUND, and left a mess. Wish they were such cute chirping creatures, who sit on top of the stone walls around my cabin, and chirp and dance. BUT, eating ALL my zuccini plants. So far, they've left the lettuce alone, guess they don't like the kind I plant. They did dig up EACH garlic bulb the say after I planted them, must've decided they didn't like the smell, and didn't even nibble, so I could replant each one.
-
Sun -- Is this your first time planting zucchini? If so, you should know that you don't actually need more than TWO plants, which will give you more zucchini than you AND your neighbours can consume! My suggestion is to start the plants indoors, and then transplant, using a chipmunk-proof covering -- say, a big, wide-mouth glass jar. Once the leaves and stems develop, the chippies won't like the feel of them in their mouths. (Written with fingers crossed, of course!).
We have lots of squirrels and chipmunks around here, and I believe a little "inter-breeding" took place in early spring, because one little animal is most decidedly a combo. Would that be a squimunk or a chiprel?
We've been eating lettuce, arugula and green onions from the garden for a month or so, and fresh strawberries too. And, I'll be picking fresh tomatoes from a potted tomato plant this weekend.
Susie, I tried the rolled-up clothes thingy. Hmmmm, must have done it wrong! Anyhow, have a lovely visit with the new baby.

linda
it was just ONE, which I had tenderly treated indoors, until the soil dried out. A friend gave it to me with the SAME warning - only plant this one ;-))))
Will see if I can get another & start over - like the idea of mason jar....really angry, as I think chipmunks are so cute. A friend said they'd devastated her strawberry patch - but left zuccini alone...
-
Lindasa - too sweet! (about the squipmunk...)
Rolling clothes is a great space saver, although some garments are more amenable to it than others.

And we thought he was gone. Best part, he sings about a rainbow. He forgot to add caballus, or is it pullanus??? hahahahhahahaaahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Rolling does work according to my daughter, but they have to be ironed in the first place - I only iron clothes the day I'm to wear it, so rolling won't help if they are already wrinkled
I do usually iron before we travel, but if you saw the pile, you'd skip it too. I've decided just to iron the pants. -
wrinkles are very fashionable
-
I'm heartbroken - I hate taking Poppy to the vet when we go away. I miss her already but I do have a big scratch on my chest to remember her. Unfortunately she saw the cage before I could grab her, so we had a bit of a chase behind beds and under furniture before I could catch her.
-
Ok - clothes packing done - I compromised and ironed all of the pants, most of my tops and none of Steve's
He covers up with a jumper anyway, but I usually wear an open jacket. My knees are aching now although I did break it up into 2 stints at the ironing board. I'll give him full marks - he just cleaned up outside and swept the pool cover and around the pool. Now only toiletries, books, camera etc to pack. I'll have to give the garden a good water this afternoon, then I'll relax until we leave. -
Talk to you all when I get back - be good
-
Have a good trip susie...but be good? aren't you asking a lot?
-
Tongue in cheek

I'm all ready. Steve having breakfast. Cab due in half an hour. Woke up feeling sick in the stomach. I had a glass of milk and a somac tab. I get so nervous when we go away - hoping everything will go according to plan.
D-head SIL is already causing trouble and we aren't even there yet. He wants to crash my lunch at the winery with ChrissyB - lots of swear words coming from both of us.
-
Blue
He did sing about the wocket in his pocket.

-
Wonder how big it was?

My two week hiatus into pumpkindom is coming to an end. I start a new project/new life tomorrow.
Have a good week, all.

All of BCO seems quieter than usual, not just this thread - or am I wrong? The "Active Topics" don't seem to register postings with as much frequency.
-
Hi, Athena,
I don't post much, just too much of a hassle with new format, scroll, scroll, and get lost looking for anything.
BUT, I just started a thread in Advocacy Forum for this: True Cost of Healthcare( USA) - TERRIFYING. Knew some of it, but still reading the 63 page PDF download. http://www.truecostofhealthcare.org/summary
-
Sounds interesting, Sun....will pop over and take a look when I get the chance.
-
I am not posting as much. It's the new format but to be honest, I can't quite put my finger on my problem. I don't feel as attached I guess. But for new people coming in, they will be more used to this format than I since they won't know the difference. I hope.
Happy day to all.
-
Hi Everyone,
I don't post as much as before either. I think Marple is right ... something is 'off' and I can't put my finger on it.
Maybe it's the new format. I'm just not 'feeling it' like I used to.
I was a happy camper for two days ... I had a ton of work come in.
Athena .. Best of luck in your new project!
Hope everyone is doing well, and that our Blue is getting some answers to her pain.
hugs,
Bren

I think, Bren and Marple, that you both "put (your) finger on it" - it's the atmosphere. The best analogy I found that makes sense to me, personally, is that it's like being in the suburbs. Suburbs can be very pretty, peaceful, etc.... but they make me feel flat. This new format is a pleasant enough shade of grays and blues, but the bunched up little writing and the "manicured" unused left side and need for endless scrolling (meaning, you can't just "walk" there - you have to get in your car and drive) just don't make it an easy place to visit. All those traffic lights and road bumps!
I don't understand how in the world the BCO techie designers thought that a group of mostly women, mostly past their twenties, and largely physically ill and in some cases perhaps homebound by illness would rush to use the site on their mobile. Yes, 25 percent apparently do, but what about the other 75 percent?
I wonder if they are having second thoughts.
-
I don't care for the new format -- especially the wasted space on the left. I have gotten out of the habit of coming here because I find the format unpleasant to navigate, especially on my iPad. I have to scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll ....and scroll and scroll to get to the bottom of the page. I disliked the new format so much that I just didn't come anymore. And with fewer people posting fewer posts in the threads I frequent, I come here even less frequently. (To be fair, I didn't post a tremendous amount anyway after I came back, out of an abundance of caution and stalker-avoidance.) But I do come here far less frequently.

ditto what everybody b4 me has sad - it feels WRONG, unfriendly, and not worth the effort to SCROOOOOLLLLLLLL...too bad, it was a nice community, but nt anymore...really off putting...and makes me realize how THOUGHTLESS it is of BCO to not consider the sense of "Community" - the boards are why women come to BCO - reminds me of the "new" Coke, and Komen, another waste...
I really think THOUGHTLESS is the best description - as Athena circled around the word.
-
The powers that be at BCO can ignore our comments at their peril. They need only look at Active Topics to see what all of you are saying.
At "peak" times, there would be about five of six postings within the span of one minute ago. Now.....

Well you know mobile devices are the wave of the future, just like 8 tracks and boom boxes and Palm Pilots and Cds. Just sayin'.
On another topic. There is a really cute commercial for an insurance company in which the dad is spending too much on insurance for his car so he can't buy a dog for his kids. He buys them an opussum. The kids think it is dead but it is just playing possum.
