I think I am running fever at night, right now I am fine by about 4 PM I am napping. So that is odd for me, I take a phenegran pill to help at night. Maybe it is all drainage, I wish it would just go away!
-
I'm so sorry you are feeling ill. How long have you been running the fever? (i.e. is it time to call the doc, even though I know you don't want to.)
--Theresa -
Gosh how sweet Theresa! I have been running fever about three nights, tonight being the third night. I really think it is Cedar Fever, we have Cedar trees around here I am allergic too. I get sick every night after we get out and feed the goats. I had it one time when I was PG really bad, so tonight I am going to try benedryl. Yes I will go to the DR at some point, but not yet.
-
Hi everyone , i just read this post tonight . Took awhile. Very interresting. I read a lot on nutrition and allways have so I will have things to add. To tired right now.
Just wanted to add this little bit for anyone who is anemic or fealing tired.
Top ten iron rich foods.
Clams
Tofu
Raisen bran
Sirloin steak
Shrimp
black beans
chickpeas
turkey breast
Whole wheat bread
skinless chicken breast.
This was off a search I did on iron rich foods. You will see variations on each search But I did see clams on top of most search.
I got some baby clams in a can and am going to bread them and do a quick deep fry. Okay, I know the oil is not so good but if yuo do it very hot you can cook these little guys fast without them taking in to much oil. Maybe use olive oil since it is the best. Then eat some lentils or beans with them . seems a healthy combo. I love beans. I lots of times just open a can of some bean or another and add a but of chopped onion, some BBQ sauce and a little tobasco for a quick and easy been dish .
Cowgirl, I hope you are fealing better! -
I never through cedar trees would be an issue. Do they pollenate or something? Perhaps your children should feed the goats -
-
Cowgirl, I'm with Rose. Stay inside. At least then you'll know if it's related!
Sierra, just this morning I was wondering what the best iron-rich foods would be. Thanks for posting this. Now I don't have to do my own research!
--Theresa -
Ahhh I am much better! I took ibuprofen and benedryl! I can breathe!!! The cedar trees have a nasty allergy, and it is usually in Dec Jan and Feb. Then I am better, the boys get it too. Middle one was born in Feb, that year I was so sick! Oldest is coughing up a small lung daily!
Sue thanks I will add a few to my list of good foods. I make hummus from a can of chick peas. I love hummus!
I help the boys, the youngest is only 8. And at night when the other two are working at the farm it is up to me and the 8yr old. There is a deadline to get work done around the farm, so they are too busy to do it. Last night I got a bit sick made some Ramen noodle soup, took my meds and I felt better. I am off phrenegran until I feel I have to take it!
I am going to buy some more soup, that tasted good. You know so much tastes bad right now.
Sue Canola oil has a higher fry temp than olive oil. Olive is very hard to fry in, but you can saute in it very well. My brother forgot to bring me shrimp! I would love some fresh shrimp right now! -
a few more to add to iron rich foods are
Dark greens such as kale, spinich, etc
Prune juice
raisen, dates, figs, apricots
Beans and legumes
cowgirl, yes you are right about the oils and high heat. I will use cannola for the clams. On the can of clams it says one serving gives you 90% of your daily recomeded iron intake.
I know after last chemo treatment I was craving beef (which I dont usually eat;no offense to anyone who does) and I think it was from anemia. So, I did go have a hamburger. This week I am trying some sort of breaded saute clams. Will let you all know how they taste or if I find a great recipe. Clam soup could be it too. -
Filet mignon without the bacon is the best for you Sue. It has enough of the tenderloin to make it wonderful. If you get a hankering it is the choice of cattlemen that know the cuts. I know what hubby says, and he is the expert. Many diets allow tenderloin, so if you feel the urge!
-
My Mom brought a tenderloin for Christmas. I just ground the last of it up, mixed it up with mayo and pickles and made sandwiches. If you're feeling particularly bad you put the filling on bread, butter it, and grill the entire thing.
Theresa got me looking at Arbys' ads. They have a grilled sandwich with pastrami, sourkraut (sp?) and thousand island dressing that looks SO good.
When I got home somebody had eatten all the toffee I should be thanking them.
Are we back on the the low-fat/high-fiber next week? -
Yes Rose I am back in the low fat saddle, it will be back to multi colored veggies for me! Oh joy!!!! Next week I said next week!
-
My scale is registering up over what it should be, so we'll have to form a posse.
arby's will have to keep that sandwich. -
That's funny Rose, because I haven't had Arby's in a while. In fact, Arby's roast beef might not be a bad idea for the iron. Probably no cheese or potatoes, though.
It's too bad I can't give you some of my weight loss. I can't wait until my Onc appointment Tuesday!
--Theresa -
Well let's round yall up. Theresa we'll get you eating right, and Rose you and I should run till we drop from calorie drops happens.
-
I think we need a New Year's resolution here. I've been reading your arby's posts. Subway makes a nice chicken sandwich with honey nut oatbran bread, spinach, onions and olives. Doesn't that sound a whole lot better then arby's?
Happy New Year everyone and Theresa we are all waiting to hear your good news. -
Okay I admit I need to look forward in a healthy manner! Maybe it was the Sundae bar I provided for my family for dinner last night! I like laura want to focus on fruit and veggie variety. I tend to do the same fruit and veggie over and over again!
-
Well, one way or another, I'm done with Xeloda (I can't take it anymore). So, maybe, finally, I can get back to eating healthier!
--Theresa -
What does the Xeloda do Theresa? I am totally ignorant with the drugs!
-
I think it effects everyone differently. It causes hand/foot syndrome for 50% of the people taking it. (I got it and they reduced the dose as much as they could. I went off it Friday because I couldn't take it anymore.) My hands turned red/brown as did my feet. It also hurt to walk on top of everything else.
It made me really exhausted. My mind was pretty fuzzy. A few days out, I realized that I can hear my blood galloping through my head when I lie down which is usually a clear sign that my counts are too low. Friday, I napped 3-4 hours and then slept 12 hours that night. Saturday, I napped 4 hours and slept for about 10 hours (which for New Years is a fair amount.) Today, I've napped for 4-6 hours and I'll be asleep again shortly.
Diahrea (sp) is also another side effect. I only get it mildly while taking it, but it's horrible on the off week. I can't keep anything inside my body. On top of that, my stomach is cramping.
Also, when I'm on the meds, my left side seems to go numb. It was getting worse, had happened 3 times on Wednesday and Thursday. On Thursday it was more than my arm, which scared me. So, that's another reason I stopped it. Also, I've had strange visual disturbances that don't happen on my off week.
I can't take this anymore. I'm losing weight no matter what I eat or how much because none of it stays inside. And the side effects just aren't worth it.
Probaby more information than you wanted, but now I can just print this out for my onc and he'll know everything.
One good thing happened this weekend (when I wasn't sleeping.) I got a copy of Chicago magazine which rated the top 350 doctors in Chicago. Mine was one of the top 13 oncs in the city! I knew that, but it strangely comforts me after all the mess ups down here.
Happy New Years all!
--Theresa -
Theresa,
I just lurk here hoping for a recipe to try and wanted to give you a ((hug)) - Xeloda sounds rough! I hope that since they've got the estrogen problem dealt with you will respond well to hormone therapy!!
Happy New Year! -
Theresa - I hope that you feel better fast. Was this the last round of that medication? I'm a big believer in sleep, it's healing. Don't you get your scan results this week? I think you have total persmission to eat whatever you like!
The rest of us might be thinking about low-fat/high-fiber.
I'm using my last day off to clean-up, and get my kitchen organized for regular living. I threw some dry stale cookies out. It was a waste, but eatting them won't do me any good.
Keri - the lentil soup(s) are good if your family will eat them. - my family when confronted with lentil soup. -
That sounds Awful Theresa! God love you and your family, to put up with that nasty drug! I had no idea it would make you sleep so much! Odd the side effects really! I am glad you posted it all, since I did not have chemo a lot of it I am foreign to. I know more about colon cancer than breast, that is what I have been exposed to. The numbers are such a juggle! Is there another drug they can give you Theresa? Glad he is rated well!
So glad you shared this with me Theresa honestly! I had no idea what you were going through! Kari my recipes of late would not be good choices!
I did do my crockpot chicken a big hit as always! -
That was my last round, unless they talk me into more tomorrow. I think I let it go too long, but I have a high pain tolerance and don't tend to notice what is happening until it is too late.
So, now I just need to heal. And I'm hoping maybe I'll be able to go on another AI (or even the same one, so long as I'm permanently in menopause.)
--Theresa -
Get those numbers up Filet mignon would help your red blood cells Theresa! This is such a number game, and I am unclear what really helps the white cell count after chemo.
-
Finally - all the chocolate bark cookies are gone! I couldn't bring myself to throw those out. AND - I'm down 1/2 a pound.
It's brocolli for me. -
Rose,
Congratulations on losing 1/2 a pound (and finishing the cookies.)
I'm hoping that I can start the diet and exercise in a week or so.
--Theresa -
Congrats Rose! I need to weigh today but I truly dread it!!!
Theresa I hope you can soon I know it will help your stress level go down!
Well I am back on! I ate weight control oatmeal yesterday, it has more umph than regular oatmeal, not sure what is in it though!
I have started my smothered steak with the holy trinity veggies! I will eat up those babies! Lunch, I am not sure about yet maybe soup!
I feel it is time to let it go, I posted that writing by TD Jakes and I am ready to move forward! -
happy new year sisters!
back in the saddle again, went to the grocery store and loaded up on the veggies...yams, red yellow green peppers, broccholi and "sidewalk" salad mix...
safeway has launched a new organics line...and organic broccholi was cheaper than non...
have to say i ate a lot on the cruise...did not go crazy with the sweets, but they had platters of proscuitto that called out my name...
glad to be back on the diet...glad to see all my sisters back on (or getting, theresa) board...
i am going to go take a walk now and get that exercise out of the way before my oatmeal...
moving forward!!!
living strong!
laura -
Well my son woke up and said, "what is that stench?". Apparently he thinks holy trinity veggies don't smell that good! Laura a cruise you are intitled to eat like a pig! I did and never left my state!
What the heck is sidewalk salad? I love those field green mixtures! Yummm! -
Theresa - sounds like your hand/foot thing is getting better. I always think of it as hoof and mouth...
I'm giving a birthday party this weekend. The birthday girl likes choclate so I'm going to make something special - but no snacking while I do it. Then my guests will eat it all up!
