Oh. Good grief. WTF? I mean, really, I am beyond being stunned by the news. It doesn't stop me from screaming obscenities at the TV. Now the Repugnicians are saying they don't want to "discuss codifying gay rights because it is settled law" Like Roe V Wade was settled law. The only way to save America and decent conservatives is to punt Repugnicians out of office and put in a load of Democrats. The honourable Republicans can take the time to rebuild. The awful ones can go off and create a third party - The Christian Nationalist Party. Why do you have to be a two party system? Canada does okay with Liberals, Conservatives, The NDP and then a smattering of Bloc Quebecois and Greens.
Maybe - just maybe - the history of the opposition getting control at midterms won't happen.

I don't know what he said this time, but I do know when he opens his mouth a whole bunch of stupid falls out.

from the very touched not quite human, human being and in all the worst ways.
Someone needs to let him know he hasn't been president since Jan 2020, and he wasn't actually president then, because he didn't know how and still doesn't. We also didn't wish him well and hoped to heck he would do us all a favor and kick off in his covid days. Dr.'s likely described ( behind his back of course ) his fight against covid as stupid and dangerous since he left hospital early. Afraid Pence or someome might 'take' over and make some reasonable and half sane decisions. But continue on in your legacy of worst person ever on the face of the earth and doubly worse president. I chose when I type the word next to your name and I never capitalize that word in regard to you.

I hope you are right Rob Reiner.

Leaving this here and just as a reminder -- we are turning on ALL three of our t.v.'s to watch 1'6 and hope to drive Fox News up the wall and back.

After watching the hearings tonight I can't help but wonder how ANYONE can still support Trump (even though I doubt that many Magats have changed their minds). Trump must be apoplectic!
There were certainly some entertaining moments. My favorite? The way the committee made Josh Hawley look like the weak little poseur he is.
-
It was riveting. I don't understand the endgame of Trump supporters, especially those who are politicians. Do they really want to live in a country where it's okay for the losers to hang the vice president and leaders of the opposing party? If so, it might be them at the end of a noose someday.

The source of love is deep in us, and we can help others realize a lot of happiness. One word, one action, or one thought can reduce another person's suffering and bring him or her joy. One word can give comfort and confidence, destroy doubt, help someone avoid a mistake, reconcile a conflict, or open the door to liberation. One action can save a person's life or help them take advantage of a rare opportunity. One thought can do the same, because thoughts always lead to words and actions. If love is in our heart, every thought, word, and deed can bring about a miracle. Because understanding is the very foundation of love, words and actions that emerge from our love are always helpful. -Thich Nhat Hanh

I too wonder where this is suppose to end for the Reps Ruth. If all of what has happened can't convince you that power ( while giving you what you want ) can also remove your security, peace and even YOUR life, then why would you want to continue down this path. It is confusing. Last night was rivetting to say the least. Can there be any doubt. The Loon is over neck deep in the whole thing. He has, as mentioned, got to be climbing the walls now. Also Garland put out a brief that he would follow the law no matter what, no matter who. So any hope that prosecutions could stop if there is a declaration to run for '24 has been dashed.
Up the creek w/o a paddle. Also I'm sure for ALL involved it has not made anyone happy that there will be more of last night in September after a lot more information is collated. I do hope in the end this makes total mincement of what is left of the hangars on and enablers of the Reps. party so Cheney and others can hopefully pull something decent from the ashes and begin anew.
Last night is going to make for a long week-end of narratives that has already begun. Probably going to steal all the thunder from Pres. Biden's case of covid. Then again the horror of the Loon watching the aftermath of the Ellipse speech and doing nothing -- I can't believe anything much could erase or take the place of that. If that can't make a believer in the Loon's evilness, nothing can and you are a lost soul too.

Ruth, I can't imagine why any politicians embrace Trump except for the power that they gain through his voters. They are obviously short-term thinkers and probably believe they will be able to use and control those voters (guess they missed the lesson of January 6th). If the Republican Party ever regains its soul, I hope all of those MAGA Republicans disappear in a puff of sulfurous smoke.
But I may have a little insight into the rank and file Trump faithful. I just spent a week with two Trump Uber-supporters (my DD's Texas in-laws). They sincerely believe the craziest stuff (for example, that HRC and her friends routinely drink the blood of children) and refuse to even consider anything that challenges their beliefs. They are extremely proud to be part of what they consider to be a patriotic group of “real Americans". They are (or at least were) decent, law-abiding citizens who were never particularly successful or affluent. I think that being part of the Trump cult gives them an identity, an importance, and a sense of belonging that they've never had before. God only knows how this country will be able to break the spell that Trump has cast over them and their fellow cult members.

"Nero fiddled while Rome burned" perfectly describes the Loon's behavior on 1/6/21.

As I was listening last night, I wondered if trump was sitting in the dinning room, watching Faux News sipping a coke and eating popcorn while getting excited by the cite of rioters storming the capital in search or Mike Pence and others to kill. The image of Josh Hawley running has been put to music, Chariots of Fire, Born to Run, etc. There was laughing heard from the audience as they played the clip of Hawley running. Also compelling was Pat Cipollone reason for not resigning. I surmised he though trump would appoint Rudy or Sindy Powell as White House Council. Or as Kitzinger referred to them as the clown car.

Pupmom, so very true. We all know the Loon to be as is said 'dumber than a box of rocks', but with a little push from people who didn't care how it was done, he willingly knew and planned to break the law in no un-certain terms ( whatever it took ) and then took great relish in watching it un-fold and holding off as long as he could to give the signal to stop it. The only reason he did stop was he was hearing too many say it was time to break open the 25th. Amendment ( on him ) in relation to Trump. Who knows how much longer he would have wallowed like a pig in the gore of the Capitol riot.

Find a redeeming quality in this guy. I'll wait.

I like how they kept repeating that Ivana had escaped from a Communist country (and its horrors) and yet he tried to make our democracy what she seemingly escaped. Both she and the current grifter soon learned the value of capitalism and how to use it to their advantage. I still am trying to decide how a thrice or was it 4 time divorced woman (she was married before trump) and then could be buried from the Catholic church with a full mass. Talk about hypocrisy. Unless all those former marriages were annulled, she should not have been entitled to receive the sacraments. However, throw money at the church and the rules bend but only if you have money and connections.

A little dated now that we know what trump really was up to during the riot

Love the two memes.
Dropping something in here. I know there are those here who don't care for the Palmer Report, but I found this piece amuzing and thought I'd share in case anyone else wanted a bit of a chuckle.
This is just getting ugly for Donald Trump and Mike Pence
