so so sad!  I wanted James to win. Do you think it had anything to do with the rumor(?) that he held a knife to a toddlers throat?

I'm not a big Scotty fan...I think he is a fantastic singer but now sure if I want him as AI winner..but then again remember Taylor Hicks...mister soul train himself...oh boy!!!

That was a shocker -- I thought James would win.

Well, sleeping on it didn't make last night any easier to take!!

Still just stunned and saddened by the results!  Was REALLY pulling for James!  As my husband says, it's just a show but, I still teared up when they announced it!

I think the only real surprise on AI would be if there were no surprises.  A little sorry to see James go (was rooting for Scotty to be outta there) but glad to see the two girls in the top three.

njbh - I did not know about that rumor... but way to keep spreading it... Surprised

I just have to say: Not ONE of those little brats shed a tear when James did not make it though. NOT ONE. I hope they all end up like whoever it was that one the year Chris Daughtry was voted off... who was the winner that year??? Was it Taylor Hicks.. ? Yeah, and we see what winning did for him... LOLLOLOLOL.

I know that awful Hailey was smiling like crazy but I thought I did see Scotty with wet eyes?

I'm sorry, but you must have been watching a different show than I was. It was reported by people who were there that both Haley and Scotty were tearing up, and Haley leaned over and whispered to Scotty "I'm going to cry."  Once he started singing, Haley was singing along with him. And when James got out in the audience and hugged Casey both Scotty and Haley had smiles. This meme about Haley smiling or smirking when others go home is just a lie. Watch the video back. She appears to have a natural smile but I have seen no evidence that she's gloating. Last week when Lauren was in the bottom two everyone was all "Haley ignored her" but she patted Lauren's shoulder as she walked by to the sofa of safey.

I hate how American Idol views have some sort of unwritten standard for the girls and pick at them over every little facial expression, whereas the guys get a pass. What do you want, Barbie dolls? Why do people enjoy believing that the women are arrogant or snotty or whatever when they are just young kids competing on a reality tv show trying to do their best?

I'm not sure where James is going to go career-wise. I loved his enthusiasm and joy in performing, but his performances were more special effects driven than vocal driven (the vocals were competent). There isn't a real metal rock market right now and that's what he says he wants. I hope he does find a niche in the music industry where he can make a living.

    revkat,

Haley is the only singer who comes across as being angry when picked on by the judges, and was told twice to watch her mouth.   She seems to be holding her own.   None of them are Adam Lambert.   However, it's a man's world even in the music industry.

You think she comes across as angry. I think she comes across as frustrated with unfair and inaccurate comments from the judges. She has been told to watch her mouth. When Lauren (yes, sweet little Lauren) let the F-bomb fly early in the season it was just bleeped with no comment. I couldn't even hear Haley the time she cursed at Jimmy Iovine, Ryan was the one who drew attention to it.

Maybe Haley should stand there and cry like Lauren did when the judges gave her a tiny bit of negative feedback. Or have to go outside in the parking lot to cry during a taping/practice session because "I can't live without you" is so emotional like James did? Look, they are all very young and inexperienced this season, don't make more of their reactions than is really there.

I just don't like it when lies are spread about the contestants' (any of them) attitudes based on nothing except bias. Show me a screen cap where Haley ever was happy about another contestant going home. Evidently people don't like her smile or her scowl from reading the comments above.

By the way, anyone think it was odd that no mention was made of Lady Gaga singing the "not very good" according to Randy, "unfamiliar" according to JLo, song that Haley sang just the week before?

Disappointed with last night's result.  James left on a high note!  He was sincere when he talked America and the judges -- kissed his wife = priceless.

Ugh .. Scotty still there !!!!

Raw talent has to go to James. He proved his chops in every venue.  I like haley's voice. It has a edgy kind of blues tone. I guess I was sad to see my pick go home as his story is inspirational. He was and maybe still dirt poor and handicapped. That said the other thing that seems a bit askew is that the voting is not legitimate as some people put there computers on redial for the allocated 2 hours. Soooooo it becomes a bit irrelevant to talent and charisma. However the exposure is real and our reactions are real. It seems that he is the favorite among this thread.

I wish him well. And all my beautiful sistahs here too.

    revkat,

Bottom line, Haley seems to be holding her own.   Next week should be tense.

I wish him well also, he spoke and sang from the heart. Could do every genre and do it well, I found his emotion refreshing that lyrics in a song could touch him so deeply.  It was another year like the season with Daughtry, where you just stared at the TV knowing it was such a mistake.  I had hoped for James, Scotty and Lauren, who has the potential to be a Carrie Underwood.  I thought Haley was inconsistent, with the first song being criticized, her getting in a snit, and pulling through on the merits of the second song.  I hope that James has impressed enough people to find a place in the music world.

I love Haley.  Sorry I know it's not popular but there is something special about her.  I also have really enjoyed Lauren this week (who finally seems to have more confidence).  I know some of you love him but Scotty is not my favorite (though he has a good voice).  I'm with those who wanted James to stay and Scotty to go... though I do think James has been pretty uneven and never wowed me the way that Adam Lambert did.  That said, I think all four of them are going to do well after this show regardless of who wins.

I am rooting for Haley all the way now. I love her smokey, jazzy voice.

Scotty is next on my winner list although I don't think he is as flexible in different genres.

Lauren is too unpredictable for me. She needs to get some miles on her before they throw her to the sharks.

I think James will do fine if he can keep that fire in his belly and give it all he has.

I just have to put in my vote here for Haley. :) I too love her smokey jazz voice. She has an amazing instrument and when she picks a song that can showcase that, she blows me away. You can tell it comes effortlessly to her. (for u Adam Lambert fans ~ I read that he tweeted about how much he was blown away by her voice :)

As far as the "attitude" ..it's not completely fair to judge her by perceived reactions we are seeing via camera shots...not seeing the whole picture as if you were in the audience.

These last kids are very entertaining and it will be interesting to see how the next couple weeks play out. But as others have said...winning the show means diddly squat. If you don't have "it", you are not going to make it in the biz whether you come in 4th or 1st.

    SusansGarden,

I have to admit that the camera seems to look for any chance to make Haley look negative to the viewers of AI.   I really think the judges want her to go bye-bye.

I loved Haley's last 2 performances. Beautiful voice but something about her doesn't sit right with me. Again this is a singing competition.

I'm going all the way with Lauren. I feel the connection.

Scotty too I feel the connection and he is so cute but can he represent AI.????????

At this point I really don't know who will be crowned.Innocent

I wanted James to win too but I am sure he will go very far with his career. Just a shame American voted him off. He should have won, I am not a fan of that kind of music but he sure put on a great show. Now I don't even care who wins.

Haley needs to go...................and yes she was smitten, and the voice after a while is nothing but raspy voice screaming.

Sad thing is if she continues doing that type of voice straining, and that is what it is, she will wear her voice out in a few years................Or develope throat polyps....................a little of that type of singing is ok, but for her its a daily diet..

all the crap the Jame's idiot stepfather for a YEAR sold to the tabloids really angered me- as a mother of a son with autism it is so easy for others to judge-my guy is the sweetest person on the planet yet at times he does very weird things in others' eyes...when he is stressed he seeks out a quiet enclosed place to relax....big chnages are hard for these guys (i.e. a new "dad" and siblings) ahhh, I have been rooting for James for his talent and because of my son-I would like to kick his stepfather in the head...James is a goodheart

I respected James so much for his talent, and the way he did not let his Tourette's get in the way of his life...........Never heard the story about him in the Tabloids, but who would believe the trash they write anyway.  I hope he makes a career out of being on the show.....He deserves it.  He is a good man, and a talented man................

    annettek and ducky,

My son has a VERY mild form of Tourette's and for those not familiar with it, some of his small tics can make people wonder what is going on...  However, most of these kids are above average in intelligence AND just SO sweet and caring!

Tourette's (and autism) is really aggravated when the person is under a lot of stress! Wow... let's think AI stress for a moment!

I think James showed REMARKABLE grace under pressure!  And yes, even though I never would actually do it, I would like to smack his step-dad, myself!!!

I'm so disappointed with James being booted.  I honestly am not inspired to watch it anymore this season .. sigh.  I probably will though but not with near the enthusiasm.
