Nothing exists in a vacuum.  Everything's related, and a change in one situation creates a ripple effect.

Speaking of dysfunction, here's another Story From Yesterday:

Capitol policies do not allow visitors to carry cell phones and other electronics into the gallery.  They have a special drop-off point for such items and they give you a plastic claim card.

We went into the House gallery after I turned over my worldly electronic possessions to the House drop-off point.  Of course, nothing happening there so we went to the Senate gallery.  The Senate has their own drop-off point for electronics, and they demanded that I retrieve my stuff from the House drop-off point and give it to the Senate people.

EFool:, "Why don't you just have one room for both?"

Guard:  "Because one's the Senate, and one's the House."

EFool:  But wouldn't it be more efficient to have just one room, with one set of employees?

Guard:  "No, because it's the Senate and the House."

    *silence*

EFool:  "But it's the UNITED (clasping hands together for effect) States.  Shouldn't the two houses work together?"

Guard:  "No, because it's the Senate and the House."

    EFool:  *head explodes*

    Lindasa,

We heard about the new passports in the news recently. Renewal passports will have an e-chip in them as well as the British coat of arms displayed on the front cover.

The other change which is making the sleeping dogs grumble in their sleep, is Harper spending money to have the queen's portrait in the entrance of all Canadian embassies around the world. I mean really!, what is wrong with a good looking RCMP esp. in a speedo. LOL

My NZ passport has the NZ coat of arms and a silver fern. DH's passport has the Australian coat of arms.

Our senate passed the carbon tax legislation yesterday - now the price of everything will go up - sad day for Australia - like it will make any difference to the earth's temp - not. Just a cash grab from the government.

painterly -- I just googled images of the new Canadian passport and it definitely has the Canadian, not the UK, Coat of Arms on the cover.
A good-looking Mountie in a speedo (wearing the hat, brownbelt and brown boots and riding a magnificent black stallion!) would indeed be preferable to a photograph of the Queen -- I agreeCool. Every embassy would become a tourist attraction LOL.

I worry less about these sorts of things than I do about spending ridiculous amounts of taxpayer money on new prisons because of the imagined increase in "unreported" felonies!  And the withdrawal of the gun registry.  And the distinct possibility of bringing back social conservative contentious issues such as the death penalty and some others I won't mention.

    susieq -

I can't see Australia's efforts doing much good if the rest of the world doesn't follow suit.  Perhaps they will, and we can credit Australia for being trail-blazers!

The reality is that people won't change what they're doing until it becomes impossibly expensive or impossible to continue on the same course.

I'm for it - but the US and China must adopt such policies, as must other large developing economies like Brazil, for any carbon emissions control to have true effect. There is a place for fossil fuels, since solar cannot deliver at all times of the day or year, of course. Fortunately, the price of solar power (at least in the US) is going down, so it may soon be as cost effective as it is environmentally sound.

I am for cap and trade. Not going to happen in the US any time soon, though. Our congress is too busy doing nothing and our president is too busy trying to find a way to run the country in spite of that.

Well, the House didn't do nothing.  They took off for (another) week.

And the Senate voted not to further debate on a bill.  And they have the next few days to discuss exactly how they're not going to debate.

And two teams of people man the separate House & Senate verboten stuff rooms.

Enjoyous - love it!!! your new name that is.

I don't believe in global warming and I believe in direct action over taxes. I am a bit of a greeny in that I hate pollution, but CO2 is not pollution. It's a total joke here, they'll collect the money and then give it back to families to help them cope with the costs - absolutely no incentive for the big polluters to change, they will just pass the costs on to the consumer - a big money go round. We earn too much to get any tax break unfortunately - we are the 10% :) Our government is so close to communism it makes me sick.

    Sorry for the rant.

Wish I had one Blue - I've got wind pains.

Feeling rather clever today - I fixed a bug in the software that was quite elusive. I love it when hard work pays off. Now I'm bored again - bummer.

Oh Blue - we hate tummy bugs - it's going around here too - only adults so far which is a little unusual.  Feel better soon.

At the risk of being berated for making an "off topic" comment, may I just note that Herman Cain is a total idiot, and that I had no idea the GOP was quite this desperate?

Just a question to the forum.  Tongue out

I don't think "Herman Cain" is off-topic at all.  Isn't it interesting that as far as we've come we still have harrassment issues in the work place - this man has no shame and the National Restaurant Association ought to be ashamed of itself both for its behaviour 12 years ago and now for not coming forward and taking this man on - frankly I wish he'd get off the airwaves - he's a pain in the........

Sandy, I agree with you, but I think this goes a bit deeper.  IMO they (TP) didn't think he would take off like he did, so they are putting a stop to "the nonsense" any way they can.

If I was a republican(and I am not) I would be appalled at the choices the party is putting forth for next year's election. The choice is so poor, that if Obama wins, and I think he will, it will be a hollow victory.
