Lots going on here over the past 20 hours. Following up.....
LuAnn, google "same day voting Ohio" and you'll find lots of articles. It's not a misstatement that's been picked up as truth. It is truth. It was however only a "5 day special". A 5 day special that ACORN took maximum advantage of.
From NPR: Quirk In Ohio Law Permits Same-Day Voting October 1, 2008 · People in Ohio this week may register to vote and cast an absentee ballot on the same day. Critics, including state Republicans, say this may open the door to voter fraud. Election officials are hoping to avoid a replay of 2004 when some people had to wait hours to vote. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=95236427
From the Washington Post: Courts Allow Same-Day Vote Window to Go Forward in OhioA weeklong window in which Ohio residents can to register to vote and cast their ballot in person on the same day can get underway Tuesday after courts today rejected challenges to the process....
...Brunner noted that in Ohio, absentee ballots must be ready for distribution 35 days before the election but the voter registration deadline is 30 days before the election. That gap creates an "overlap" period for same-day registration and absentee voting, Brunner said.
In court, Republican voters argued Brunner's interpretation was illegal and that a person must be registered for 30 days in order to receive an absentee ballot. The GOP voters also had raised a concern that allowing absentee voting before registrations were verified opened the way for fraud.
Today, courts rejected those arguments. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/29/courts_allow_same-day_vote_win.html
.
As for the "other" thread, I no longer read it but I have to admit that I'm astonished to hear that they've said that "when we asked them to document what they were attacking us about, they got "mad" and started their own thread.". Wow. Talk about creative lying. No wonder they support Obama - they are cut from the same cloth. "What we believe is the truth; the real truth be damned!"
As someone who pretty much always provides support documentation on whatever I might be saying (read any of my 3500+ posts to see this), I can most certainly tell you that when I posted there, I did provide documentation. The response was that they were not interested. They did not want to "debate" the facts; they simply wanted to discuss Obama with only other people who also support (and blindly adore) Obama - NO ONE ELSE IS WELCOME. They were quite clear about this, and anyone who was not an Obama supporter who did dare post was subjected to insults and told to leave. Regardless of how much documentation was provided to support any point, the response from those open-minded folks over there was the same - anyone who doesn't support Obama is obviously a hidden racist and is not welcome here.
Of course, not everyone posting on that thread is impolite or inconsiderate or has said terrible things. But given what's been said, I don't understand why anyone would want to associate themselves with that thread.
.
Shirley, we can agree to disagree about Bush. I really do think he had his own reasons to rush into the war with Iraq. Having said that, I do think that he had some bad information about what was going on there with Saddam, as did Clinton before him. And I would never suggest that he alone - or Republicans alone - operate to their own personal agendas. Of course Democrats do too. That's why I'm so worried about Obama. His "hidden" agenda isn't too hidden, if anyone would bother to look. And it's scary. I do agree with you that McCain and Bush are completely different and had McCain been the president over the past 8 years, the U.S., Iraq and the world would be in a very different state today.
.
Lastly, back to LuAnn. Your point "Another thing to consider is no president runs the country all by his lonesome self. They all have advisors that are paid to be knowledgeable in those areas. So if someone isn't an expert at everythihng he can have an advisor to help give him the proper information to make adequate decisions. Don't all presidents have cabinets with advisors that help them with gather evidence and information to make decisions?" is absolutely correct. But here's the problem. Have you looked at who Obama's advisors are? Have you considered who he may put into Cabinet? Read up on them. Some of his closest advisors - not the people that he's recently brought in to help win the election but those who've been with him for a while - hold really off the wall positions on things. These are the people who scare me. I won't go into details here about the backgrounds and positions of some of his closest advisors, but if you are interested, I documented a lot of it on the Obama thread a while back. And then, about Palin. Yup, she concerns me too. But she's running for VP. Obama is running for President. In most administrations, the VP role is pretty insignificant. Remember Dan Quayle? So I worry a lot more about Obama becoming president than Palin becoming VP. Sure, something could happen to McCain - there's a small chance of that and if it happens, someone unqualified will become president. On the other hand, if Obama is elected, there is a 100% chance that someone unqualified will become president. I don't bet, but looking at those odds, it doesn't seem like a tough decision.

If you believe I was rude to you, I will bow out of this thread. This site belongs to the ladies who have suffered this horrible dx. This is a place that you can talk about something other than cancer. A place to escape and not be insulted. I wish you all far better times ahead.

Can I jump in here ibcspouse? Everyone is welcome to post here.

IBC, dammit, you BETTER NOT leave this thread! We NEED your insight. You ARE a vet and served your country honorably (I think
). And another thing. I admire you for coming here among a bunch of women.
Seriously, we want you here.
I forgot to comment on your new hearing aides. My father-in-law used to say that when he'd put them on he could hear TOO well. He could hear the wind...things he had not heard in a long time. I've noticed that some people do not wear them all the time if ever. There are perks that come with not hearing well...I DIDN'T HEAR YOU. So, I can understand how you must feel about Palin's voice. One does have to get used to it.
Hang in here with us, Brother!

Please DON'T leave!! EVERYONE is welcome to post here!! I don't post here very much, but I just HATE the idea of ANYONE being thrown off ANY thread!!! Oh, and I admire you, too.
Shirley
Now I know what you've been up to recently, since I haven't heard from you or seen any posts on that bitchy thread. I also have to say you are really great, the way you find the info. to support your position. I was in favor of McCain from the start, but it's good to see the proof! Sorry my computer just went wacky and all the print is HUGE! Anyway, I am VERY WORRIED that (can I say his name?) Obama.... will become president... I think we are in BIG trouble, if he's elected.

Well ladies and gentleman (IBC you don't need to bow out, you've earned your right to participate in these boards just as everyone else) I am going to gracefully bow out of your thread. I thought we could talk but it is becoming heated and stressful. Not necessarily you all but I keep watching news channels and I get angry and people's stupidity and lack of respect for others. The video of how nasty the people were on you tube from my home town just really took me back that I came from such an evil area. No wonder I left that place in 1982 and haven't returned.
We both have our beliefs and feel strongly about them and that is what is so great about our country. We all get to have our own opinions and vote for what we believe in. I hope everyone doesn't believe everything you read in the media because we all know it is not always correct. The information may be right but the wording is swayed to make it acceptable to the point of view of the writer.
Anyway, it's been a pleasure but I am going back to putting my effort into pushing Obama and hoping he gets elected as the next president of the United States. Good Luck and will all be friends again in a few weeks.

Obama said not only did the surge work it worked "beyond our wildest dreams".
When they had the same day voting in Ohio they were busing homeless people in to vote. These people were being told who to vote for and when they showed concern about being called in for jury duty (because of registering) they were told not to worry - they were being given "temporary addresses" and no one would be able to find them.
What is really concerning to me is how the Obama campaign/left wing media (one and the same it looks like) is trying to silence any one who speaks against the "one".

Radio host scolded over Obama coverage
Network censors talk personality, offers 3-hour program slot to Dem candidatePosted: October 18, 2008

Kevin Miller (photo: KDKA 1020)A talk-radio host was reprimanded on air by his executive producer Wednesday after he received complaints about his coverage of Sen. Barack Obama.
KDKA-AM 1020 host Kevin Miller was silenced when executive producer P.J. Kumanchik read a CBS statement accusing Miller of being unfairly biased against Obama.
"We want to apologize to listeners who have found your show offensive," Kumanchik said to Miller on the air.
Kumanchik referenced phone calls and e-mails from listeners who criticized Miller for his statements about Obama. In a move considered by some to encourage "fairness," he also offered Obama a three-hour spot on the Pittsburgh, Penn., station in place of Miller's regularly scheduled noon to 3 p.m. program.
The executive producer of the CBS affiliate said Miller, a Marconi Award nominee and former Army Reserve journalist, had featured guests who were not objective when reporting information about Obama. Miller had recently conducted an Oct. 9 interview with "The Obama Nation" author and WND senior staff reporter Jerome Corsi about his investigation of Obama's connections to opposition leader Raila Odinga in Kenya. He called Corsi "a true patriot" upon his return from detention by Kenyan immigration authorities.
In an interrview with Corsi, Miller revealed his personal concerns about efforts to silence Obama critics.
"Well Dr. Corsi, what scares me is, we've seen this from the Obama campaign, that they clearly target people such as yourself, talk radio stations - whether it's WGN or others or people like myself - that speak out," he said. "And if [Obama is] elected, we're going to have a different chorus when it comes to discourse in this country."
Another one of Miller's recent shows featured John Murtagh, a man who survived Weather Underground firebomb attacks on his home, to discuss Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers.
This week, after Kumanchik finished his statements condemning Miller's coverage, people began calling to criticize the station, suggesting it was censoring the talk-radio host. Others remain confused and wonder whether the broadcast was simply a publicity stunt. Some online rumors even suggest Miller could be taken off the air.
On Thursday, Miller apologized for his comments concerning censorship of his show following airing of the CBS statement, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The station has not released a transcript of the show.
The on-air incident occurred in the wake of a campaign coverage study that revealed the "big three" networks - ABC, NBC and CBS - have routinely favored Obama in their election coverage. Findings released by the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University show 61 percent of the networks' reports aired between Aug. 23 and Sept. 30 cast the Democratic Party candidate in a favorable light - leaving Sen. John McCain with only 39 percent of positive coverage.
KDKA program director Marshall Adams declined to comment on circumstances surrounding the talk-show segment or indicate whether McCain had been offered a three-hour spot as well.
After what James T. Harris and Joe the plumber have been through - do you think anyone will speak up against Obama? At least with Pres. Bush whether you voted for him or not and whether you like him or do not agree with his policies - at least you can speak your mind without fear of reprisal.
Is Joe Biden the next Dan Quayle?:

Suz, I just read your post. I have this huge lump in my throat. Like I just want to cry. I've had it often, so nothing new. I fear that eventually these conservative radio talk show hosts will have their freedom of speech taken away because the liberal talk show folks can't keep anyone interested.
I'm sorry, LuAnn, that you think that what we read we should not believe. I will give you the same advice. However, when it comes to your son I'll have to take your word for it. I thought the Marines went in and kicked arse and the Army came in to rebuild. Oh, don't get me wrong, I know they have to fight also. But, I give you the same advice.......don't believe everything that you DON'T read because Obama has been the darling of the media a hollywood.

SUMMER, I am STUNNED to say the least. My stomach feels horrible. What the hell is going on? Did they fairly report on how Cindy does wonderful charity work? Did they say she walk the walk not just talk the talk.

Luann, don't leave. Obama is drawing some pretty massive crowds at his rallies. It is quite likely he will be the next President of the Unitied States. I am ok either way, it is the Americans that choose their President after all, and both candidates have the backing of many citizens and goverment. The whole world is watching the U.S. and waiting like a child waiting to open a gift.
Canadians find US campaign more interesting
By Christopher Mason in Ottawa
Published: October 2 2008 02:12 | Last updated: October 2 2008 02:12
Politicians are used to pleading for voters' attention. But rarely, if ever, have Canadian lawmakers struggled so mightily for their citizens' eyes and ears as during the current election campaign.
Despite an uncertain economy that has shed jobs, sent real estate prices falling and destabilised the country's GDP, many Canadians are more riveted by the drama of the US election.
On Thursday, another twist threatens to further overshadow the campaign when Canadian party leaders stage their only televised English debate on the same night US vice-presidential candidates Sarah Palin and Joe Biden square off.
With the US debate expected to draw away the attention of many Canadian viewers, politicians here are imploring voters to follow their own campaign.
"I'm hoping that people will decide to watch the Canadian debate live and check out YouTube later for whatever exciting moments there are between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin," Elizabeth May, Green Party leader, told the Canadian Press.
Ms May went on to call the Canadian campaign "simply the most important one in the history of our country".
Many would seem to disagree.
"This is one of the most boring, low-profile campaigns in memory," said Stephen Clarkson, professor of political economy at the University of Toronto. "I have been amazed by the number of days there has been absolutely no news about the election on the front page."
Robert Fulford , a Canadian newspaper columnist, called the election "among the least significant events in living memory".
"What, after all, is at stake?" Mr Fulford wrote in the National Post. "Nothing, so far as I can tell. It feels like an election to nowhere."
The economy has of late received greater attention following the Toronto Stock Exchange's largest single-day drop in points on Monday. As a result, the five party leaders will spend half of each debate (one in English, one in French) discussing the economy.
But Canadians wanting to see what politicians are proposing to avoid a financial crisis may tune in to the US debates instead, since Canada's economy often follows the rise and fall of that in the US.
That Stephen Harper, the Conservative prime minister, appears poised to win a stronger minority, or perhaps more, in the October 14 vote is thanks more to weakened opposition parties than on major issues such as the economy or Canada's role in Afghanistan.
This shortage of debate has driven even more of the Canadians' attention to the US election.
In a poll done earlier this year, 15 per cent of Canadians said that if allowed, they would give up their ballot in a Canadian election for the right to vote in this year's US election.

Well, I for one am a female vet for McCain...but I am not getting in any arguments thank you very much..
-
Oh no the page width has changed. Anyway, I had the best laugh last night.
The dems were on Tv saying McCain should have vetted Joe the plumber.
I rolled laughing. The poor guy asks one question, and look what they're
doing to him. Joe certainly didn't ask for this, a candidate comes knocking
on his front door, and bam, he needs to be vetted. Meanwhile, they never
vetted the candidate. It's hilarious.

It is well known around the world that we have great give-away programs
to other nations. Even if we don't have the money, and have to borrow
from China to do it, we give. With Dems in the drivers seat again next
year and them being notorious free spenders, sure I can see why other
countries would rather see a democrat in the Oval Office.
No, they wouldn't want to see someone sitting in the Oval office with
a veto pen in his hand, who says he'll cut the pork every where he finds it,
and veto bills loaded down with earmarks.

I was messing around last night and by chance found these videos. These are from Ayers and his wife. I can see how "someone" could have gotten "his" idea(s) from these people. They don't like capitalism..take a look. It's quite interesting. I think Ayers had much more of an impression on Obama than people want to believe.

Well, we find out that Obama was in Joe's neighborhood. Joe was throwing the football with his son. He heard people asking Obama softball questions so he wanted to throw a tough one to him. He didn't know he was being videoed or that he would be put on national TV. Now the media's been ALL over his house. He said the media was more concerned about how much he owed in taxes and whether or not he was a licensed plumber....nothing to do with the issues. This man was very well spoken...no dummy. I hope Joe gets so rich off of this! KUDOS TO JOE!

Colin Powell, the man who delivered to the United Nations the U.S. case for war against Iraq, announced Sunday that he is going to vote for Barack Obama for president.
Appearing on "FOX News Sunday," McCain responded to the news of Powell's endorsement by saying he still admires and respects his old friend.
Well, I have always admired and respected General Powell. We are longtime friends.
-
I really don't care who Europe would like in the White House. Did anyone ask us who we would like to see lead France, Germany or Britain? Didn't think so. I spent a year in Bangladesh in 1996 while Clinton was President and they did not like us then. They liked Clinton but they did not like Americans even though they would all like to come here.
I read an article yesterday about children's health care in Hawaii. It looks like they had a program for children similar to Obama's plan. They would cover all children who did not currently have coverage. I am sure I heard Obama say that if you had employee health care coverage and liked it you could keep it - but what if you don't like it - your premium and deductibles are high - sounds like you can drop it and get in on the government program. Anyhoo, in Hawaii people started dropping their children from their employer health care (I am sure premiums for single coverage are lower) and so many children ended up on the government program that they have to stop it because it has become too expensive. McCain's program preserves employee covered health care, will give you a tax credit that can be used to help pay your portion of the premiums and if you don't have employee coverage gives you money to use to help buy coverage. The media and the Obama campaign both are trying to distort McCain's plan.
I am really disappointed in Colin Powell - have lost all respect for the man. Of course his endorsement of Obama will not be called racist by the media. A white conservative who is not voting for Obama is considered racist. A black reporter here had a column today saying that if Obama did not win it would be "stomach churning".
Maybe Obama should have vetted Joe the plumber before he knocked on his door LOL!
-
I always liked and still do like Colin Powell.
Did anyone see Saturday Night Live last night. Great humor I thought.
-
Okay, I deleted the tables. The world is interested in America tho.
-
Well, Powell was all gung-ho for the Iraqi war as I recall. I watched him give his speech to the U.N., after the inspectors said there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. I just sat there and stared at my TV. Was Powell a pawn, or did he really know a grain silo was just a grain silo? I really don't care who he endorses. Now that the polls are really tightening, that's all I care about.
-
Summer - your tables were fine - I just don't think we should elect someone based on what Europeans or anyone else in the world wants - it is our country and our government. The world can be interested in America without telling us who we should vote for.
Saturday Night Live was funny last night.
