susie ... hoping your heat wave gives you a break soon.  I don't do well with the heat either and would rather deal with the cold given a choice.

The political stuff is getting ridiculous.  These guys act like they are auditioning for the Jerry Springer show ... each trying to oudo the other in the boneheaded whacko category.  It seems like every time Indiana hits the national news it is about some idiot ... the latest one is attacking the Girl Scouts.  The only good part is that the leader of his own party was right there publically eating GS thin mints while he read his crazy 'statement'.  You might like to know that the other thing I notice a lot here in the news is people running their cars into buildings.  Perhaps this guy ran his car into a building at some point and hit his head?

Bren ... glad you had a good time on your trip.  I have to tell you that my cashier at the grocery store yesterday looked so much like the pictures I've seen of you that I wanted to holler 'Bren!' and give her a big hug.  I didn't though ... doubt if she would have understood Smile

    Still worried about blue ...

Rabbit -- It's getting scary.  In Indiana:

Indiana (House Bill 1210wants to force doctors to lie to women about abortion causing breast cancer despite medical evidence to the contrary in order to discourage women from having abortions

    Congrats Anne - that's a wonderful milestone....

WR - really, attacking the Girl Scouts? - who knew Thin Mints could be evil? Terrifying to think these men are really trying to be President...just terrifying...

BLUE - sending good wishes, hope you're having a sunny day.

Congratulations Anne!  thats a fine reason to celebrate.  its early in the day for me--I'd best just have a mimosa.

hugs to blue---I hope you are feeling a little better.

On another topic, I am rethinking my position on The Handmaid's Tale  In the past I have said that I hated hated hated the book--its not that I hate all distopian literature, its just that particular one made me twitch.

    But.

As I keep reading crazy things about politicians who don't believe in contraception, doctors lying about abortion leading to breast cancer, pharmacists who don't want to give Plan B drugs to a woman who might be pregnant because the pharmacists' beliefs should outweigh the womans and the universities who want to close down their health centers, I can't help but think maybe we had better make ALL young women get out there and read the damned book so they can see just how bad it could get as we progress down a road that seems to be imposing the religious views of one group on the many and diminishing the right of a woman to control her own body.  Heck make that all women should read the book.

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Happy World Thinking Day to all WAGGGS supporters, in the USA and elsewhere.

To the best of my knowledge, Indiana Representative Bob Morris is not running for President.  Does Sunflowers know something about the subject that the rest of us don't?

The Girl Scouts at the national, corporate level have made some decisions in recent years that are not fully in line with their mission.  Once those decisions are made public, or even released to the general membership, the members of the organization, and the parents of the younger members quickly, and forcefully express their concerns, and many of those decisions are quickly reversed, or amended, frequently before the new policy is implemented.

The Girl Scouts have a three year cycle for their national conventions, so many decisions made in between those major gatherings are made at the executive level, and may not be fully in line with the attitudes of the general membership.

One huge difference between the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts is that BSA excludes some people because of who they are, while GSUSA is more concerned about their leaders' words and actions in front of the girls than about how they live in their private lives.

Thanks WR - we have had a cool change and some rain, but Summer can't be over too soon for me.

Big headlines here yesterday when our Foreign Minister (previously Prime Minister) resigned - big fight looming in the next few days. Steve and I are loving every minute of it. Our current government is the total pits. Hope we have an election soon.

Work is driving me crazy - it's like working in a concentration camp. Got into trouble for working on 2 things at once - good grief. The bird that's running the show is pathetic. Still, I'm getting some good work done - hope it's eventually appreciated.

Groan for some of the rest.... that primary is truly a race to the bottom.

ETA - So some in Indiana would encourage medical malpractice? What chicanery malarky and a waste of taxpayers money.

(eyeroll about the craziness out there -- forcing doctors to lie and men desperately attempting to control women AGAIN!). Agree totally with WR, 3M, Sunflowers, Athena, Lindasa, Scoot.... Enough already. We who are old enough to remember are not too old to take to the streets again, and are gearing up to do so. 3M, you are right. We should show the youngsters just what they are heading toward if they don't wake up!

Anne, congrats on the anniversary. Here's to many more!

And here's to our sisters (including my own beloved sister Linda who died last week) who we lost to this vicious disease. My heart breaks anew every day thinking of our losses. I wish I had pithy, meaningful words to say, but I am just reeling from so much loss.

I love you, Allison, and I miss you terribly. I hope you are dreaming of happier days to come.

Love to my virtual sisters here. WR is right - our relationships are no less real, no less strong, no less meaningful for having started in cyberspace. I thank the interwebs for bringing us together.

It is not relevant if the Indiana guy is running for president or not.  His thoughts are based on nothing but fearmongering, as usual against women.

Why is it that the republicans are so much more interested in the government intervening in women's bodies and people's sex lives than they are in the economy? Especially when they are the group advocating less government? It is frightening that such nonsense opinions can gain any traction at all in the US.

    Hi Friends!

It's been a beautiful day in SW Virginia.  The temperature hit 63 degrees today, and I really enjoyed walking the dogs in the fields this afternoon.

Anne ... Congratulations on 10 years!  Awesome news!  My five year mark is coming up, and you give me hope.  The more years that go by, the more anxious I get around mammogram time.

Patmom ... I don't know what World Thinking Day is.  Oops, I ended that sentence with a preposition!  Oh, and I don't know what a WAGGGGG is either.

Happy .. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Linda.  I know you are still grieving.  I am worried about Allison too.  I wish there was more news from Julia.

Sue ... Hoping things get better for you at work.

Are any of you guys following the Republican candidates?  I haven't been that invested in what's going on, but I tell you what ... that Santorum scares the bejeezuz out of me.

Hope everyone had a good day today.

    hugs,

    Bren

World Thinking Day is the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts international celebration of the Scouting organizations for girls around the world.

It is celebrated every February 22, which was the birthday of Lord and Lady Baden Powell who were the founders of the scouting movement in England more than a century ago.

It seemed appropriate to acknowlege the day since Girl Scouts were being discussed.

These friendships are as real and valuable to me as any. You folks will never know how much you have done for me.

Waving at Blue - not wanting to pressure her out of her comfort zone, but saying hello.

Glad you had a nice trip, Bren!

Susie, I hope they appreciate your work. A friend of mine said he thinks we are turning into a fascist society with the corporate hierarchies and opportunities for abuse. I sometimes wonder if that is true in some countries.

Gee-I never knew I was promoting homosexuality and abortion during the 10 years I was a Girl Scout leader. I do know that we had 2 of our girls come out as lesbians when they were seniors in high school, and no one really cared one way or another. I guess I should have kicked them out. (not).

    Congratulations Anne!

    Wishing Alpal comfort and peace.

Thanks Girls - I've spoken to someone outside of my area who is responsible for training this chick. I related examples and he is genuinly concerned she is micro managing. I'm not the only unhappy one, just the only one who is game enough to speak up - hopefully time and experience will improve her attitutde.

Mary - see what the Girl Scouts did to those two poor girls?!?!  *eye roll*

People will be whoever they're going to be.  As long as they're not hurting someone, why should anyone care?

susieq - Good luck with that one.  I've found the best solution to a bad boss is to switch jobs.

Thanks for all the good thoughts, everyone.

I watch these political debates and antics with mixed feelings. How low can they go? Yet I cannot divert my eyes from that trainwreck. (I was going to add some comments, but why stir the pot and make people eat their brussel sprouts again. No, I won't go there!)

After two days of strong winds with gusts to 93 mph, we're having a calm day. God I hate wind. Made for really rough driving coming home along the foothills yesterday. Overturned trucks and trailers, precarious power lines, and grass fires. Then an inch of snow, now sunny and calm.

Everyone have a good day as we prepare for the weekend!

    Hi Everybody!

OMG .. I got banned from BCO this a.m.  Thankfully, the Mods were quick to respond to my email and reinstate me.  It hurt my feelings to be "deleted by the community."  I have a very good idea who the "community" is and they just aren't playing by the rules.

Scoot .. I'm with you.  When I worked for Corporate America, the only solution to a bad boss was to change jobs or wait it out and fly under the radar.  Usually the bad boss was cycled out of his/her position, so it was just a matter of waiting for that to happen.  I had the worst job ever working in Human Resources.  Each and every supervisor I had there has been fired or left the company!

I hope we hear something from Julia today about Allison.  She is constantly on my mind.

Hope everyone has a great day,

    hugs,

    Bren

Mary, Scoot - even tho Im almost "pre diabetic" I wanna go buy BOXES & BOXES of Thin Mints and stand on the corner & give them away.  Wish my old uniform was still around - it might just fit over one calf???  I do have my PIINS tho!!!

Stay safe Anne -  sounds wild out there.  Meanwhile, the folks making Maple Syrup in this area say they're boiling ( sap in HUGE vats) earlier than ever in memory. Worried too,  Weeks earlier, but  need warm days and COLD nights to keep the sap running - and it's in the mid 50's now, don't know about the night temps.  But it's all very strange...

Bren - sorry you got whomped on the other thread - really thought at least that one was a safe place.  Such wonderful healing words usually exchanged there - but like Scoot, the current state of what we used to call politics is making so many of us sick - I loved the quote from Buddha about what anger does to the person "holding" it.

Can't change jobs unfortunately. She is not my boss, just the chick organising the work we do for the project I'm on. She's just learning and so far seems to be upsetting everyone. Good news is I've been requested to help on another project for a week or 2 so that should provide some light relief.

    Poor Sue!

I have had crazy bosses where I could find a new job and crazy bosses where I couldn't.  I found the best treatment for crazies when you have no way to leave for whatever reason was daily martinis with other sufferers. . . . . .of course nowadays not sure what I would do since a daily martini would cause all sorts of complications. . . .hourly dark chocolate?

Chocolate and wine are my ways to deal with a bad boss. I tried venting to a friend and it got back to him. I hope we were overheard but I will be really cautious what I tell that woman from now on. The boss came in and told me what he had heard. I do give him some credit for that. He also told me my job was one of the most important ones there. I would have felt a lot better if he had said I was valuable but never mind. I also fantasize about the perfect job. I don't want to quit, mainly because I get my full pension in 2 1/2 years and a tiny pittance if I don't wait, but it is so much more stressful now than it was 6 months ago, before he became my boss.

    Ok, Bren, listen up:

I have no idea who deleted what post of yours, but PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY. This business about being deleted "by the community" is a big fat lie. It isn't as though you are being censured by good citizens. Rather, one or two fanatics are pressing a button. If BCO wants to call that : "the community" it's not your fault. You are the nicest, warmest person, nice and warm to a fault, hear me? Tongue out If someone deletes you, in some cases it is probably an honor.

Threadmates: hands up if you think Bren should NOT TAKE A DELETION PERSONALLY.....

(Objective: to protect Bren's feelings from being needlessly hurt)

I've got TWO paws up. Can't sustain this pose for long (as pridemates are rubbing heads with me), so could anyone else please join in?
