I spoke to mom again last night, the break is what they call a green break, think of a green branch from a tree and if you try to break it in two, it will split and sliver, not break clean. She also said that they were going to take a metal plate and put it against the bone and use small screws to hold the metal plate in place. She just joins myself and my husband with metal support for our bones (I have a metal rod in my back, and my husband has a metal rod/pins in his femur/hip area from a hit&run 17 yrs ago). She told me not to come to the hospital today, she would be fine. I told her that everyone was praying for her healing and she said that she appreciates the prayers and thoughts.

Mom just called, she did fine, they put an IV in with some drugs that the anestiologist said would make her feel slightly drunk, it put her to sleep, they also did a nerve block (I think) on her leg. She said that she is great and will stay in her recliner with her foot up for a couple of days. She will probably come to Church on Sunday but stay in her regular pew and not come up in the Choir. She goes to the ENT on Monday morning (I am taking her) and back to the foot surgeon Monday afternoon to change the wrapping on her foot. Thanks again for your prayers and thoughts.

Sheila thanks for the update, she'll stay in my prayers until the "all-clear". Speaking of which, has anyone heard from Cathi and/or Ella?

    Happy New Year (however belatedly)

Sorry I have been awol of late, had a lovely hour catching up on all the news.

Shiela, your poor wee mum! It's amazing how a seeming simple incident can have awful consequences. She seems to be a feisty little lady and I am sure sure she will make a complete recovery. I love the image of her tidying the house in a walker!!!! Keep us up to date and tell her that I am asking after her.

Cathi, are the kids any bettter? It is hellish to see them struggling for breath (my sisters 2 eldest had asthma, so colds were compounded) We had a nebuliser for them. Is there any chance that might help Ella?

So much news ... Mel, mucho congrats on the engagement. They make a very handsome couple, and look so happy! Great news, and thanx for your always welcome good wishes and words of wisdom. MUCH appreciated.

Judie - you have an adventurous son, you should be awash with pride that at that young age he is fearless enough to travel, and take on the world!!!. When he comes to Scotland, I would love to show him around Glasgow/Edinburgh. I will PM you my mobile number. Just think of all the stories he will come back with, though London can be a bit dangerous, like all big cities, so do tell him to be careful.

Lisa, come on now lady - fess up. WHO IS THE MAN. Need details, close details pretty damn quick! Glaad you enjoyed the hols with your girls ... and mysterious Mr Mr ....?

Well kiddos, news fron the front.

We are in the steel grip of Artic conditions, we here in icy Scotland are a half degree warmer that the SOUTH POLE. Minus 20 odd degrees, with no sign of a thaw. We have actually almost run out of grit and snow. This has been for a month now, so we are all getting a leeetle tired of the winter wonderland by now, buhleeve meee.

I had the most wonderful Hogmany (New Year). Almost all the family, and very close friends were here and we had an absolute blast. I was very sore from the fall (caused by kids throwing snowballs at the ONE solo bus journey I attempted), it is a police matter, 2 women were calling the police about them when I got a snowball in the face and ended under the bus! The ambulancemen wanted to take me to hospital and I told them that I had just come from hospital and was going back tomorrow .... Anyway, my back, shoulders and hip are black and blue and I think the kids have been caught as I got a letter from the police urging me to press charges. Still sore but getting better. Was VERY painful lying on the table for rads though.

On that subject -------- I AM FINISHED!!!!!! 6 weeks later. Got burned at the collerbone (looked like I had a hickey from a vampire, especially when it started bleeding) but not really painful now.

I saw the breast surgeon yesterday (finished rads on Wednesday) and he said it will take a year for me to be healed because of the intensitivness of my therapies. But he will make sure the old tit will be restored to it's former grandeur (LOL) I have an appointment for Jan 2011. It might shrink too, so next year we can discuss next step. Seeing new onc late Feb, slightly apprehansive about that one ...

My head has sprouted some bum fluff (was slightly freaking because about 6% of Tax causes permanent baldness, and my hair took a good while this time. Lost it with FEC, started growing and then lost it again) So we'll see... Fingers ae still numb and all but 2 nails have fallen off, so I feel so clumsy, cannot lift things. Pretty unpleasant, be better if the nails recover though.

Well girlies, think that's all the news. Oh I went out for the first time time in ages (tiredness, rads and the bloody weather, say no more!) to see Sherlock Holmes. fabulous! I love Robert Downing Jr.

    With warmest best wishes

    Nettie xxssssssss

Lisa, OMG, he's a dreamboat! Does he have an available older brother? LOL.

Cathy, I can't believe you had flurries down there. We're in deep cold with some snow, but the sun had enough strength to melt some spots today.

    Nettie...CONGRATS on finishing your rads!

Karen, I loved the house tour on FB.

Ladies, the countdown to my recon surgery is on!  Januray 28th, bilateral DIEP at Beth Israel, Dr. Mark Smith performing, lol. I just had my pre-op clearance tests yesterday, and have made appointments to bank some blood. My older sister arrives 1/27 and will stay for a week or two.

I'm starting to get excited about this, now. The skin-sparing mastecomies were looking a bit ratty. It will be a treat to have breasts again.

Does anyone know if delayed recon has particular problems I should be aware of?  I confess, I was so caught up in the meeting with Dr. Smith that I didn't ask this.

Oh, dear Nettie! You have gone through so much and still sound near your old cheery self. I am in awe. Devin is looking forward eagerly to meeting you, so you must take especially good care of yourself! His paternal line came from Drumkilto, Perthshire and he would someday like to visit. Since the family emigrated to the colonies in the 1600s, there are no relatives. He is also keen to visit Ireland some.

Yes, Lisa, he's a doll. I love black hair and blue eyes...stunning. He'd better treat you well, though, or he'll have eyes to match his hair when I finish with him!!!

Sheila, a greenstick fracture is just what I imagined it might be. Thanks for the update and I know you will do your best to keep your independent mother off her foot with your gentle guidandce and nurturing, making her think it's all her idea! Hugs.

Barbe, Cathi posts mostly on Facebook. She is freezing but sounds great otherwise. Her sense of humor is shining once again. Sounds like Ella is still congested but doing very well.

Ladies on the other side of the pond, I have a question. I talked with my son on Skype this morning. He's already seen a play (Cat On A Hot Tin Roof) and is settling into the flat. He is disappointed that all his flatmates are International students rather than locals, but when school starts he hopes to find some friends. He badly needs a couple of pillows and is certain there is no place nearby to find them. He insists there are only specialty shops in London and he's not quite sure where to look. He is in the Bloomsbury area and within a very reasonable walk to Kings Cross Station and the British Museum. He has found three grocery stores, but what about bedding, school supplies, and other things? Any advice?

WOW - A lot to catch up on. Judie maybe you should E-mail Sue she doesn't check in here to much these days,  I know she was just on FB.

Lisa he's a cutie,  and I agree he better treat you like  A LADY!!!!!

Shelia hope mom and dad are doing well.

Nancy - the count down begins,  prays that you will go through the process without a hitch.

Nettie,  yeah your done with rads, I didn't burn terrible bad ,  some from the boosts but the doc is right it takes about a year for the "TIT" as you said to get back into looking kinda normal,  my burns healded up quickly with the ointment they provided.  My gosh your fall sounds terrible, WOW those kids doing that.  A geezzzzzzzzzz your cold,  guess I have no right to complain,  but I will - IT IS TOOOOOOOOOOOOO COLD .  I did not move to Florida for snow,  sleet and frost.

Anyway hoping everyone is having a great weekend.

    LOVE TO ALL

    Hi All

In response to your question Judie, THE BEST PLACE for top bedding at rock bottom prices is TJ Hughes. I have replaced all my linen in the last couple of years with Egyptian cotton etc from there. I checked and they do not have a London store (surprisingly) but you can buy online. Check it out!! They do all the designer brands for a fraction of what you would pay in say, Debenhams. If you want to give my mobile number to Devlin it is 0788 883 0317and I'll be glad to recommend some other places. What fun! To be able to help shopping! Tell him just to price around at the moment as London can be expensive, can be great too for prices, but like all Capitals you can be ripped off (Edinburgh is just as bad, believe me)  Check out JD Hughes yourself! You can get a memory foam matress topper, a decent feather duvet, Egyptian cotton duvet cover, memory foam pillows and top quality, Christy's towels for about £100!!! £150 if you go for the best quality. He will want to take them home with him! If Devlin wants to visit Ireland, I can advise there too (my dad was Irish) He can sail from Scotland to Belfast for about £15 return. Belfast is the Capital of Northern Ireland (Ulster) and that is British (I know, it's a bit insane and has caused immense problems - now solved - throughout the past 90 years). Dublin, about 100 miles south is the Capital city of ROI (Republic of Ireland) They have a different currency (the Euro) so the "South" is quite expensive to visit as the Euro is strong against the pound just now. But he will love it. So looking forward to meeting him. My beautiful neice is 18, 5' 10, a slim, elegant horse rider who is studying Microbiology and Zoo-ology at the VERY prestigous University of Glasgow (the oldest in Scotland and one of the oldest in the UK) Think I might bring her along ......

Shiela, meant to tell you. "My Hero" is available really cheaply on Amazon. If you like, I will get it for you. It is repeated a lot on UK cable. If I recorded it for you, can you play that format in the US? If you like the main character, he is in an award winnning show called "Father Ted" about 3 priests on a wee Island in Ireland. One of the funniest things ever made!

Well girls, I am off for High Tea, yes, High Tea. A local hotel has revived this very British tradition, wee dainty sandwiches (size of a matchbook) home made scones, jam and clotted cream and tea or coffee. It's lovely, light wee morsels and only £5! We have been a coup;le of times now and it's great!. They serve them in these old fashioned cake stands with layers, it's like stepping back in time!

Lisa, you dog! Where did you get him? Does the shop ship abroad? I am willing to pay the postage (or the airfare) Seriously, he is a wee bit gorgeous, aint he? Best of luck girl. Hope he is as good as he looks, and as good to you as you deserve. Share him with us though, and make me jealous! You really are an inspiration Lisa, So many of us will be wary of embarking on a new relationship after all we have been through and the changes made to us and your story of having fun and living life to the max fill me with hope.

Nancy, good luck with the scaffolding. Most of my boob is still intact, courtesy of FEC,but has a golf ball size "dimple" situated right at the top of my cleavage, so that will be fixed next year. Of the girls I have now met who had had recon, none have had problems, everyone just show off the work!!! Like you say though, not to be lopsided will be great. (Lopsided is the expression they use) Keep us posted

I am on Facebook, but have not really got to grips with it. My new resolution .....

    Off for TEA .....

Oh, I love high tea! I had a belated honeymoon trip to England that included my in-laws (not as bad as it sounds...it was really fun to be with them since my husband was on a totally different schedule and slept during the day.) One of my fondest memories was having a high tea on the lawns around Westminster Cathedral. I don't know if it was a special occasion or if they do it regularly, but we just happened upon the tents and tables all set up. Clotted cream and jelly on scones was what I had. YUM. The cream was so thick it was almost butter, and the jelly was so fruity, maybe it was actually preserves. But it served the same purpose.

Now I've made myself hungry for breakfast. I've only had my morning coffee. LOL.

Lisa, that man is gorgeous!!!!  I've always had a thing for men with blue eyes and dark hair.  My ex has that coloring.  Too bad he turned out to be such a putz!  I wish you all the best this time around.  I'm sure you two make a stunning couple!

Yay Nettie!  You've finished rads!  I'm so excited for you!  I'm so sorry about that fall you took.  That's just awful!  Those kids should be ashamed!

I have a video tour of my house to share with those of you who aren't on Facebook.  The house isn't anywhere near done yet, but I was excited and wanted to share it with everyone.

    Hi Judie

Asda (part of WALLMART) has Silentnight pillows, Egyptian cotton, for £5.00 in their sale. They also have duvets for £15.00 for a 13.5 tog. It is a very good brand.

My local Asda had them, but stores vary.  I checked and the only London store is in Battersea. If he call the following they might be able to advise him if they have any in stock

    0207 233 0101

Otherwise, I would direct him to Argos.

    Hope this helps.

    Love heaps

Cathi - what a gorgeous baby Ella is! She just gets prettier and prettier! I hope she is feeling better - you would never know by looking at her that she has a cold and breathing problems - she is so pink and healthy looking.

Nettie - it's so good to read your posts. You sound so much better, even though I know you are still recovering from the ravages of your treatments. The high tea sounds wonderful. I had many of those when I was in Britain about 23 years ago. There are quite a few places here that offer high tea with all the trimmings and it's quite popular. I do love fresh scones with a nice cup of tea - perfect!

Judi - I'm sure Devin will be keen to meet Nettie's beautiful and intelligent niece! All my boys had a very romantic time in Britain and the continent and no doubt Devin will too!

Nancy - I'm so excited for you re your upcoming recon. Can't wait to hear how it all goes. I often imagine having it done and how good it would be to not have to worry about prostheses ever again - and to be able to walk into any store and buy normal bras!

Lisa - Tom is gorgeous! It's so good to hear you sounding so happy! He's a lucky man to have met you.

Sheila - hope your mother is healing up well. What an unpleasant, freakish accident.

    Love to everyone,

    Jane xoxo

Oh, Cathi! Those girls just get more adorable. You must be so proud. I love seeing all the pictures.

Nancy, I'll be thinking of you a lot. It will take time, but one day it will all be worth it.

Jane, I just couldn't deal with the prostheses after a while. I'm so glad I got my "bumps" installed...I don't ever wear a bra any more. It's so comfy. But then I'm an old lady. If I were younger, I'd for sure do more serious recon.

Karen, the house is amazing. Once obstacles were worked out, it went up so fast! When is the big day?

I've passed on the tips, Nettie. I haven't heard from Devin today and classes begin tomorrow. I told him to keep your number.

I seem to be moving into a new phase of ordinariness. Not down, not especially cheerful, just an inner quiet and days filled with the mundane. It is restful and  feels like healing of the soul is beginning its quiet work at last. I am ready.

Cathi, thank YOU very sharing Ella and Alexcis with us! How are the boys handling all the estrogen? Ella does look so calm and healthy, I hope she's doing better.

    Hugs to all.
