We have a HERO on our boards.  Blackjack saved a life and those kids will ALWAYS remember the day their school nurse revived that chick.

I hear Spring is really coming for real on Monday.  She just overslept a bit!

Zap...being a teacher you know that unexpected things happen in a classroom. This was one of those days. I really don't like the all page call to run down to a room. But this was a first for me. Those tiny faces staring at me.. some crying over a baby chick... well I said a little prayer and hoped for the best. So my pray was answered and the little chick beeped. So now I am known as the chick nurse to my kindergarten kids. Guess I will keep watching those animal shows. lol

We need the snow be gone fairy...think spring everyone.

We didn't get the snow or much rain....just a few sprinkles, but it's sure windy and LOTS colder than yesterday.  It's hard to believe that I played 18 holes of golf yesterday!

YEA Blackjack!  You are indeed a hero!  How neat!  Enjoy your spring break.

I  just love the whole chick story.  Amidst  all our worries, we have a "good news" story about a chick  (such a tender thing) that was saved.

I so want to visit your place, Buddy.  I cannot believe I know someone who raises chickens.  I am so stupid on how that all  works.

    One question:

I took CPR and have my card and I know the Heimlich Method, but never start choking on me because I have Heimlich performance anxiety.....but

What exactly did you do to get that chick breathing again!?

This, Black Jack, is all worth the fulltime.  Those kids (and may I add the terrified teacher) needed for OUR nurse to save the day and change hstory for that little guy! Now just REST on your laurels!

Zap  come on down.  We would love to have you.

I'm with you on the h???? lich??? maneuver and cpr anxiety.  I just know I would do something wrong.  When in reality I guess doing somthijg wrong is better than not doing anything.

How to save a baby chick...first I put on my rubber gloves as I am very squeamish about holding things that have feathers and germs of course. I blew air into its face and kept rubbing its chest. Chick nurse to the rescue. lol  I guess it was CPR on a baby chick. I just kept doing this and praying it would not die. We already had a black chick die this week. It was so deformed it was sad but a blessing that it was not suffering anymore. I have seen humans have intestines outside there abdomens but not chicks. Buddy you would know about deformed baby chicks? How does that happen?

Anyway the chick are gone and spring break is here.. now it is time to relax.

I hope you all are having a great weekend...Time for tea and jammies for me.

Morning....I see the snow has finally stopped but we have no sunshine here!  Let's all go to Laura's......

BJ....CPR for baby chicks!  I love it!

Budders....how's that dead corn looking today?

Marina....how's the baby and DH?  I hope they are feeling better....

Not much new around here...DH's nose is just running, running.  We did rent "About the Morgans" last night...I know it didn't get good ratings but we thought it was pretty funny.  DH watched "The Hurt Locker" and loved it but said it was VERY intense.  It didn't sound all that interestng to me so I didn't see it.  We did go out for dinner last night and I bought home most of my dinner which was Penne Broccoli in olive oil...and managed somehow to let it leak all over my wallet, coat and jeans.  Had to throw the wallet out, jeans and coat have been washed 3x and while the stains seem to have come out, the garlic smell remains!  I have sprayed febreeze on them now and hung them outside.  Oh well......

Hope everyone is doing OK and enjoying Sunday....

    Good morning everyone,

Rain here today --ick.  Temps did not seem all that bad so maybe we are not nearly reverting as seems to be the case up North.

Hope spring just bounces right back in.....really soon.  Not much planned for the day, but then working daily is not conducive to making many.  I will just take it as it comes.  Dh says...lets go out for breakfast and it is hard to refuse an invitation like that so we have something on the agenda.

Hope you all will have a good day -- no matter what the weather is doing.  Hope your clothes get freshened up Wendy.  Hang them out closest to your vampire neighbors...and make the problem into a solution.

    Hugs, Jackie

Oh that picture is so pretty!

Wendy, it is sick that your dh is sick on his break!  Speaking of intense, have you seen Precious?  Oh, so intense.

Laura, good for you for eating Mexican today.  You may not realize it, but today is Benito Juarez's birthday.  Now the only reason I know that is because Paul and I were down in the Pilsen neighborhood last night (I know, we are nuts) as I was having a Honky Tonk Barbecue craving.  That is the only NON-MEXICAN restaurant on 18th street and there was a lot going on in preparation for his birthday.  Great place to visit if you love Mexican Food and your are not fearful of sketchy areas in the city.

I hope all the ladies intreatment are feeling better.  Marina, you have so much going on.  I sure pray the nanny stays healthy.  This is a hard year for you  and you tend to e so upbeat.  Lay it on  us if you need like scremaing and have the strength to type it out.

Buddy, how many chickens do you have?

    Have a fun day, all!

Thank God for great parents. My Mom and Dad stayed over and helped with the baby.. so I got some sleep.. Gabriella is better, though my DH is still laid up in bed.. looking like a ghost.. but he'll be fine.. just needs a few more days... SO. my new idea this morning is to get some books.. I've been on this site looking for recommendations.. So far came up with :

Cancer 50 Essetial Things to Do, Antic-cancer A new way of Life, Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips, Beating Cancer with Nutrition and What to Eat if you Have Cancer.. All five on Amazon for $50 with shipping.. Not too bad..

BUT, before I click to buy.. wanted to see if anyone had anything else to recommend?

Thanks everyone for all your continued support.. can't ever say how much I appreciate it.. Believe it or not.. I am supporting a friend's Dad already who got diagnosis last week!!

Mmmm.....Mexican food sounds good to me but we're just having meatloaf and baked potatoes tonight.

Marina, so glad that your folks could help you out and that you got some much-needed rest.  So sorry to hear about your friend's Dad but glad that you're able to offer some comfort and support to him.

It's overcast, dreary, and windy here with occassional sprinkles.  I decided the library was a good place to spend the afternoon.  Now I have lots of good research materials and books to read this week!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend, in spite of the weather, and that those of you in treatment are doing well.

    Hi ALL.. happy spring...;lolol!!!1

marina.. WOW..all i can say is take it slow and easy and REST. Hope the baby is ok as of today. It has to be hard as they are so powerless in expressing what their needs are. GOOD you were able to do a TX and numbers were good. One more to check off!

Rene..Hope you are feeling better by now also!!IF some steady spring weather would come for goodness sake, we may be a bit healthier!!!!snow does not help and this damp weather!!! Take care!

Connie..GOOD you are off the Actonel for what it was doin for you. What is the Dr suggesting? I have never been good on meds and never will be so can relate!

LAURA.. are you hitting the vodka or is the vodka bottle hitting you..lol.. SURE blame it on the passer by's with the problem..lolol!!! Could not resist!!!! That shopping spree at the Junket place sounds like genuine fun!!!! What did you buy? Were your drunk still from the alleged bottle found?!Oh am i goin to start something now!!!!

Being in the school system here as i have been for about 5 years.. so much is happening without the changes and feel so much for the kids and FOR the teachers who lost their jobs. ALot of pink slips went out this week and the tensions is so bad. There certainly is no such thing as a secure job anymore. Wendy...Bless your hubby for his feelings !!!!susan..good you are retried now!! Working as you want etc.

Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

    Regards,

    Donna

Hi ladies - just checking in.

Marina - sorry you are all so sick.  You do not need that right now!  Hope you feel better soon.

Hugs to you Ginny.  I think of you often.

Marina - My wig salon told me to call ahead and ask if they cover wigs (they also told me to request a head prothesis.  I called ahead and they told me they don't cover them. So, I didn't even try to submit it.  Like Susan, it was one of the last things I wanted to worry about.  I probably should have fought it.

I rented Precious yesterday.  Very intense movie but very good.  I haven't seen Hurt Locker but heard it was good.  I think my DH would like it.

We have one more week of school before spring break.  Hope we can keep the kids busy for the week!

Donna Dear - You can "start something" any time you want. lol Actually...not only did I find many Vodka bottles, but Whiskey too! lol And, beer, and pop, and wine! Too sad! As for the Junk Warehouse...I have a collection of vintage games and toys displayed on a wall in our basement. I found a vintage game to add to it. They did have some great items. If you ever head up north...I'll take you there.

Connie - One more week! No doubt you'll be a very busy gal!

    Hi all,

Going up to bed, but wanted to let Marina know that my wig and bras went towards non-ppo deductible, but I did get reimbursed from my flex-spending plan for it, so if you do that, you may want to submit it there.

Hi, ladies..  stop by on the way to bed..

I got sad news from my cousin in CA.. She told me one of her friends got dx with stage 2 Breast Cancer and it did spared to lymph nodes.. I don't know the details yet but she also has two little boys like me...  My cousin was asking me if she can give my contact info to her friend..  I told her to do so, I don't mind talk to her friend and give her support as much as I can and as long as she wants to contact with me..  too bad she is not from around here I would ask her to join here..

It is just heart braking and sad to hear that another person got dx with bc, why why why....

My thoughts and prayers are with you ladies in treatment and hope everyone is getting good night sleep..

    Good morning ladies.

Susan, I love reading your posts.  You seem to find lots of fun things to do!

Yes, elfsong, my heart breaks too every time I hear of another bc diagnosis and I ask the same question..............why?  In the meantime, I continue to sign up for the walks and rallys to help earn money to hopefully find the cure.  We need that cure!

Marina, I hope that everyone at your house is feeling better today and will continue to improve as the week progresses.  You're due for a reprieve, gal!

Laura, have you started your new job yet and if so.........how's it going?

Connie, how do you feel now that you're off the Actonel?  I bet your kids are getting excited about spring break.  The couple that we bowl with have 3 grandchildren that live with them and those boys were really "hyper" last night.  Their break starts today.  I think everyone needs a break from the routine about this time of year.

I really like Mondays because I usually have absolutely nothing on my schedule.  I think I'll hide in the office and write lots of questions today.

    Be back later.

While looking for a quote for "Monday" I stumbled on this and felt a lot of silent laughter so thought maybe it was a good one starting out a rainy Monday morning.

I have a "carpe diem" mug and, truthfully, at six in the morning the words do not make me want to seize the day.  They make me want to slap a dead poet.  ~Joanne Sherman

Good Morning or Afternoon!  I too love Mondays, everyone goes back to work and I have peace and quiet.  Time to straighten up from the weekend, pay some medical bills - they do get confusing even to them and just take some down time.  I am amazed at all of you having to go thru this with having children and jobs - where do you get the energy?  I could use some!

Marina - my thoughts and prayers go to you that you all get over that nasty cold.  Would love to see baby pics.  We haven't had a baby in the family for like 10 years!  There are many great websites where you can get free knitting patterns.

I am a crocheter and made sweaters for the dogs in the family for Christmas and am working on a baby blanket to sell.  I love to sew but miss the feelings on the tips of my fingers, it just isn't the same when sewing with them.   I love to make Vera Bradley type purses and just design my own purse or tote with the pouches I want.  I am hoping to get enough energy to sew new valances for my family room.

Jackie - I love that picture.  Any idea of what kind of flowers those are?  Am planning my pink garden and enjoying it.  Also planted seeds and so many have germinated!  Gives me a peak at spring from inside the house.

Everyone have a great day, I believe everything happens for a reason and when one door closes another one opens.  I have met the strongest women on this site!

Marina I would rather read something about something else than cancer, and get my mind off of it.  I finished a couple weeks ago the book Hotel on the corner of Bitter and sweet.  It is partly about the Japanese interned during WW!!  It was very good.  I read all the time.  I love everything, fiction, mystery, biography, not much of a sci-fi fan. If you have not read the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society which came out a couple years ago and it is another WWII era story I really enjoyed.  My sister is librarian and send me suggestions occasionally.  It is a good thing I do like to read, when I have not had the energy to do other things this last year, I was content to sit and read.  I am hoping my energy level and my knees improve now that I am done with herceptin.  I can tell I had  it last week because my knees just ache.  They were doing much better before last week when I had my last dose.  I had missed the one before that because I had a cold and then was gone for 2 weeks so the onc just let me skip one and knees felt much better with the 6 weeks between herceptin.  Now I can look forward to maybe they will get to feel alot better in a few weeks.  The warm weather may help too.  Right now the only meds I take are prilosec, calcium and vit D.  It is hard to believe after all the stuff we have had to take and do in the last year.  It is nice to be to the just check-up stage now.  For those of you not there yet, I know it does no seem like it will ever come, but you finally get get to that point.  At least most of us do, there are a few who will have a continuous struggle but continue to a have a productive life too.  I see people coming in for chemo who have been doing this for years, but it keeps them in remission so they come in and get chemo and then continue on with their life.  They are really amazing.

Whatever stage you are at you have my best wishes and hugs to all  Annette

Annette!  You're finished!  Yea!   Congrats on finishing the treatments and getting back to your life!  I hope your knee continues to improve now that you're done with the Herceptin.  Hugs to you! I'd love to see you again.  Maybe we can get together for lunch, dinner, or just a good chat this spring or summer.....and of course, you're always welcome at one of our monthly gatherings.

Even though you are done with the actual treatments, please continue to "drop in" every so often and touch base with us.

    Rita
