Welcome Barbinphx, Julianna, Omaz. I do hope we get an opportunity to meet you.  We are planning a get together August 27th. That should be the week I am off chemo and doing well. I have not came up with the location yet. Am thinking about doing lunch somewhere in the metro area though we have not gone to the East side in awhile. So I will be figuring that out.

Barbinphx. I understand about the support that you need especially emotionally. The Wellness Center is a great place to start with. They have so much to offer and can get you connected to several different support groups especially if you are looking in your area. http://www.twccaz.org/  Our group is there for one another we are a fun group and just love hanging out. It is really nice being around those who have experienced some of the things that you have. We all have become a family and it is a safe haven for us. We need each other more than ever now. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Julianna we are excited to have you! The more the merrier we say.

Omaz glad you have joined and we hope to see you soon. Nothing like the Arizona heat.

Watch out for our get together.  We all look forward to meeting you. Many blessings, Elizabetth

Wow, haven't been on here like forever!  So many new people with new diagnoses!  Haven't received any notice for August 27 yet.  Is there a CC Factory near you, Elizabeth or perhaps Olive Garden? We can just do it on your side of the fence -- doesn't matter about doing it on the East side right now.

So sorry to hear your pet scan results were not good. Elizabeth you seems to have a wonderful attitude which I'm sure has helped you so much. I know your faith in God has taken you even further. Whether you know it or not you are a great example of courage to many BA sisters. You reach out to others, take the time to write a note to encourage those who need encouragement even when I suppose you are not feeling well at all. I am sorry you are having pain in your stomach & can't ea. I just want you to know Elizabeth you are in so many prayers including mine, daily.Hopefully & prayerfully the coming days will be much better for you.

Hi everyone!  I live in Maricopa!  I just had a bilateral masectomy almost 4 weeks ago now.  I have the exapanders in to begin the reconstruction process.  I've recently had problems with my left breast leaking as it swelled so bad after the drains were taken out and actually began to leak yesterday through a tiny hole that broke through where there was still a scab.  I'd love to meet with other women who have gone through this.  I do think it's very healing and a great way to meet other people too, and maybe help someone in the process.  I'm 39 and moved here from Wisconsin last year with my 14 year old daughter.  I only knew one person in Phoenix (my cousin) and I work from home.  So I haven't had a chance to meet too many other people outside of my church and favorite restaurant I frequent.

BilateralMastectomyat39, Welcome to the group. We are a great bunch of ladies. I can think of one lady that has gone through a rough time with her reconstruction. She had a DIEP surgery just as I did. I am sure she can so relate to what you have been experiencing. Her name is Karen (KinAz) It is a really good feeling to be able to relate to other women in your area. We meet up once a month sometimes on other occassions as will. Our time is precious to us. I can see where you need to get out of the house and make some friends. This is a great way. There are some other support groups as will here in AZ as I have mentioned on previous posts. Please check the Wellness Center out. I will be planning a get together there hopefully this fall. My daughter is older she is 22 now. She was 17 when I was first dx. What a scary feeling that was and still is for me. I have grandchildren now and they are a true blessing. I look forward to meeting you. Maybe you can PM Karen and talk. That would be great for you to hook up.

    Many blessings, Elizabeth

Hi Ladies - what a great bunch.  Spent the morning reading through...I just moved to Surprise from Connecticut a few weeks ago. Loving it!  Everyone is very friendly and laid back.

I saw a couple recommendations for Oncologist in the area and was hoping someone would be able to point me to someone close by?  I am finding that Phoenix is GINORMOUS.

BTW - I was diagnosed in October of '09  (IDC, 5cm, Stage IIb, Grade 3, 2/6 nodes ER+/PR+) at 36 yrs old. Had chemo, lumpectomy followed by radiation and now the ever-so-lovely Tamoxifen.  Wee!  So, I am in need of a mammogram as my insurance wouldn't pay for one prior to my moving because it didn't come under the 6 months from my previous scan.   So recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the giant metropolis of Phoenix.   Surprise is on the other side of the world (it feels like) from where I live in Chandler.   It may still be a bit of a drive for you but I was SO SO impressed with John C. Lincoln Breast Center located sort of at the junction of highway I-17 and highway 101 right there at the north part of the city.    I do not know what they have regarding oncologists there but I am so impressed with the facility.   As far as mamograms, they are the one of the only places in the nation that have the 3-D mamograms.    And one of the radiologists there...Linda Greer is my hero.

You very well may get suggestions closer to you.   Good luck!

And....you're going to love it here after October!

Dottie, Welcome to our group. We are a great bunch of ladies and are glad to know you have found somewhere to connect. I have a awesome oncologist.  She is the voted best in America. She is straight forward to the point. She does not sugar coat anything. She is on top of research and what is working now! Her name is Dr. Sharon Ondreyco. 7200 W. Bell Rd. Glendale, AZ 623-437-3700 I am glad to know that she has my best interest at heart. I have been seeing her since 2008. She helped me fight IBC and we won that fight. Now we are fighting bone and liver mets. So  you would take the 101/Bell Rd kind of hard to find. But if you need to contact me I can give you exact directions.

I am glad that you are loving it here. It is hot and I mean hot but some people really like that. I am a native and still not use to it. (lol) I hope that you will be able to join us on the 27th. It will  be a nice get together. If you need to send me a PM please do. Mayo Clinic is also a wonderful place to go.  They have excellent Dr.'s there. A couple of the ladies here in AZ   have gone to Mayo. I did go for my reconstruction there cause I had a DIEP and they only offered it there.

    Many blessings, Elizabeth

Thank you both very much for responding so quicky!  I have already called Dr. Ondreyco's office and she is accepting new patients - yay - and wow, 3D imaging for mammograms.  That is impressive.  I remember being so nervous for my first mammogram after surgery/treatment knowing that the "geography" had changed.  They prepared me that this would be a benchmark and to come back in two months.  I've had three mammos since in which they, initally, reported as suspicious requiring follow-up.  Ugh.  I tell ya, treatment was awful but good.  Good in that I knew that it was doing its job but the worst part is the waiting...the not knowing.  I am sure you all relate.

Thanks again and I would LOVE to join you.  Hope I'm not imposing. I work from home and have two children (2 and 5) so adult time is heaven!  Laughing

Dottie - The 3-D mamograms are amazing.   They were so good about letting me come around to look at them and explaining them to me.   Of course...we were looking at all those lovely calcification clusters.

Dottie you are not imposing at all! This is a support group that has fun. Anyone is welcome to anything anytime. We are here for you. I completely understand about adult time. I am so glad that you made an appt with Dr. Ondreyco. I hope you like her as much as I do. Wish you the best with your appt and mammo.

    Many blessings, Elizabeth

Hi All.  Did everyone decide on a date to meet?  I keep thinking I may have missed the last one.  Had surgery again today for an infection from one of my TEs.  Been a rough couple weeks since I've been on last and thought there was a meet for early August.

    Good morning,

Saw Dr Ondreyco yesterday - she is wonderful!!  Thank you so much EBAN for the recommendation.  She is so thorough and wants to know everything.  I know that sounds like a basic requirement but I have experienced otherwise in the past.  My dad used to tell the joke "What do you call the Med Student who graduates bottom of his class?  Doctor!"  Anyways, she's great.

See you on the 27th (looking forward to it)
