Hi all - Getting excited and counting down as well. I so wanted to go to Vegas last year but i had just started chemo and taking reactions to it - so this year I am really pumped and bringing another ta-ta as well as our close friend and support sister. Can't wait to meet all of you - How many days now??? 42
-
Hi Ladies....I'm curious, does anyone have room for another person in there room? If you do could you email me at twalkerict@yahoo.com and let me know how much it would be.
Thanks,
Teresa
-
Dr Marisa Weiss..Pres and founder of BC.org will be on Joy Behar show Weds. night
so glad to get an update on Packer....thankful things are looking up
-
So glad to hear Packer is ok. Tell her we'd love to hear from her!
-
Wow! Lots of east coasters! Wonder how large the entire group will be? Guess I could look up top and count...
-
Journey - go ahead and count the people because I am too lazy to do so. That would tax my brain
-
Oh and when you east coasters will be going to bed.....I will be up for at least another 3 hours. What is so nice about Vegas is that you can stay up late and gamble yet your roomies can go upstairs and sleep uninterrupted.
Of course unless you snore.......
-
Unless you win BIG and come back to the room saying WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
-
LOL My360
As for how many: I think the last confirmed headcount showed around 22 for each event and I did count the list in the header once and it's over 40 -- so either a lot of people aren't going to be there or they haven't yet PM'd Jazzy.
So please everyone if you have not yet done so -- send a PM to Jazzy saying which days/nights you are going to be in for group activites!
-
UM Terri....... a TRUE TATA says...........
WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Not WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..... LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!!
Saskie... we are happy to have you this year !!!! Last year.. I went.. and it was great... great!! BUT I was still so tired from rads.. and was still on Herceptin... Many of us were JUST coming off SOME type of treatment... so this year... I do believe.... will be great and everyone will be 100% themselves...

Ladies,
I am the woman who posted the message to Linda54 on the Latissimus Dorsi Reconstruction thread. I was quite surprised that Linda brought the issue up for discussion to this forum, and I was even more surprised to read that in response, I was being accused of harrassing her, not appreciating her good intentions, and being portayed as "clearly not in a good place." My goodness. My interest is not a referendum on Linda54; in fact, I think the less said about her (or any other individual) the better. My interest is giving women a place where they can get honest, open information. I also believe that women who might be suffering from problems due to surgery, as over 40% of all women who have undergone mastectomy with or without reconstruction do, have a place where "girlfriends" will tell them the truth: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Doctors don't always have the time nor the inclination to do so.
I am one of the lucky ones. My cancer(s) were caught at a relatively early stage.I have the head of Dana Farber as my oncologist; their chief breast cancer surgeon taking care of me, and one of the leading Plastic Reconstructions who specializes in lat flaps. Yet, their message to me is clear: bilateral mx and lat flap reconstruction is a tough operation. The aesthetic results are great (my new breasts look better than the old ones--my husband is thrilled!) Yet, it is a tough operation--particularly bilateral. It is so difficult that hospitals like John Hopkins no longer perform this type of surgery. There are a lot of potential side effects.
I made the post to Linda54 in response to her August 11,2010 post to Imed46. In the post, Linda 54 stated that: "I breezed right through all my surgeries and expansions without any problems." Yes, I found that statement disingenuous. Even if it was true, it does not help anyone who has concerns or is suffering. In fact, I too PM'd Linda54 before my own surgery to get the "real scoop" on lat flap surgery. She told me it was great! No problem. Side effects like iron bra were never mentioned.
I am one year post-op, and everytime I have reached out on this forum for help, Linda54 was also there--trying to get help. Imagine my surprise. On 12/16/09, I posted and asked for help with lat flap tightness. In response, someone suggested that I post a PS on another website with my issue/question. By the time I got to the website, Linda54 had already posted the PS question about her problem with tightness/iron bra feeling. (The PS consequently did not want to respond to my question--he considered it a duplicate.) I don't understand? I thought she had a great result? No problems?
I have found little tolerance on this board for people who have had problems after surgery. I posted my own problems with lat flap surgery on this board and got an outpouring from women who felt similar frustration; women who needed to talk about their experience. Linda 54 thought I was "talking down" the surgery.I felt I was telling other women the truth. Unfortunately, the topic was ultimately sidetracked into a rather unproductive debate about reconstruction vs. no reconstruction so I decided to delete the thread.
I stand by my belief that this forum should include an open, honest discussion, and in particular, provide help to those who are suffering. If you experience difficulties/ side effects from surgery-- I don't think you should tell others that you "breezed through surgery." I also believe that if someone posts over 2,145 messages on this site, they appear to be the self-appointed "resident expert"on the issue. That comes with an obligation to tell the "whole story." I also think that it's important to be mindful of the fact that people would like to learn about other women's experiences --not just one woman's experience.
Thank you for listening. I don't post very often on this website, and I doubt I will again as a result of this experience. Yet, I do feel it is important that women who are considering having bilateral Lat flap surgery know what to expect. It would have helped me. By the way, my relentlessness to get help from side effects of lat flap surgery has paid off. I have gained a tremendous amount of info/solutions to lat flap tightness, implant rippling, pain with implants, and natural remedies. If anyone needs help, please feel free to PM me. I would be happy to share what I have learned in the past year. Thank you.

ScaredStraight - I guess your self appointed mission is to stalk Linda on bc.org? Ya came to the wrong place to do that. I personally know Linda and there is not a bad thing I can say about her, but you seem to have made is your calling to throw mud in her face 'round every corner. So, you are upset that she posts when someone asks about the same surgery she had? Is that not what we are here helping each other with? So, she had a good outcome with the LAT flap? Yep, she has had an issue with the Implant and tight bra feeling, but has found relief in stretching. And your point is?
This is a community of folks sharing stories and we don't all have the same story. Some ladies actually DO breeze right thru their reconstructions. Others have horrible experiences. And then there are the rest who struggle but eventually have outcomes they are okay with. It is a Journey full of hills and valleys. I think you are stuck in the valley of the fear of it all right now. There are plenty of sources on the internet to read about statistics and probable outcomes. But, I think folks come here to get the more personal side of the story. Linda is simply sharing HER side of the story. Sorry it doesn't match Yours. But it is HERS. You can't keep trying to take that away from her. All you need to do is politely share your experience without tearing down others that post. Then the reader can measure what each person has to say and make their own informed decision. It's that simple. I hope better days are coming for you soon.

I thought this topic was just for us girls who are going to Vegas or interested in going!!!
SS post was so long I did not read all of it. Ladies I am so sorry she came here. Thanks Gretchen for your response. :-) I checked and she is right about one thing...I did use the word "breeze" describing "all" my surgeries. That was a wrong choice of words and when I am wrong I do appologize...but that still does not mean that I did not have an easy time recovering from my surgeries....just want to clear that up.
Please everyone, do not respond to her. I do not want this to be an ongoing issue. Just ignore her post. .....so let's continue to plan and get excited about Vegas...wooooohooooo
Love Linda
-
Hugs everyone. Look forward to finally meeting you all. This will be fun!!
Laura - Do you ever sleep???
-
WOW....lol OK...HUGS to all!!!
I'm in my hometown with my mom and my sister...my sister is going in this morning to have a breast reduction surgery.. Of course she is nervous and I am the experienced one to be here to help out!! She has never had babies and the only surgery or even being in the hospital at all was to have a hysterectomy years ago. Please keep my sis in your prayers today. I know the surgery will go well, but I just pray that the outcome will make her happy. As you all know that post surgery depression can really kick in. Thanks girls!!
I'm going to post the list sometime today. I will want you all to look them over and let me know if you are signed up for the right thing and if your name isn't on there then you will need to pm me. I'm taking my computer to the hospital this morning so maybe I can get a connection and work on the list then.
I hope you all are having a great week!! I think of you all constantly...weird huh but I know you all can relate. :-) We just ROCK! WE ARE THE TATA SISTERHOOD!!! WOO HOO!!!
Oh btw Laura...I still say WOO HOO! LOL I am known on another board (not here) as the WOO HOO girl...so I don't dare change..haha You are DEFINITELY the WAAAHHHOOOOOOO GIRL!!!
