Jancie...The Barbary Coast is now Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon...no nickles...sorry. I was just there last week...had a balst there!!
-
Janice -- aw I hear ya. I used to do quarters in a bucket. Walk down a row of machines and deposit coins till I hit something and could get the quarters to tumble. Those days are gone. So are the black fingertips from handling all the money though. It is probably more sanitary.
-
JANCIE... you old dog you...... GREAT to see ya! Stop making trouble for your hubbys Ex, would ya!
-
Laura - can't wait to see you again! OMG - I have hair - you are going to be shocked at how different I look! That doesn't mean I won't bring some wigs with me just for the heck of it
-
ok, ladies, since it's ALL about the clothes . . . what is the "dress code" for the weekend? I'm assuming casual and bathing suits for daytime and something a little "cute" for evenings out? Is there anything I need a really nice outfit for? Are there any breast cancer events, being that it's breast cancer awareness month, the we are attending? Do I need to pack all of my "breast cancer" tshirts? Wasn't there an event that you all went to last year?
Susie, how are you doing today? I'm so glad it went better than expected in the hospital and you came home early. Is it still improving??? We want you ready to whoop it up in Vegas. How many more days now?
Remember girls, only 3 more days to book rooms! They get released to the general public on the 15th!
-
LOL Laura

Mona
I am packing very light....only a carry-on...so that means I am bringing very little...nothing fancy..
and since it sounds like we will be walking a lot then I will be bringing comfortable shoes...no heels for this old gal.
-
Mona - I am bringing a suitcase because I can't fit my clothes, drugs, and toiletries in a carry on bag. With that being sad, I still pack very light - I wish I had a medium size bag. Comfortable shoes are a must. Especially if you have someone like Packergirl telling you that walking from New York, New York back to the Mirage was not a long walk
In Vegas you can wear anything. You can be outright casual or dress up in sequins. It is all about what you feel comfortable wearing. Do know that it will be HOT!!! Do not plan on wearing pantyhose!!! They will stick to your legs within 5 minutes of being outside.
I wore shorts and scrubs the entire time I was there. I think I brought one pair of jeans but no dresses or skirts. Bring extra t-shirts or tops with you because you will probably be changing those twice a day due to the extreme heat and sweating.
-
Jancie you so funny...lol so good to have you back!! The dress for Vegas is like Jancie said...very individual! It's only hot if you plan on spending a lot of time outside. It's rather cool inside with the airconditioning in all of the casinos. I always do carry on ...thats just me. Easy on easy off. I pack flip flops and a pair of heels for night time...but that's JUST ME!
I just got the email that they are cancelling the Paint the Square Pink this year!!!! WAH! Too bad we won't be there Sept 30th for their Las Vegas Review Journal Goes Pink!
Although we will be there for:October 2, 20100

-
Travel light... LOL LOL
I have two cases last year.. and my carry on. Heavens.. I had to have a shoe bag...LOL
Everyone brought a dressy outfit.. as we did play dress up one night. I STRONGLY advise you bring one..." dress up... going out attire" Just in case.
I promise this yr to bring only two cases....:)
-
Laura - I don't remember playing dress up! When did we do that? Or did I just go out in shorts anyways? Some of the trip was a total fog due to my treatments.
BTW - don't count me in for breakfast on Sunday if we are going to the Piano Bar on Saturday night - last time we got in around 4 am? or was it 4:30 am? I just remember sleeping until noon that day.
-
No more needles for me Jazzy! I do think it would be hilarious if 30 of us or so show up at the tattoo parlor - they won't know what in the heck to do with us! Wonder how far that place is off the strip?
I wonder if they have stuff that would just wash off? We could get pink ribbons or something like that and then head to the piano bar with our TaTa shirts on!
Girl - you had better get busy with the piano bar reservation!
-
Um...Jancie did you miss the champagne brunch last yr>>?? I would NOT miss that!! Remember it's mid day on sunday...
-
Oh My Goodness Laura do you wear 2 cases of clothes and 1 case full of shoes on a regular weekend?? lol You funny girl.
Jancie...pm's still coming in so cannot make a reservation without an accurate count....plus we still have plenty of time. :-)
-
Jazzy - I made the brunch last year but I think it was around 2 pm? I was so hung over that day. I paid extra for the champagne and could only drink 1/2 of a glass. I left after a couple of hours, went back to the room and took a nap because I knew we would be up again late on Sunday night saying good byes.
-
Glad we still have time to make reservations for the piano bar. For those that didn't go last year and the newbies this year - this is the one event you don't want to miss!!!!
-
Since I'll be there for a week (4 more days with DH after you all leave), I'll definitely be checking a bag, but I don't think it will even be as much as Laura packed for just a weekend! Sheesh girl! You are high maintenance! LOL Out timeshare also has washer/dryer in our unit, so I can pack lighter anyway.
As for the "ink" I am definitely not a tattoo girl, but if they do the temporary henna tattoos, I'd be up for that! Maybe a little pink ribbon butt-hat! LOL
I'm getting so excited!
-
The Scotch (blood) in me cringes at the thought of paying an extra 50 bucks to Delta to check a bag so I'll do all I can to fit into a carry on. I want that $50 for FUN! My problem is always that I never know what I want to wear until it's time to get dressed. So preplanning a wardrobe is a real pain for me. (Think it comes from a childhood of school uniforms with NO choices - lol) Also, I have to decide what shoes I am going to wear and design up from there. Weird I know!
Any East coasters coming??? Will I be the only one struggling to stay awake over dinner?
-
I'm an East Coaster Gretchen -- you'll be so pumped with adrenaline from the high of being with all of us you'll do fine!
No ink for me either, I'm afraid, ladies.
Jancie -- 4 AM!? -- wow not sure I will last that long but we shall see.
-
Lilah - I believe only 5 or 6 of us made it to the closing of the piano bar which was around 3 am and then it was a 1 hour walk back to the hotel. That wouldn't have been bad if I hadn't finished my last radiation appointment the day before so I was fatigued from the radiation.
The sun never goes down in Vegas. You won't see any clocks that I remember. Since everything on the strip is 24/7 you don't even realize what time it is until your head starts bobbing.
What about the coffee issue?
-
Jancie -- The coffee issue? Is there an issue with coffee?
LOL Jancie I have been to LV dozens of times... but usually only with an SO and so there was not a lot of late night partying (maybe some late night gambling though
You are amazing to have done that weekend last year so soon after TX -- wow! You ROCK!
I am looking forward to sharing this trip with all of you!
-
Lilah - many of the hotels in Vegas do not have coffee makers in the rooms. The reason is that they want you on the gambling floor in the mornings which means you have to hit Starbucks and since you are right there with the slot machines they figure you will start gambling.
I know the Mirage didn't have coffee makers but I don't know about Planet Hollywood.
There were a couple of ladies that drove last year and brought coffee makers with them and we would meet in their room in the morning. I only made it one morning because after the first night I was getting up too late.
-
Ah ok -- I just looked at the PH website for a desription of rooms -- it does not say there is a coffee maker. So I called and asked. They said no coffee machines.
-
Lilah you are too funny... You called and asked?? You must really need your coffee. I hope Bally's has them.. My husband stayed at Bally's last year but of course he cannot remember. I think I will wait and see instead of calling and asking
..
-
Lilah - I had to laugh - I called the Mirage last year to find out if there were coffee makers in the room and there wasn't! I had also checked out the website first before I called them.
-
Laura, you make me laugh! Two bags plus a carry on!!!! At least I won't be the only one!.........lol I'll try to keep it down to one bag plus a carry on....that's usually where I stash my shoes! As for dressing up one night, count me in for that......Love dressing up since I no longer work and occasions for dressing up are pretty rare other than our annual winter cruise. But as you say, anything goes in LV !!!
Terri
-
Laura: One bag just for shoes....me too..
As for coffeepots, only in the suites and then only sometimes. Vegas is not known for coffeepots. It's coming so close, I can't wait. JUDY
-
I did not go last year but seems like I remember that Deborah brought her own coffee pot because she was driving and could also bring ALL her pillows....LOL
I will bring a dress but it is more casual that dressy...I don't do dressy...no heels, no jewels...I have not had on panty hose in years. I like to be comfortable.... dressy is not comfortable for me.....I am very low maintenance....less is better in my book. I do like my make-up and hair done.
Jancie, you are so funny girl......
Laura girl....you do not need that many clothes and shoes..LOL...
I have Gretchen's attitude...save the money on luggage and use it to have FUN!!....Hey, Gretch...2 hrs difference in time for me but 3 for you....it will be tough on both of us.
-
Linda54 - I am totally with you on the casual look! I fly in scrubs and only scrubs. I don't want to sit down on that plane and have a pair of jeans cutting me in the waist with my fat roll hanging over. I only lost 10 lbs of the 30 chemo pounds. I was totally planning on losing weight before ya'll saw me again - chubby last year - but after the fall off my horse, I still can't work out. Thankfully I see the specialist on August 26th. If he wants to do any surgery - that is going to have to wait until after Las Vegas unless he can guarantee me that I can be up, walking, sitting and gambling for hours on end. I still have enough lortabs to get me through the pain right now.
If I bring a skirt then I will have to go out and buy some black sandels and since I so hate to shop - don't think that is going to happen.
I am not one for make up very often but I am going to have to take the time to do so to keep up with Laura since she is so gorgeous and presents herself in "perfect condition" when you see her. I think it would be fun to room with her one time to see what she looks like when she wakes up in the morning and if she has bed head because you would never know it.
-
Gretchen: I'm from the East coast too--we can prop each other up
