Alpal, you are a true patriot! Still haven't been able to track down an American flag. Hoped to put one next to my maple leaf to welcome all our U.S. visitors this weekend. (singing "that's what friends are for....")
And no, NOTHING is cuter than a basket of puppies -- except maybe a basket of KITTENS (my bias is showing -- oops!).
-
gracie ... congratulations on the handsome new furry family member. He is adorable!
So while you were thinking about what kind of dog to get ... the dog meant for you just popped up and into your life. Funny how that works

Alpal ... glad you got all moved. Now comes the finding stuff and putting away stuff and arranging stuff.
-
I did find some stuff I lost during the last move. Probably means I don't really need it, right? At least I got my flag and bunting out. Maybe by December, I'll find the Christmas ornaments.
-
Gracie...I love Coton du Tulear. My intro to them was last year on an Alaskan cruise. There was a magician on board who used their Coton du Tulear ("Indy") "In dee" show.
It was great fun...Here is a link to Indy's FB page. She has a little sister now.
http://www.facebook.com/IndyShow
I should add she was the Coton du Tulear that Animal Planet used last year on Breeds101 when they showcased her breed.

Happy 4th July girls!!! It's early morning on the 4th here. Work - ugh
-
Gracie .. congrats on your new boy! He's a keeper!

Gracie - I noticed that no one offered any clues on how to get your precious dog to ask permission before jumping on the furniture. No help here - I didn't even know dogs were supposed to ask permission first. My current dog actually does ask - she's a 4.5 lb Yorkie and she barks at me until I lean down and pick her up. Good Luck!
-
Alpal - glad you feel at home again. I'm ashamed to admit it, but when I first moved to an apartment in another city ages ago, I told myself that I would really feel at home when I could sleep in on a Sunday and not care. When that time came, about two months into my move, I felt secure. Nothing bespeaks home sweet home like laziness.
Your sense of home sweet home is far more productive than mine! -
Gracie - get a small water bottle that sprays. As soon as the dog jumps up on the furniture spray its head with water. Won't hurt them but they hate it.
At the same time say "No, DOWN" or you can use a grunting uh uh type sound which is what I normally do. -
On the other subject - I ended up with a large bag of peas on that sore area and it helped me through the night but then again today I was hurting. I must have pulled something but have no clue how I might have done that.
-
Happens to me all the time, Jancie. About two months ago, my right arm and hand began to swell. I panicked, thinking it was lymphedema, as the swelling was on my cancer side. Finally, I realized (it took a power yoga class to reveal this to me) that I had sprained my hand. Ice packs for a day did the trick. I never knew how it happened. My arm is fine now.
-
Jancie, what you have described does sound as though it might be inflammation of the sciatic nerve (especially since you didn't have an injury). If the bag of peas helped, then perhaps you need an anti-inflammatory such as advil (extra strength!) plus more icing to reduce the inflammation.
I had a very sore shoulder a few years ago. As the dys went on and it got steadily worse, I finally went to the doc who suggested advil, which worked. Have also had physio for another injury (hip) and that's when I learned about icing + an NSAID like advil.
BTW, I have no financial interest in the makers of advil! It just happened to work for me.
Hugs, Linda

We bought new bunting this year. We have a couple of flags that were up yesterdsy and will be back up tomorrow. We didn't put them up today because we went to a family reunion at 6:30 AM and just got back.
-
Now I feel downright un-patriotic. I've got the flag out, but I've never been a bunting kind of gal. Guess I'd better get with the program.
I had roasted kohlrabi tonight. Good stuff!
-
There's a street in the city nearest me called Bunting Road. Believe it or not, there's a store on Bunting Road that sells flags! I'm off to check it out tomorrow!
-
Aren't there birds called indigo buntings? I have bunting, but my porch railing is currently obscured by an evergreen bush we call "the messy head of hair," so I think the bunting will wait until next year. We were gone all day and now it is night and stormy, so the flag will go up tomorrow.
-
I have been taking 500 mg of Naproxen - that is really helping. I am going to ice again tonight. I was able to walk for about 20 minutes. Last night I tried walking to see if I was just stiff but I ended up feeling worse so I think that I have some inflammation thing going on. Appreciate the advice from everyone!
-
Jancie - heat would be better for it.
-
Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
Think I am skipping fireworks at the Mall. I have seen them a million times and it's too hot.

-
Happy 4th all from beautiful Miami Beach! I will try to get pix of the South Beach and Bal Harbor fireworks for you. Should be a great beach day here. We are in in North Beach around 68th Street. Nice views.
-
Hope everyone has a wonderful Independence Day. It's cloudy and misting rain here
Not a great start to the day, but maybe it will improve. -
Athena, the fireworks are better on TV in air conditioning with the PBS broadcast sound simulcast on WETA-FM on your stereo. Bathrooms and food right at your fingertips ... I went regularly to the Mall the first 10 years I lived here, but then I couldn't take the heat and the crowds anymore.
-
Couldn't agree more! No strollers going over your feet, no tall, strapping men blocking your view or camera-happy tourists blinding you with the flashlights. Some democracy is fine. Too much democracy is, as George Carlin would say, "bad for you." Even on Independence Day.
-
Not to mention Porta-Potties that have been cooking in the sun in 90+ degree heat all day in crowds. :-o. (My iPad doesn't allow BCO's emoticons to show up...)
-
My problem with Max has been solved I think. Last night when he jumped on the sofa, Lucy growled an nipped at him until he got off. I think he got the hint. Looks like I have a built-in dog trainer with Lucy! It's so cute to watch her show him the do's and don'ts. Every once in a while I catch her bringing him a toy. It seems she really likes having a kid to look after.
Happy 4th everyone!
-
Thanks Summertyme!
Gracie .. that's wonderful that Max has a little trainer in Lucy. My Maggie trained Tank when we got him as a puppy too.
Happy 4th to everyone!

What's everyone doing today? I just mowed my upper field and this afternoon we will bbq ribs and have corn on the cob and baked beans. Perfect 4th of July menu!.
Hope everyone enjoys their day!

I'm doing the laundry after an excellent Canada Day family weekend at my brother's cottage. And clearing the cherry pits off my patio after the squirrels and crows ate the cherries from my tree, dumped the pits and some of the skins. Some years the people get the cherries. This wasn't one of them.
(edited because my keyboard can't spell)

Hal just put out 3 flags to add to the bunting for Indepenence Day. Family will be over. It is my sister's birthday and my daughter-in-law's too but they both will be at their own homes today.
-
Gee Rosemary, hope you're not having visitors today -- they'll never recognize your house with all that red white and blue!
