Sue so good to see you here,  I follow you on FB but don't always post there either.  LOVE YOU DEAR SISTER,  your post had me stop and take a look at the calander and Tomorrow is my 1yr MX anniversay,  WOW how this year has flown by.  Judie a year ago tonight you blasted your computer W/Coke,   do you recall "MOUTH FULL" LOL.

You all are so special to me,  I love you all.

Brandt is doing awesome and may even come home later tonight or Saturday,  crazy how quick they get you in and out of hospitals these days,  he still has a very congestive cough,  but better according to the Dr's  -   WHO BELIEVES THEM!

I was reading back yesterday too, Sue.  I saw Amber's posts, and Karyll's too.  I wish we knew how Karyll is doing.

I'm looking forward to tonight.  Rhuel and I graduated from the same high school, a year apart, and there is a huge alumni homecoming get-together tonight at a tavern down the street from the school.  The place is expected to be packed!  I'll probably see people there who I haven't seen in 20 years or more.

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

We got about 6 inches total. I cleared 3 off my car after work on Thursday. Then once I got the kids in bed and sat down to relax, the power went out. So I was thinking no school, wrong!!!! I still had no power in the morning and had another 3 inches on my car to clean off, trees limbs down everywhere. Now would be a good time to visit my step mom in FL!!!!!!!

It is always hard to hear when someone dies from SFBC!!!

Glad to hear that everyone is doing good!!!

Too tired to write, but thought you might enjoy my poor bedraggled Schnauzer desperately in need of a haircut. Raining cats and dogs, errands to do (walking...no car) a closeout $5.00 rain jacket..

Hi ladies!  I have to vent a few things.

Karen, I hope your reunion last night turned out better than mine. We were having a similar thing as this is my class's 40th reunion. As I was standing in the bar talking with friends, my tipsy friend A. brought over a guy I didn't recognize, but who seemed to have latched on to her. She proceeded to introduce me as, "You remember Nancy D.? She had breast cancer and had  bilateral mastectomies."

My jaw dropped. It turned out the guy had just had an operation for throat cancer and that was her idea of "something in common." All she wanted to do was ditch him, really.

I turned and walked away. Maybe that was rude to the poor man, but I was so embarassed and furious at my friend that I couldn't do anything else.

When my friend asked, "Was that the wrong thing to say? Why, you tell everyone?" I tried to explain that when *I* tell someone, it's my choosing. There is a time and place, and in the right time and place I'm very willing to share my experience if it will help somebody. But last night was a social situation, and it wasn't helping anyone but HER (to shake the guy loose). The only people in that room last night who knew were good friends who I've personally told. It was not a topic for discussion at all...not relevant to the night's festivities.

Well, that set my mood for the rest of the night. I left @ 9pm and went home to find one of the front porch lights out. I should say, STILL out. It's been out for a few days and this was a little social experiment of mine to see if one of my brothers would change it. They come in much later than me most evenings and would have seen that the light was out. I'm usually home for the evening after I get in from work.

Anyway, it's a pain for me to change, but a cinch for the tall guys. But just like a lot of things around the house, unless I make a point of asking one of them to do it, and they don't have something else to do, they don't just pitch in and do things on their own.

So I dragged out the little step ladder, got a new bulb, and stepped up to change the light. Even with the step ladder I had to stretch to open the top of the fixture and undo the dead bulb. Just as I had almost unscrewed it I felt myself tipping over.  I went over the porch rail into the shrubs.

I threw out my hands and broke my fall, so I didn't hit the ground hard...and it's a pretty soft bed. But my face went right into a butterfly bush and broke several stems. I ended up with lots of facial scratches and a very deep tear in my cheek (five stitches).

Now I'm sore, swollen, discolored...and I'm skipping the big dinner tonight because I look like a cat who had half their whiskers shaved off.

    OK. Vent over.

Cathi, hope you and Ed have a hormone filled weekend.

Judie, I can't see the photos, either, but I'll check them out on Facebook.

Right now, I'm turning over for a second morning nap. I didn't get anything for pain from the emergency room, so my Tylenol PMs are kicking in (that was all I had in the house last night). I hope everyone's weekend turns out better than mine.

HOGSSSSSSSSSSSS Nancy,  I think your friend was wrong also for blurting out what she did,  ok so maybe she was tipsy,  but no excuse,  your right,  You tell who you want,  the way you want and when you want.  As far as the house and folks not pitching in I feel your pain,  while my "PAIN" has now left the nest - LOL I can relate.  You know whats weird though all the mess they made here ,  I expected after just a day or two their place would be trash  WRONG, have been over a couple times to drop some things off -  Ed and I are both AMAZED to say the least -  completely spotless,  clean as a whistle .

As far as the HORMONE FILLED WEEKEND -  YIPPIE- HORRAY -  but boy are we getting old,  LOL ,   I THINK I NEED A NAP Smile

Cathi , soooo glad Brandt is better. Poor little guy. I'm so glad its not the n1h1 , but boy what you have all been through! Heres wishing you and Ed an orgasmic night , Brandt a speedy recovery , and prayers for both your daughters. And cooler weather. xxxxx

Judie , I looked in the dictionary for adorable , and yes , there was Jasper! What a darling! Just when I thought I couldn't smile , there was Jasper! I love him!xxxx

Lisa , honey , I'm sorry you have been sick. And Tony too. The euphoria will turn into friendship and compasion for one another. Don't worry. Thats what is suppose to happen. You have heard on people being together for 50 yrs. and they say , he or she is my best friend. You'll still have wild crazy monkey love , but when you don't , you will just be glad to be with each other. And being sick makes everything feel yucky!

Sorry to hear your yard sale didn't do as well as you wanted. And remember, it is that time of year when , its cold , cloudy , and hibernation is calling us! We are all feeling it. Even Jane , who is coming unto spring! It is always a big change when seasons go to extremes. Hang in there. Feel better soon , and start planning what you and Tony are gonna be for Halloween!xxxx

Happy belated birthday Sheila! Hope it was your best ever! And hope you are having a great weekend.xxxx

Oh Nancy , I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. And am so sorry to hear about your insensitive friend. Boy , they just don't get it do they? But , like you said , she was trying to get rid of him. Poor you and poor him. I hope she wasn't a really close friend. That really sucks. And speaking of sucking , what the hell is wrong with your brothers!?!  I hope things get better for you. xxxx

Karen , I love your new avatar! Portia is such a sweetheart. And you my dear look fabulous! Try not to stress over the house. It will all work out. And don't worry to much about the liver ensymes. My ex had that test come back high , and when he didn't drink , it was fine. So I'm sure its just the wine you have been having. Love you Karen.xxxx

Hi SueSmile! Soooo good to see you here. I'm sorry  to here your not feeling well. And you work way to hard. I wish you could fine another job. What is your passion?Whatever it is , you are still young enough to give it a go. I hope David and Daniel and your DH are all fine. And I hope your dad is doing better too. Love you Sue.xxxx

To everyone else here , hope you are all having a good moment. God Bless you. Melody

Oh, Mel, you always bring such sunshine. Thank you.

Nancy, I can't believe what happened. You are so strong and caring. To get two major blows so close to each other is just not fair.

I am so sad about Amber.

It's 2am and I can't even remember what I just read. My brain is mush. I resigned from eBay. I just don't have the stamina to keep going. I'm a perfectionist. Sold $20,000 in three months with a perfect feedback score. But I had promised the guys on the Quadraphonic board my son was very active on that if we ever decided to sell the record collection, they would be given first dibs. I didn't think my DIL would sell them for a long time. Wrong!!! So I posted the database of the collection and am receiving a ton of interest. Tough thing is that all 17,000 items in the collection are in the music room at their house, mostly in boxes. I'm up now working on making a spreadsheet of all the records and cds I have to dig up tomorrow. My daughter and I are going there tomorrow (today). I'm too tired to keep it up. Got to go to bed.

It all earned me a very embarrasing trip to the ER. I wish I'd needed some stitches, Nancy. I've just been feeling crappy and having some chest and abdominal discomfort for a couple of weeks. When I walk Jasper, by the time I get home I am sweaty and huffing like I just ran a marathon. I usually have more stamina than that. Lots of other minor stuff that added up to my doc insisting that I get checked out. I know it's nothing and told her so. Now she knows it too. Wink She still wants a treadmill stress EKG. I thinks it's either stress or Aromasin. I'm doing better with it than either Arimidex or Femara and have been on it for months, so it seems odd to have severe side effects now. Who knows.

Why am I writing? I'm exhausted. When I'm this tired I ramble. Sorry. BTW, I made the best rhubarb syrup EVER today. I love it on pancakes.

    Goodnight, Gracie....Tongue out

Judie, what a chore! I feel for you. My son is working on a similar project, albeit film. A friend is closing his business of renting stock footage and selling most of it to a major collector, while some of it is going to the Academy and UCLA archives. But the guy has a warehouse full of stuff...more than he ever got around to properly cataloging. So that is what my son's been doing since August. They've found some real little gems. But what a job! I can't imagine trying to sell it off bit by bit.

I ended up staying home last night and missed the big reunion dinner. Oddly, I don't feel bad about it. There were a few people I would have liked to have seen but, heh, it's not a big deal. I would not have been comfortable. Other parts were starting to ache (like my shoulders and sides) from absorbing the fall. The only regret is that I worked on the committee, and the time spent now seems wasted.

Anyone have an interesting recipe for apples? I still have a huge amount from my apple picking last weekend. We've gone through apple pie, apple crisp, pork and apples, and I was going to make some apple sauce today. But that will still leave 1/3 a bushel. It can't be too involved...something I can make after work some evening or for dinner.

Mel!! So glad to see you!!! How have you been?  How is work going? How is your ex doing now?  I so miss seeing you here!!  Thanks for your support..and everyone for their input on Tony.  You guys are right...I know it's all just the weather, sickness and the distance too.  He is just trying to decide what to do...about looking for a job...here, there??? Sorry...I am not responding to all....I have to finish up here at work....before I leave.

((((((Nancy)))))) - what a time you've had. I'm so sorry to hear about your insensitive friend and the embarrassing incident she caused and your fall. Shame on those brothers of yours - do they feel any remorse and guilt over what happened? I want to knock their heads together!

Mel - it always does me good to read your posts. You really spread the milk of human kindness. How are things with you?

Judie - you have worked so hard - no wonder you are exhausted! I feel overwhelmed just reading about all your hard work. It sounds very stressful. I think you need to take some time out and look after yourself.

Lisa - good to hear from you and I hope Tony's his job situation works out soon and things can get more secure for you both and you can both concentrate on each other and spend more time together.

    Love to you all,

Bless have you made those recipes with any kind except Granny Smith's? I have Macintosh and Red Delicious. I think the Macs would be good substitutes, but I'm not sure. The coffee cake would be scrumptious next weekend!

Ah, end of the weekend and I have to decide if I will go in to work tomorrow with my puffy scratched face. If I take a day, I can get the stitches removed and not have to deal with black thread hanging off of my cheek.

Maybe I can go in early and sit at the back of the bus and pretend I'm asleep with a hat over my head, lol.

I have only made them with the granny's, but I love Mac's and think that either would really work.  The Mac's are a softer apple, so if you are using them in the sausage dish put them in at the end and don't cook them too long or they might dissolve.  But either should be good in the cake.  It is nice to have the tartness, but either would work.  Enjoy and please let me know if you do.

I'm so sorry that you have to deal with the aftermath of the fall.  May God bless you with angels to guide your steps and speed your healing.

I LOVE red cabbage and apples!!! Now I have to make some.

Here are two killer desserts. The cake is incredible and so easy.

    German Apple Cake

    2 cups sugar
    3 cups flour
    1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
    ½ teaspoon nutmeg
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
3 cups apples, unpeeled, diced. I like big chunks

    Mix the dry ingredients.
    Add apples (or rhubarb)

    Mix thoroughly then add:
    2 beaten eggs
    1 cup oil
    2 teaspoons vanilla

Mix well, pat into a Bundt pan

Bake at 325 for 45 minutes to 1 hour

    Ozark Pudding

    1/3 cup flour
    1-1/4 teaspoons baking powder
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    1 large egg
    3/4 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 cup shredded apple
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
    1 cup whipping cream

Grease and flour a glass pie dish or one quart casserole dish. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, beat egg well on medium speed of an electric mixer. Add sugar and beat until light and lemon-colored. Stir in vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Fold in apples and nuts. Pour into prepared baking dish and bake in center of oven 30 minutes or until just set. Top with whipped cream just before serving. It's best served warm. You can beat 1/4 cup dark rum in with the whipped cream if you like.

    Bake at 325 degrees F.

    Serves 4-6

Bless, when you copy and paste text formatted in your word processor, it comes out funky here. Try copying, pasting in Notepad, which strips formatting, copy, paste here. There may be a simpler way but I haven't found it.

I must be a weirdo.  My mom is German and is an excellent cook.  Everyone in our family loves her red cabbage (yes, she makes it with apples and red wine).  Everyone except me, that is.  I've just never liked it.

Nancy, those brothers of yours anger me to no end!  I'm so sorry that you fell and injured yourself.  At least you weren't more seriously hurt, thank goodness.  And that friend of yours is very thoughtless and insensitive!  She had no right to blurt that information out to him!  People just don't think sometimes!  ((((((Nancy))))))

Mel, you always know just what to say to make people feel better!  What a treasure you are!  Thank you.

Judie, please take it easy and get more rest!  I'm glad your doc made you go get things checked out, even though you knew in your gut that you were okay.  Those pictures of Jasper are the absolute cutest!  What a face!!  I love him!

Well, my alumni get-together really was a lot of fun.  I saw people who I haven't seen in 27 years!  I was amazed by how horrible some people looked!  I think I look my age, but honestly, some of these people looked 10 or more years older than they really are!  I feel a little better about myself now!  LOL!!  It was kind of nice that all the old cliques don't exist anymore.  Everyone was talking to everyone.  I loved it!

Well, I'd better get to bed.  Love you all!

    Hugs,

    Karen

Thought I'd pop in to give you some tech help.

When this forum had a major design change, they adopted the thing called WYSIWYG editor for you to post. WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get" which explains why it comes out funky when you copy and paste things because as "What You See Is What You Get" says it all, it tries to paste things just the way they are such as the font size, font face, table format etc, not just text. So if you only want to paste text, copy it first the way you always do and then click on the button which looks like a tiny bag with a letter "T" on the top of the post area where you type in the message. If you move your cursor over that button, you will see it say "Paste as Plain Text" and that's exactly what you want to do.

    Hope this helps.

    Hugs,

    Fumi
