I think it just needs to be clarified that no one is against a helping hand, a leg up .. what people are against is abuse, laziness and fraud. Many with mental and physical disabilities need our help forever ... but even they work, many of them, they go to stores as a group with a team leader and do cleaning work or washing cars. My friend's adult son is blind, deaf and unable to speak (grunts) and mentally handicapped (she had German measles while pg) and he goes to mini-marts with his team and they clean. His adult care is provided, he earns a $1 a week and she goes to work full-time. Even though he can't see, he has his routine, you should see how discombobulated he gets when the time changes!!!!!!!!!!
-
This kind of stuff just PI$$ES me off!!!!!!!
My oldest brother was born mentally retarded. At 2 the Drs. told my mother to put him in the state home but my mother refused. She raised all of us 8 kids and taught us to take care of our selves and each other. She worked 3 jobs(i still remember waking up at night and smelling the starch from the ironing she took in). My father worked 2 jobs and did most of the cooking in our house. When my brother was in ninth grade the public school told my parents my brother had learned all he was ever going to learn so my parents sent him to a trade school. He worked at the same job for 25 years and lived on his own. He never was able to drive. He rode a bike everywhere he went. In 1998 he was hit by a drunk driver and left on the side of the road for dead. He had brain damage almost every bone in his body was broken. He survived and is now able to ride his bike again. He is on SSI and picks up cans to supplement. And still doesn't ask for a handout. He lives with my brother and everyone is our small town looks out for him.
My parents never excepted Welfare!!!! Although they could have gotten disability for my brother. They worked their asses off and never complained about it. And raised us to do the same thing.
I am sick of these people who have never worked a day in their lives or who think they should get something for nothing.
I say help those who have tried to help them selves and tell the others McDonalds is always hiring!!!!!
Sorry ladies just had to vent.
-
Vivre, that was hilarious. I thought it was Shokk because we KNOW Shokk got drunk on the Blue Koolaid for a while. Ellen is funny!
-
Hi, Vivre. I'm here. You ladies are chatters. I'm on page 268.
Wasn't it Boenher (sp) who threw down the 1100 pages of crap? I love him too. And Coburn...well...he's a cutie pie. We have such smart guys and gals in the Repulican party (except for the three traitors..course they really aren't republicans). Glad the dems have Rangel, Barney, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

ROFLMAO............................Shokk, you should call Ellen. You could go on her show and do comedy your routine. "Cept I think Ellen is a dem.
-
bkc, what an inspiring story. Thanks for sharing.
-
Sherri, not trying to start an argument..LOL But in the video clip Vivre posted it was Representative Boehner who threw down the papers.
Senator Coburn may have also done it in the Senate. I loved when Lindsey Graham went after Barbara Boxer. Graham was ANGRY to say the least.
-
Obama was part of the problem. Supposedly he was a Senator. No one is complaining about the first 6 years of Bush's administration. This all began when the Dems got control. Slowly but surely it went to hell. So they can blame away but without the Dems voting nothing could have happened. They ran the committees, looked the other way, what have you. They should be looking at themselves.
-
The rehab of the Mall may have been struck from the bill, but the 400 million for STD was put back in. Absolutely stimulating.
I'm a horrible mom. My girls had to buy their on birth control stuff. They had a boyfriend...they shared the cost. I wasn't going to give my children the GREEN LIGHT to have sex. They understood and they took the responsibility for their own bodies.
-
The Goofy student! Weird.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO3kHC61I88&feature=related WTH? He's a student! This guy must be on drugs..LSD! Communications? LMAO!
-
Shirley,
We were terrified of my Mother. That was enough birth control for me!!!! And she never would have dreamed of abusing us.
-
I am happy to say they all turned out to be fine young women. Two are married and one is in a serious relationship. And one of them has given me two sweet grandchildren.
Things have changed a lot from when I was growing up.
-
Were is the 1100 page bill we we can start reading it. However, I doubt many of us would understand it. I'll do a google and find it.
-
Shirley,
That's great. I have Two grown step - children with three wonderful grandchildren. An eighteen year old son that I pray every day remembers what I THINK I taught him and two little girls who are five and four. I think we give them all we can and then they have to figure it out on thier own.
In my book you must have been a pretty good Mom. And my hats off to you.
-
Well, thank you, bkc. I'm sure you are a great mom too. I wasn't perfect..who is. So far my girls think I did okay...LOL And the best thing of all...I love them..they love me..I respect them..they respect me...AND THE HARDEST PART is to respect their OWN opinions and MY opinions which means we agree to disagree on some issues.
Wow, two little ones. My granddaughter turned six in December. My grandson is 3 1/2. And after having all girls (three), having a grandson is wonderful! In fact, being a grandmom is GREAT! Someone said they wished they could have been a grandmom before a mom..LOL I'll be seeing them the last weekend this month. That means it's time to get groceries they like and a good excuse to clean.
-
I love the Grand Kids to. Get to love them and enjoy them and send them home at the end of the day! I may have to get some tips from you on these girls though. My son was almost grown when SURPRISE!!!!! And then SURPRISE!!!!!!!
-
Shirley - that student is SICKO!!! I think both he and Harriett or whatever her name is (the homeless woman) were plants to keep up the "Messiah" image. I think that is why he is out "campaigning". He is like a cult leader - he has to keep going out and "mesmerizing" people or the kool-aid might start to wear off. I think they have found it is not quite as effective coming from his creepy press secretary.
I was listening to James T. Harris on the radio today while driving my son home from his bball game. He mentioned these two and how one was getting a house and apparently SICKO student was getting a job. James is the guy who got up at McCain's town hall meeting here in Milwaukee and asked McCain to go after Obama. He said he should have asked McCain for a million dollars.
Welcome bkc. Your brother's story is inspiring. I know the grocery store where I shop hires people with disabilities to bag groceries. They are so friendly and helpful - always smiling and so conscientious about their job - never have broken eggs!

Oopsie doodle ....... another Illinois politician may be in trouble for perjury!!!!!!!
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Raising fresh questions about his appointment to Congress, Sen. Roland Burris admitted in a document released Saturday that former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's brother asked him for campaign fundraising help before the governor named Burris as Illinois' junior senator.
The disclosure reflects a major omission from Burris' testimony in January when an Illinois House impeachment committee specifically asked if he had ever spoken to Robert Blagojevich or other aides to the now-deposed governor about the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama.
State Rep. Jim Durkin, the impeachment committee's ranking Republican, told The Associated Press that he and House Republican Leader Tom Cross will ask Sunday for an outside investigation into whether Burris perjured himself.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada also said he was reviewing the disclosure, the latest twist for Senate Democrats in Washington who only consented to seat Burris on the condition that there were no "pay to play" promises exchanged in the appointment.
Burris said he voluntarily gave the committee a Feb. 4 affidavit disclosing the contact with Robert Blagojevich because "there were several facts that I was not given the opportunity to make during my testimony to the impeachment committee."
The affidavit, released by Burris' office after it was first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, said Robert Blagojevich called him three times - once in October and twice after the November election - to seek his fundraising assistance.
Robert Blagojevich's attorney said his client believes one of the conversations was recorded by the FBI.
Burris, a Democrat like the former governor, said he told Robert Blagojevich he would not raise money because it would look like he was trying to win favor from the governor for his appointment. But he said he did ask the governor's brother "what was going on with the selection of a successor" to Obama in the Senate and "he said he had heard my name mentioned in the discussions."
It's the second time Burris has changed his story. In an unsolicited affidavit to the impeachment committee on Jan. 6, Burris said he had only one limited conversation with the governor before accepting the Senate appointment.
Then, appearing before the committee Jan. 8, he said he told former Blagojevich aide-turned-lobbyist Lon Monk last summer that he was interested in the post.
The governor appointed Burris, a former state attorney general, to the Senate seat on Dec. 30, three weeks after federal agents arrested Blagojevich on a complaint alleging he had tried to trade the appointment for campaign cash or a high-paying job. The state House impeached Blagojevich and the state Senate removed him from office on Jan. 29.
Reid and Dick Durbin of Illinois, among other Senate Democrats, initially said they would not seat anyone appointed by Blagojevich but eventually relented after accepting Burris' impeachment committee testimony under oath that there were no promises exchanged for his appointment.
A spokesman for Durbin said the senator was overseas and had not seen the affidavit or compared it to the testimony. The White House had no comment.
State House impeachment committee chairwoman Barbara Flynn Currie, a Democrat, said she saw the affidavit earlier this week but did not have time to share it with all committee members until now. She said she was planning committee action but that seeking an outside investigation was premature at this point.
The affidavit discloses for the first time that Burris believes he likely told former Blagojevich advisers Doug Scofield and John Wyma of his interest in the post at a fundraiser in June and later asked about it when he spoke to Blagojevich chief of staff John Harris, who was arrested with Blagojevich on Dec. 9.
Scofield, Wyma and Harris were among the Blagojevich associates Burris was asked about in his Jan. 8 testimony by Durkin.
In response, Burris said he had spoken only to Monk.
"This wasn't a couple of questions that I can understand someone may forget, it goes way beyond that," Durkin said Saturday. "To say that he wasn't given the opportunity to explain himself is a load of B.S."
Durkin said he doesn't trust majority Democrats in the General Assembly to conduct a fair investigation into whether Burris perjured himself. But he said he doesn't know yet who should conduct the inquiry.
A log of Harris' calls released to the AP by the governor's office indicates Burris called Harris four times in November - the last time on Nov. 26, when the log indicates the two spoke. Burris' affidavit says he had called Harris to recommend his nephew for a state job and during the conversation asked about the Senate seat.
A spokeswoman for Burris said he would not make himself available for interviews Saturday.
Robert Blagojevich's lawyer, Michael Ettinger, said his client contacted Burris in October to ask him to host a fundraiser for his brother because Burris had contributed in the past, but Burris said he didn't want to commit before the election. Ettinger said the subject of the Senate seat wasn't raised.
Ettinger said Robert Blagojevich remembers only one other conversation in November from the governor's campaign office, which the FBI had wiretapped at the time. He said his client confirmed Burris' account that he declined the fundraiser because of the potential conflict.
But he also told Ettinger no one on his brother's staff had ever mentioned Burris as being interested in the seat.
A publicist for the former governor released a statement saying Blagojevich "acted ethically and honestly and believes Sen. Burris did too."
In explaining his incomplete testimony, Burris said in the affidavit he recalled mentioning Monk "but was then asked another question and did not mention anyone else."
His lawyer, Timothy Wright III, said in a cover letter Burris answered "truthfully and to the best of his recollection," but that the "fluid nature" of the questioning and a review of the transcript showed Burris that he "was unable to fully respond to several matters."

Since BO is so concerned about the homeless...he should adopt a rescued dog instead of a Westwinster contestant.
And...I don't get the big hype over the Vogue Mag cover. Geeshhhhhhhhhhhh...what's next?...BO on the cover of GQ. Cripe...
Rock - It will be interesting to see if an "outside investigation" is conducted. Only in Illinois! Help me!
-
Ok first of all me wanting to marry Dr. Coburn is not the same thing as some women wanting to have relationships with Obama.........two completely different things..........not at all the same.........as different as night and day............and I don't remember "those women" saying they wanted to "marry" Obama just that they wanted to do "it" with Obama............I said I wanted to MARRY Dr. Coburn and then we would move to a boathouse...........see the difference.........marriage first then will you know second...........and third and forth......well you get the idea..........I may be willing to be a second wife but not the slutty girlfriend..........I ain't no Monica Loweski..........so there........Shokk

-
Rock,
Stalking is bad HOW? The only way I am stalking Estepp is if her dh is 5'2 and is either under 110 lbs or over 300 lbs. I found out the hard way that Moody's dh is a BIG body builder, LauraGTO's dh is a bad a$$ fearless race car driver, and you Rock live too far away.
-
Blago corrupted everyone in Chicago. Should we hold Burris culpable because Blago called him for campaign donations and a quid quo pro? Sure, he should have come forward but that would have put him in a bad light had he done so.
I don't know much about Burris but up till getting a phone call from the Blago brothers he led a clean career, no? Why should he be tainted by the trash running around in Chicago? Unless he deserves it. I really don't know his history.
-
Okay, I'm a party pooper. $13 more a week in my paycheck will be a big deal for me. It's more of a raise than my current employer has given in years and this year we have already been told there will be no raises across the board. How sad is that? I'm in a poor state so I'll take what I can get.
-
No your not a party pooper. What they could have done was to reward people who go to work with a higher amount of incentives by decreasing their payroll taxes. Instead they upped welfare benefits. They make me sick.
They had such a good opportunity to do this thing right and they blew it.
-
Rosemary - Yes, as far as we know, up until now, Burris has had a clean record. He seems genuine enough. The problem is however, that he changed his testimony by way of an affidavit a month after his testimony. It's possible - that if he did have questionable conversations, they may have been picked up on the FBI tapes... this could clear him or convict him. As always... it will be interesting.
I agree with more incentives for the working instead of increases for the lazy butts. Those increases ARE NOT going to make them want to work, nor are they going to rise them out of poverty.
-----------------------
I was wrong... I read that the B's are looking at shelters for the White House dog. dh and I recently researched rescue shelters for a puppy...OMG I was shocked at what I saw. I'm not saying that EVERYONE should go that route, but it would be quite hypocritical if BO didn't go that route. JMO

Mr. Spouse - LOL!
Rock - Shame on Peggy! - "someone" I know uses this as an avatar at an undisclosed discussion forum!
