Chris - thanks - I am a bit better tonight.

Sheila - they did come back, it took them 80 minutes to buy 5 things and pick up a prescription in the same store.  Oh well, still got the soup done and it was yummy.  Let's hope the four hour day helper doesn't get upset with your dad and quit.

I want OCF - maybe tomorrow.

Thank goodness I got the cold - I used that to change plans for football tomorrow.  I invited some friends to come watch the Seahawks at 1, however it actuallly starts at 9:30-10 a.m.  I do not entertain at 9:30 in the morning.  So I called and told people that I have a cold and don't want to prepare goodies/entertain that early but they can come for the Pats game instead.

Oh forget to check the salmon thread - I wanted to see what it said about farmed salmon intake because the naturopath went on and on about pcb's etc. in farmed salmon.  Do you ladies know anything about this?  I usually eat it at sushi but otherwise, I have wild out here.

Deb - sometimes I actually crave spinach sauteed with garlic - must be an iron thing.

RCG ~ What is garam masala?

What did the naturopath have to say about turmeric? Did she recommend you add that to your diet? I do take it along with a mixture of other stuff as it is an anti-inflammatory.

Hi Valjean - Garam Masala is an Indian spice blend, not spicy, just very flavorful and interesting.  It has:cumin, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and sometimes saffron.

She was very very big on turmeric - I bought it and brought it home but am going to talk to the rad onc on Monday before taking it as it is an antioxidant and they have asked us not to add antioxidant supplements during rads.  I am anxious to add these things in but want to make sure it is the right time to do so.  I am putting together all my notes as my BREAST friends at radiation asked for the information.

Here were her top recurrence prevention measures outside of food and supplements:  put a charcoal filter on every shower, your skin is your largest organ and absorbs all the chemicals in the water.  Don't use plastic water bottles or storage containers.  Don't cook in Teflon. Exercise as much as you can. Don't eat microwave popcorn because the bag is lined in teflon which leeches into the popcorn in the heat. Use turmeric capsules and green tea.  Don't eat farmed salmon too often, it has too many pcb's. Check out the list of 12 dirtiest foods and buy those organically only. Choose a glass of red wine over a gin and tonic.

I will do some of this in moderation.....which she recommended anyway.  She just likes to throw out all of it and then let you choose.

Good Morning SHeila.  I hope you are still warm!
I am getting ready to watch the Pats kick the Jets butt.  Houseful of kids in the basement watching and DH and I are upstairs with the big tv!  Yay!

Chili, chicken wings, pigs in a blanket (for the kiddies) and a veggie platter.
    Go pats!

That's what's making this such a sad day.....I could hear the moans from my house....seriously.  I am about 3 miles away from the Stadium and can watch the fireworks, bands playing and fans booing.  So sad!

Bumming about the Pats.  Now we have to listen to my DD's friend gloat after we were talking smack about the Pats beating the Jets on Facebook yesterday.   Pats should have won.  Why'd they pick this game to have a bad day?  Sigh.

RCG ~ Thanks for the info on garam masala, have never heard of it like that. I have, & use often, all the spices in it except for the saffron. I use all my spices often, can't believe I ever used to cook without them when I first got married. How bland my foods must have been & DH never complained! But then he grew up on his Mother's cooking & he always told me any food was better than that, which was one step above anything in the Army's chow line. (I'm sure their food is much better now, of course!)

My Rads Onc said it was okay to continue to use any antioxidents that I was on while going through tx, but I took it upon myself to take a break from them because of the research I'd done. Wanted to be on the safe side.

I finally got a new set of cookware: Calphalon Hard Anodized. The teflon had been coming off my old stuff & I'd stopped using them quite a while ago, so I was using odds & ends of stainless & corning glass. I have a smooth-top stove & have to be careful what I use on it so as not to scratch it. So far I really like the new stuff.

You will love the calphalon.  I have used it for years.  I used to have the Calphalon with the non stick and threw it all away when I was DX.   I bought another set of the Calphalon without the non stick.  I love it and I have a smooth surface stove too.

    Good morning all!

Ha - I thought of you, Linda, when I fell in the snow in my backyard a little while ago!  I twisted my ankle - I have the world's weakest ankles - and plopped right down.  Didn't get hurt just snowier than I had planned - LOL.  Went out to clear away the end of the sump pump pipe and survey the ice - gutters are frozen solid - hope we don't have a problem tomorrow with whatever snowy/icy/rainy weather we're going to get.  We don't usually need the sump pump - but now that we've done all that work in the basement - don't want to take any chances.

Hope everyone is doing well today.  Diane, are you feeling better?  Sheila - I hope all your heating problems are over.  I'm supposed to be ironing.   Blah.

Hey all, kind of hard to type with drainage running out of my nose and holding a tissue.  I woke up at 6, had some tea, went back to sleep and slept right through my rad appt.  Thank goodness they said I can come in about an hour.  I feel better, just drippy and sneezy.

Chris, I think you need to prop that ankle and rest ALL day :)  Eff the ironing.

Sheila - are you warm still?  Thinking of you.

Linda - So your new pans are not non-stick, how does that work with an egg or something like that?

Valjean - Saffron is so darn expensive, the most expensive spice in the world so I am not surprised that many people don't have it.  I found it at Costco or I wouldn't have spent  the typical $18 for .03 oz.  So are we sure hard anodized is ok then?

I still haven't finished my notes but I will soon.

Thank You for asking yes the heat is coming full force.

    Sorry for your ankle chris

Diane sorry about your nose. I have been there few days ago. Yes you have to hold something under your nostrilsWink when you are typing , eating or drinking and its annoying.

I leave the rest for later

Saffron is not that expensive in NY unless there are quality issues that makes it $18.00

Oh my ankle's fine - just thought it was funny that I fell in the snow after Linda mentioned almost getting stuck the other day.

I've been effing the ironing for too long.  Drowning in it now.  I'm so lazy.

Sorry your nose is running like that.  Glad you could get the extra sleep and still get your rad appt for the day.

I just put a little bit of olive oil or a speay of pam and I am good to go with the pans.  I love them!

We are screwed with this weather.  I cannot believe all the snow is still on the ground, in the trees and on my roof!  Now we will have 4 more inches tomorrow morning and then rain and ice on top of it.  Not good!  The power lines are still encrusted in snow.  This can't end pretty!

    Hope you feel better Diane!
