abba, as I've posted, I'm a Clarins girl~~~I will get the Double Extend next facial! I just finished my old tube, and am trying do same with the odds and ends of other brands!
Welcome back, Beth! Did Paloma find you?

-
we had the tail end of one tropical storm, and then Paloma, but we were only getting hit with the outer band of rain. We only had one day of sun the entire trip.
I did get to read a wonderful book, and I'm very excited to buy other books from the same author. Can we talk Lipstick? Do you guys use lipstick, gloss, chapstick-- what brands, colors etc. How do you feel about a RED lip?
-
Hey, girls. See some familiar names here. Tina, I got two kinds of Rimmel mascara on sale here, too. LOVE it. Love the comb-like brush that comes with it.
I tend to use lipstick these days. Mostly, I seem to use L'Oreal Color Rich lipstick. Like the way it feels, lots of moisture in it, great colors & it's often on sale at the local CVS. I look good in autumn colors, so I can do the whole spectrum of rosey pinks through plum through red-red & russet. One of my favorite colors, though, is L'Oreal "sugar plum" #274, which is a lightly frosty rose that is about the exact color of my lips anyway, so I can use it for everyday & I don't need a mirror to touch it up because it matches so well.
-
Beth - sorry about your lack of sun, but I am sure you had fun otherwise. What book did you read?
Lipstick. What do you guys think of these lips below (they are gorgeous); the model has on Tarte lipgloss - has anyone used it? I want to order some, but not if it's too sticky. I usually stick with pink, but I do wear red at times. That woman on 60 minutes wears red (the blonde) and she always looks so put together and beautiful.

tiny tarte we've got 'ere ain't we -
The lipgloss is called Tarte Vitamin Infused Lipgloss in Apple-a-Day.
-
Maybe it's cause her lips are so big that I feel blinded by florescent pink lipgloss... It's a little too cotton candy for me. I do love pink lips though. Everything I wear is a colored gloss. I haven't purchased a tube of lipstick since high school. I really want to try one, but I'm not sure which brand to buy.
-
I have used MAC pro longwear--all day color on one end and clear or frosted gloss on the other. It really lasts and is NOT too drying, oh and lipliner. Makes the lips look larger.
In the winter, tho, I go back to just lipliner and lipstick. :Olay used to make a great one, but no longer available here, if anywhere.
If you like just tint, light color, L'Occitane makes a terriffic colored shea butter. Lucious stuff and barely there, but good for your lips.
-
Yes, Beth, what are you reading? What are your faves, if it isn't too out of line for a makeup thread???
I love red lipstick but cannot wear it, myself. My lips are not big enough and dark makes them look thinner and older. LOVE to see it on someone who can wear it, though.
I have read that one shouldn't wear lip color that is more than two shades darker than their lips. The problem, though, is how do you figure out what is two shades? Is there a shade scale or does a simple art-class grey scale work?
My lip color of choice lately is Smashbox's O-Gloss. It comes in a squeezey tube and in clear but turns what is supposed to be an ideal color on everyone. I can vouch for the facts that it looks perfectly natural on me while giving me a bit more color (maybe one shade?) while it is very glossy and moisturizing. I find that on those days when I try using a regular lipstick my lips tend to get dry-ish. Right now the tubes in my makeup drawer are from Estee Lauder, Clinique and Lancome. Maybe I should try one of the ones you ladies are using.
Raye, I use Tarte's Cheek Stain and love it better than anything. It does look very dark in the tube and is tacky if you do more than dab it on with a makeup sponge, but if done right it feels perfectly natural and lasts all day, no kidding, no matter what, until you wash it off at night. Maybe their lipgloss has similar properties.
Other than the above, I like Burt's Bees colored chapstick in Watermelon. I don't remember the actual name of the product at the moment. Little yellow tubes.
-
I don't go for color on my lips but love Blistex complete moisture lip protection. when I am having one of my 'power surges' my cheeks turn bright red (check out my avitar - that is not blush) and I don't want to add any additional color to my cheeks.

I need to have some suggestions for decadron-stain. It's a flush (and it's nearly constant) but it isn't a topical irritation, or a flash from heat (internal or otherwise). I'm right now going with City Block from Clinique, as it's a physical barrier sunblock. But it's not too effective after my mid-day dose of decadron. I don't want to have ghost-face but would like some help. It's not what the Aveeno folks make for sensitive skin, because mine is pharmaceutically derived. Ideas?
Lisa
-
Lisa, I use AquaSmooth by CoverGirl. It will give you as much or as little coverage as you need. I don't know if it's appropriate for you, but I keep going back to it! You won['t need concealer either.
-
This isn't for coverage, but to help neutralize a red flush, try using a green tinted base or moisturizer. I think PhotoFinish comes in a green tint. There are probably other products out there with a tint.
Hey, you might even consider a tiny drop of green food coloring in a puddle of your moisturizer or usual makeup or cover-up.
-
Ah, I do recall green as a tinted moisturizer base - thanks, Tina for helping me. I'll go see if I can find some PhotoFinish. And as that's a base, I might just pick up some AquaSmooth. I do not think I've ever seen that product. But if it's sheer, I'd like it!

Lisa- green is the way to go... look at the physicians formula, or hit the Benefits counter in Macy's for some products. Is the red mostly in your cheeks or is it your entire face?
Tina- I think I will try that smash box stuff- sounds like something I would like. I recently got the lip plumper clear gloss from Rimmel. I don't think it does any plumping really, but I love the smell, taste and the look of a thick gloss without feeling like I have a glop of crap on my lips.
The book that I loved was a really quick read called Second Chance by Jane Green, and I cannot wait to get her other books. I am about to start reading Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. Both kind of girlie books about a strong female character and her various relationships, job issues etc.... Second chances I can totally see being a movie with hugh grant and renee zellweger...
-
I don't normally read this but something caught my eye. Smashbox cosmetics are wonderful. They are expensive but soooo woth it.
I use their under eye stuff to take away my dark circles and use a powder call halo to cover my face. You almost don't even need to use blush after that if you don't want to. It really evens out all the color on your face.
I purchased a "try me" kit of their products on QVC and found out how nice they are. I never used to spend much on make up until I realized that you really do look alot nicer with the right stuff. so anyone wanting to try smashbox go search them on QVC and look for the kits that say "try me". They are an assortment of products for you to try and they are very inexpesive to find out if you like their stuff or not.

I LOVE the ogloss!!
I use Shu uemera 165 and 134 for reds - they are pretty
And I have about 200 other colors I use
Trish McEvoy ginger something is really pretty
I don't use Rimmel mascara..I use Dior Blackout
Miss you guys!!!
-
Tina - thanks for the Tarte info. I put the lip gloss on my list for Christmas, as well as this purple mascara called BADgal Plum mascara.
Yes, the Photofinish does come in a green tint, Lisa.
Hi Emelee - missed you.
Jane Green - great easy, chick lit reads - my faves of her's are Jemima J, Bookends and Straight Talking. If you like Jane Green, you'd probably like Jennifer Weiner as well. Sorry to hijack, back to make up...
Raye
-
Marisa- I've always been told that the DIOR mascara is worth trying... tell me more about the one you use. Hows the little one? Latest pics please.
Raye- now I'm pumped to go buy all of those books. Although reading in my bed listening to the rain outside, vs reading in a hammock in Jamaica with the ocean waves crashing on the rocks below me, just doesn't feel the same.
I actually just read a great newsletter about the Look Good Feel Better program... they just riased 2.4 million dollars at a fundraiser. I didn't even know they had their own web site www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org

About the dry lips: DUMP LANCOME! and CARMEX!!!!!!!!!!!
They both contain something to exfoliate the lips and you wind up addicted to them! Just told a good friend about this and gave her some tinted L"Occtain shea butter. She is thrilled after just a few days and has booted out her Lancome and Carmex.
Oh, and I had a tube of what I thought was colorless moisture from Avon----turned out to be a lip plumper---my lips were feeling awful, thought I was dehydrated and they were almost painful. when will I learn to read labels!
-
I wrote a piece in college about the addiction to carmex and affrin. (I went to a music conservatory, and people were hooked on both of these damaging products) I will never use either.
Someone mentioned the burts bees tinted chapstick earlier-- I love it.
-
Went to CVS and finally bought some of that Sebastian Super Duper hairspray. Yes, it works great and doesn't leave a sticky feeling.
Also looked for the Nair Salon Formula wax but they didn't have it so bought another brand that is microwaveable and sounded similar. Have not used it yet but have been contemplating my navel (and below) screwing up my courage. Will report back when the deed is done!
Picked up my new glasses yesterday and am not sure that I like them. Oh, well, at least they are a change. Quite a bit edgier than the others, which I will continue to wear, too. The new ones have a half-frame around the lenses, metallic light purple, and the sides are the same color purple in plastic with a super-imposed red stripe! I know that sounds awful but the color is really very pretty. Anyway, the color is good on me, so I guess that counts as make-up.
-
ooo, like the new spects.
Actually my first time here- have a question maybe you ladies can help with. I am ready to feel girlie and am slowly working thru closet to replace all the clothes that do not fit anymore (which is most). Need lots of help in the makeup dept. These days I feel quite pale and am trying to get some color without heavy coverage. Before bc I was a sweater and now that I am on Lupron and Femara- I sweat most of the time. If I use foundations or tinted moisturizes it seems to encourage sweating and makeup runs down my face. I do use basic eyeshadow, liner & mascara and I really like the idea of lipstick but still trying to find a good color. Any suggestions?
Thanks
-
Hi, EWB, you belong over on the Fashion Thread, too!
We were just talking about lip color. Read a few posts back for some suggestions. I love the Smashbox O-Gloss, which is clear but turns your own, special pink/rose, depending upon your body chemistry. Very natural looking.
Boy, you must sweat a lot for tinted moisturizer to run down your face.
Are you using oil-free products? Maybe you need to stick to powdered blush for a little color, instead of foundation. I'm sure others here will have more suggestions.
Welcome aboard!
-
Tarte Stain wouldn't run if you got caught in a downpour, IMO. Clinique used to have a Cheek Gel stain, too - and that rocked. Removed it from their product line for some reason. The Tarte is oil-free, water based.
Lisa

True about the Tarte Cheekstain. I use it and you have to actually wash it off with soap and water or cleanser. Does not budge all day.

Any fragrance addicts here? I am -- it always fits, no matter how much you gain!
went to an art/craft fair. you know those hand made wooden pens? My dh loves his, each one is so different.
Wellllllll, found a crafts person who makes not only pens and such, but a portable fragrance pen!!! Just hold the tip in the fragrance and it is soaked up a felt type tip into a plastic enclosed wick. The top screws on, so no drips or evaporation. Lasts a couple of months and you can clean it for a new scent! they had all sorts of different woods and I chose one that had been done in about 9 different woods----in circles up the pen. Just beautiful and I cannot imagine how much work went into it.
It was one of those things you get with your "mad money" so dh won't know how much you spent!!! LOL
-
I'm very particular about my fragrance. I like more musty, spicy smells. My two favorites are Black Orchid by Tom Ford, and Euphoria by Calvin Klein.
-
EWB - I use the Dual Finish power by Lancome. Covers nicely w/o being too heavy - use a makeup brush for a lighter finish. I have somewhat oily skin and I use it throughout the day so as not to be too shiny (although I don't like to be too too matte). I gave up foundation a couple of years ago, as it started to emphasize the wrinkles.
Funny you guys talking about Carmex. I had never heard about the stuff until I went into the gas station today for my two sodas. I needed some $1.79 Chapstick and voila, there is the Carmex. What is that stuff?
Fragrances: I use either Lancome Hypnose or Calvin Klein's Euphoria, although I did get a sample of Thierry Mugler's scent Angel in my Sephora catalog - ooh delightful. Until I checked the price! WHOA mama.
Tina - I love love love your new frames. Very cool and edgy indeed.

Fragrance? About the only "modern" scent I can wear is Clinique's Aromatics. Everything else I have tested or smelled in a magazine gives me a huge headache immediately. I am obviously sensitive to something they are using as an ingredient. It's funny, because I never have that reaction to any of the "old" perfumes like Arpege, Chanel, Joy, yadda yadda. It isn't related to the muskiness or heaviness because I can wear all the old heavies like Tabu, Shamilar, etc. What's going on?
Another CVS sale alert! This week for CVS cardholders, L'Oreal Age Perfect Pro Calcium tinted moisturizer at $15.99 with $15.99 in extra bucks. That's like getting it for free! I don't use this but will probably go buy it to try since I will be getting my money in bucks back anyway. A good deal.
BTW, I forgot that I also use Bobbi Brown lipstick. It doesn't make my lips feel dry like the EL.

If I get my brows tatooed will my lashless eyes look worse?
