Troll psychology

Athena, I clicked on the name of the person who sent me the nasty PM. It seems to be a primary ID - the person has close to a thousand posts under this name. She's just someone who posts in forums that I never read so I have no idea who she is or what's she's all about. But I guess my comments here struck a cord with her, in a not very good way. I suppose it's possible that this individual has another ID and that I've crossed her path when she's been using that ID. I don't know.
I was scanning the political thread earlier and I did notice the appearance of some of the alternate IDs there.
-
Beesie, how very strange. This thread has certainly awakened some very strange beasts. What can I say....
-
I think it's fair to beleive that my contribution or lack of it, is affected by my past. If a poster strongly reminds me of someone i know in real life, I try not to let that give me a negative outlook on the poster. Although it may make me less likely to engage with them, I will try hard not to be unkind. But the similarities may bring something to my mind that I think might help that poster.
-
hymil, you've hit a chord with me. On another board I met someone who looked just like my cousin and then when I spoke to her she sounded very much like her (lovely southern accent). I bonded much too quickly with this person because of this and it didn't work out well.
-
Hymil, what you said has also happened to me. Exactly! Posters reminding me of someone I know. And it seems when this happens the reminder is always negative.
-
Thinking about strangeness here and hoping I am not strange. I think of my reactions to things as pretty normal and ordinary, so am mystified now and then at how harsh they are taken. I think even a small negative to a troll or someone not quite in balance tends to bring up the "fight" that seems always just below the surface.
Pm's coming Beesie and hymil.

Hymil,
You struck a chord with me too. The idea of having a poster here remind me of someone else and reacting according to that.
It also reminds me that many times we dont know, like someone else has already pointed out, what kind of day or week or month, someone has had.
Considering what women and men here are fighting, sometimes patience has run thin or tolerance is on the low end because their energy has been used up in fighting cancer, and rightly so.
Athena, thanks for the reminder that even people with mental health challenges get cancer, but that shouldnt be a pass for trollish behavior.

Athena, thanks for the reminder that even people with mental health challenges get cancer, but that shouldnt be a pass for trollish behavior.
Interesting. I was not saying that, but, rather, that a person who is a troll is not necessarily mentally ill, and that mental illness is no excuse for trolling (the bit about crazy people getting cancer was an aside).
However, Marie, you are right in saying this, too, and it shows your compassion.
-
Athena,
I love the mafia quote!
-
Thanks:) It came to me recently when I was thinking about the benefits of getting new breasts against the horrors of cancer....makes no sense how the mind twists and turns sometimes.

Hello All, Sorry that this has become a public event with SV and a private message. We did PM StillVerticle this morning, as we are looking into a specific, unkind private message. It looked as though it was sent from SV, so I asked her. As she has made public, it was not from her. That's all. No need to make this a bigger deal for now.Thank you,Melissa and Team
-
I'm not sure how many of us know what this is about. I don't, but I'm glad the issue has been resolved, Melissa, and thanks.
-
I second Athena. Hard job sometimes for the moderators and we are fortunate for the help. My thanks as well.

I dont know what this is about either, but want to thank the moderators for trying keeping this a safe place for all.
-
Ditto what the previous three ladies wrote!
-
I'm not sure what happened, either, especially since the alleged "public" revelation has disappeared. I do support the Mods/Melissa. She has to wade into this alligator pit now and then, to calm things down (or whack someone upside the head). <---that's a joke. She doesn't really do that.
Occasionally, Melissa arrives after the fistfight is over, and it's not clear how it happened or who might have been fault. That's not too surprising, when threads move as quickly as some of them do here. Sometimes, though, the wrong party might end up penalized -- kind of like when someone throws an elbow in a basketball game and the ref only sees the retaliation. Or when my mom used to smack us both, not bothering to find out who started the fight.
Anyway, what I'm really wanting to say is, I stand with Beesie -- any time and any place. IMHO, it isn't necessary to agree with someone 100% of the time, in order to recognize honesty, integrity, and compassion. Hugs to you, Beesie!

Well thanks to one and all for your helpful insights and words of encouragement. I haven't started many threads and most have been one page flops. I learnt a lot anout trolls and got to meet a load more of you in the bargain. Hi!
I really hope all this collected wisdom this doesn't get deleted and so I want to relate a story I was told long ago. I'll be back after my holiday. and hope to see this not deleted, or all shot full of holes!
A little boy comes home from school one day and his assignment is about War. (Yeah, great huh.) Daddy, he asks, Why are wars? Well son, replies Pop, some folks think we should all be allowed to do whatever we want to do, and others think that's not right and their view is better, folks should have strict controls what they can do and when they can meet up and what they're allowed to say and think. We in this country are proud and free but in some other places you wouldn't even be allowed ask that. Hey Alex, pipes in his wife, Now you just know that's not true, wars start when one country has great natural resources and the people have a good life and the guys in poorer countries are jealous and want to grab some and then the rich ones get anxious and defensive and they build walls, so now that's how.... Aw Mom c'mon, chips in the big brother, interrupting, that's all old hat, my history teacher says wars go on and on because the underlying issues never really get sorted, the politicians just sweep it under the carpet so they look good and he knows more than either if you. Sam! the middle sister retorts Don't you ever speak to mom like that, You boys are all the same you know, you can't just be decent to each other. Stoopid, replies the older boy, just like a girl to say that, like as if being kind and cissy will solve anything. Now then, Stop fighting, you kids, orders Pop, but of course they all ignore him. In the middle of the ruckus, junior has to shout to make himself heard. Stop it, Stop it all of you, he says, Now I KNOW how wars start.
-
Melissa, thank you so much for your note! Like others, I don't know what it's about and don't care to since it caused an uproar, but I am very impressed that you offered an explaination and solved the problem.
Thank you for respecting us enough to post.

OT - I still have this crappy sinus infection. Actually I am wondering now if it is really a sinus infection or a virus. Taking 6,000 mg of penicillin a day isn't really touching it much at all and we are going on Day #10. What is really ticking me off is my dh is coming down with this same crap now and we are supposed to celebrate our 10 year anniversary this weekend! We may just be holed up in the hotel room the entire time since we can't get our money back now.
-
Jancie ~ I thought being holed up in a hotel room is what you are SUPPOSED to do on your anniversary!
-
Susan - yes....but that would be pre-chemo before sex became so darn painful!!! Sure we still have some fun but not like in the old days! I picked out my bling this year - I didn't want much as I have a good stash but I found these beautiful 2 carat each aquamarine square cut earings with pave diamonds that will complete my set of my aquamarine/diamond necklace and my 4 carat aquamarine ring. I was trying to go easy on DH this year as we have had a few expenses and I am hoping to take a trip to Dallas next month.
-
Janice...
Happy Anniversary to you and your Hubby!!
-
Oh..bummer that it's still so painful. Will that ever go away... or is that a permanent SE of chemo?
Those earrings sound beautiful! (my birthstone is aquamarine!) ... I know what you mean about going easy on the gifts due to expenses. Our 20th anniversary is in May and we orginally had hopes of doing a big trip ~ but that will have to wait. We have a horrificly high medical deductible ($3000/yr!) so between last years BMX and this year's exchange surgery... we just don't have the $ to spend.
I hope you have a fabulous anniversary trip! ... even if it is just cuddling in a hotel next to a pile of kleenex while you watch movies!

My post of "Do not feed the troll" was also deleted.
I haven't bothered to go back but have wondered if maybe some Stage IV ladies might set "It's my turn to collect" straight on what is truly the nightmare of breast cancer.

This thread needs to be shut down. There is nothing but evil, misguided hurtful gossip, and hurt here and it is being feed into a firestorm by a few vipers who have been doing this for years on this Board. One viper never talks about BC or 'her BC' or 'her treatments' Wanna know why-because SHE does not have BC-at all!!! In fact, she does not have cancer-period.And she is one of the women just a stoking this fire of hatred wile raising her hand to God-though gald she and i do not share the same God.!!!! She has created a life here focused on creating lies and meyhem and manipulation in forums up to Stage 4 cancer issues (where she has no business being)-at the expense of the destruction of many women trying to stand on this Holy Ground and to buy one more day-one more moment-one more breath of time before they pass from cancer. And I am one on a single thread of over 70,000 threads on this Board trying to stay alive. There is no EGO (Edging God Out) on this ground-but in those bent on evil doing and in following Satan-and i do not write or talk about these things except in my church-but it is here on this Board and on this thread. And yes, five of you can delete this post an d you will. You all have 70,000 threads to chose from to truly get REAL about the disease of cancer-do you really want to waste your time writing about 'Trolls and how to disguise your computers and your avitars to spy on others." Is that what you women on this thread REALLY WANT TO DO WITH YOU TIME HERE?? Last in saying, the PM system has been broken into by someone on the board who is a hacker (oh let me see, i think Beezie wrote a perfect description on how to change computer identies to spy on trolls". This issue is is imoportnat to me that I will be one of the one's to stand in the light of the Lord and condemn this thread for what it really is. I was being hauled out in an ambulance this morning with pneumonia and an asthma attack (which i know you all care little about because that is not why any of you are on this thread). i was hauled out in an ambulance just after reading and 'ACCUSATION FROM THE MODERATERS THAT I HAD REPORTEDLY SENT A HORRIED PM TO A LADY I DO NOT EVEN KNOW-NEVER HEARD HER TIL THIS AM AND TIL I STARTED READING THIS SITE. I never sent that PM-Hand to God-I never sent that PM. The font used is not a font that i have and i do not write in 24 point font-what you are seeing is how I write-I am in close contact with moderators on this bec i am told that they too are having theIR PM's hacked into-that is why I thought it was a joke when I read it this morning-it is not a joke. And this thread is not a joke. There may be good intent somewhere in here, I do not know but this is Satan driven-or whatever you chose to call Satan-And I will stand here on this ground in the light of God to try to caste out the hatred smouldering in a few in this group of women who are stoking the fire for their own amusement-nothing else. i know because they have done this numberous times on other threads on this board. Now you can continue to talk about me behind my back because that is how Satan works-or you can write to me directly. I will talk to you about me, my beliefs, answer any questions i can, make any amends if i need and welcome MOST anyone with truly open arms. I can do this because of my trust in the Lord and the armor that HE has given me. Bring it on! SV

Wow. I don't know what to say.
Probably saying nothing is best.

I have had a chance to look at today's posts and glad that many of you say you do not know what is going on. If you havd read the first pages started by hyml, and I will name the others if needed, there were obscene and direct personal attacks on me and on the thread that I am on-by the same four women who have been trying to run me off this board for a year. I talked and asked about sex and was called a "foul mouthed bitch" by CH a year ago. S and J continued the rant until i left in trears and i was absolutely new to the Board, had just been diagnosed, whipped into surgery and knew nothing. I came to the Baord for help and foudn four hateful women. H you want to know who the trolls are-you have it wrong my dear because they are in your backdoor!! SV AND I SO WANT TO THANK MELISSA - YOU HAVE BEEN A GODSEND IN THIS!
-
-
I have read and reread this thread and nowhere do I see anyone attacking you StillVerticle.
I hope you will be feeling better soon after your hospital visit this morning. Perhaps you'll have a new perspective tomorrow.....
-
I read the entire thread and I have to say that I recognised one poster that indirectly attacked SV.
