Anyone stop to consider what the pregnancy rate would be without PP and their birth control services.  Anyone stop to consider how many breast cancer cases would go undectected without PP and their services.  Anyone stop to consider what things were like before abortion was legal?  Anyone stop to consider orphanages with dozens of babies who didn't get adopted?? (I came from one of those orphanages as did my brother and sister) - seriously I don't think some people stop to "consider" anything or anybody but their own selfish political interests.

I think it's going to be BBQ steak, baked potato and beet tops with garlic.  BTW, I have a bunch of kale, some of which I put in home-made minestrone the other night.  But what should I do with the remainder?  Any suggestions?

Every time you produced an egg and didn't become pregnant, you flushed away the potential of a baby. Did you kill a baby then too?

I always wonder why abortions are OK in some circumstances (incest, rape, etc.) but not in others.  Very illogical.  But then I do think late stage abortions are abhorrent -- if the fetus can possibly live outside the body it should not be aborted unless the woman's health was in danger.

Also, why not the uproar about IUDs from the anti-choicers?  If they don't prevent conception hormonally they stop the embryo from attaching to the uterine wall.  Hmmm, sounds like abortion to me.

Why's it always put on the girls?  What about the boys?  They get off so easily in the blame game.

Or an extreme example, if you aren't perpetually trying to get pregnant aren't you preventing a baby from ever having being created?  Not even getting a chance out of the starting blocks? Aren't some religions totally against birth control or were up until recently?

Teen pregnancy seems to be a terrible cultural trend these days.  What's strange is that I saw a lot more pregnant teens while I was living in the US.  I was shocked.  Once a teen girl is showing a sexual interest in boys Moms should tell their daughters that they'd rather have a daughter on the pill that a daughter who's pregnant.  She doesn't have to tell Mom about the pill, just do it.  That's what my Mom told me and I did everything she suggested. 

She was a cool Mom (a nurse) -- over 30 years ago was counselling pregnant teens and if they were adamant about getting an abortion she made sure they got a proper one, not a backroom hatchet job that the anti-choicers would like to drive some girls to do today.

Enjoyful -- I thought jobs were scarce?   That your economy was going down the tubes?  What happened to all the JOBS that were promised by the other party in the last election?  How easy is it for pregnant, uneducated teens to get a job that will support them and their babies?  Ah, so many unanswered questions....it's boggling all my grey matter.

Oh, another question:  how well is the abstinence campaign working out?

"Adapt"! Good grief..."adapt"... OMG. The current path has to stop somewhere. The stats just keep getting worse. It's a vicious cycle. And throwing more money at it is simply not helping or changing the situation. Much of the problems are among the minorities. They are the ones who get the most funding...it's obvious that the entitlements are just causing more dependence and less self relience. Maybe Obama's next campaign slogan can be "Adapt America". 

Agreed, Laura!  Let's stop throwing money at the wealthy and big oil! 

JB, why don't you learn some courtesy?

Yes, everybody, go out there and get a job.  That 9% unemployment doesn't mean a thing if you really really really really want to work.  And by the way, breast-feed that unwanted baby while you're working a full-time job and paying a babysitter.  Just do it and quit complaining!

You're right.  And I see no need to be courteous to people who would deny health care and other services to the needy.

What am I bet that the same people jumping up and down over abortion, with all the name calling, are the same people who:

1.  Think Head Start and food stamps and WIC and medicaid are a waste of their tax dollars;

2.  Don't believe in contraceptives or teaching about contraception;

3.  Vote yes for capital punishment;

4.  Are opposed to public assistance and welfare;

5.  Feel they should be able to take their tax dollars and apply it to the private school of  their choice leaving public education without sufficient funding;

6.  Are opposed to funds for public art, parks and libraries;

7.  etc etc etc etc.

Linda and River Rat   So glad to see that somebody else knows you can eat beet greens.  We used to have them out of the garden when I was growing up and I remember that I liked them.  Hubby and everybody else I have mentioned it to around here looks at me like I've lost my mind.   Finally ... validation.  I think I'm going to grow some beets this summer.  He can eat the beets (ick) and I'll eat the greens.

Now if I can just find somebody else who likes to eat saltine crackers with ice cream I might start to feel normal

Crackers and ice cream?  Hmmm, that's a new one!  Rabbit, if you're going to plant some beets, try getting the golden beet seeds.  They're not as sweet as the red ones and I prefer the beet tops to the red ones.  Actually, it's my DH who loves beet greens; I have to smother them in garlic and a bit of EVVO to make them palatable!

RR -- thanks for the suggestion re kale.  Someone suggested deepfrying it, but I hate the lingering odour of the deep fryer!  Maybe I should take them to my local diner and ask them to do it for me!!!
