Smaarty, That hassock looks like SO MUCH work to make. I'm not sure I'd let my cat sit on it. Actually, I would, of course. My cat has been picking very strange places to sleep. Last night he was disturbed by the fireworks and started out sleeping on my nightstand before moving to the bed. During the day he sleeps on the floor of the closet in DH's study.

Beautiful pouffe - that's what they were called here when I was a child (pronounce poof-ay) . Not surprised that Parker has appropriated it! Cats have a knack for finding the best seat.

Smaarty My third cat is a tuxedo - Emma. My first two cats back into cat ownership were both tuxedos - Emma and Ms Boo. Wonderful cats. I lost one to FIP in 2013 at age 7. Broke my heart, my Ms Boo. I swear she knew I had BC before I did, just by things that happened. A year after chemo was done she got ill. Rarely a cat gets FIP at her age, but so many little things were happening to her just before I was dx'd. I sometimes resist thinking an animal actually knows when their owner is sick, but I started putting little pieces together of her change in behavior in 2011. She always was my Empath cat.

Feline ~ "pouffe", what a fun word! Parker doesn't rhyme with tuffet. Parker Poof-ay flows nicely though. Now Smaarty doesn't have to change his first name!

Wren ~ you are a more lenient cat mommy than I - my cat would NEVER sleep on my nightstand. Oh heck, the truth is my cat could NEVER fit on my nightstand 'cuz of all the clutter

Quinn ~ So sad about your dear Ms Boo My Ragdoll kitty was never a cuddler . The only times he ever slept with me were when I was horribly ill from treatments. It was so atypical of him; The first few times I was afraid I was dying!

Our new cat, Tubby! We lost our old Persian (Jena) in January and I wanted to get a Siamese kitten, but my husband said "No more pets. We might die before they do." I was not happy with Mr. Negativity (but to be fair he'd just been diagnosed with RA). Anyway, we are in our 50s, not our 90s. So compromise-no kitten, a nice grown cat instead. Tubby came to us from the local shelter. They said she's about 6 years old. Has lovely blue eyes. We were told her previous owners surrendered her because they couldn't afford to feed her. She does eat a lot, LOL!

Labelle - I totally get your husband's concerns of outliving a new kitty, but in your 50's?? I knew I was taking a risk getting my 2 kittens at 60, especially being single and after BC, no family that I could leave them to, and thinking no one could ever provide a home that would meet my standards! The positive side of getting a purebred, the breeder will take them back and find a good home for them. Also, each breed has very active rescue groups. If a Devon Rex pops up on Petfinder, they will rescue. At that point, they will totally screen a new owner. If there is a bonded pair, like mine, they will only be placed together. I worry about my rescue, but she is 9 and I hope I will outlive her! And many Devon owners are very networked via FB and I already know of several homes where they would be welcomed. One woman recently flew from WA to WY, rented a car to get to some obscure shelter to save a 13 year old Devon. There were many applicants for this cat! But I like your idea of getting a middle aged cat and when I lose my older girl, I want to investigate adopting a senior. I'll never forget 3 senior cats in a cage at our local shelter after their elderly owner died. They were so fearful, but took comfort in each other. Broke my heart. Tubby is beautiful and I'm glad you convinced your husband .

Ruthbru - what beautiful kitties. I am so partial to Tuxedos and yours is gorgeous! He or a she? One of the breeders in my FB network had a Tuxedo Devon that was just spectacular. I cannot get a 4th cat, but thinking about that kitty was the closest I got. I have not posted a pic of my Tuxedo Emma. I need to find a good picture.

panthrah - I can only say fantastic things about this breed. When you are ready, let me know, as I feel like I know of all of the good breeders in the US and Canada, and maybe Europe! That might be an exaggeration, but it is a very small world and my blue Devon's breeder and I are very good friends. She is what they consider an "elite breeder."

feelingfeline - what do you call rescues in the UK? Moogie, mowgliis? LOL..my bad memory. Yours looks like an absolute sweetheart. If yours likes balls, and if they have Jackson Galaxy toys there, the dice balls are a real hit in my house!

Oreo is a 'he' from the Humane Society. He was about 6 months old when he adopted us & I don't know anything about his background. He must have been going into puberty before he was spayed because he has a vey naughty history of marking furniture when he isn't happy. I will put in an advertisement for Feliway, which is a plug-in that gives off calming scents for cats. It has really worked for him & I know when it needs to be changed because Oreo pees on something to alert me .

I haven't had a kitten since my very first cat. My heart kitty was 10 when I adopted her. We think our current cat, Squeakers, is about 9yo. He has FIV, so we thought we could outlive him. After that it will be fosters only. I'm being a little optimistic there because heart kitty and Squeakers were both fosters to begin with. We're 75 and 76, so really too old for a kitten.
