I haven't had a pedicure for ages -- I think I will right before Xmas and get them painted candy apple red!

I couldn't agree more.  It's been a very tough year and if I could, I'd skip the holidays altogether.  Just wanted you to know that I completely understand your feelings and empathize!

I went to church this morning and felt a little better about the holidays...I'm actually a little bit in the mood to decorate, and that's huge.  Smile

Desdemona: MILLIONS of people hate the holidays to death.

Timtam said it all: "Holidays are only good when you have someone to celebrate them with. For someone like me who is single, have no kids nor close family/relatives, it's just depressing"

All that fake joy everywhere, all that hypocrisy (little mocking voice): "...the happiest time of the year.....a time for family and friends....home for the holidays......" DIDAH, DIDAH, DIDAH. Most people are not with family and friends at all. Still more ARE with family and absolutely miserable. The most perfect illustration of the hypocritical society we live in, I think.

The period from Thanksgiving through Xmas has always been tough for me.  Add to that this new dx and being right in the middle of chemo, with me ending up in the hospital twice out of the 3 treatments, just adds to my own special "holiday spirit".  The thing that is saving me this year is my upcoming wedding.  I love having lots of built-in excuses for not doing the traditional holiday stuff.  Sorry, I can't go to that party, I just had chemo and I can't be around crowds of people.  Sorry, I'd love to buy you a present, but I'm broke from the wedding.  Sorry, I can't cook that huge dinner, the smells from cooking make me nauseous.

I think part of the problem is the huge expectations for a wonderul family holiday, all those commercials you see on TV, like that Folger's commercial where the adult kid surprises his family by coming home for Christmas.  I'd just be pissed that he showed up without calling, and now I have even more to cook for dinner!  Ungrateful bastard!  (Can you tell I hate this stuff!)

    Merilee, I LOVE your pictures!

My son has a black t-shirt that says  "F--K CHRISTMAS"  all written out, though.  He wears it at least once to a family event, but now that the grandkids are getting older, he'll have to put it away.

Loved your post txstardust!  Gee, enough on your plate -- holidays, chemo and planning a wedding.  And congratulations!!  What a wonderful thing to look forward to, to help get you through your chemo days.

I usually gear up for the Holidays in the fall....Decorate every room, front yard, backyard. Porch. Lights everywhere. My family has given me a moving van worth of decorations over the last 25 years. I bake for two weeks, make candy and the boxes it goes in!... plan a party for 50 people and do all the cooking and send every family home with several dozen cookies and a box of candy and an ornament.

I was diagnosed stage 3 with positive nodes in April. This year I just wanted to get on a plane and go somewhere warm and come back when it was over. My family loves the way I fuss over the holidays. They would have understood if I did not do much...but I think they needed it. I am halfway through the decorating and will bake next week. No huge party but maybe a small one. I think it is about making memories, not greed. Rather than think it is hypocritical I think that if just for a short time, people are more generous and kind...well----great! Bitterness is caustic. Have some cocoa with a shot of Bailey's and a cookie and enjoy it...make some memories for yourself or those you care about.

Well, I had DS drag the fake tree in the house and was actually kinda in the mood  to decorate.   It was not very delightful to discover the lights are all broken on the thing.  Sorta took the wind out of my sails.  As of right now we have an undecorated tree in the living room.

My fake tree has lights on (they're built in) but I started to put decorations on it, but only put about 10 and then stopped. Oh well...

I hate the "make your list"  so I can get you this and you get me that!!...If I told them what I really wanted (co-pays) it might sound too self-centered, but that is what I really want!!!...So instead I ask for gas cards so I can use gas money for co-pays......

Merilee -- I love the cartoons -- keep them coming!  I've been sending them to friends.  Loved the reindeer bum and santa in therapy!

I financed a new one yesterday, but phooey - I don't need anymore debt right now.  Also discovered last night that the product key for my Microsoft Office mysteriously vanished out of the case.  Boy - I am really glad yesterday is over.  Frown
