    I'm searching for wig styles - is yours blonde?  Anyway, (thankfully my insurance will reimburse the "cranial prothesis) would you mind sending a picture of yours via my PM? Even if it is brunette - it sounds adorable.

    Re: Wigs, ebay has wigs for like 50.00.  Search using "wig for chemo" if you have trouble let me know and I will help you find them.

    Hi Robyn -

    In our lovely Little Village by the Sea, we have this place called "Olive's Wig Ship" where Olive (who has been there for an eternity) personally measures your head and she has a great selection of synthetic wigs.  So when the time comes, my hairdresser will accompany me and we will select a couple of wigs. Perhaps three.  I do enjoy being an actress (did some acting at a local theater years ago) and also did some runway modeling in my late and unlamented youth - so I think it will be fun to experiment with different identities and images!

    Just TRYING to keep a positive spin on it!

    Xena (and yes, I am exploring getting a Xena wig and wearing my black leather pants to my chemo treatments!)

    Good for you Britt!!!  Battle on!!!  I was in theater when I was in college.  Hopefully I will be able to find the time to get in to it again once this rediculousness is over!

    Yes, we have a local theater group in town - and I always enjoy being involved with it.  Want to do so again - something to look forward to when this Ordeal is over -

    Have you read the book "Cancer Vixen?"  Great book.  True story.  I ordered it from Amazon. I highly recommend it to all.

    Just found this thread.  Ditto to what everybody else said. 

    Maybe we can get that National Society make us cancer voodoo dolls to vent our anger on.  When I went to the "Look Good, Feel Better" classes,  the Cancer Society place it was held at gave us each little "port pillows" to use when we drive.  They were made by local girl scouts.  They were useless, but probably made the girl scouts feel better.  Personally, I'd rather have a voodoo doll.

    SO typical of the National Society!  I would so much rather have a voodoo doll.  BTW, how would you describe the "Look Good, Feel Better" classes? Worthwhile?  Or a waste of time?

    I went to mine fairly early in my diagnosis, but after I was already bald.  I thought it was worth it, although most days I just don't have the energy or vanity to take the time to put on all of the free make up they gave me.  Although I should since I look like crap.  It's amazing the difference before and now.  At this point, if people don't want to look at me without my wig, then don't come over.  I wore the wig almost all the time at first, but now I only wear it at work or for special occasions.  It is a nice wig, though.

    Hi, Jane -

    That's good to know.  I am a skincare and cosmetic products junkie and I would be curious to see the "before" and "afters" - but I think I know what you mean.  From what I read about chemo, I can't imagine having to energy to do a full makeup thing every day - but I think the wigs are fun.

    We shall see.  Too early for me to make any judgments at this point!  But I think I will check out the class when I am ready.

    Hi All--

    I found LGFB to be worthwhile, although I was VERY skeptical going in. At least in my location (Canada), the volunteers were knowledgable and really has a sense ofr what chemo/rads can do to the skin and ways of dealing with it. The wigs/scarves/hat part was kind of fun, but I was the model--might not have been as much fun to watch someone else get to try the styles and wigs lol.

    And the box of goodies was definitely worthwhile, even if not all the colours etc. were what I would have chosen--they were all fullsize, not samples or knock-offs--really helpful good stuff.

    Of course, it might be different at different locations and in the US..

    I don't have a LGFB close enough to me to go to that will fit in with my schedule and very limited energy.  I only wear my wig when I leave the house or if someone comes over.  I either wear a turbin (only to keep warm because they are NOT flattering) at night or during the day I wear a scarf with a filler underneath with velcro bangs attatched.  I so look better that way. 

    My friends think the idea of velcro bangs is HYSTERICAL!  My BFF wants to get me some of those plastic gloves with the fake fingernails and jewelry glued on to match!

    Speaking of voodoo dolls, People (at least in my life) seem to lack a sence of humor about religous stuff.  Right about when everyone was putting me on their prayer lists (which I GREATLY appreciate) I said I wanted help WHERE EVER I could get it and asked if anyone knew any Hatians or Dominicans who knew Voodoo.  You would not beleive the people who were really mad that I said that!!!!!!!!!!!

    Robyn,  You are a hoot!   I love the voodoo idea...I know a cople of Haitians if you need a doll!.....LOL.....And the velcro bangs are a gret idea!...I have a friend who did the same thing and also wore a hat with bangs and a pony tail........Hugs love and prayers to you!...........Lucy

    Ok, here's something that I need to rant about:  I had an MRI guided biopsy on New Year's Eve.  During one of the biopsies, they busted a vein (or so they told me) - it took 45 minutes for them to staunch the bleeding afterwards. I was then wrapped with an Ace bandage over a sterile dressing.  Returned the following Friday to have them remove the dressings and examine the wound.  Said it was healing very well but to take it easy.

    Happily, though, the results were negative.

    Well, each day it oozes a little bit of blood.  I had an appt with my BS today to decide on a lumpectomy with SNB for my surgery on 1/16.  She knew what happened with the biopsies (which were conducted at a radiology center).  She examined the breast (which is luckily NOT the one that is being operated on!) said it was not infected - BUT told me they really busted an artery - and NOT a vein!  "That's why they wrapped you with the Ace bandage."  I asked her why they didn't tell me the truth.  She was rather angry about it herself and said that perhaps they didn't want me to panic.

    Of course, I am absolutely livid. Thanks for allowing me to vent!

    Britt!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Freakin Grief!!!!!!!!!!  That's tops mine altogether.  They stuck me in the MRI machine, and it never occurred to anybody that my expander had a magnetic clip on the fill-in end, so the Doc could find the place really well.  So, I'm in the MRI machine, it starts screaming and moaning, lets off a few really loud high beeps, and I get spit out.  

    The techs come in looking all scared, and said I had metal in there somewhere, and now I'm in a huge magnetic field, and I could end up being thrown off the table into the wall.  The told me not to even bllink!!!  "Don't move your head!  We will get you out of here . . ."  My father was dying,

    The week before, a woman was thrown across the room into her wheelchair, cause she had metal in there somewhere, and didn't know it .. . like me.

    Bee!!!!!!!  I disagree - I think we are even with our MRI experiences!!!!!  That is REALLY scary - being catapulted through space at the speed of light right into the wall!!!!  Aren't the techs supposed to CHECK on one's MEDICAL HISTORY before they put us unsuspecting trusting souls into the bowels of that monstrous machine!?!?!?!!? 

    Perhaps our MRI techs were "educated" at the same facility?  "The MRI Tech School for the Sadistically Incompetent" or some such hallowed halls of academe?

    I wonder what happened to the woman who was thrown across the room into her wheelchair?  Was she seriously injured?  I also wonder how many of us have had similar MRI experiences?

    Ok, I am ranting about this damn drain tube - I was really hoping it would be out by today, but my fluid levels are not cooperating.  So my husband made me stay in bed all day, so far so good and I am hoping the doc will truly meet up with me on the weekend to yank the little suckers out.

    I hear ya on the drain.  I was supposed to have mine pulled Friday but no suck luck.  (Mastectomy was Tues.) I have an appt for Mon but who knows... I'm still putting out tons.  And... I need to go back to work Monday.  <sigh>

    love this thread!!!and so nice to hear I'm not the only one who can't stand repsonding to every email/phone call from the well-meaning. In the early days I was exhausted talking to everyone, telling them "the story." Now I do a periodic email to a list of people, to keep them updated - and a certain number call me, even when my email has said how tired/sick/introverted I feel. the only people I talk to are my radiation mates and my one breast-cancer survivor friend.

     here's to a good 2009!

    Lets make a list of the most messed up pink breast cancer awareness logo merch you have seen, AND something SO messed up you may actually buy it!

    The most messed up pink ribbon thing I have seen is a TIRE CHANGING KIT but I think I might actually BUY a pink ribbon TOILET PLUNGER!

    The most messed up thing I saw was on e-bay.  It is a keychain size urn to put cremation ashes in.  My son gave me some really nice pink bc gloves, though.

    I think the pink ribbon wite-out was pretty bad...And the daily calendar. I don't want that pink thing in my face very FREAKING day....Although the pink ribbon soap my mom put in her guest room last time I was there felt kinda grim. When the soap's gone, will I be gone or will BC be gone?

    No kidding.  I just hate all of it.  I don't even think I could buy a toilet plunger because even though I have a great appreciation for all things tacky-I just look at that pink ribbon and get so angry.

    Oh and are we coming up on another pink ribbon holliday?  Because I am noticing a lot of ads for BC walks  lately.  Maybe I do have a bad attitude because I just couldn't do a walk and be all happy with the pink t-shirts and balloons and let me just say if ANYONE EVER gives my kids MY MOMMY IS A CANCER SURVIVOR T-shirt I will NEVER speak to them AGAIN!!

    Absolutely!  I think BOTH sound like a good idea!  Boston in the summer or Fall and Vero Beach in the winter!!!!! 

    How about a pink pooper scooper with matching baggies- if no one has invented that one I will be surprized!
