    Wow, where has the summer gone?  It has been a while and I am glad to see you are all doing well. A big welcome to all the new gals; you have come to the right place!  I am doing well, too; just starting back to work this week (gradual return) and trying to get part of my life back.  Had appt with MO and she doesn't need to see me for 5 years!!!  YAY! Sending a great big (gentle) hug.

    Well, gals, we leave for a 10 day cruise on the 30th (9 more days woo hoo). Check out the itinerary. http://www.silversea.com/destinations/plan-voyage/?voyage=4133&year=2011

    We didn't go for the real expensive suite but did opt for the Royal Suite. Nice. I can't fit into any of the dresses I bought last year. Yell So as I was packing yesterday evening, I was frantically trying on stuff. I think I have enough stuff to wear.

    Barb,  I am stalking you.....just followed you on the women with more sense thread.   I am sure you will have a wonderful time on the cruise and I am also sure you look just great....you were getting a little too thin there for awhile. 

    I am off to the hospital for my bone scan injection.  It doesn't really matter what it shows as I never worry about the bones the way I do my liver.  I called last night and told them I want someone from IV therapy to give me the injection as the last time with that woman who said Oh, I can find a vein, was a nightmare.

    I shall be thinking of you...you know I have a monster aversion to needles, so I shall be cringing for you as well !

    I have an MRI on Sunday, not looking forwards to it, but must have before I go forward with back op. I had an awful thought yesterday....no-one said anything to me, and I didn't need it with first MRI 2 years ago...but suddenly thought they may be wanting contrast. You will see me on the world news, streaking out of the hospital, and down the streets !!

    I will be hoping for a sympathetic nurse, as I WILL NOT sit in a waiting room in a gown, with 10 strangers, ( mixed sex ) I have this argument everytime I need X ray or scan. There is no need to make everyone queue up in those silly little gowns that are tooshort/always have missing fasteners. I can be undressed in a minute, in privacy...and won't do it their way. So far I have won my argument, but one time they will come down on me and try and make me conform !! I get more worked up anticipating these spats with them than I do over the coming treatment.

    Barb...enjoy the cruise, looks like you will be visiting some lovely islands. Was watching a travel programe 2 days ago about St Vincents...looks idyllic.  Don't forget the pix !

    {{Marybe}} Here's hoping for good scans. Isabella, I, too, hate needles. If the person sticking is good, I can handle it but still HATE it. I received an immunization in grade school and the stupid school nurse hit a nerve in my upper arm. To this day, I have a significant dent in that arm. I still remember being unable to use that arm for a month.

    When I was 6 my dad got stationed in Japan and we had to get a whole slew of shots.  Then the military lost my shot records and I had to get the whole series again. During that re-do trauma I tensed and a needle broke off in my upper arm.  THEN, because I was so wary of needles by that time, it took another ten years to discover the reason I fainted when getting anti-b's was because I was allergic, not because I was a wuss (as my parents claimed) .... It took a long time to get past, and I still struggle to keep control.  Mostly I manage ok, but I'll certainly demand an experienced "sticker" these days!

    Here's hoping for good scans Isabella. I've not heard of Sunday scans, but will be thinking of you.

    I feel SO bad for all of you that fear needles - and rightly so!!!! Such horrid experiences at any age would set anyone off.

    When my son was 4 he had an enlarged node in his neck and had to get bloodwork. The nurse tech told me to hold him firmly in my lap so he wouldn't move. She told him it wouldn't hurt a bit. I did it differently. I put him in the chair and told him to look at me and tell me when it hurt. I saw the pain flash on his face (it killed me!!) and then he smiled! "Mom," he said, "I was going to tell you it hurt but then it stopped!" The nurse said she'd never seen anything like that. I hope I taught her something!!

     Well, let me tell you it did not go well AGAIN!!   I was so pissed when I got out of there...went to visit my friend Cyndi right after (and I should feel like a very petty little worm for griping at all after seeing how she is) and was going to pick up a muffin or something at the snack bar on the way to her room so I could take my meds that I need to eat with. I didnt have my wallet in my purse. 

    So anyway, I had called ahead last night and told them I wanted someone from IV therapy and they said no problem.  I got there at about 8:10 and my appt was 8:30 and I had to fill out all that usual repetitive paper work....meds, surgeries, symptoms, is there any chance you might be pregnant, when was your last period?   Geeze, why don't they just give you a copy from last time and have you note any changes.  Soooo, they got me back there at close to 8:45 and then I had to sit and wait for a nurse to come from IV therapy and believe me she should not be in that department.  She got there at about 9:15 and I told her all about my veins, how they are hard to find and then they roll and last time the one puffed up all the way down my arm....she says you have me nervous now, that I won't be able to find one....and I said No, you'll do fine, you are from IV therapy and do this all day long.  WRONG!!   She was bad....the place on my arm puffed up after she got the needle in....the one on my hand, she was not getting a blood return so then she is tapping around on my arm and I said Oh crap, go ahead and use my port.   The only reason I was going to have her use a vein is that one nurse had told me that the radio-active dye they use can build up around your port and just stays there.....Stupid thing to worry about I suppose, but I take some of these cautions to heart.   So finally at 9:40 she gets my port accessed and the other nurse opened up that canister and shot the stuff in and I was out of there and on my way to my friend's room so I could visit her and drink my water.  Well, they paged me at about 11 so I went back to C level and asked at the desk if it was OK to do it early....said my appt was at 11:30 and they were supposed to inject me at 8:30 and we were over an hour late....she said ask the tech.  The tech said oh it will be fine as long as you drank all your water.   So why do they even allow 3 hrs in-between if they don't need three hours......I guess to allow for the inept staff that can't find a vein!!  Ohhhh, I was mad and even though I do not have an aversion to needles, after they stick me more than once and are still having problems, I really feel like I am going to burst into tears. There has to be a better way to do this. I can notice myself how my veins just don't show up any longer and have been told chemo does this. So what happens when I have no veins left to use? I think they should start using some of those big fat ugly varicose ones on my leg....a blind man could hit one of those.

    Isabella, I know you hate being jabbed ( that's the term you use, right?), but hope that having this MRI done means maybe you will be getting your surgery sooner, rather than later.

    Thanks everyone for being there with me.....you guys can at least relate to what a PIA these scans can be. Not the actual scan, but the part that happens before getting on the table.   I tell my husband and he just makes a face.  He just about passes out when you mention a needle.

    Me too, Marybe. But I must admit that I am getting braver. Must be becoming inured to it.

    Isabella, I so hope you get the surgery done soon! You will feel soooo much better when you can get around like you used to.

    when I got chemo there was a patient there that would warm up her arm with a heating pad while she waited to be stuck...she swore by it..

    I've heard that if you drink a TON of water your veins will be fattened up. I have them use a vein on the back of my hand with a butterfly needle (kids one).

    Meant to add, of course when you're going for surgery and are fasting, you can't drink and then you get dehydrated! I was at the hospital for my excisional biopsy at 6 am and my surgery didn't happen until 3 pm!!! (I had a wire sticking out of my breast since 9 am!!!) They had SO much trouble getting a needle in, that they said "Put her out and we'll do it then." I have to wonder WHAT they did????

    Probably did a catheter delivery Barbe.  I've had so much trouble with veins that that's what they do with me for surgery .................ugh!  I hate the thought.

    I too hate the needles and use my port as often as I can.  What gets me is I tell them that the only good vein left is in my foot and when going in for surgery I tell them if they need to get an IV in quickly to use my foot and they inveribly try to use the vein in my neck which is impossible to find on me.  Only to find out after the surgery they tried a minimum of 3 times to put it in the neck and wound up putting it in my foot!  Why don't they ever listen to us, as many times and we get stuck, poked, pricked, bruised and blown veins you would think they would believe what we tell them.  UGH.  I have already had this discussion with the new PS and he wrote in big red letters to use the foot vein for any additional IVs.

    chrissy - it was sooo good to get to talk with you tonight.  We talked almost a whole hour!!!

    I like that gorilla pic Lisa.  It made me laugh.  He looks quite happy though.  It reminds me of the movie 'Harry and the Hendersons'.  I love the part where they are blow drying Harry and the 'Addams Family' show comes on TV.  They all look at each other and shake thir heads no.

    Hoo baby, they are killing me at my job. I work 8 hours then at night I have to prepare demos. This is the scenario that made me quit my job three years ago, They wooed me back and told me this would never happen again. Whatever. Praying hard for a new job.

    Well everyone I may be MIA some next week as I will be flying out to CA to take care of 3 grandchildren so my DD#1 can get some rest after the surgery she will have on Monday. Their ages are 10,6,and 2 months so I will be busy and tired by the end of the days there.  I'll try to post or at least stop by and read if I get a chance.  Just wanted to let you know I was not just dropping out or sight.  Hope every one has a great weekend and a good week next week.

    Jealous of the cruise, have real fun and a holiday. Today is the final of the Rugby world cup - we have to beat the French C'est un problem' the French tend to play dirty. We ahve been sitting on the veranda next door having a little pre game drink. Now I am trying to cook the steak for our dinner. Wine without food does me no good.

    That was too close for comfort but a win is a win even by one point. Rugby is our national game but we haven't won the World Cup since 1987 and by the way we do have countries from all around the world playing so it is really a World Cup..
