Happy Birthday, Bren - enjoy your new shoes and everything else.

I had forgotten how pleasant a nice outdoor walk could be. It is cloudy here, probably in the fifties and absolutely heavenly! It felt so liberating to just spread my body in the timeless way of a primate - walk on two feet in nature - and actually enjoy it.

It occurred to me that there may be one way to identify a BC patient -at least an er-positive one- o0n the street. Look at the person with the coolest clothes on, as in the least warm ones. I was the one person in a summer T-shirt. Thank you Tamoxifen! 

I wanted to share something yesterday and forgot - did you all hear/read about the Marine who was awarded the Medal of Honor? He stood out in a horrible day marked by treachery and, amongst many other things, US military blunders and shocking lack of army solidarity with the Marine corps, sad to say. He was truly a hero. I love these stories. Anyway, I only read the NYT's piece, but will look for more. It's nice to have a recipient of the award be alive, too. He sounds like an amazing person. He is now on inactive status and works as a construction worker, and when Obama first called him to congratulate him, etc... he would not come to the phone because he wasn't on break! So the president called again during his break. It makes you cry - he has a really sweet face and he showed, that day, that good really does outdo evil every time. I have always believed that. I am an atheist, a skeptic, but, also an optimist. I recommend the news item.

Susie, it must be disheartening to see your son with someone you don't really think much of. Enjoy the baby, though.

We're baby sitting - OMG - haven't done that since the kids were little. Sweetest bubby went to sleep before they left and not a peep out of him. We both got lots of smiles tonight.

Just looked at that crap review site - what a load of bulldust - I feel like I'm being stalked - might talk to an attorney about suing some of them - I just might screen shot their bottoms

This is what their birthday cake consisted of, according to the WP:

The cake given to the lions was made of ice, two whole cow femurs cut in half, five pounds of shaved beef and a half-gallon of cow blood. 

So there's no accounting for taste.

Oh, hah hah, jancie!  That's a good one. hillck, congrats on the surprise ending to your Herceptin experience. I like when our chemo centers hold celebrations for us.  Athena, I hope it's okay if we skip the lion cubs' party, or at least decline the birthday cake.

As for cake, I am sitting here drooling over the pic of the malted milk ball cake.  If it's decorated with malted milk balls, can you imagine what the rest of the cake is like?  Anyone else want some dessert???

I was so impressed with the young man who received the Medal of Honor and was struck by how genuine he is, like a throwback to a more compassionate and civil time.

But one thing he said broke my heart. He didn't consider himself a hero because a hero would have sacrificed his life trying to get those fellow soldiers out alive. And they didn't all survive, but he did, so obviously (in his thinking), he didn't do enough.

I hope he finds peace and is able to move beyond the survivor's guilt and will be able to go a little easier on himself. What he did was indescribably brave and I hope he can see that someday.
