Aaaa if we ate like DH it would be 5 lbs of red meat 3 lbs of potatoes then the rest is veggies and fruit! He gets what he likes part of the time and that is enough for him to survive it! Are DH ever truly happy unless they get a good dinner?

We went to the mall yesterday and had lunch. DH had spaghetti/meatballs, informed me we didn't have that enough.
Then complained because the sauce was too thin.

Canned tomatoes are in the good column so that may have to re-appear on our dinner list. I had it for awhile but got tired of it.

Oh yes Rose you need thick sauce and big meatballs to make a man happy! I am back in the saddle but every meal is a struggle.

The sauce at the mall was pretty watery. I can do better just opening a can!

I don't really like canned spaghetti sauce, it tends to have a lot of oil in it. He'll be happy with those canned tomatoes/garlic/onion mixtures.

I guess I got on the lentil kick and forgot about tomatos.

    Tommorow is the office party.
I signed up for desserts and spent the weekend making five different kinds of cookies. I boxed them up tonight, and sampled more than I ought to have.

Now I have tomorrow to look forward to. Help me to do vegies and not compound my cookie damage!

Lord Please Help Rose find Veggies much more appealing than all the goodies I would be eating! Give her strength in her time of need of chocolate and sugar!Amen!!

How is that Rose? If he can't help you then I don't know who can! Take care and remember it only is once a year!

I was good. I had a couple of meatballs, lots of green beans (OK they were cooked in bacon fat), a chicken leg, one serving of very spicy potato salad, some dip/chips, and lots of carrots/brocolli -- plus some cake someone else brought.

BUT I didn't have any eggnog, mostly because it was spiked.

I put the uneatten cookies back in the box and will take them to a meeting I go to every week. The woman who runs that meeting gave me a basket with bean soup mix in it. So I'll repay her good deed with sugar and choclate!

Okay, my healthy friends. I need advice.

I'm dropping weight (not inches 'cause it isn't toned) due to diahrea (sp) and strange tastes. I think I can counter act the strange tastes, but what foods counteract diahrea?

    Theresa,

Rice and banana supposedly counteracts diarrhea and also soluble fiber should help. You need to have liquids because you can also get dehydrated.

    Something else that may help:

Glutamine is an amino acid that is the preferred source of energy for the intestinal lining. It helps feed the intestinal cells, which helps them recover faster from damage. Glutamine also feeds immune cells and helps muscle growth. It is useful in integrative cancer care to reduce destruction of the stomach lining during chemo/radiation and also support to muscle mass. Glutamine helps ulcers and gastritis heal faster and frequently reduces nausea and vomiting. It can help repair the stomach and intestinal damage from pain killers such as aspirin or Tylenol.

    I hope this helps.

They will tell you with small babies it is a BRAT diet, Bananas, Rice, Apples and a T food no idea what the T stands for! Youngest is 8, been too long ago. They use that when no meds are allowed! Good Luck Theresa! I know the taste is awful!

    Rosemary,

Where do I get glutamine? Do you know if it's okay to do it during chemo?

I don't like Bananas so I guess rice and apples it'll have to be. Wouldn't have thought of the rice.

I'm trying to put liquids in. It's just hard when everything is running through! (And this is during my week "off".)

The 'T' in BRAT is 'Toast'. I had kids with non-stop ear problems and the antibotics always gave them problems.

You might try yoghurt. If the drugs have wiped your intestinal bacteria out it can restore it.

    Hope you're feeling better!

    Theresa,

They sell Glutamine in vitamin stores. It's a powder you'll mix in water. I know they give it to patients on chemo to help with mouth sores, it seems to help that too. As for dosage, I can't help with that, sorry. Maybe you should check to see if your Onc would have any problem with you taking it.

Let's hope with all this discomfort that the stuff is doing its' job.

Did I read that you go back the first week in January to find out? I'm praying it's 'terminating' all those bad cells. If they need to 'run' out then so be it!

Wouldn't that be nice, if the cells were escaping with the undigested food?

Yeah, I go back for scans Dec. 26 and get the results Jan. 3.

My feeling is that it's working. I was getting slightly out of breath before (and thinking that it was back in my bone marrow.) Now, it's colder and I have more breath. I can't exercise because of the Xeloda and friction, but I think I'm doing better.

I wouldn't even mind the weight loss if it didn't come with the discomfort. Guess you can't have everything.

I hope it isn't too bad a wait. If you feel like it's working that will help.

Put all those holiday goodies in a baggie and freeze them so you can enjoy them properly once this passes. I think we're getting close to the 'fat-free holiday' zone! Just a few days and counting.

    Hi Theresa,

Are you in treatment now? If you are, you need to tell your oncologist about the diarrhea. I was told by my doc to take Imodium (over the counter) for diarrhea during treatment. Diarrhea can cause you to become dehydrated, which is not a good thing during treatment.

If you're not in treatment, I'd still call your doc, if you're losing weight because of it.

    Take good care and hugs!

    Liza,

Thanks. I did tell my onc. "Gee, that's strange" was the response, because I only get the diarrhea when I'm not taking the Xeloda. I've been taking Imodium, but it's not quite doing it's job, so I thought I'd supplement it with foods that would "stop" me up as well.

    Theresa,
Firstly, I want to tell you how much awe I have of your inner strength in the way you handle the bumps in the road that present to you.
You have so got the right attitude along with those rose colored glasses!

Anyway, back on topic, gelatin might be a diarrhea stopper?

    Keep on keepin on!

Thanks for the kind words. I don't know about the inner strength. Christmas this year has been a little depressing (it's my favorite time of the year and it's been really hard to celebrate it. My hands hurt after making just a few dozen cookies!)

Would you believe that today, just taking one dose of Xeloda, that it's stopped. So, I can have different side effects, but at least I'm not dizzy from lack of calories now.

Sounds like Cowgirl will be cooking from now until New Years! My cookies, all 6 dozen, are holding out.

I'm doing as little cooking as possible. I've got the Honey-baked ham in the fridge. Hubby had a CAT scan so his tummy wasn't feeling too good. The upside is that all is still well there.

Mexico sounds nice and warm. The weatherman is talking about 50 degrees this weekend. That will be a heat wave!

Well lowfat is just out of here, these people otherwise known as my family want meat and potatoes! I am losing my low fat perspective! It is so hard to think with the constant chatter of "I'm hungry!".

Theresa! Hopefully you will keep that diaharrea away from you!

Laura, it sounds fabulous, soak up some sun and shrimp for me!

Rose so glad Dh is okay! I love ham wish I had some. Today I am cooking a dish I call Beef Fiesta, meat, ranch style beans and brown rice. The boys will put it on chips and smother it with cheese. I will eat it on brown rice! I have to jazz it up with taco stuff but they will eat it!

That sounds good. My crew would like that just because it has chips.

I do a taco cassarole where I take a taco dinner boxed mix, line a cassarole with the taco shells and layer the meat/sauce with more tacos, canned tomatoes, refried beans (not the kind with lard), and cheese. It is not low-fat but it does seem to get eatten.

I appease myself knowing that canned tomatoes are good for you.

At this time in my life I just want them to eat and move it along. I am sick right now, I think I have allergies or the flu. I am hopeful it will go away but I didn't get the flu shot this year, I know it was stupid. I never got to the doctor to do it, I had gotten to avoid the doctor if I could. So now I am back to praying for allergies!

    Do you have a temperature?

I'm not feeling that well myself, and I had the darn shot. One of the perks (if you can call it that) of tamoxifen is that you get a postcard telling you your flu shot is waiting for you.

I don't mind if they eat high-fat, they're young and skinny. I prefer them to get some orange juice and try to start the day with cereal and not chips.
