Afterthought for Rosemary ... you can easily puree canned cat food with one of those hand held blenders ... just add water.  I had to do that for Snickers when she had a jaw tumor and couldn't swallow.  The other 2 cats loved it that way also and now expect that service to continue ... and it usually does .. I am very trainable

Okay so if that is a dog, I'm glad I have a cat, sick as he may be.

We will have his teeth pulled. He has had a cortisone shot which will take care of his pain for a couple of weeks. Yes cortisone shots work wonders, not just for joints, but he can't be on them long term. I just want to find the cause because I think if we treat that he will have a better chance of not losing every tooth..

He will eat tuna smashed up and baby food meat, but he is also allergic to grain so most canned food is out. His favorite food is boneless chicken breast so that can go in the blender. I just don't want to cause him a lot of pain for nothing.

Thank you guys for your advice and your listening ears. I am so stressed now from work and family and the cat it feels good to be able to vent.

Speaking of venting, there is a thread about a government agency that is becoming a train wreck. Wow. I tried adding my two cents but was told I was off topic. I'm glad I can go onto any topic I want here.

Allergies are a very likely culprit for his troubles.  The trick is figuring out what all he is allergic to.  Neighbor was almost at the point of thinking they were going to have to put their dog to sleep due to all the skin and stomach and bowel problems he was having.  They got him on different food ... they went from chicken to a lamb formula ... and he's his old self again.  We don't feed our dogs anything with any grain other than brown rice because they have stomach issues with grains.  Makes you wonder what kind of crap they are putting in pet food nowdays.

My DH talked to Dr Katie, the vet who saw the furbaby. She says we probably will never know the cause. He was telling me this and all I could thnk was,"Dr KATIE? Does she still have her braces. ?" Sorry, that is one of the disadvantages of gettig old. My son says it can be genetic. My friend thinks he's a lemon. The funny thing is that he looks like a cat.

Rosemary, one of my dear departed cats (Siamese) had half his teeth removed at the age of about 10.  Another furball (also Siamese) had ALL his teeth removed at the age of 9.  Yes, it's a genetic thing with certain Oriental cats.  Even my sweet Abby has had to have teeth removed, including one of her eyeteeth (which gives her a somewhat lopsided smile at times...)  With all three cats, I tried the vet's suggestion to brush their teeth --- hahahahaha!

Bartender, thanks for the glass of chardonnay.  It was delicious!

Oh, and I have never liked Pekinese!  My best friend's mother bred them -- vicious little beasts who liked nothing better than to up the fear factor every time I entered the house.  And the Cat Fancy has done irreparable damage to several breeds of formerly beautiful and healthy pussins...

A few more thoughts on government agencies -

1.  They're run by people and government people have the same character flaws as those in small or big business.  Mainly, avoid taking responsibility for screw-ups and maximize the "feel good" moments.  Who can forget Lee Iacocca's disastrous decision to NOT fix the exploding Pintos at a cost of $11/car, because it would be cheaper to pay out claims for deaths and injuries. 

2.   Government agencies, by and large, were formed in response to a need.  Since y'all know how lazy government people are (*sarcasm*), can you imagine anyone forming an agency just for the hell of it?  If we didn't have the FDA, snake-oil or shark-cartilage salesmen would rule the world and many would die from it.  These are generalities, of course, but I think you get my drift.

3.  It's easy to criticize an agency based on one or two personal experiences or headlines.  Until you've worked within or with that agency, seen the dedication of the people who work there, and see the good that they do, you don't have a clue.

And yes, I'm biased because I come from a family of dedicated, hard-working public servants who work 60-80 hours a week at their "cushy" government jobs.
