Today is beach bar, tonight is fireworks on the beach, tomorrow is more fireworks on Miami Beach, Monday, more Miami Beach fireworks then home Tuesday. Should be a blast. If I get any good fireworks pix, I will post them.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. My daughter and her 3 will be out today. It is supposed to be in the nineties so they will enjoy the ac and the lake if it doesn't rain. Tomorrow is a family reunion 4 hours away. There and back the same day and Monday is probably time to recover.

Because we are so far north and at the western edge of our time zone we don't get  dark or fireworks until after 10: 00 so I will be satisfied with what I see from my house. Sometimes the neighbors do them. I don't know if they will this year. We can see the ones from town over the trees.

Where is everyone today?  Enjoying the wonderful 3-day holiday weekend?!?

I'm so excited ... Tim said he would stay home and watch the dogs while I travel to Canada for konakat's memorial luncheon.  I'm so happy .. I've never been to Canada and I get to meet all these wonderful women.

I've known Blue for four years and I'll finally be able to meet her and Ray of Sunshine.  Yay!  Lucky me. Getting excited about making the arrangements and seeing all my friends.

Hope everyone is enjoying the day.

    hugs,

    Bren

Bren -- WE are looking forward to meeting YOU, sweetie!  And Mr. Tim is one swell guy!

It's hot here in Niagara today but lots of visitors in town - celebrating Canada Day yesterday and July 4th on Monday.  I'm trying to track down a Stars and Stripes to put alongside my Maple Leaf flag.  Even sent DH into Walmart (we hate Walmart!) and it doesn't even carry flags of any sort!  Will I have to cross the river to find one???

I'm just killing time here waiting for DH to get done cleaning the fish tank so we can go out and about.  He doesn't know it yet but we'll be eating out today ... just a matter of where.

Hope everybody on both sides of the border has a wonderful holiday weekend!

Looks like we're staying close to home today.  Tomorrow we will be going up north to bbq with my sis and her husband.  Yay!  Steaks and salmon!

Mr. Tim is a 'swell' guy .. the only thing is he wants me to fly and not drive to Buffalo.  Won't have to twist my arm on that one!

Forecast was for 97 here today. The sun has never really come out and it's only 83 - yea! I probably wouldn't feel that way if I was out on the lake but it suits me fine. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  It is hot and sunny here in Montreal.  My daughters are out, and it is just me and my hubby having lunch.   We are going to a friend's house for a BBQ this evening...so a relaxing and lovely day for us.

I hope everyone also has a happy and wonderful weekend.

Hi Girls - please say a quiet prayer for KK for me when you meet up. I love Canada SO much wish I could be there with you.

We have Australia Day on the 26th January plus lots of other holidays throughout the year - Queen's Birthday, Labour Day, Anzac Day, Good Friday and Easter Monday for Easter etc. We even get a day off when they hold the Brisbane Exhibition in August - farmers bring their animals in for a big show, rides, food, displays etc - goes on for a week or so - like your State fairs.

I'm up early to go to the farmers markets - they are held once a month in a suburb nearby. They are also on at another place every 2 weeks and in the city every week, but the one near me is easier to get to. Now that I'm full time at work, I can go to the city one but it involves walking up hill and my knees aren't up to it at the moment. So, fresh fish for dinner tonight - I beer batter it - very naughty but delicious!!

    Bren - travel safely!!!

remind us to celebrate 26 January - the Day after Robert Burns Day, as I remember from my London years.  Do they eat Haggis in Aussie Land?

I'm back from the markets - my fish man didn't have much - drat. Now I'll have to go next Saturday to the one a bit further away. At least I got fish for tonight. Did get some lovely cheap bananas and some choc fudge and some rocky road. DH going golfing again - bliss - I can sit around and eat chocolate :)

Sunflowers - no we don't eat haggis here thank god.

    Summer - I love BBQ's too - it's a man's job - enjoy your night off.

Susieq -- You've sparked my curiosity about Brisbane so I googled it!  Gorgeous city, beautiful beaches, lots of bridges over the Brisbane River.  I want to go there!

Beer can chicken (without the beer or the beer can, actually I have a vertical roaster) tonight, stuffed sweet potato and cauliflower.

We helped our older son move all day today.  We were naughty and had Dairy Queen for dinner. DH had a chocolate malted milkshake.  I had a vanilla cone dipped in chocolate shell coating. Really good and bad for us.  My motto....Life is short, eat desert first !  =;0)

So my sister and I joined a CSA (community-sponsored agriculture) farm and we get loads of vegetables and fruit from them every week.  This week, we got kohlrabi.  What the heck is that?  Anybody have any idea how to cook it?  I was going to roast it with olive oil and garlic, but other than that I have no idea what to do with it!

If only they grew desserts.  (I'm with you, sewingnut!)

I LOVE Kohlrabi.  You can slice & saute it.  I love it sliced thinly, or diced in a fresh lettuce based salad.

I love kohlrabi -- I've only ever had it raw.  When I was a kid, it was only available if you grew it in your garden -- which we did!

E, we always peeled the outer thick skin off the kohlrabi -- don't know if that's really necessary or a good idea, but that's what my mother and grandmother did -- then sliced or diced the inner part and served it uncooked.

Never heard of it before either.  Went to visit Mr. Google and found this ...

    http://www.care2.com/greenliving/how-to-use-kohlrabi.html

"It has the look of an organic green Sputnik" they say.  How can you not like a veggie that looks like a Sputnik?

They also tell you what part to eat which is always nice to know.     You will have to let us know how the taste test comes out.

I see WR's link also says to pare away the outer thick skin...  I guess they agree with my grandma !
