Afterthought for Rosemary ... you can easily puree canned cat food with one of those hand held blenders ... just add water.  I had to do that for Snickers when she had a jaw tumor and couldn't swallow.  The other 2 cats loved it that way also and now expect that service to continue ... and it usually does .. I am very trainable :)

    Hi Buddy's!

It's a gorgeous day in SW Virginia.  Just got back from running the dogs in the fields.  The sun is shining and the temps are in the mid 50's.

Rosemary .. I am so sorry to hear about your kitty.  I don't know anything about cats, but if removing his teeth will help him, I think it's a good idea.

Rabbit .. I saw on the news this a.m. that the Pekinese won best in show.  I was rooting for the German shepard.  I had a Pekinese when I was younger .. they do have a hard time breathing and mostly just want to take naps.  All that hair is a huge hassle.

Athena .. Can't believe you haven't been to the dentist in so long.  You must have fabulous teeth!  I have to go next week for my 6 month cleaning and I dread it.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
    hugs,

    Bren

Okay so if that is a dog, I'm glad I have a cat, sick as he may be.

We will have his teeth pulled. He has had a cortisone shot which will take care of his pain for a couple of weeks. Yes cortisone shots work wonders, not just for joints, but he can't be on them long term. I just want to find the cause because I think if we treat that he will have a better chance of not losing every tooth..

He will eat tuna smashed up and baby food meat, but he is also allergic to grain so most canned food is out. His favorite food is boneless chicken breast so that can go in the blender. I just don't want to cause him a lot of pain for nothing.

Thank you guys for your advice and your listening ears. I am so stressed now from work and family and the cat it feels good to be able to vent.

Speaking of venting, there is a thread about a government agency that is becoming a train wreck. Wow. I tried adding my two cents but was told I was off topic. I'm glad I can go onto any topic I want here.

How can that mobile piece of fluff be a dog?  Looks like we can't spell dog backwards anyone....

safe travels Bren, and Otter, hope the time is healing...

Scoot- good luck with yoru shoulder.  I had one of those shots years ago, in my knee, and it turned to mush.  Gives me the chills thinking of it, maybe it's different when not in a weight bearing joint. I still smell like a walking peppermint stick ( Ben Gay) or Menthol ( Tiger Balm) most days - but it really helps...

Anyone else having the STRANGEST winter weather - I mean high 40's & no snow in New England is just strange...strange....poor VT, no Fall leaf peepers, now no snow for skiers...makes me sad for them...

Back from the store.  If I hadn't played around here for so long I would have gotten back home without getting rained on :)  Lovely rainy spring weather we are having here.

Rosemary ... my cats like this vitamin supplement.  It's the only one they will have anything to do with and it's a gel type so helps with the hairball stuff too I think.  Just in case you are interested since you can't use most cat foods.  http://www.carealotpets.com/search.aspx?keyword=Felovite

Allergies are a very likely culprit for his troubles.  The trick is figuring out what all he is allergic to.  Neighbor was almost at the point of thinking they were going to have to put their dog to sleep due to all the skin and stomach and bowel problems he was having.  They got him on different food ... they went from chicken to a lamb formula ... and he's his old self again.  We don't feed our dogs anything with any grain other than brown rice because they have stomach issues with grains.  Makes you wonder what kind of crap they are putting in pet food nowdays.

Waving at Athena, Bren, Sunflowers and otter!

Well, I have lousy teeth, not for lack of care and effort.

Otter, travel safe. Bren, how exciting! I would LOVE to go to CA! In fact, I may have to go next week for work, but yuck on that. Rosemary, I am like you, love my fur babies. Hope he gets better soon. Wabbit, I agree with Athena, I miss you when you are gone.

Missing Blue and sending good vibes and hugs her way.

Hi Girls - good to hear you are all still here.

Funny thing happened this morning. I woke up at 6:10am and told Steve the alarm didn't go off. Apparently someone turned it of at 5:30 - me!! I have absolutely no recollection of doing it, none at all - must have been my sockpuppet :)

Athena - love your fangs - looking good - must make it so easy to eat Zebra.

Yeahhhh, I don't think that's a dog.  Dust mop with the handle removed, maybe?

Rosemary - which thread is that?  And let me guess - it was started by someone whose political affiliation rhymes with Fleapublican?

    Scoot

    It starts with must read.

My DH talked to Dr Katie, the vet who saw the furbaby. She says we probably will never know the cause. He was telling me this and all I could thnk was,"Dr KATIE? Does she still have her braces. ?" Sorry, that is one of the disadvantages of gettig old. My son says it can be genetic. My friend thinks he's a lemon. The funny thing is that he looks like a cat.

Considering I've had 2 late nights in a row, I'm not surprised I did that. I still made my usual bus - just didn't get to check in here and read the news. I can do that at work :) while I'm waiting for my code to build.

rosemary, so sorry about your kitty!! I have mine on a "raw" diet now that I get at the pet health food store. It's called Primal Nuggets, and is only meat, ground bones, and veggies. Not cheap, but the cats love it, are getting weaned off their kibble addiction, and no longer have stinky poo!

It's food even a lioness would love. Comes in turkey, chicken with shrimp, venison, quail, beef and salmon--everything but mouse and chipmunk, which are Miko's favorite foods!

Our chief bartender is suggesting a toast to our thread leader, Blue...anyone up for drinks? Doesn't have to be alcoholic.

Oh, our bartender and, well, the whole BCO B&G staff is recommending to customers to log in before they read. Safety first, everyone. Settings are important.Wink

Rosemary, one of my dear departed cats (Siamese) had half his teeth removed at the age of about 10.  Another furball (also Siamese) had ALL his teeth removed at the age of 9.  Yes, it's a genetic thing with certain Oriental cats.  Even my sweet Abby has had to have teeth removed, including one of her eyeteeth (which gives her a somewhat lopsided smile at times...)  With all three cats, I tried the vet's suggestion to brush their teeth --- hahahahaha!

Bartender, thanks for the glass of chardonnay.  It was delicious!

Oh, and I have never liked Pekinese!  My best friend's mother bred them -- vicious little beasts who liked nothing better than to up the fear factor every time I entered the house.  And the Cat Fancy has done irreparable damage to several breeds of formerly beautiful and healthy pussins...

    Rosemary -

Thanks for the info.  I read a bit but decided to keep out of the fray.  There's no amount of discussion that will change the minds of those who are government-phobic.  Having said that, about a decade ago a former FDA person "blew the whistle" on separation of duties, or the lack thereof, within the FDA.  The persons and groups responsible for approving drugs were also in charge of monitoring those drugs post-approval.  WOW, talk about incentive for fudging results!

I'm sure it could use a thorough going-over (*technical term*) and perhaps restructuring.  But as far as "ruining" the supplement market??  Bah.

A few more thoughts on government agencies -

    1.  They're run by people and government people have the same character flaws as those in small or big business.  Mainly, avoid taking responsibility for screw-ups and maximize the "feel good" moments.  Who can forget Lee Iacocca's disastrous decision to NOT fix the exploding Pintos at a cost of $11/car, because it would be cheaper to pay out claims for deaths and injuries.

    2.   Government agencies, by and large, were formed in response to a need.  Since y'all know how lazy government people are (*sarcasm*), can you imagine anyone forming an agency just for the hell of it?  If we didn't have the FDA, snake-oil or shark-cartilage salesmen would rule the world and many would die from it.  These are generalities, of course, but I think you get my drift.

    3.  It's easy to criticize an agency based on one or two personal experiences or headlines.  Until you've worked within or with that agency, seen the dedication of the people who work there, and see the good that they do, you don't have a clue.

And yes, I'm biased because I come from a family of dedicated, hard-working public servants who work 60-80 hours a week at their "cushy" government jobs.

    So there.  Nyah.

    Good morning ladies,

I'm doing a lot better. Not spending as much time in front of the computer these days. Just had to mix up the routine and that has helped. Eliminating the ldopa was the problem. I am now taking 1/4 tablet 2 times a day and am almost back to my normal self. (Gotta have my "dope".  hehehehehehe!)  Been going down to my moms as she has that bad cold I had last month. Poor thing. She's on antibiotics too. Virgil was really sick last week too. I think he had a doggy flu.

    Thinking of you all!

MorningBlue and welcome - glad you can come up for air. A change of routine also helps.

Also, I know it's early but Scoot has the quote of the day:

"ince y'all know how lazy government people are (*sarcasm*), can you imagine anyone forming an agency just for the hell of it?"

I would love to see what some of BCOs masters (mistresses) of sophistry have to say in response. (*also sarcasm*)

And to the Moderators - I'M TIRED OF SEEING SHERRYL CROW'S SMILING FACE NEXT TO A "YOU HAVE BREAST CANCER" BANNER.

Granted, breast cancer is an awesome experience but I'd rather not see a smiling reminder every day.
